Guest Reviews
- Karl (10/5): Nice place and friendly staff - A great place to stay in a good location. The room was very comfortable. Breakfast was really good. Nothing
- david (10/5): - The buildings are charming and well decorated and comfortably furnished. Karen, who runs it, is very hospitable and does an excellent breakfast.
There are also lots of options nearby to eat in the evening.
- Lesley (10/5): We came specifically to walk through the Farndale daffodils and it was delightful - Perfect location. Wonderful hosts.
- Bev R (9/5): Amazing! - Perfect little place to stay while visiting the local auction house.
Everything was so well thought out with great attention to detail. The lady did everything she could to make out stay enjoyable.
Highly recommended!
- Derek (9/5): -
- Kelly (10/5): -
- David (8/5): - Excellent breakfasts A rather curious wi-fi problem whereby my phone kept crashing
- Emma (10/5): A wonderful place to stay. - Lovely welcome, beautiful well kept establishment. Delicious breakfast.
- Charlotte (10/5): Amazing will be back - The owners are lovely and the whole building is quintessentially English . A lovely quiet surrounding but just a short walk to a great selection of pubs and restaurants.
- Lynn (10/5): Great find. - Everything. The mill conversion is stunning, inside and out. We were offered coffee and biscuits in the guest sittingroom. Our bedroom and bed were very comfortable and a great hot shower. Breakfast was delicious, but a vegan option would have made it better for me. Hosts were very friendly and helpful. All at a very reasonable price. Nothing, but we couldn't open the window, and the bed duvet was very heavy, but it didn't stop us having a great sleep.
- Eric (9/5): Restful stay in historic mill conversion. - Nicely secluded rooms out at the back of the property so very quiet and characterful but all facilities are only 15 minutes walk into the town eg for an evening meal.
Breakfast was really great and Karen the host was very informative about the area if you had questions. No issues from me.
- Jenny (1/5): Extremely poor - Nothing The wallpaper was peeling from the walls. There was a noxious smell of damp. The bathroom was not the cleanest and very small.
When we informed the owner that we were not staying but had found alternative accomodation, she was surprised!!
I left my cosmetic mirror in the room in error (which I have had for years and was a bit tatty looking). The owner had thrown it in the bin and her comment was, ... " I threw it away it was rusty, ironic isn't it".
That comment was uncalled for. My home is extremely clean, more than I can say for the corn mill.
Her comment has fuelled this review. I was not intending to give a negative review but the owner was rude and ungracious, so here it is
I am wondering how the property has got so many good reviews. I looked back and in 2017 the very same comments as mine were noted. It makes me wonder if the good ones are fake!!!
- Helen (10/5): First Class - What an absolute gem ❤️
100% recommend.
Karen is a first rate host. It's a beautiful old mill, suitably decorated with wonderful furnishings.
The breakfast was divine.
- Kirsty (10/5): -

- Timothy (8/5): Great location for touring - Excellent breakfast Nothing
- George (10/5): Outstanding - A really beautiful guesthouse - exceeded our expectations. The whole property is packed full of the most beautiful furniture, antiques and Persian rugs. It's stunning, and I'm not sure the photos fully do it justice. As others have said, breakfast was 10/10, and Karen was such a lovely host. We would definitely stay again next time we are in the area.
- Ronald (10/5): - Great location, very friendly, good breakfast Everything
- Rachel (10/5): -
- Jack (10/5): Brilliant Bed & Breakfast - Fantastic property, and rooms. Hosts were very kind and helpful. Plus, a great breakfast. Found it to be very good value for money.

- Richard (10/5): Exceptional -
- Debra (10/5): Excellent place - we hope to be back - Peaceful property set back from the main road. Good parking. Lovely house tastefully decorated. Individual tables at breakfast carefully positioned so that you weren’t forced to stare at anyone and vice versa. Great breakfast with fresh fruit. Delightful host. Excellent value for money ! The option of a lighter quilt during the hot summer months would be helpful.
- Alexander (10/5): Peaceful and elegant surroundings and great accommodation. - Very well maintained and upgraded to a high standard. Breakfasts were excellent as was the dining room. Quiet and peaceful location. Karen and Chris the hosts were fabulous.
- Michael (10/5): Brilliant - There was nothing we could find fault with. Breakfast was excellent as was the room. Nothing was too much trouble.
- Susan (10/5): Excellent all round and highly recommended - Beautiful period building which was decorated and furnished accordingly. Bed, bedding and pillows were superb and we slept better than we have done for ages. Karen was a fantastic host, nothing was too much trouble for her and she gave us a great recommendation for dinner on our first night which was incredible. There are also self contained units on site which would be great for a longer stay or for the independent traveller but the breakfast was to die for and certainly set us up for a day of sightseeing in this beautiful part of the country. Would highly recommend and return ourselves if holidaying in the area.
Thank you Karen and Chris Nothing
- Debbie (8/5): good stay - A large room and the property had some lovely features like the old corn mill
good breakfast
parking good nothing except closer to dinner places would have been better but only a 14 min walk
- Phil (10/5): Exceptional - Hidden gem of a b&b please don't tell everyone how good it is. Comfortable clean, well furnished, well lit room. Excellent all day lasting breakfast. Perfect location for visiting East coast resorts and attractions North Yorks moors. Wonderful hosts Chris and Karen.who couldn't do enough for us. Nothing

- Gail (9/5): Superb -
- Catherine (9/5): Superb - Everything really, apart from items listed below
Lovely welcome and host. Excellent and beautifully presented food and dining area. Accommodation was very cold, even with heating on, probably due to the age of the building.
Bottom of the shower needs attention both inside and on the outside surround
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional - every thing was was perfect from arriving to leaving ,breakfast was very filling plenty of choice cooked breakfast 11/10.
The room was nice and cosey ,comfortable bed brilliant shower. might be better with a lighter quilt on the bed
- Alison (10/5): Excellent service food and very comfortable. - It was a very comfortable home from home in a great location Nothing
- Kath (10/5): Lovely stay great breakfast friendly and helpful host - Lovely property set in a tranquil location Nothing
- Philip (6/5): Pleasant -
- John (10/5): Outstanding and perfect hosts - Absolutely beautiful words cannot describe it was warm and cosy and welcoming room was outstanding and the hosts were absolutely top class Nothing
- Andrew (5/5): Attention to detailed cleanliness - The build has a lot of character, garden well looked after, breakfast was good apart from the dirty napkin You really need to get the duster out, the room was very very dusty, I know it's an old building but that is no excuse, the matress in room 3 has collapsed on the right hand side, if I rolled anywhere near the edge of the bed, you would fall out.also the napkin at breakfast was dirty, had been used before, folded up and put back. Not good enough, attention to detailed cleanliness need all over the house.
- Jeremy (9/5): Very comfortable stay - A really good B&B. Lovely comfortabable room in a beutifully renovated mill, delightful hosts and excellent breakfast. Would happily stay again.
- Jo (9/5): Great stay with wonderfully friendly hosts and a delicious breakfast in the Yorkshire moors. - Fabulous location, property steeped in history. Comfortable bed with large room and own bathroom with good size shower. Excellent hosts who greeted us with tea and fruit cake! To be honest everything was fantastic but if pushed to find something then I’d say the towels provided were not very big, a larger towel would have made our stay a perfect 10/10
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional - The room was large, warm, and comfy.
The breakfast was delicious and we had a large choice of options.
Karen was a charming and helpful host.
Top marks to Karen who very kindly posted our dressing gowns back to us the next day.
We left them on the back of the bathroom door. DOH.
VERY GOOD HOST.
- Nichol (6/5): Pleasant - Found the lighting too dull. It was a strain to see to dry hair & put make on
- Joanne (9/5): Superb -
- Harris (10/5): Exceptional - The Corn mill is lovely and spacious, very clean , well presented and really comfortable . Our hostess knows how to make people feel most welcome. On arrival we were immediately and without fuss shown to our quarters, and then allowed to settle in . We quickly felt at home and found the atmosphere relaxing . The cooked breakfast was just excellent , and all in all our stay was first class . No complaints , only very positive feedback, thank you ! Nothing at all!

- Jeremy (9/5): Superb -
- Sarah (9/5): Great place very comfortable great location - Very quiet yet close to the main road for Helmsley and the North Yorkshire Moors. Bedrooms were large and a huge bathroom. Lovely comfy beds and a great breakfast in the morning I think the breakfast room could do with some background gentle music as I felt we were whispering as the room was very quiet
- Andrew (9/5): Superb -
- Julia (10/5): Far from run of the mill. - A treat of a stay, special hosts, comfortable room, great breakfast, excellent location, in a beautiful old cornmill. Nothing.
- Terry (7/5): Enjoyable two nights while visting friends in North Yorkshire - Excellent choice of food at breakfast.
Host provided breakfast ahead of schedule when we had an early start.
- Ian (8/5): Short stay - The corn mill was very nice, very cold in our room. Decorated in old fashioned style but comfortable and clean. I would suggest that the heating be put on for a couple of hours in the mornings and at tea time. Especially in the autumn and winter months. The very cold room
- Yvonne (10/5): Excellent - Everything
- Susan (10/5): Fantastic place, good location, great host and excellent breakfast. - It was very old, but the owners worked wonders with it so you have modern twist. It made a great change from the modern hotels. Nothing
- Stephen (10/5): Without any question I would stay here again. - Karen the owner was the perfect hostess, breakfast was brilliant, cooked to perfection.
I would return in the blink of an eye, no question. Everything about the Cornmill is a class act.
- Peter (7/5): The hosts were very friendly and couldn’t do enough. - Very good The only thing I didn’t like was the decor inside, it was a bit dark and cluttered.

- Mark (9/5): Superb -
- Malcolm (10/5): A delightful few days away. - Beautiful character property full of surprises
Karen was a brilliant host. Nothing too much trouble. Breakfast Choice was very good, plentiful and tasty. Very good value for money and in our opinion the best B&B in the area. We will definitely return. Nothing everything was perfect for us
- Patricia (10/5): A very enjoyable experience - Enjoyed everything about our stay at the Corn Mill, food, great hospitality offered by Karen and the beautiful property in a lovely location. Will definitely return There was nothing to dislike. As stated we could not fault our stay in anyway.
- Ruth (5/5): Host was friendly but really needs to clean up..wouldn’t stay there again .. - Breakfast was okay..amount on plate could have been better for cost… We found the room had a musty smell especially the cupboard/ wardrobe..shower / bathroom needed a good clean….cobwebs / dust everywhere …bed wasn’t comfortable..duvet far too heavy …standard just wasn’t acceptable for cost of accommodation ..wouldn’t recommend…
- Brian (10/5): Had a really enjoyable stay and will return health permitting. - Could not fault breakfast.
Location a problem due only to my hopefully temporary difficulty walking and lack of near by dinner venues. Nothing.
- Barry (8/5): Very good -
- Robert (9/5): Superb - Lovely host, superb breakfast, and a lovely building. Will return if in North Yorkshire.
- Joanne (10/5): Rejuvenating experience with friendly hosts and can't wait to return, a real gem of a location. - The bed was so comfortable it was hard to get up in the morning, however this was important if we were to take advantage of the amazing breakfast on offer. The fresh plums stewed with cloves was an added bonus to the breakfast table, The quiet, comfortable environment was just the job to relax and enjoy the countryside that the area has to offer.
- David (7/5): Good -
- Patricia (10/5): If I was staying in that area again I wouldn’t dream of staying anywhere else. A big thank you to Karen. - It was lovely lots of finishing touches you don’t get everywhere.

- Kathleen (10/5): Exceptional - Exceptional property and service . Loved the tasteful, period style furnishings and decoration throughout the guest accommodation, including our bedroom, the beautiful guest lounge and spacious dining room. The outside area and situation of the property was pleasant and peaceful, including the stream that ran through the grounds.
Our bedroom was extremely clean and comfortable and we were greeted with tea and shortbread on our arrival.
Karen is a perfect hostess, the choice and quality of the breakfast is excellent, the plums poached in crushed cloves were delicious as was the cooked breakfast.
The Cornmill is quite unique, beautiful and comfortable accommodation which is a short walk to local eateries and facilities and there are many local attractions including gardens, historical places of interest and the lovely village of Helmsley within a short drive.
