• David (10/5): Excellent - Séjour exceptionnel, adresse à recommander sans hésitation. L’accueil a été irréprochable, avec une communication fluide et efficace aussi bien via Booking que via WeChat. Tout a été simple : accès facile, stationnement sans difficulté, et même une arrivée anticipée acceptée sans aucun problème. J’ai été reçu avec beaucoup d’attention (thé et petits gâteaux), ce qui donne immédiatement le ton. L’hôtel est situé dans un petit hameau très calme, au cœur des champs. Ce n’est pas isolé, mais parfaitement paisible. Le vieux centre de Shaxi est à seulement 2 km : une agréable marche d’environ 20 minutes permet d’en profiter pleinement, tout en retrouvant le calme absolu le soir. C’est clairement le meilleur compromis entre immersion et tranquillité. La chambre est d’un niveau remarquable, largement comparable à un très bon 4 étoiles. Literie confortable, équipements modernes et soignés : bouilloire Xiaomi avec réglage précis de température, chauffe-serviettes, poubelles automatiques, toilettes japonaises… tout est pensé dans le détail. Mention spéciale également pour les produits respectueux de l’environnement. Le petit déjeuner est un vrai point fort : café artisanal local, fruits frais, pain perdu, omelette, produits de qualité… le tout dans une salle chaleureuse avec cheminée. L’ensemble est à la fois généreux et raffiné. Le cadre est superbe, avec un très beau jardin, une atmosphère paisible et un vrai sens de l’accueil. On sent un établissement tenu avec exigence et passion. Je reviendrai sans hésiter lors d’un prochain passage dans la région.
• Dmitrij (10/5): A hidden gem worth every minute to stay - Dahua and his family are doing everything and beyond to make the stay as comfortable as possible and offer plenty small and big services free of charge (bicycles, TV set up to watch a european football match at night, small and long rides for drop off an pick up from hiking). Initially, I couldn't believe a location can be rated with 10.0 and I rarely give a 10.0, but in this case I would give even more if I could. Additionally, the facility is in perfect condition, modern, clean and cozy with several fire places. The dinner and breakfast is cooked freshly, with a big variety: noodles, cereals, eggs, bread, even some delicious ham, meet, cheese and more. This place is really unbelievable, really calm and peaceful between the fields, just 2km from the ancient town. There's really nothing to say here...

• Sharon (10/5): Highly recommended… - Property retains the old village vibe but the interior is new and tasteful Amenities and layout well thought out. There are warmers for towels, sterilisers for cups and bedroom slippers, and even a humidifier. Family run hotel and host is very hospitable. Breakfast is wholesome and mostly homemade. We had the rice noodles which is hearty and delicious . Definitely recommended Location is a little off the main old street but host offers shuttle services to nearby town. You can also borrow one of their many bicycles and cycle around the village.

• Sergio Wood (10/5): - Notre logement préféré en Chine ! Tout était absolument parfait. L'accueil par une famille adorable (le père anglophone aux petits soins, la mère merveilleuse cuisinière et le fiston qui égaye les repas avec ses jeux), la chambre ultra confortable, le calme, les belles vues... Nous en garderons un merveilleux souvenir. Nous avons aussi pu profiter de vélos gratuits pour explorer les environs et Dahua nous a gentiment conduits au sommet de Shibaoshan en nous donnant ses conseils pour redescendre à pieds jusqu'au village. Un grand merci !

• Barbora (10/5): Magical stay - It has been so many times in the reviews, but we had spectacular stay. First of all the accommodation is beautiful, super clean with several wonderful details that we didn’t come across in Yunnan. The owner and his wife are super kind and friendly. The wife cooks delicious meals. Our kids loved the bikes and the whole village is so quiet and lovely. We really hope to return in near future. 🙏🏻

Room very clean and equipped with convenient gadgets. Don’t be discouraged by location please. It’s only about 20min walk from old town and so much quieter and authentic countryside slow paced life. Highly recommended! All perfect!

The hotel is beautiful and authentic; the rooms are clean, well-equipped, extremely comfortable, and thoughtfully designed down to the smallest details. The location is excellent. What truly made the experience special was the hotel owner and his lovely family. They host from the heart, and it shows in every detail. On top of that, the owner has a deep love for and knowledge of hiking, nature, and the history of Shaxi and the area, which was incredibly helpful for us. If you’re looking for high quality accommodation, an authentic experience, and valuable local tips - this is the place. Perfect for families, couples, and backpackers.
• Marc (10/5): Maybe my favourite trip ever - Amazing experience. We felt so welcomed and cared for the entire trip. Every detail is thought through from the food to the furnishings. Organic fresh ingredients are used in every meal, as someone who doesn’t like the excess oil in most Chinese food, this was perfect. I’m already looking forward to returning.

• Stefano (10/5): Amazing stay with amazing host, feel like being part of the family - This has been the best stay experience of my whole trip across China. The host are amazing people and the feeling was like being part of the family. The location is quiet and comfy, renovated with taste. is short did ride to the old city ( but i was also driven by the host!) and perfect when getting back through the Shibaoshan trail by foot. I has an amazing dinner and on my request they allowed me to participate in the cooking experience to help the amazing host wife in prepping as well enjoying delicious mushroom foraged in the morning by the grandfather! The host speak very nice english and was supportive on all my queries. Last comment on their son and daughter that are very kind and affectionate. I strongly recommend this guesthouse and I will be back should i visit the enchanting Shaxi area again.
• Daphne (10/5): Excellent homestay and wonderful hosts! Wish we could stay a few more days! - Clean, comfortable, homey and well thought out homestay! The owner Dahua and his family took great care of us. Will definitely come back and stay in this super comfortable traditional house on the outside but modern and equipped with high tech toilet with heating and luxurious beddings! Nothing at all!
• Joelene (10/5): - Da Hua sent us detailed instructions on how to get there prior to the stay, and the family prepared a sumptuous dinner for us as we arrived late at night. The breakfast was a spread as well, the mixian was really good! Da Hua and his family were all very friendly and warm to us, and the level of service was outstanding. Although the location may not be the most convenient (it's a slight distance from the Shaxi ancient town), they provided us with transport to and fro the city. Most importantly, the room has exceeded my expectations! The beds, the toilet, the amenities - everything was perfect! Will definitely return to Shaxi Upstay if I visit Shaxi again! NOTHING
• Sarah (10/5): Nature retreat vibes - peaceful and luxurious - This property has been favourited in my booking.com account for the longest time after watching the Chinese drama 'Meet Yourself'. I finally had a chance to go this year, and this place was everything I hoped for and more. Shaxi Upstay was the best possible accomodation I could have picked for my Shaxi adventure, run by Dahua and his very kind and hospitable family: 1. Location: A short 10-15 minute bicycle ride to the Shaxi ancient town. The property has bicycles freely available to borrow to cycle to the nearby ancient town and Shaxi bookstore. The calming bicycle ride passing by Shaxi mountains and fields is one of the memories I will never forget for a long time. 2. Comfort: The property, despite its small town charm, is outfitted with high quality applicances, complete with bidet and rain shower. I am not kidding when I say the bathroom is top in class. Even the bins are automated and the comfy beds come with in-built heaters to keep you warm in winter. The wooden outfittings and furniture also give off a lovely rustic scent. There is also a separate study with a warm fireplace, perfect for lounging in the evenings. 3. Safety and environment: As the property is situated a distance from the ancient town, it is very peaceful and serene. All doors and windows have proper secure locks on them, and the entire property also has a main gate that is locked at night. 4. Food and hospitality: Dahua was so kind and accomodative to our dietary requirements. If you are vegan or vegetarian it can sometimes be hard to find local food when travelling in China. However, he ensured that a vegan daily breakfast spread was prepared for us. It was delicious and reminded me of home. His wife is an amazing chef! We often chose to eat dinner at the property and we felt that we never missed out on Yunnan's local specialties even though we had dietary restrictions. Mushroom hotpot, Mixian, freshly baked bread, Momos - we got to try all these and more, thanks to them. ... Nothing - I loved everything about my stay here

It's very quiet and easy to access by car from shaxi old town like a 10 Minute drive or like a 20 min walk. Very nice if you wanna have some peace and quiet and really the family for me was the best Part of the hotel.

• Dominik (10/5): - I've visited dozens hotels and guesthouses in China but this one was definitely head and shoulders above all the others. From the picturesque location in a village flocked between the old town and quiet mountain trails, to welcoming and helpful host family, it all made our stay in Shaxi a highlight of the month-long China trip. I'm sure that with time the place is going to only get better. The vegetarian mixian option for breakfast was just a cherry on top.

Lo staff fornisce ottima colazione e servizio ristorante ottimo e a prezzi di mercato ( importante dal momento che la struttura dista alcuni km dalla città) . La struttura e collocata in un contesto rurale molto affascinante. La struttura non accetta carte di credito, a differenza di quanto jndicato su Booking, ho dovuto pagare in contanti, sebbene accettino valute straniere.

• Bergerard (10/5): Exceptional - Dashua, the host, make everything he can for you to spend a great time in his property. The hotel is pretty, the rooms are huge, all in wood, the beds are extremely comfortable, there is heating in the bathroom, a small library with a fireplace:) and most of all Dashua is a great host, he helps us a lot not to get lost, find the nice places. He really takes good care of his guest. Nothing. The hotel is a few km from the old town but you can take bikes at the hotel for free so it s really easy.

Our family of 4 stayed at the Beautiful Bugu family rooms with amazing views, every detail has been taken into consideration to make their place also as environmentally friendly as possible, from the materials of the guest house to their freshly hand picked herbal tea, from the organic ingredients for shampoos and body wash, to home made food all from scratch, sourced from their gardens and next door neighbours’. Simply amazing experience- 5 star professional service with passionate and personal touch from the owner Da Hua. Dahua took care of us from the point of collections to the airport drop off. His wife is talented chef from western pastry to Chinese dishes they are all beautifully made and loved by the whole family. Da Hua’s son, a lively cute little boy who played games and shared toys with our kids, which added unexpected joy to the trip. During our stay Da Hua took us to the Shaxi old town, to a boat trip in a beautiful lake, the kids managed to take little train journey, fed the monkey in shibaoshan, fed and milked the goat at the neighbour’s house. What memorable experience! We will be back! Next time would like Da Hua to take us to explore the stone caves, hiking and camping and simply staying there for a while to be totally immersed in the local culture. Thank you! None
• Peter (10/5): What a gem of a hotel! - Shaxi Upstay truly is a hidden paradise with committed owner, Dahua and his family. It felt like a natural home away from home. I was so impressed with the level of comfort and attention to detail. I’ve visited Shaxi Upstay twice — first time with Pavel Dvořák and his travel agency — and I was mesmerized by the luxurious accommodations. The staff were also excellent, which is why I chose to return for my next trip. Dahua (an experienced travel guide - can arrange even a Roadtrip in Tibet) welcomed us with tea and delicious fruits, making the check-in experience memorable from the start. His wife is an excellent cook, so you’ll also enjoy high-quality local cuisine—don’t miss the yak steak, it’s truly delicious! If you're on a long trip, you can ask the staff to do your laundry. It only takes a few hours, and your clothes come back fresh and ready for the next leg of your journey. Looking forward to visit Shaxi again an stay in Dahuas Hotel. I wish i could stay longer :)
• Sarah (10/5): Nothing can top Shaxi Upstay - We loved everything about this family run accommodation. Upon check-in, they served us herbal tea (chrysanthemum plus some other flowers) that they picked out themselves from the nearby mountains. They also served some homemade biscuits. Feel free to inform them you have dietary restrictions. They will let you know the ingredients they used so you can decide if it's suitable for you. They gave us a free upgrade and we got a lovely two bedroom suite. The views from the room were stunning. You see the fields nearby and you also have a beautiful internal courtyard view. The room includes a humidifier, warmers for your bathroom slippers and towels. The toilet has a bidet and the cleanliness is top notch. The owner speaks very good English. You will have no problem communicating with him. They provide free bicycle rentals and they can drive you around town if you request for it. Before bedtime, they served us ginger tea. They served it in the library that has a fireplace. It's a natural fireplace and not electric. The warm library has English books for children and our children enjoyed it so much. For breakfast, they served us a fully vegetarian organic meal. All the produce are organic. It was such a lovely meal. Upon check-out, they gave us a beautiful gift to remind us about the gorgeous shaxi town. Our trip to Yunnan was honestly incomplete without shaxi ancient and we are so glad we got to stay at Dahua's lovely place. I can't recommend it enough! There was nothing I didn't like. They completed every request. We wished we could stay longer. We wished we got this kind of hospitality throughout our trip in Yunnan. I have been to many hotels and small accommodations. I can say Shaxi Upstay is one of the best.
• Almaida (10/5): The room is super comfortable and clean and the design is great!!! - They have really outstanding breakfast. I had noodles and my husband had bread. It's the best noodles that I have ever eaten in a long time. My husband said that the bread is also quite nice. It's a shame that we only stay here for one night. We'll definitely come back.
