Guest Reviews
- Mary (10/5): A beautiful oasis. - We loved sitting out in the morning with a coffee (grown and roasted by the owners) on the balcony watching all the different birds and butterflies.
They were more than happy to show us around their beautiful garden and to show us the beautiful sloth that lived on the property.
Great location, very peaceful. Wonderful cooking facilities. Just be aware the driveway can be a little tricky at night especially in a big car. That we didn't stay longer.
- Nadia (10/5): Pièce of paradise - The landscape, the loths, the monkeys, the well equiped kitchen, the uncle that shows you around the lot. The humidity and bad smell due to it
- Emilio (10/5): An amazing experience with my family, they absolutely loved it ! - The nature that surrounds the property is amazing as it makes you part of Monteverde with all the sounds of the rain forest!
- Mark (8/5): Great stay with a Sloth on the property! Own transport recommended as long walk to town. - Up a rough track from the main road so you feel like you are in the countryside with birds all around. Lots of space.
- Francois (9/5): I give it 6 stars out of 5. Thank you for making this a memorable experience. - What made our stay among one of the best experience we ever had in booking an accommodation are as follows. #1) The amazing support and communication skills of our host. #2) They went the extra mile to welcome us by highlighting a special event we had while being there. #3) They facilitated the 6 excursions we had planned over 3 days and everything went smoothly.
#4) While driving to side trips, we got a nail in our car tire. The host noticed the problem and helped us to get the problem fixed. #5) The location was perfect. We were far away from Santa Elena to not feel being in town but within 2 km to access all the amenities. This was ideal to experience the cloud forest. This is a very minor issue. The shower was great once we figured out how to adjust the flow to keep having a warm shower. Once we figured it out, it was no longer an issue.
- Colin (10/5): Beautiful stay in Santa Elena - Beautiful property on the outskirts of Santa Elena. Good facilities for self catering. Loved the balcony. We saw a lot of wildlife on the property (Agouti, Squirrels, Birds) and Maria's uncle showed us the sloth that was in the grounds.
Very good communication with the host. The only downside was that is was a long uphill walk into town
- Uncle (10/5): Exceptional - What a lovely property and location.
The host, Enrique was amazing with his knowledge of the wildlife..
Having resident sloths was a major bonus with Enrique showing us their exact locations. Nothing
- Lillian (9/5): We enjoyed 5 beautiful days in the Monteverde area and enjoyed speaking with one of the hosts about the birds, plants, a - Lovely location on a large forested property outside of the bustle of Santa Elena. Very peaceful. Well-stocked kitchen and comfortable beds. Very nice hosts!!!
- Vickisfbayarea (9/5): Saw more birds and sloths daily on this property than in the Monteverde preserves or parks! - Because the property is secondary forest, the trees aren't towering and dense like the primary forests of the preserves and you can therefore see birds in the tree tops more readily. Also, the abundant fruit trees attract many birds, including toucans and mot mots. The elusive quetzal appears when their favorite tree is fruiting on the property.
And sloths! The owner, Enrique, knew how excited I was to see their resident two-toed sloths, so he would locate them each day and we'd walk to the different trees they were sleeping in. He would also graciously show and tell me the names of birds and plants throughout his lush property. His land is a former coffee farm, so Enrique still harvests, dries and roasts his own coffee, which is generously provided in the apartment.
The apartment is very and spacious with a well equipped kitchen and a lovely welcome bowl of fruit. You can easily walk across the property to a little local market that has reasonable prices and fresher produce than the big supermarkets. Comfortable beds, relaxing living room and a lovely balcony to watch the sunsets through the trees. Like most local homes in the mountains, there is no insulation and therefore no air conditioning or heating (so it can be quite damp). No hot water in the sink faucets and no screens on windows, so we got bit by no see ums/midges which are active with rain. Unfortunately the hot water mechanism in the shower didn't always work.
This year the rainy season was unusually long and heavy and combined with the nearly 100% humidity, it was cold and damp inside the apartment, which resulted in mildew odors. The unfortunate reason I didn't give a 10 rating was because of these challenges, which are part of the challenges of staying the cloud forest in general that you should be aware of. So bring synthetic clothing and warm layers for the evening in case you get unexpected constant rain. Casa Euphonia is a wonderful place overall with a very reasonable rental fee, and a unique opportunity to stay in a lush Monteverde environment.
- Anat (9/5): lovely place, highly recommended, would be glad to come again - Great location, beautiful windows with lots of light and nice vegetation, surrounded by jungle trees, spacious and comfortable. The hot water
- Terri (10/5): It was a lovely week staying deep in beautiful rain forest. - The spacious house had a very well equipped kitchen and extremely comfortable furniture. All surrounded by lush forest with no close neighbors , only the sounds of birds and wildlife. We enjoyed sitting on the balcony, which stayed dry, even in the heavy rains. Enrique showed us the resident sloths and many birds. He and Maria we’re both very kind and responsive. Everything was great. We only wish we had not come at the peak of the rainy season.
- Maggie (8/5): Good value overall - Nice location, close to town but quieter, comfortable bed, pretty well equipped kitchen
Communication with host was easy and she helped organize a tour for us as well Would be nice to have screens so we could air out the place more as it was very humid (as expected for the area) and it got very stuffy/damp in the apartment with no air flow
We didn’t meet the host/have a tour like it sounds like some other guests did, but that wasn’t a huge deal
- Lovetotri (10/5): Relaxing apartment in Monteverde - This is a great apartment on the outskirts of Monteverde. The walk into town was hillier than we expected, but there was a nice sidewalk that was lighted at night, and in the end we appreciated the quiet walk home after visiting downtown. There was also a small mercado just on the corner if you needed something small and didn't want to go into town. The living room was a nice space to spread out, the beds were comfortable, and the shower was one of the best we had in Costa Rica. The balcony overlooking the woods was also great for birdwatching. The host's uncle met us soon after we arrived, and took us on a tour of the grounds, with sightings of three sloths. They grow their own coffee, which is available for you to brew in the morning. The full sized fridge was appreciated, and the kitchen had the basics you would need to cook a meal yourself. We had prompt communication with the host throughout via WhatsApp. We would have liked to air out the place a bit, especially at night, but with no screens on the windows, we would not have been able to keep out the many flies and beetles. Bugs were not a problem during the day, but at night you had to get in the door quickly to make sure not to let any friends in.
Being a newer place, not every tour company in the area were familiar with the name. Hopefully that improves as more people stay here.
- Ethel (8/5): Great host, quiet house in the Monteverde forest - Host was super friendly and responsive, made sure we had a good time. 4min drive from town center/supermarket. Great views of the forest. This was expected since the place is in the forest, so be prepared for bugs and flies. There is no AC and hairdryer if those amenities are important for you.
- Hollie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jay (9/5): Superb -
- Kayleigh (10/5): Best little place in monteverde - Amazing hosts, Great location, quiet, beautiful property with a sloth! We loved our stay here and would recommend it to anyone! Nothing! It was perfect!
- Elizabeth (10/5): Wonderful place to relax, had everything we needed. Very attentive to any questions. Fantastic for birdwatchers . - Location location location - surrounded by bird life and sloths !
Very well equipped - fantastic place to relax. N/a
- Arsak_megk (10/5): Best apartment in Monteverde - The apartment meet our expectations in every aspect. Upon arrival, the apartment was impeccably clean and well-equipped, including reliable Wi-Fi and a fully functional kitchen. The comfortable furnishings and spacious layout provided a welcoming atmosphere for relaxation after a day of sightseeing. The communication with Maria was prompt and helpful, ensuring a seamless stay. Considering the excellent value for money and the overall positive experience, I highly recommend this apartment to anyone looking for a convenient and comfortable stay in Monteverde.
- Kaare (10/5): One of the best places I have ever stayed at. - Fantastic location on large grounds. Home-grown coffee in the extremely well-equipped kitchen. Very spacious. Very nice owners. Very comfortable indeed. Resident sloth!
- Julia (8/5): Great value for money - It was spacious, clean, very well equipped.Beds and pillows very comfortable..Hot water in shower worked very well. Lots of large windows in the apartment and 2 balconie facing a wooded area ideal for birding. Sloths on the property which we didn’t get a chance to see because of our very short stay. Cannot pay with credit card, only cash or PayPal. And this info is not provided until after you make the reservation.
Not suitable for people with mobility issues because of the path and stone greatstairs leading to the apt.
- Marco (10/5): Great accomodation and the best hosts - Maria and her uncle are the best hosts we've ever had. Very friendly and always making us feel at home. The house is very big and cosy. It is not in the center so you can expect a quiet and relaxed accommodation where you can sleep properly. Having the home-made coffee is a big big plus.
- Milene (10/5): Exceptional - Cute but big house in a beautiful garden with a sloth and lots of birds
- Carol (10/5): Icould not ask for more. - Specialy the environment and relations with the relatives of the owner (birds lover). It is a bit distant from downtown but is the price to pay for having an exceptional environment
- Veilleux (10/5): Exceptional - We had a great time at Casa Euphonia! Very well equipped house and kitchen, comfortable beds, good location in Santa Elena. The property is beautiful and covered with forest, not too close to the road so quiet at night. We slept very well. Because it is forested with a few planted coffee plants here and there, it attracts many birds. In the morning I could go birding with baby before the rest of the family woke up, and saw many birds (warblers, orioles, motmots, toucans, etc). There is a sloth that lives around; it was super fun to try to find out where it was resting during the day.
