Guest Reviews
- Clodagh (10/5): - We loved our 3 night stay here on the peaceful island of Nanuya. Highlight’s included the host’s cooking, learning about his family history on the island and homemade ice creams! The island itself is also beautiful but small and there are two trails to the other side (one to another beautiful beach, one to Nanuya island resort) with great viewpoints along the way. We thoroughly recommend this homestay
- Jiří (10/5): Fantastické Fidži - Fantazie. Chceš zažít pravé Fidži? Tak to jsi tady správně. Půvabný dřevěný domek pro hosty a společné socialní zařízení s Vilisem. Všude absolutně čisto, květiny a voňavé. Vilis je fantastický kuchař! Snídaně a večeře připraví s láskou a velmi chutné. Autentické Fidži u Vilise a nemohu zaponout i fantastické korály plné ryb. Díky Vilisi! Jiri a Leona
- - sehr leckeres und reichhaltiges Essen, jeden Tag frisch zubereitet
- sehr freundliches und zuvorkommendes Personal
- ruhige Lage direkt am Strand
- Ilias (10/5): - Keep going, you just make people happy!
This homestay is amazing, I have travelled a lot and this was by far the best stay for me, it feels like a cozy tropical home! The host is just a great person and a great chef! Everything he made, chicken soup, cheddar chicken, grilled fish, coconut muffin, pancakes etc. was absolutely superb! Also the ice cream was great, coconut, banana and pineapple sooo good!
The room was clean and the bathroom was always clean! Will definitely go back and definitely recommend it for an original experience in Nanuya!
- Xana (10/5): Remote paradise with a local - It was an absolutely wonderful stay with Vilise. He’s a very warm, welcoming, and funny person to spend time with. Every day he puts a lot of work into the property keeping it clean and well kept. The bure is huge with very comfortable mattresses and screens on the windows to keep the bugs out. In the future, they will expand to have more bures, but for now the treat of being the only guest is a treasure. He’s happy to show you around the island or beyond. I highly recommend visiting the sea caves to the north. I’ve stayed at a different homestay on Nanuya in the past, but what made me choose Voyager was all the reviews about Vilise’s cooking. It is indeed amazing and you will not go hungry. I also loved all the pups, especially my buddy Rex who was my guard dog and companion for the trip. I can’t wait to go back.
Nächstes Mal komm ich wieder hier her.
Nichts.
- Carter (10/5): Stay here!!! - I can’t recommend Voyager Homestay enough. As far as hosts go, they don’t get better than Vilise. He was incredibly attentive during my 5 night stay and went above and beyond to make me feel welcome and comfortable. This stay was a highlight in my months of traveling.
His cooking deserves special attention—everything he made was excellent. Local fruits, fresh fish, coconut cream pancakes, chicken curry, etc. His organic pineapple ice cream is delightful. You will not be hungry, as the portions are hearty. I’ll only add that he could absolutely be charging more than he does!
As for the island, there are many great activities to choose from. The house reef has beautiful coral and fish, and the blue lagoon on the other side of the island is gorgeous (as is the 25 minute walk!). Be sure to make it to the caves, and I highly recommend snorkeling or fishing with Vilise.
The facilities are lovely. Super clean bathroom area, great shower pressure (though remember to conserve!!!), and the room is huge and has everything you’ll need. The wifi is also incredibly fast (fast enough that a couple from a neighboring homestay was able to livestream a World Cup qualifying match with no issue). Also, previous reviews note there is no lock on the door, but he has since added one and it works great. Not that you need it, as the little village is very safe.
All in all, don’t hesitate to book. I can’t wait to come back!
- LU (10/5): Such a surprisingly wonderful and heartwarming stay - This was hands down the best place we stayed during our trip to Fiji.
The room was clean and spacious, and just a short 20-meter walk to the beach. The beach was absolutely beautiful — clear blue water, soft sand, and such a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere.
Vilise and Fina have a great eye for detail and are amazing cooks. Every morning, they would decorate the table with fresh flowers and prepare delicious local Fijian meals for us — breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Being able to enjoy every meal with an ocean view was something really special. And don’t miss their homemade organic ice cream — it’s so good!
They also offer a variety of fun ocean activities. The hosts are incredibly warm and thoughtful, always making sure you’re comfortable and happy.
The sunrise right in front of the homestay was absolutely breathtaking. Even after staying for four nights, we still didn’t want to leave. I’d definitely come back to this little hidden paradise again. Nothing
- Alison (10/5): Lovely and authentic family experience in Fiji with delicious meals and community vibes. - Vilise provided an excellent stay for our time on the island (4 nights), despite troubling weather which no one could have predicted. He was so gracious and generous, even as we had to leave a day early to ensure we made our outbound flight. The burre was minimal, but everything provided (bedding, mosquito nets etc) was clean and comfortable.
What truly made the trip was his amazing cooking (should be charging double like the nearby resort for that quality!) which accommodated my vegetarian diet and getting to know and visit with his family. Dan his dad was super knowledgeable about the history of the islands, current political issues in Fiji, and provided great banter during the meals he shared with us. As we visited over Lent, and a number of youth in the community were finishing their cataclysm, the area was lively despite being in the midst of a tropical storm. If you love chill dogs and free roaming chickens (and some bold land crabs!), this is a great place to get some interaction with animals too!
While we didn't get to see it in its full glory because of the weather, Vilise's hospitality made up for it 10-fold and we highly recommend choosing this homestay if you want a true family-style experience in Fiji. Everything was great, all previous issues mentioned in earlier reviews (no fan or lock on door) have been addressed. I would check the weather forecast before departure and make sure to book a transfer directly with Vilise as it is NOT walkable from NIR (and you need a tender boat to transfer from the ferry anyway)
- Endris (8/5): Great way to experience authentic Fijian culture and living. - The food was great and plentiful. The family running it was very kind and accommodating. Very great ice cream, would recommend. Only hand-line fishing was available which was great, but they advertised spear fishing, so check first. Originally I asked if they could take me to church and they did not hesitate to say yes, but I don’t think they really knew and I did not end up getting to a mass on Sunday. It was non intentional but did not seem to be a priority for them. Drinking water is rain water, so bring a filter if your concerned or buy there bottled water. There are roosters around and they start making noise from 3am-7am.
- Loredana (9/5): - Very spacious and clean room with a private entrance, just steps from the sea, where you can watch the sunrise. The owner is very kind and welcoming, eager to make your stay as pleasant as possible. Breakfasts and dinners are varied, carefully prepared and plentiful. Highly recommended.
- Emma (10/5): -
- Federica (9/5): - An immersive experience in the authentic Fiji mood! The staff was truly very helpful and kind with us. They showed great openness and friendliness in fully meeting all the needs and requests we had. The place is fantastic, and I recommend trying the delicious organic ice cream! Highly recommended! It might be a good idea to have a key/lock for the room to ensure a bit more privacy and to avoid it being accessible to others in the village. Apart from that, everything was absolutely perfect!
- Russell (10/5): - A very warm welcome with fresh coconut drink.
Loved the location with beach views and walk along beach.
Food was amazing, tasty and plentiful, very friendly host, checked to make sure we were okay.
Make sure you try the organic ice creams, delicious.
Walked everyday to blue lagoon easy track took 30 mins, lovely beach and snorkeling with tropical fish.
Would stay again Nothing
- Richard (10/5): Great host, excellent food, nice tidy settlement with friendly people and well cared for dogs! -
- Nikita (10/5): Exceptional - Stunning location. Very friendly and accommodating, helped taking me to the caves even as a solo traveller which had proved difficult at other places. Stunning ice creams too. Chill doggos to hang out with Not much, does what it says on the tin. I didn't like that I didn't stay longer
- Laura (10/5): Amazing stay - We had the best stay with Vilise , he was by himself to take care of us . He spent all his time to cook for us , and the food was just sooo good , best chef :)
Don't hesitate to book , and take the meal plan !! It's totally worth it !
It's only one room , so you'll be VIP Guests :)
We had good chats and laughs with him
Don't forget to try the ice cream + go to the tea house for best donuts !
The place is simple but comfy
+Cute dogs
If you feel like walking you can do the walk to the other side of the island , everyone around is so nice.
Thanks Vilise ! Nothing!!
- Howells (10/5): A piece of paradise! - 10/10 recommend, it is such a beautiful piece of the world and we are so grateful to have been able to share it with Vilise and his family. Super clean, incredible food and good vibes! You won't regret coming here ❤️
- Imane (9/5): Superb - Vellise and his family are such nice and friendly people. The homestay is comfortable and the food is very homey and conforting. The beachfront is amazing, and the sunrise can be seen from there as well. Nothing, everything was great
- Kristy (7/5): Just don’t expect everything is free :D - Small and lovely island just enough for a night stay :D Vilise is friendly and he cooked coconut fish for me before I left. Boat transfer from the flyer need to pay 10$; WiFi need to pay 5$ but can’t connect from the room, meal plan is not mandatory but 55$,
- Luise (10/5): Exceptional - It was a really nice stay. The accommodation is very clean and I felt very comfortable there, Vilise is really a very good host. The food was excellent, they really tried to offer me great vegetarian dishes. The island is beautiful. You can walk around the island and see the Blue Lagoon. Otherwise, I was also snorkelling and borrowed a canoe from a neighbor's homestay. Unfortunately, when we did the snorkelling with sharks activity, there where no sharks. But we still saw a nice coral reef, which was worth the trip. It wasn't very expensive either, compared to the prices for activities in other accommodations.
- Tristan (10/5): Amazing Fijian experience! - Book it!!
We cannot recommend Voyager Homestay enough! We had the absolute best time staying with Vilise. We stayed for seven nights, not having the budget to island hop but wanting to experience Fiji - we hit the jackpot! The homestay is only one room and Vilise was the perfect host - attentive but not overbearing! As his only guests he goes above and beyond to make sure you enjoy your stay!
It’s by far the most sustainable place we’ve ever stayed with rainwater showers, solar electricity and locally sourced food. We have left feeling like we’ve got the true Fijian experience, having breakfast with Vilise and listening to his tales of the island.
My girlfriend is vegetarian and gluten free and it was not an issue. Vilise cooked us separate meals each night so she could have delicious, coeliac safe food and I could still enjoy his freshly caught fish and delicious chicken dishes. We even got a mix of gluten free goodies for breakfast including pancakes and Fijian doughnuts! (Made with gf flour we had bought to the island, bought at the supermarket in Nadi).
The beaches near the homestay are exceptionally beautiful, one of which you can see from your room. Accommodation is basic but amazing for the price, comfortable and spacious, and the bathroom was always meticulously clean.
Make sure you pack bug spray so you can enjoy stargazing in peace!
Don’t miss trying Vilise’s homemade ice creams either! Nothing it was perfect
- Kayla (10/5): Paradise - Great host who made us the most amazing food. He took great care of us and the place was just absolutely beautiful. No complaints.
- Kerem (10/5): Truly unforgettable – a real Fiji highlight! - Our stay here was absolutely amazing. The host was by far the best part – incredibly kind, welcoming, and helpful. From the very first moment, we felt right at home.
The location is stunning – peaceful, surrounded by nature, and just a short, beautiful walk from the famous Blue Lagoon, which is perfect for snorkeling. Even right in front of the accommodation there’s a gorgeous coral reef full of colorful marine life – ideal for a quick dip straight from the beach.
The place itself was spotless, very well maintained, and had everything we needed.
And the food? Honestly, the best we had anywhere in Fiji – fresh, full of flavor, and clearly made with love.
If we ever come back – and we really hope we do – we would choose this place again over any resort or hotel, no question.
Vinaka vaka levu for everything! 🌺
- Isabela (9/5): A wonderful, romantic and beautiful homestay 💕 - We experienced a pleasant stay with delicious daily meals and consistently clean rooms. We felt comfortable and could truly relax. The beach, located directly on the shoreline, was simply legendary. We were regularly asked if we were comfortable and if we needed anything! We felt like family ☺️ We experienced only one moment of uncertainty during our stay. It occurred after the owner offered to take us by boat to a restaurant farther away. While we were dining, he stayed with some friends near the beach. When we wanted to leave, he appeared quite intoxicated. The return trip was rather bumpy and unsettling.
- Michael (9/5): Superb - Voyager Retreat is a REAL Homestay. Vilise, Fina and Dan did everything possible to make us feel part of the family from the moment they fetched us from the ferry. Accommodation is rustic but spotless. Having meals with the family at the dining table with the sand between your toes is a special memory. We can't wait to go back and take Dan for a hike around Nanuya Lailai to show him the view from the hill.
- Steff (10/5): A hidden gem on Nanuya Lailai - A really outstanding experience. Bill was so helpful with everything. He cooked so tasty meals and the organic ice-cream (self-made) is a dream. The view from the bungalow is amazing. A 100% recommendation 👍. I had to leave after 3 nights. Wish I could stay longer.
- Omar2995 (10/5): Exceptional -
- Angie (9/5): Amazing place to stay and relax - Everything, it was a beautiful place and V was great. I would have loved to stay longer.
- Max (10/5): Exceptional -
- Grainne (10/5): Could not recommend this Homestay more! Amazing!! - Dan and Vilise made us feel so welcome. The food was delicious and their company was amazing! We had a great time snorkelling in the crystal clear water and saw lots of fish. Delicious homemade ice cream also! Our favourite place we stayed in Fiji! ❤️
- Janis (9/5): Superb - The place and location is absolutely amazing, directly at the beach with hammocks to hang out.
Vilise and his wife are cooking great and are super hosts, friendly and helpful.
Everything is basic, but super clean. We enjoyed every minute of our stay.
Perfect value for money! A little furniture in the rooms to place our stuff would be helpful.
- Jill (9/5): Great place to relax with great local food - Great location, had the room all to myself and my own hammock. Great food and big portions. Bill took me on some trips which was amazing It can get very hot in the room especially when there is no wind.
There are dogs running around on the property and the rest of the island, they are quite calm but if you’re afraid of dogs then this is not the best place to be
- Juditha (10/5): I feel like a Princess in Paradise!🍀😌 - Everything was lovely! Would immediately Go back! The owner Vilise takes care for his customers in a very nice way. Missed a mirrow, but fortunately had a Little handpocketmirrow😉.
- Hannah (10/5): The perfect place to relax and unwind by the beach - We had a lovely stay at the Voyager Retreat. The hosts were really lovely and welcoming, the facilities were clean and beautifully presented, the food was delicious and generous portions!
- Niccolò (10/5): Exceptional - It was a truly Fijian Experience!!
Dan and his son are amazing hosts. From when you step on the island, they make you feel at home. The food is amazing, they offer some activities such as the cave tour which was great! The place is very nice, of course simple (as it's a home stay), but very very clean and well curated, both room, toilet, dining area and all the outside parts, which Dan and his son keep clean and spot on every day!
I had such a great time and experience, cannot recommend enough for the experience, will definitely go back!
- Deborah (10/5): Wish had spent more time here. Stunning location. - As advertised, clean , simple and clearly well maintained. Delicious and lots of food. Authentic , local experience. Excellent beach and snorkelling. Charming and engaging host who made the stay memorable.
24/7 electricity. No fan in room, very hot if there is no wind.
- Beatrix (9/5): Superb - A lovely, authentic place on the east coast of Nunaya Lailai. Food was plenty and delicious 😅
- Pattamon (9/5): Wonderful new place, wish I could stay longer! - This new place currently has one room only, so too bad I could only stay one night as it was so booked up. But that was also the plus side, very peaceful. The beach is very very beautiful and this place has plenty of shade allowing you to hangout and enjoy the beauty without suffering in the sun. The room and shared bathroom is very nice and clean. A big plus is the 24/7 electricity that other homestays don’t yet have. The host is a great cook, also making organic fruits ice cream that I had to go back everyday even when I stayed another place :) Thank you Already suggested to them to take advantage of 24/7 electricity and add a fan. It could be very hot when there was no breeze.
- Arianna (9/5): Peaceful and lively homestay - the space was clean and tidy, including the shared bathroom. The location is amazingly beautiful and the village that surrounds it is very nice and the people are firendly. The water is crystal clear and the atmosphere is so peaceful.
The host has been amazing at accomodating all of our needs and catching fish for the meals. He is an amazing cook and will make your stay memorable! The only thing missing is a fan for the room when it gets hot at night
- Victor (10/5): Best experience in Fiji ! - This is one of the most authentic and beautiful places in all the Yasawa Islands. Vilise and his father took care of us as if we were family. Vilise is a good cook, my girlfriend is celiac and he really took care that everything was perfect for her. They also make delicious ice creams with local fruit from the island. It is a very un-touristy area and they are very nice people. We spent three days there of disconnection and absolute relaxation, without a doubt the most authentic experience with local people you can have in Fiji. We hope to be back soon! Todo fue perfecto
- Ingrid (7/5): Get close to how Fiji islanders live. Kind welcoming people. Without luxuries. . - This is an authentic Fiji experience. A beach area owned by an extended family group. Simple dwellings, lots of simple food. Friendly people. Made you feel at home.
30 min walk through fields of Kasava, mango trees, and coconut forest to access to Blue lagoon cruises beach area (if no ship in the bay) exquisite!
Indeed excellent, in season fruit ice creams! Worth going just for those! Simple things like towel rails, hooks, bedside tables, a fan, lighting, mirror could be provided and we believe they are adding things like that so will improve.
This is not for people who want luxury or creature comforts
- Robert (10/5): Paradise location, wonderful hosts, a Yasawa must. - Truly a slice of paradise run by some of the most welcoming, friendly and kind people. Cannot recommend this homestay enough. We stayed 2 nights as we were travelling through the Yasawa Islands, but wish we could have stayed longer. Facilities were basic (cold showers, no air con- all expected for a homestay), but the hosts went out of their way to ensure we had a brilliant time. Food was best we had in the Yasawas and we were able to very easily organise a private trip to the Caves at competitive pricing.
If you are planning a trip to the Yasawas, this place is a must stay if available - the reviews don’t lie! Nothing - it was truly excellent and deserving of a 10/10.
- Werner (10/5): Exceptional - Best cook ever in fiji
- Tolstoy (10/5): Absolutely sensational!!! - The water and beach were beautiful, we basically had the whole beach to ourselves. The host was helpful, kind, and gave us massive generous portions for our meals! Would recommend. Nothing, it was amazing! The mattress was a bit thin, but we just grabbed the mattresses from the single beds and put them underneath the double bed. Cold water showers only, but my partner and I expected that so we didn’t mind.
- Viivi (10/5): Wonderful family homestay on a stunning beach - Beautiful beach, great homecooked meals, comfortable hammock to lie in, scenic hikes and pretty snorkeling on the island. Plenty to do and trips/activities available to keep you busy if you want to see surrounding islands - a wonderful place to spend some time relaxing and get away from the mainland. Everyone was so welcoming as all the homestays on the island are run by one big family, there was also a nearby teahouse and homemade ice-cream available to buy. This is the newest of all the homestays there and has lights in the room/bathrooms thanks to solar panels, which was super useful at night time! Nothing, just make sure you bring insect repellent for the mosquitoes (which you'll find on all the islands)!
- Lena (10/5): Exceptional - Vilise is an exceptional host. He made us feel right at home and went above and beyond to ensure our stay was comfortable. The homemade meals were a highlight of our trip—fresh, delicious, and made with local ingredients.
Overall, Vilise’s Homestay is a hidden gem. It’s perfect for anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle and enjoy a peaceful retreat. We highly recommend it.
- Sheryl (10/5): Exceptional - Vilise was an amazing, attentive host and an incredible chef! The food was absolutely divine and he made sure we had plenty of it. The property is right on a beautiful beach. Just sad we couldn't stay longer.
- Cheveyo (10/5): Absolutely Incredible. - Nothing but positive things to say about Voyager Retreat. The host is a master of hospitality, and a really interesting, intelligent guy.
Best food we had the entire time we were in Fiji, and extremely generous portions! It also happened to be the most affordable meal plan offered at any of the home stays we visited.
The property itself is situated on a very nice white sand beach that is just that - sand. Not a lot in the way of coral, but we liked that very much as it was nicer to swim in.
Honestly I think this place deserves a lot more guests. We were shocked at the high level of value for the price. It’s certainly going to be a place we revisit many times over the coming years
- Zoran (10/5): The great local experience, Vinaka. - Home made food of exceptional quality, taste presentation .. like five star hotel. Ice cream freshly made on premises using local fruit in season (papaya, banana, pineapple, mango) and home made all natural ingredients is supper tasty.
The accommodation is extremely specious overlooking beautiful sandy beach with amazing water colour variations.
The sunrise is astonishing, orange glow half hour before sunrise followed with spectacular sunrise.
The host is very friendly, attentive, worked in high end resort and it shows in food quality, presentation and in general how he treats his guest. The people in village are also very friendly.
The host provided us with well priced boat transfer to the nearby Nacula Island.
He arranged kayak rental, provided detailed instruction for hike to the Blue Lagoon. That easy hike is featured by fascinating views of green island mixed with palette of blue and turquoise ocean water colour. NA
- Eva (10/5): Absolutely amazing! - We had an amazing stay at Vilise's homestay on the island. Vilise is a wonderful host—super nice, chill, and an incredible cook. The homemade, fresh meals were the best we’ve ever had. The homestay is beautiful, right on the beach in a quiet village, and Vilise keeps everything spotless. He can also organize great activities like boat trips to the cave, snorkeling, fishing.. We truly felt at home during our stay, highly recommended!
- Karina (10/5): Super! - The host Vilise was making you feel at home. He makes the best icecream from fresh fruit! Delicious 100%. He is also an excellent cook. Walking to the other side of the island over different paths, gave an exploring feel! I’m delightful I have experienced his place. Nothing really. I had the room (4 beds) for my own.
- Mike (10/5): A real Fiji experience and a great host. - This homestay afforded me with a real Fijian homestay experience and island experience. This is not a luxurious resort but real Fiji. The host was incredibly friendly and helpful and did his best to ensure I had a pleasant and delightful stay. Their cooking is authentically local Fijian. I had dinner with the host family and it offered a real cultural exchange experience. The island, Nanuya Lailai, is small and easy to walk around. The other side of the island has a beautiful and picturesque beach, perfect for a morning or sunset swim in calm waters. I really enjoyed that. All in all a real Fijian experience and the highlight of my holiday in Fiji. In hindsight, I would have preferred to spend more time here and visit fewer other islands. The cabin is very basic. I did not dislike anything that you would not expect on a remote island.
- Georgiana (10/5): Beautiful homestay with a great host - We could not be happier with our time at Voyager Retreat Homestay and Vilise our host. The food that he and his family cooked was the best that we had over our whole trip in Fiji. The location was beautiful and very isolated and the island was easy to explore. Our evenings spent with Vilise left us with a greater understanding of Fijian culture. Do not be discouraged by how new this homestay is, it is an absolute gem of a spot and we can’t wait to come back. Nothing we did not like
- Olivia (9/5): Superb - The bedroom/beds are comfortable, cool and clean, and there is a nice shower, sink and toilet right outside your door. Also outside there are hammocks to chill out in and a deck. The hosts are kind, helpful people, as are the whole family and island residents, who never make you feel like a burden and made sure I had a nice stay. Food plan was lovely, healthy and filling. If you do want a snack or drink there’s a tea shop just a short walk away, and a path that leads to the blue lagoon and shop. Activities such as snorkelling or fishing are available for a small fee. I fully recommend Voyager Retreat 😊
- Shayer (10/5): Immersive luxury for cheap. - Fantastic homestay, lovely hosts who cook amazing food so you'll never go hungry. They are in the midst of upgrading so can only get better. It's a newer homestay, so not many people know about it, making this a massive hidden gem. Highly underrated and absolutely should be a place to go if you're coming to this island. Maybe the water pressure in the shower is a little low, but that's to be expected for an island with scarce water resources. If anything, I'm more than impressed with how luxurious they make the place feel with such little resources available. Of course, given its price point, you can only expect so much and not resort amenities.
- Charlotte (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dovile (10/5): Exceptional - The host was so welcoming, and the beach and atmosphere were very relaxing. You had everything that you needed. One of the best places we stayed in Yasawa islands! 🙏
