Guest Reviews
- Andrew (10/5): Lovely hotel, very friendly and helpful staff. - The property is quirky and full of character. N/A
- Sindy (10/5): Lovely cosy atmosphere with friendly staff - Lovely cosy atmosphere and great welcome from the staff who were very accommodating and found us a table in the restaurant almost as soon as we arrived, food was delicious as was the beer, room was great and the bed was one of the comfiest we have slept in. Breakfast was delicious and the morning staff were lovely and friendly too, even bringing our dog a sausage to start her day which she loved.. would stay here again without a doubt Whatâs not to like
- Anne (9/5): Would stay again đ - Great atmosphere, staff are friendly & a very lovely hotel with it's own charm đ

- Lesley (7/5): Fine, apart from the beds - Very friendly, restaurant was interesting with good food, quirky. Beds were very uncomfortable (hollowed mattresses), rather cold in the room.
- Kirstine (9/5): -
- Pamela (7/5): Excellent hotel experience. - Quirky friendly place, genial hosts. Great barbecue smoked food, good bar atmosphere. Bedroom in need of updating. Outside of property gave a negative first impression, inside was charming and interesting.
- Rosalia (8/5): -
- Michelle (7/5): The hotel is dated but you do get an email giving guests warning about this.the staff are great and canât do enough for - The staff are supper friendly, it has a great bar and the food was delicious in the restaurant Itâs very dated, from the outside it looks closed. Our room smelled of damp and the carpet was a bit sticky in places, the windows are old with gaps so a bit noisy, not sure the last time they were cleaned
- Sean Edward (10/5): Exceptional stay and wish there was more places as welcoming as this extraordinary Hotel! đ - Everything! Exceptional experience! Nothing, everything was absolutely perfect!
- Fred (9/5): -
- Catherine (10/5): Overnight stay to visit family - We loved the cosy old world atmosphere, the comfy beds, warm room & breakfast. The staff were very welcoming & friendly. Nothing

- Phannin (10/5): Black Isle must visit - Amazing place to stay! If youâre a whisky fan, they have an incredible selection. We tried the Whisky Society Ardbeg, and it was one of the best whiskies Iâve had so far.
The room was spacious, the bed was very comfortable, and the water pressure for the shower was great.
The staff were super friendly and very knowledgeable. We could stay a bit longer than a night there!
- Jozef (6/5): -
- Simon (8/5): - Interesting much better than staying in some anonymous chain
- jean (7/5): The room was very small and v cold - The staff were lovely and kind Nowhere for our dogs to relieve themselves early morning late night
- Colin (8/5): Great place to stay if a little run down. - The staff where really nice and friendly the bed was comfortable and the food and beer where great. They love dogs as well so canât be bad Itâs a little run down and the furniture in the room needs replacing.
- Tracey (7/5): A Quieky Highland treasure with lots of gin - The best thing about The Anderson are the Staff. They are all friendly, welcoming, super helpful and love the banter. Quirky bars, lots of dogs, whisky galore, American style menu which the staff can alter to personal requirements, superb breakfast and yet more whisky & gin. A 12 hour power outage due to Storm Amy didnât dampen spirits with tea-lights & guests making for a memorable night. Perfect location to explore the local area and easy, free parking around the Square. We were in a twin room 9 which was comfortable and had a lovely view. Small ensuite with fresh towels and daily house keeping. The hotel was full with many guests being repeat visitors or undertaking the NC500. Thanks to Luke, Jim the owner and his son and the girls for a mini break we wonât forget. On arrival we were surprised to see how rundown the exterior looked. With flakey paint and poorly plants. The traditional Scottish decor is faded & aged. Furniture felt sticky and dusty. However please look beyond your first visual impression and see the genuine warmth of the establishment
- Daniela (8/5): - Sehr freundliches Personal; Unterkunft direkt im Zentrum; sehr gutes FrĂŒhstĂŒck mit viel Auswahl (auch fĂŒr Vegetarier); Gasthaus direkt im GebĂ€ude; definitiv der richtige Ort fĂŒr Whisky-Liebhaber und alle, die etwas darĂŒber lernen wollen;
- Alex (9/5): - Loved the friendly family run vibe. Really good food. Exceptional bar staff and reception staff.loved the quirkiness of the place. It was exceptionally clean and most comfortable bed of our whole trip Nothing to add here

- Lanceley (8/5): Quirky place with an enthusiastic welcoming owner. Don't be put off by the outside of the premises - Staff were so friendly especially the owner. The breakfasts were excellent and the room was nicely appointed. No double glazing on bedroom windows.
- Daniel (10/5): Great Pub in a great location - Great location, friendly staff and wonderful food and beers.
- John (10/5): Donât be put off with the outside appearance when you arrive. - Breakfast was very good, we took an American type breakfast for a change and thought it was very good. We were only there for 1 night and there was nothing we didnât like.
- Meriel (10/5): -
- Stuart (9/5): Despite initial impression this was a fascinating place to stay - Atmosphere and food and beer Outside appearance
- Zoe (9/5): Quirky, friendly, fabulous and fun! - Absolutely fantastic hotel. Iâd popped in for a drink on a separate occasion and knew I needed to stay here. Very quirky, the most wonderful friendly staff, comfy bed and room. Excellent food and exquisite beer and whisky selection. Quite thin walls but an old hotel
- Martina (7/5): - Schöne ruhige Lage . Urriges Ambiente. Freundliche Mitarbeiter
- Esilda (8/5): -
- Konrad (10/5): Authentic hotel, great food and pub, friendly staff - The Anderson was what we expected from the description, but even better. It is the perfect stay if you not only want a room but also very nice food and drinks in the restaurant and pub downstairs. The breakfast was hearty and delicious as well and the staff is the friendliest you can wish for. We would come back anytime and definitely recommend staying here!
- Louise (10/5): Superb. Would stay again. - The Anderson was a charming, comfortable hotel in the heart of Fortrose. All the staff were polite, attentive and the room was super. Breakfast was excellent - fuelled me up for the day!!! Would stay there again, and would recommend to others. There were some areas of the hotel which could have done with maybe updating - the stair carpet felt a little worn, but overall, the hotel felt very clean and welcoming.
- Sharon (10/5): - Brilliant quirky hotel - the exterior is no measure of what to expect on the inside. Just loved it. Would have liked a menu that was more Scottish promoting local produce.
- Agneta (9/5): -
- Lyn (9/5): -
- Malcolm (10/5): Great stay at the Anderson - Really warm welcome from the Adderson family.Great location for fairy glen and chaldry point. Great food and a quirky place to stay A warm welcome awaits you inside don't be put off by hotels exterior which could do with a freshen up.
- Colin (8/5): -
- William (7/5): Quirky venue but the friendly service is the best thing. - We received a warm welcome at the Anderson and throughout the staff were very friendly and efficient. I think the best description of this hotel is quirky. The decor is quaint and a bit tired but on the whole everything works. Breakfast was good but some people may have missed not having cereal or fruit. We ate dinner in the hotel and enjoyed it - the menu is certainly different from what I would have expected in the Highlands but that's not a criticism. The fresh fish and seafood on offer was excellent. My room on the second floor was adequate for one person but would have been a squeeze for two as there is zero storage space. The hanging rail does not really work and there was no rail or hook for hanging the bath towel after use.
- Ariane (10/5): - Tout !

- Belinda (9/5): A pub with real character! - Lovely old pub with great food, atmosphere and staff. Enjoyed the atmosphere in the town too The bed is small but comfortable. Canât open the window for fresh air
- Louise (7/5): Interesting - Friendly staff and good food. Quirky, fun stay. Street noise and exterior could have a bit of work.
Lâesmorzar Ă©s excepcional i tambĂ© hi vam sopar i vam menjar bĂ©.

- Michael (8/5): Interessant -
- Juliet (9/5): - Whisky bar and beer garden were great. Staff super friendly and efficient!
- Holger (9/5): -
- David (5/5): Great location, wouldnât stay there again though. - The location, close enough to walk to Channery Point to watch Dolphins. Food was superb. It is tired. I donât believe âQuirkyâ is the correct description.

- Allison Reekie (6/5): - Staff were welcoming, restaurant staff were numerous and pleasant (in the evening). The evening meal and breakfast was good. The lady at breakfast was welcoming and chatty. The hotel is clear that it is a small basic, family run hotel, not part of a chain so we were not expecting a deluxe experience. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom functional. One tiny niggle - I like a clean table when eating - I do not like to sit down and feel a sticky surface under my hands. Maybe a problem with the covering on the tables but the plates and cups at breakfast were actually stuck to the surface.

PoĆciel i rÄczniki caĆe szczÄĆcie byĆy czyste natomiast caĆa reszta pozostawiaĆa wiele do ĆŒyczenia. Ćniadanie rĂłwnieĆŒ nie do koĆca speĆniĆo oczekiwania. Zapach i czystoĆÄ (a raczej brak czystosci)
- Tara (8/5): Loved this place. New bed would make it amazing - Quirky, friendly staff. We had dinner and breakfast, both were great Saggy bed, poor tv reception
- Russell (8/5): Mmmmmm philly cheese steak - This was a planned trip, but also a see what's available and we scored big time. Great hotel, bar, restaurant and our one night with the dog was fantastic. Room was what we needed, welcome was what we needed, more interest in Cooper, the dog, than us but that made is feel more welcome. Have recommended and will continue to do so. All the best. Despite being a very handsome mid forties guy, all the attention was placed on a idiot black lab who spends his time wagging his tail and using his puppy dog eyes to tell everyone that he needs more food.

- Marikie (8/5): Donât judge this âbookâ by itâs cover! - Once inside we could not have asked for better treatment. We loved the dinner and the breakfast was our best so far in Scotland. The vibe in the bar was very hearty. The receptionist, bar man and breakfast chef were all lovely. I would never have set foot in this hotel judging from the outside.đ
- Victoria (8/5): - Friendly staff. Eccentric style within the accommodation, but it was warm and welcoming A few cobwebs that have been in the room for some time.
- Darren (8/5): - Staff were brilliant and very helpful. Super dog friendly! Hotel could do with a freshen up and the bed was really soft. Would still recommend it though!
- Katherine (5/5): - Water leaked through bathroom ceiling light fitting
- Spencer (5/5): Think carefully before booking - Staff in the restaurant were polite, happy to help and courteous. Food in the restaurant. The property is very worn. Some reviews suggest itâs shabby chic and to look beyond the tired exterior. Frankly itâs just shabby and not good value. Poor quality breakfast.
- Horst (10/5): Great Place - Super Location - great Pub with superb Beer. Kitchen is wonderfulđđ
- Rachel (9/5): Best ribs I've ever eaten. - The staff were warm and welcoming, the whole place felt like people enjoyed their work and looking after people. It was true hospitality at its best. The bar is fantastic and the food was delicious. The Anderson is individual and full of personality.

- Ricky (9/5): Very pleasantly surprised and impressed, and already excitedly planning to stay again! Thanks to everyone at the Anderso - The welcome we got, the wonderful staff, the decor, the fabulous bars, the great food and drink, the amazing vibrant atmosphere, the comfortable room and the incredible feeling of being in some form of unique, living, memorabilia museum! A hugely enjoyable stay! First impressions were not all that great.
To be honest, when we stopped outside the Anderson we almost turned and drove off again! The outside of the hotel is in need of a lick of paint and a general clean up. New or refurbished windows wouldnât go amiss either. The exterior could look pretty fabulous in an otherwise very ordinary high street.
The interior could do with a little bit of love and attention as well, however I would never suggest any major changes take place other than some minor decoration, painting etc. The place is too special and unique to change anything.
