• Rachel (2/5): A very sad and disappointing experience. - We liked that the bed was comfortable and the cottage is in a rural location. The native Australian floral arrangements were nice too. High contact areas were clean i.e. Shower, toilet, sheets (although stained), kitchen (although previous guest's rubbish was left behind for us and there was flour on one of the wooden chopping boards suggesting they had not been cleaned). We were also grateful to receive a full refund for the the whole awful experience, but not before Bec attempted to walk back our original verbal agreement by later telling Bookings.com she would only refund one night, instead of the two to which she had agreed. Our experience is best summed up by two sayings: All that glitters aint gold and don't rest on your laurels. The cottage is set for instagram and not real people- all the pretty photos do not accurately reflect the actual experience. This property and hosts may once have warranted all the nice reviews we read prior to booking our stay, but our experience was definitely not 'luxury', nor worth the $475 per night. We only met Angus, who seemed like a decent guy, and he had the fire to the outdoor tub going upon our arrival. Unfortunately in the 45 mins we chatted with him, unpacked the car and our belongings, the water became quite cool and made for an unpleasant dip. For this nightly rate and having read other reviews about the host's generosity, our expectations were definitely not met; bottle of A2 milk, a couple of biscuits, some eggs and a basket of citrus (that smelled of rotten fruit) and only one bathrobe, for two people. No candles for a soak in the clawfoot bath, despite empty candle holders in the cottage and for sale on the cottage's website - only table-top stick candles I was told were for 'styling purposes only'. Angus brought over two 'usable' ones from their home, 100ms away. The cottage is in dire need of a good Spring Clean and not just 'country dirt' that we have lived with- skirting boards, bedhead, couch and cushion covers - all were extremely dusty. So bad we did not want to even sit on the couch and our first night of two was extremely uncomfortable trying to sleep while dealing with all the dust and mites in the bedroom. Sadly, when I messaged Bec the following morning about this, as my husband was cleaning the couch for us to be able to sit on it comfortably, her response to my feedback was to ask us to leave. We had been willing to make a go of it and salvage our weekend - where were we to go on Saturday lunchtime? And all we had done was unpack, clean and have a sleepless night.
