Guest Reviews
- anna (10/5): Charming, well located and friendly hosts - Free parking, lovely breakfast, period charm, warm hosts Low beams rather hazardous for tall folk😉
- Patricia (10/5): -
- Kathrin (10/5): -
- Jacquie (10/5): A wonderful stay - Kelly & Alex were fabulous hosts. Very friendly & helpful. The house is quirky. The lounge area cosy with various games & books to use. Breakfast selection is fantastic. A great sun trap courtyard. A really great experience. Thank you 😊 I'm 5ft 11 & the ceilings are on the low side due to the age of the building. Just 'duck' & accept the odd knock to the head! 😉
- John (9/5): A memorable stay in a historic house with a warm welcome. - A delightful, historic house, lovingly developed as a B&B , with low beams, 14th century features set in a garden on the edge of historic Winchelsea. Fabulous atmosphere. Most comfortable bed we have slept in for a long time! Great breakfast and catered for dietary needs. Surrounded by lovely gardens and birdsong. Hosts Alex and Kelly who made us most welcome and had helpful advice about the area. It might not appeal if you are very tall, or unable to manage uneven stairs.
- Oana (9/5): A charming and characterful stay with great food and a lovely setting. - Strand House is a beautifully restored historic property with lots of character. The rooms are cosy and comfortable, and the location is great—close to bus links to Rye and other nearby spots, or a short taxi ride away. It’s also perfect for hiking and cycling, with lovely surroundings and even a nearby winery. The garden is especially beautiful and adds to the peaceful feel. Breakfast was a real highlight—very homely, with a delicious full English and excellent pain perdu. The hosts Alex and Kelly are lovely! We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely come back! Thank you! The house is located next to a main road, so there was some noise at times. The towels had a slight musty smell, but the hosts addressed this immediately when we mentioned it.
- Volker (10/5): War rundherum ein super Aufenthalt, empfehlenswert - Total sauber, leckeres englisches Frühstück, Freundlichkeit, einfach alles War alles super
- Graham (9/5): A unique experience and the best of British hospitality - A unique house with lots of history - a great location and the hosts were very welcoming and helpful The bedroom was a bit cramped due to structure of the house but there were communal areas to use - bed was very comfortable
- Marc (10/5): A historic gem with heart & soul! - We had an unforgettable stay at this wonderful B&B. The house, dating back to 1525, has been renovated with incredible attention to detail – you can feel in every corner that everything was done by hand and with true passion. The combination of historic charm and comfort is simply perfect.
A highlight was the fantastic breakfast: prepared with so much love, fresh, and with a great variety – the perfect way to start the day, especially while looking out over the beautiful garden, which is a true oasis of peace.
The hosts were so warm and welcoming that we felt like we were staying with friends right away. If you are looking for something special and want to experience genuine hospitality, this is the place to be. We will definitely be back!
- Lynn (8/5): Very much enjoyed our first visit to Strand House and Winchelsea. - Loved all about it really. Friendly helpful owners, friendly atmosphere including the other guests and their pet friends.
Honesty bar and sitting room really nice and cosy with plenty of books and games to play. Nothing we didn't like as such. We were in the smallest room in the house so perhaps we'd choose a different room on return.
- Angelika (10/5): -
- Thomas (10/5): Excellent stay, will come back :) - The location, the building, the staff and the amenities. Nothing.
- moss (8/5): Good place to stay - Friendly owners, helpful when asked questions. Quirky place which we liked. Breakfast was good. Adequate parking available. Well situated for visits into Hastings, Rye and surrounding areas. Easy enough to find off lead walks for our dog. Being able to order a takeaway to be delivered was great and with cutlery and plates available to use. When the weather wasn't good there was a draught, and the room was quite cold. I know it's an old place, but this made it less comfortable. Extra place/hook to hang bathroom towels would be good.
- andrew (10/5): Exceptional quality stay with delightful hosts - This is an absolute treasure
Beautiful accommodation with lovely location close to Rye Nothing
- Abbie (10/5): Strand House is more than your average B&B, from the moment you arrive you feel at home - great hosts, cosy rooms an - Beautifully unique property which felt like home away from home as soon as you arrived. Kelly and Alex were great hosts, very friendly and made our stay perfect for our weekend. There was everything we needed from fresh milk to Prosecco to Love Hearts sweets! Nothing, we loved our stay.
- Shifa (9/5): Warm and cosy like a sitting by a fireplace in winter. - The hosts made us feel so welcome. It was cosy and comfortable. The breakfast was delicious and the variety was great for a B&B. Would highly recommend for a weekend or even longer if you wish to escape the city life and just sit by the warm fire with a book and a cuppa. 💕 Everything about the property is lovely.
- smart (10/5): - Alex and Kelly were such incredible hosts! It was so lovely to meet them and they could not have been more hospitable and made our stay feel like home from home. Lots of great local info, delicious breakfast and the room was really comfortable and full of character. Highly recommended! Nothing!
- Sue (10/5): Alex and Kelly are great hosts and Strand House is perfect for visiting the area and for local walks - Very clean and comfortable . Great location for visiting the area Nothing
- Paul (9/5): If you’re looking for an unforgettable stay in a place which loves long in the memory, run by wonderful people - Strand - Beautiful property, so many unique features which made our stay memorable
- Maya (10/5): Really lovely place, amazing breakfast! Will definitely be back - thank you Kelly and Alex - Beautifully preserved building. Lovely communal rooms. Bedroom was lovely, spacious and quiet. NA
- Schall (8/5): - Cobwebs in room
- Duncan (9/5): - Breakfast was really good. Room was clean and cosy and comfortable, staff very freindly.
- Alison (10/5): - A lovely place to stay. Stairs not for people with mobility issues but everything else is quaint and well appointed.
Staff were pleasant and helpful.
Excellent breakfast.
Real milk for room brew tray and very good shower. The stairs are steep and would be challenging for some people.
- Andy (10/5): -
- Malgorzata (10/5): Peaceful getaway 🥰 - If you love old houses with soul, you will definitely enjoy staying at this B&B. I loved the location, especially how close it is to the beach. The food was great, and the peaceful atmosphere made it a perfect place to truly rest and relax. One very important thing for me was that I could bring my dogs along— and we all enjoyed our stay. I highly recommend this place if you’re looking for a quiet, peaceful getaway.
- Joseph (10/5): - Lovely hotel and staff. Dog friendly. Great breakfast.
- Fausto (8/5): - Colazione molto buona.
- Nicola (10/5): Brilliant property great place to stay. - This is a fantastic old property which has been beautifully renovated by the owner and now provides wonderful accommodation for a stay in this excellent location in Winchelsea mid way between Hastings and Rye . The rooms are very comfortable and full of character. The owner is a brilliant host and breakfast from the varied menu is superb. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Strand House and will certainly be returning. Happy with everything thank you.
- David James (10/5): We thoroughly enjoyed it. - Very good choice at breakfast. Well positioned for visiting Winchelsea. Nothing. It suited us perfectly.
- Dee (9/5): Very enjoyable and would certainly visit again and recommend to family and friends. - The hosts were very friendly and breakfast was good. The location was close to the main places we wanted to visit. Kelly took time to answer our many questions and made great recommendations for places to visit and places to eat. The low ceilings were a little difficult for our tall son, and also the short bed.
- Matthew (10/5): Perfect long weekend. Thank you. -
- Jeanette (10/5): Hidden little gem - Amazing place with outstanding hosts … couldn’t ask for a better experience
- H J (10/5): Super, boven vetwachting - Ontzettend innemende gastheer en vrouw en dochter. Uiterst correct.
- Joseph (10/5): Absolutely lovely stay in a beautiful home - The hosts were absolutely lovely, the accommodation was beautiful and the breakfast was amazing. Incredible value for money and a real gem on the south coast. Will absolutely be recommending to friends and family. Can’t think of anything.
- Victoria (10/5): The warmest of welcomes and the cosiest of stays in this unique property - Such a fantastic location, close to Winchelsea Beach and the town of Rye. Strand House is a beautiful, historical building that’s been lovingly and respectfully renovated, with great amenities that blend with the charming wonkiness of such an old house. We loved the cosy living room with its log burner and honesty bar, and our guest room was extremely comfortable, with an amazing en suite (with bath and separate shower - quite a rarity in many B&Bs). Our hosts, Kelly and Adam, were so kind, friendly, and welcoming, not just to us but to all the other guests we met. The breakfast offering (cooked by Alex) was also great, and they filled our flask with fresh coffee before we set out for the day, which was an exceptionally nice touch. We could not fault our experience.
- Chloe (10/5): Perfect, cosy, well-located B&B - A cosy, perfect B&B experience. The room was lovely and comfy with lots of thoughtful touches (like herbal teas!). Breakfast was 10/10, really felt like restaurant quality. The living room with the fire was brilliant too, with lots of games and a little bar you could help yourself to. Everything was so nicely done and we felt very at home.
It was perfectly located on the outskirts of Winchelsea and a few minutes drive from Rye. A bus stop right outside which we made use of after a long coastal walk to Hastings. It’s not made for tall people but it’s sort of part of the charm!
- Charles (10/5): -
- Zachary (10/5): Fantastic experience that we would recommend. - Great location, warm, cosy and a very memorable experience in such a historic and beautifully restored building. Kelly and Alex are fantastic hosts and we’ll be coming back.
- Bovo (10/5): -
- Linda (9/5): -
- Anita (10/5): -
- David (10/5): Lovely stay in a wonderfully cosy old house with loads of unique historic aspects. - Great location, stunning old building that is quirky, yet cleaner warm and welcoming. Fabulous Breakfast!!!
- Katie (10/5): A lovely cottage with even better staff that make you feel like family! - really stunning property, felt very at home! Gorgeous interiors with exposed beams and cosy downstairs communal areas! The staff were incredible and so thoughtful! We were here for a friends wedding and they made it so special and above and beyond such as making sure we made it to the church on time and got home safely. Would stay again in a heart beat!
- Jacqui (10/5): Beautiful house, garden and room. Thank you. - This lovely house, sitting just outside the ancient village of Winchelsea, is a wonderful place to stay. The room we stayed in was beautifully and sensitively restored, with all the wonky charm of an old, old house. Owners, Kelly and Alex, could not have been more welcoming. When we asked about some strange-looking BBQ/tables in the garden, we were astonished to discover a pretty unique connection to Guy Ritchie (yes THAT Guy Ritchie). These are fire tables, designed by Mr Ritchie, and Alex fired one up for us to cook on one evening. It was magical. Sticking with food, the breakfasts were absolutely delicious. There are also snacks and drinks available, paid for on an honesty box basis. We had come for the weekend to do some cycling and swimming, but would return for the fantastic hospitality at this beautiful place. Thank you! NA
- Tim (9/5): There was a crooked house... - We enjoyed a lovely two-night stay at this characterful and beautifully decorated old house (worthy of a nursery rhyme) that includes plenty of outdoor seating, a lounge/bar with "honesty box" and a splendid breakfast. We didn't meet Alex, but Kelly was around to check us in and she made sure we had everything we needed throughout the stay. Winchelsea is a funny little village, worth the walk up the hill, but nearby Rye is where it's happening - we were around during the Rye Arts Festival...lots going on, loads of independent shops and a restaurant for just about every mainstream taste. The drive is a bit tight when the house is full. Oh, and mind your head!
- Andrew (10/5): -
- Teresa (8/5): Lovely quirky cottage. Helpful and pleasant house. Just beware if you are tall - Lovely cottage, decorated with style. Excellent breakfast and host Being an old cottage the beams were very low; unfortunately my 6ft 1 husband banged his head a number of times. Very small shower cubicle. No drinking water in the room (although available in the dining room downstairs)
- Alynne (9/5): Hotel excellent local cafes in winchelsea disappointing as hours when open were limited. It was end - Breakfast was exceptional. Friendliness and helpfulness of Kelly and Alex made our stay really special The stairs were challenging but it was well worth the effort
Verder alles prima in orde
- Michael (9/5): Great place lovely hosts - Lovely presented period property, nice size room, lovely friendly hosts great home cooked breakfast
- Costa (10/5): -
- Dr. Volkmar (10/5): -
- Paul (8/5): -
- Rose (10/5): Everything you would want for a weekend away. - My hosts were friendly & very helpful. The room was comfortably and homely. The breakfast were delicious. Ample parking. Fabulous location. There was nothing to dislike
- Grace (10/5): Comfortable stay in a lovely place with gracious hosts. - Beautiful house and garden. Comfortable room with lovely old beams.
Excellent breakfast. Nothing!
- Sandra (10/5): Hidden Gem in Wincelsea. - We liked everything about Strand House. Wonderful hosts Andy and Kelly made it a hone from home. Such a beautifully restored, comfortable, beamed cottage full filled my bucket list to stay in an old quaint cottage with history with my family who loved it. The garden was lovely with views of meadows. The breakfast was great, made just how we liked it. It was easy access to beaches and beautiful Rye and would have liked longer stay, but they were fully booked. U could hear traffic from road.
- mcq (8/5): - Breakfast was brilliant and the owners were very friendly and accommodating. .
- Paul (9/5): -
- John (10/5): Excellent -
- Charlie (10/5): -
- Kate (10/5): - The owners were so friendly. The building was so beautiful and authentic.
- Maria (10/5): - Casa tradizionale incantevole, ben curata e molto accogliente . Camera piccola ma molto pulita e funzionale. Colazione ottima. Personale molto gentile e disponibile.
Nvt
- Christopher (9/5): -
- Peter (10/5): - The B&B has great character! The hosts were also very friendly and welcoming, we felt at home.
- Tarec (10/5): Perfect BnB for a holiday in south of England - Amazing house with interesting history. Memorable stay. Very relaxed and welcoming. Family run hotel, very attentive to guests. Excellent breakfast. Nice surroundings, good for hikes.
Among the few places where you will remember you have stayed many years ahead. Very unique! All was excellent
- Ian (8/5): Very good -
- Nicholas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Katie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Julie (10/5): We really enjoyed our stay and we will probably come back in the future. - Very cosy and comfortable. Excellent mattress. The staff makes you feel at home. The house itself is actually stunning and authentic. Winchelsea is at walking distance (less than 10 minutes to the local pub) and deserves a visit too.
- Robert (9/5): We really enjoyed our stay and would certainly return. - Excellent choice which we enjoyed sitting in the garden. It was very hard tro find anything to complain about, the bathroom was small but to be expected in an old property.
- Marta (10/5): Cozy and warm house to stay! - Beautiful place! Big bedroom and excellent breakfast. The staff is amazing Nothing! The only thing to know it is take care to go in and out of the house with the car
- Mike (8/5): Very good -
- Helen (8/5): Lovely place to stay for a weekend visit to Winchelsea, Rye and coastal walks. - Excellent choice for breakfast and very helpful friendly hosts. Rooms quite which I liked but we were in an attic room with low ceilings which would have been quite difficult for very tall people. Access to the road and parking with limited vision of oncoming traffic.
- Sue (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lindsey (10/5): Exceptional -
- Johannes (10/5): Exceptional - Such a unique and charming historic house in a beautiful setting. The atmosphere is cozy, welcoming, and full of character. The hosts were very friendly and breakfast was wonderful.
- Carol (9/5): Superb -
- Amelia (10/5): Characterful old house with all mod cons - perfect! - We had the loveliest weekend at Strand House - everything was perfect! Our heavenly room with comfy bed and big bathroom, the delicious breakfasts (lots of choice) and the prettiest garden where we sat with an evening drink (honesty bar) and admired the view, all rounded off with charming owners and staff. We would highly recommend a stay here, Winchelsea is full of interest, Rye is 5 mins drive away as is the beach, and great walks (with our dog who loved her stay too). Nothing to not like.
- Martin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Elisabeth (8/5): A lovely property in Winchelsea, quirky and characterful but tall people and those with mobility difficulties must be c - Excellent host , welcoming, helpful, well versed in local history and able to recommend super walks. Strand House is a wonderful old building full of nooks and crannies, almost a ‘crooked’ house. Quirky and ancient. Great to have lounge area, drinks area and nicely appointed breakfast room. Lovely garden. Great range of breakfasts to choose from and good quality ingredients. Would have liked to have stayed longer and tried each one! Locality perfect for exploring Winchelsea, Rye and surrounding area Steepness of and bends in, the stairs. Our room on the top floor was in the eaves with the double bed under a low rafter. I was anxious about bumping my head. In fact it was just ok. Luckily my friend and I were shortish in stature so enough not to bang our heads on door lintels or exposed beams, but other guests both male and female had done so. The bathroom was exceedingly small but in the event worked perfectly adequately.
- Janet (10/5): Excellent, restful stay. - The host was friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Breakfast was excellent and plentiful. We especially liked the “trust” bar, and the access to facilities to eat take-aways. My Labrador was treated to a sausage breakfast each day.
- Tony (5/5): Uncomfortable - we left after one night although we booked for two. - Excellent host, great breakfast. Interesting, quirky property. Very noisy road. Our room (room 5) was claustrophobic and not easy to move around the room (sloping roof for 3/4 of the room). May be possible for a single room, but not really for a double.
- Louise (10/5): Beautiful weekend - Beautiful location, stunning old house, lovely breakfast,we had a lovely weekend Our room was in the attic with slanted ceiling difficult not to bang your head, floor very uneven, but it's a very old house and it's to expected, didn't affect our stay
- Roger (9/5): Very enjoyable and a nice experience and ina good location near to village (walking distance and Rye town - Old and interesting house. The comfortable bed. Quality bedding and towels. The excellent breakfast with some unusual choices available. The host (Alex). The garden and ability to sit outside. The information provided by Alex on the area. The small double bedroom. Low ceilings and doors. Just need to be careful but soon get use to it. We moved to room 1 which was bigger and more suitable. The shower and bath are small but all this is part of being in a very old and interesting house.
- Heather (10/5): Fabulous few days - Quirky, full of history but with everyday modern convenience What’s not to like!
- Stephen (10/5): If you're visiting Rye stay at Strand House it's perfect - Fantastic hosts, fabulous 15th century house ,- just soak in the history, great breakfast, lovely quiet location to visit Rye and surrounds, parking on site Nothing
- Lockett (10/5): Exceptional -
- Neil (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely couple, lovely stay in a great location. Thank you
- David (9/5): Superb - Kelly and Alex were the perfect hosts. Nothing was too much trouble, and we wanted for nothing.
It is only a 10-minute walk up to Winchelsea, which is the quaintest village in the area. There was nothing we didn't like.
- Andrew (10/5): A rather quirky but overall very enjoyable place to stay. - The location was perfect for exploring the local area. The property was delightful including the garden which overlooked farmland to the south. The bed was very comfortable and the veggie breakfast was also excellent. Not really a complaint but some of the ceilings and doorways were very low for someone over 6ft. People were much smaller when the property was built.
- Justin (10/5): Exceptional -
