Guest Reviews
- Stanley (9/5): Very quiet and peaceful location - A sign at the entrance to the private drive would be helpful
- Rebecca (10/5): Perfect for a short stay, we particularly enjoyed the remote location away from busy lives. - Property was in a rural location, beautiful spot overlooking fields. It was clean and had everything we needed for a short break away.
- Rebecca (10/5): Our second stay and it won’t be our last - This was our second time at Rose Cottage, we love the peace and tranquillity here. It’s always the perfect end to our UK vacation.
- Raymond (10/5): Nice relaxing with beautiful views - Lovely location great views of the countryside short distance to Rye N/A

- Sally (9/5): Beautiful location with stunning views. - Pretty cottage in stunning location. The weather was bitterly cold and the downstairs could have been warmer. Heaters struggling to keep the ground floor warm. Upstairs was really cosy.
- Katie (10/5): -
- Hedge (10/5): Really quiet location, clean house, perfect host. Recommended. -

- Beverley (10/5): - The peaceful beautiful setting
- Alan Donna (10/5): We had a wonderful time and as animal lovers it was perfect and the owner was very friendly… would definitely recommend - Beautiful setting and peaceful. Easy to get to many places by car N/a
- Max (10/5): -
- james (9/5): Loved the fantastic views and alfresco breakfast - Best location scenic views great for dogs Mattress not to our liking but everyone is different
Nichts
- Nigel (8/5): - Wonderful views of the countryside and 3 miles from Rye. I suggest to provide a brief booklet giving basic information for the area, eg. suggested local groceries shop, supermarket, pubs serving good quality dinner.
- MaggieRuthB (10/5): Tranquil location, great view and delightful, comfortable cottage - We liked the tranquil location amidst the large garden/fields and the great view of the river Rother and the Isle of Oxney beyond. The cottage had everything we needed and was comfortable and functional. The owner has put a lot of thought into providing everything a visitor might need, including extras such as the coffee machine. The owner gave us a warm welcome and her home-made scones with jam and clotted cream were a lovely gesture for our arrival. No dislikes.
- Jason (9/5): Superb - The host was fantastic, cottage was cosy, great location
- Susan (9/5): Perfect place to escape for a long weekend - Peaceful, rural location. Perfect to get away from it all.
Beautiful surroundings.
Lynda was a welcoming and friendly host.
We ate breakfast on the patio every morning and enjoyed walks around the farm.
- Roger (8/5): Great few days in a fabulous location. - The location is fabulous, amazing views. We arrived mid June and all the roses (many bushes) were out and the smell was fantastic. The cottage is well equipped though could possibly do with a couple more pans. The 'silence' with no background noise was also remarkable. Stairgate assured that the dog couldnt get upstairs. Extensive grounds and nice patio. The track down to the cottage is gravel and a little bumpy, OK if you go slow. There is an abundance of plates/bowls etc but could do with a few more pans/sharp knives.
- Ernst (10/5): A MARVELLOUS COTTAGE - The cottage is just marvellous: tastefully furnished, with cozy beds, giving the feeling of a typically English cottage out in the country. We enjoyed our breakfadt al fresco on the terrace with a view of the Romney Marshes. Hiking paths nearby - Rye just a few munutes' drive - and easy train connection for a day out in London.
Our host Lynda is a charming lady who welcomed us with her muffins. It was so nice having a chat with her now and then.
We should have spent more than just for just here.

- Raymond (10/5): Beautiful cottage - It was cosy with beautiful views and wonderful host.
- Ian (9/5): Superb - The cottage is beautiful. Such a,lovely location. Nothing.
- Ruth (10/5): Exceptional - Location is absolutely stunning, the photos don’t do it justice! Everything was clean and well provided, the host Lynda couldn’t be more helpful, and the cottage itself is gorgeous.
- Rebecca (10/5): Highly recommended: a little slice of heaven in the British countryside - We absolutely loved our stay at Rose Cottage and only wish we’d been able to stay longer. The cheese scones on arrival were delicious! Lynda is a fabulous host.
Our kids loved stroking George the donkey & the ponies. And we were lucky enough to see newborn baby lambs.
The view from the cottage is phenomenal; the peace and tranquillity there was exactly what we needed at the end of a 2 week trip spent travelling around seeing family. We’ll definitely be back one day.
- Haifa (9/5): Spectacular little cottage - Lynda is an amazing host who really went the extra mile for us. Her cheese scones are yummy, the farm animals are delightful, and the view is so pretty.
The cottage is very comfortable and well heated, the kitchen is well equipped, and the collection of DVDs is a great addition to the evenings. We also loved to walk around the property after dinner. I would have preferred bigger bath towels (I.e. bath sheets).
- Lisa (10/5): Exceptional - We had a brilliant stay at Rose Cottage, beautiful, peaceful location but only a short drive to Rye.
Very well equipped and comfortable, highly recommend.
- Neumann (10/5): A wonderful stay in the country. - Rose Cottage was exactly like its pictures and description. The beds were comfortable. the home had good heating for the chilly evenings. the cottage was clean and well-appointed. The location was scenic and lovely. And, our hostess was friendly and welcoming, providing us with delicious scones. We would love to stay again.
- Faccia (10/5): Wonderful countryside break - Lovely cosy accommodation. Everything in working order. Great host hospitality and availability. Just the escape we needed!
- Lenia (10/5): Lovely getaway to the countryside - The cottage was lovely, very cosy and with all amenities. The views are amazing and the added plus of saying good morning to the ponies and donkey made our stay very pleasant. The host is attentive and very friendly and provides great info on the area. Excellent spot to explore the area. The only thing I can think of (and it is not the hosts fault) is that the road to the farm can be a bit tricky if it has rained a lot and your car is low.
- Sergio (10/5): Very cosy cottage - Very cosy, comfortable, good location, great host and very friendly animals. Nothing
- Adam (10/5): We had a lovely time the views for the property were amazing - The property was nice and cozy, lovely view of surrounding area
- Toby (9/5): Amazing place, such a friendly host. Dog friendly. Highly recpmmmended - Lovely tranquil spot with amazing views. Very friendly and helpful host. V close to rye and the sea and several national trust properties. Beautiful countryside Was quite chilly but we were there during a cold snap
- Michaela (10/5): Loved the home from home Host arrived with home made scones and very flexible as to arrival times - Loved the coziness and the donkeys
- Tim (10/5): Perfect getaway for us and the dog. Loved the location, Fabulous. - Homemade cheese scones on arrival were lovely! Tea, coffee and milk were a really nice touch. Thank you.! TV could have been slightly larger, but really not a major concern..
- Kiren (10/5): perfect stay - location is absolutely stunning. incredibly relaxing and beautiful surroundings.
- Jessie (10/5): Exceptional - We loved our stay at Rose cottage, the scenery was breathtaking and the host was so friendly and welcoming :)
- Stephen (10/5): Fantastic. - The accommodation was clean well presented and really comfortable. The host met us and explained where everything was. She even made us a fresh batch of scones which were delicious and a very welcome start to the holiday. The views from the cottage must be some of the best in the area and was great fun feeding the Donkey and ponies apples and carrots. We have stayed in and around Rye many times and this was without doubt the best location we've had. We will definitely return.
- Barbara (8/5): Beautiful countryside cottage with amazing views. - Fantastic location, charming cottage off the beaten track. Ideal for a quiet relaxing stay.
Homemade cheese scones on arrival was a beautiful personal touch. My only niggle and its purely personal preference but the double bed was a little firm.
- Luke (10/5): 2nd time staying here. Such a nice location and the host was extremely friendly and welcoming. - Nothing
- Hans (9/5): Superb - Great location and very nice property with brilliant views. Somewhat secluded but very good directions were provided by a very friendly host. If we go back to Rye we definitely want to stay here again. Really nothing to complain about, just a minor observation. Even though it is not listed as a feature, wifi is available. Usually it's OK but sometimes connections are dropping.
- Matt (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful cottage, we really enjoyed our stay, comfortable and cosy!
- Julie (10/5): Wonderful family break in a beautiful cottage in tranquil surroundings. - We loved our stay at Rose Cottage. The surrounding area is beautiful and we had lovely weather. The kids loved meeting the ponies and donkey, the dog loved the enclosed patio.
- Raymond (10/5): We had a lovely stay very relaxing - It was clean and homely
- Reinier (9/5): We had a nice comfortable stay at Rose Cottage. - Part of the ground floor was taken up by a garage, but there was a very nice living room and kitchen. There were two bedrooms upstairs. The stairs were a bit dicey - another hand rail on the open side would be nice. The bedrooms were a decent size, as they took up the entire first floor above the garage. The views to the Rother River were outstanding. And there were ponies and a donkey to feed carrots to. The wifi was not reliable, but our host did here best to get it to work. Rose Cottage is a bit out of the way, and internet service is sketchy. The road to the cottage is a 3/4 mile long single lane dirt road with many potholes.
- Sheila (10/5): Relaxing weekend with family - Peaceful location. Lovely cottage which was well equipped.
Patio area with wonderful views.
Donkey and ponies in field. Road down to cottage was challenging. Uneven and lots of potholes.
- Samantha (9/5): Perfect if you want to immerse yourself in nature. - The views were stunning. It’s off the beaten track so it’s perfect for getting away from it all. The host was super friendly and I loved the fact we were surrounded by animals.
- Manu (9/5): gorgeous cottage in the midst of nature - Our host was very friendly and welcoming. The street/path to the cottage has a lot of potholes and it's quite difficult to get there fast.
- Victoria (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ozlem (10/5): Exceptional - I really recommend to stay at this cottage for weekend escapes😇
- Joanna (7/5): Good -
- Jayne (9/5): Such a wonderful peaceful cottage to relax and unwind over this short stay - such a beautiful, peaceful location with lovely private terrace & fabulous views for miles.
We visited the week before christmas and the cottage was warm and really welcoming .
Very clean, bright with oodles of charm ... it has everything we needed.
Thank you Lynda also for the most wonderful cheese scones and your welcoming, friendly manner.
- Willy (10/5): a safe haven during the storm - We were in Rose cottage during the storm and had quite an eventful time there. Due to the storm there was a powercut that lasted more than 30 hours! But our landlady Lynda did all she could to make our stay agreeable. She brought us a gas stove so that we could make some tea, torches, candles, etc. She dried our clothes and shoes as she had a wood stove in her own house. We feel that if a landlady shows so much concern for her guests, she is worth a 10 and more!
- Andrea (10/5): Rural peace - Very cosy with lovely cottagey feel. Peace and quiet. Host Linda was delightfully attentive to our every need. Nothing
- Rebecca (10/5): Just perfect - Fabulous location Nothing it was perfect
- Maria (10/5): A perfect, peaceful, relaxing weekend. - The cottage was perfect. Views outstanding, location great and Lynda our host was very welcoming (especially the home made scones!).
- Natalie (10/5): Simply delightful! - The location was stunning and exactly as described. Waking up to that view was incredible. The highlight for us was Lynda who gave us so much great advice and support during our stay. You couldn’t ask for a better host!
- Kelly (10/5): Beautiful cottage , lovely host ∧ gorgeous scenery. Not to mention the donkey & ponies which ma - The idyllic location was perfect for a few days out of London. . No negatives at all
- Anonymous (10/5): We stayed here as we had a wedding, and it is completely stunning and it completed our lovely weekend - It’s just stunning Not one thing
- Mel (10/5): Relaxing and beautiful scenery - Lynda the host was friendly and helpful. The property is in the most beautiful setting.
- Jeffrey (10/5): Will return one day - All was great Liked all
- Louisa (10/5): The perfect retreat for rest and relaxation - We had the most beautiful stay at the cottage. It was idyllic and Lynda was a charming host.
We had freshly baked cheese scones welcoming us in.
You instantly feel relaxed in the beautiful surroundings and we fell in love with George and the ponies. We are already planning our return! Was nothing not to like!
- Jane (9/5): Great for quiet break with friends - Quiet location Poor WiFi
- J (8/5): Hidden Gem! - Views were amazing, cottage was cosy, and the owner of the property was very helpful.
- Francoise (9/5): A very serene stay... - As another visitor wrote, the photos don't do Rose Cottage justice. It is a magical place. The house is cute and comfortable. The beds are good, and the kitchen is well-equipped. We are greeted with delicious homemade scones. But what really makes Rose Cottage unique is the fact that it's surrounded by fields, with no neighbors, and that we can go and say hello to the animals - a lovely donkey and horses (shetland horses?). You feel amid a comforting and profoundly beneficial nature.
We stayed for two nights but could definitely return for longer. In any case, it's our place of choice if we're in Kent.
From Rose Cottage, it's easy to explore the region and visit Rye, Sissinghurst, Bodiam Castle, etc. The only thing to watch out for is the stairs. As with any old house, it's steep, and there are no handrails all along. However, my 81-year-old mom had no problems, but you still have to stand on your own two feet to use these stairs.
- Annemarie (10/5): Comfortable cottage with splendid views - What a great place! The cottage has everything you wish for - and more! (Like a bath!) But we especially loved the views; they’re even better than on the pictures. And our dog loved exploring the land with the horses and donkey. Lynda is a great host and we can recommend her beautiful Rose Cottage! Nothing
- Keith (9/5): Will come again great cottage and host - Breakfast not supplied
Location superb Bigger TV but that’s really a problem
- Redbootsman (9/5): Superb - Comfortable beds, always important....
Idylic location, with beautiful views, srrounded by nature...
- Mark (9/5): Superb -
- Nicola (10/5): Perfect for girlfriends to chill - Rose Cottage is a beautiful place with idyllic scenery a great host in Lynda and a clean and comfortable place to stay. I stayed with my mum and my best friend and we didn't leave to go anywhere (although there's plenty around with Rye on the doorstep), we just wanted a place to relax and chat - and it was perfect.
The donkey George and his miniature pony friends were gorgeous- take as many carrots as you can carry to feed them and they'll love you for it. Nothing
- Rachel (9/5): Tranquil and picturesque - peaceful, pretty, cosy and very comfortable
- Yvonne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jenny (10/5): Exceptional - Rose Cottage was so lovely and in a stunning location. My friend and I enjoyed staying there and will definitely book to go again. Lynda was very welcoming and it was nice to arrive to some freshly baked scones. By far the best I have ever tasted. Thanks Lynda for making our stay so enjoyable. There was nothing to dislike.
- Margarita (10/5): Exceptional - So pleased to have found Rose Cottage. We received a warm welcome and very tasty scones on arrival.
Beautiful surroundings and close to Rye and Camber Sands.
Highly recommend, we will definitely be back 😊
- Rob (8/5): It was a lovely stay and had everything we wanted - The grounds and view were amazing. The kids loved seeing the donkey and horses and did good morning and good night to them each morning and night. The cottage was cozy and we all felt very comfortable in it. The owners were also super helpful and friendly at all times The oven wouldn’t work properly but that was literally it.
- Svetoslava (9/5): It was lovely. Would definitely go back and recommend to friends. - The cottage was charming, the views wonderful and the landlady very welcoming and helpful. She had made delicious cheese scones for our arrival.
- Samantha (9/5): Superb - comfortable, well equipped. friendly & helpful host.
- Julie (10/5): perfect ❤️ - A little piece of heaven. Our second visit and I’m sure we will have many more.
- Sam (10/5): Stunning, peaceful, cosy, great host, fab location! - Stunning location and cosy cottage, had everything we needed!
- Stephen (9/5): Really relaxing and comfy and we felt very welcomed - Especially the location It was a little cold in the evening
- Neil (10/5): Exceptional - The cottage was lovely and in a stunning location. It was equipped with everything you need for a weekend/week stay. The owner who's house is next door is very friendly also. The scenery around the cottage is amazing and it is only a short drive into Rye.
- Michelle (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mary-ellen (9/5): Relaxing weekend away, fresh air and laughter with a kind and helpful host to answer all questions. - We were left cheese scones as a welcome and the host was so helpful with providing recommendations to meet our needs for the weekend. The views were stunning. Nothing
- Helen (9/5): Would be delighted to visit again in better weather! - Cottage was lovely, and had lots of thoughtful touches. Fabulous view in good weather. Donkey and Shetland ponies in the field. Lots of interesting visits and good food nearby. The farm track leading up to the farm and cottage is very rough with a high median and could be difficult for low slung cars. The heaters found it difficult to cope during an exceptionally cold period.
- Ruth (9/5): Just what the doctor ordered ... a peaceful birthday escape with a wonderful, warm host ... I will definately he back in - Tucked away in a beautiful location, this quiet & clean space was very relaxing & had everything you needed. The views from the upstairs were wonderful & the rooms spacious but cosy. The home baked cake was such a thoughtful touch ... Nothing really ... possibly a little cold downstairs but we did choose a bitter weekend, a few more kitchen utensils ... some scales for baking, blind for kitchen to help with warmth & heavier curtains to block out light in double bedroom.
- Brett (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hazel (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely scenery and comfortable, well equipped cottage on a pretty farm. Very friendly welcome and delicious scones on arrival.
- Brandon (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nathan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Emiliano (10/5): amazing stay in a peaceful place - We loved everything about this property but mostly the host can’t say anything! all was good
- Mandy (10/5): Stunning property, lovely quiet location and very welcoming. - Lovely quiet location with opportunity to going walking. Donkeys in the field and gorgeous view.
We were met by a very welcoming lady with the keys, she had even baked us fresh cheese scones, such a lovely personal touch. It was perfect for 4 adults over New Year.
- Susan (9/5): Superb -
- Anonymous (10/5): a wonderful short family break - the location is stunning a real escape ! host is lovely and we would stay again I liked the property it was good value
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional -
- Trevor (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joanna (9/5): A perfect cottage holiday location. - This quaint and cozy cottage was perfect for the two of us. The surrounding countryside is beautiful, the grounds are beautifully kept. Our thoughtful host left fresh milk in the fridge and baking which was most appreciated. We loved our stay here and have no complaints. I would add that the lane that leads to the cottage is a bit difficult to locate. Also, be aware that the stairs to the upper floor are quite steep and may not be suitable for guests with mobility issues.
- Cathy (9/5): Idyllic setting for a hideaway cottage. - Rose Cottage is set in the most beautiful location with a spectacular view over Romney Marsh. The property is quiet, peaceful, well equipped and spacious. Car parking is perfect with easy access to the cottage. There was a basket of freshly baked cheese scones and milk in the fridge to welcome us. The proprietor was extremely friendly and helpful with suggestions of places to visit and eat for those unfamiliar with the area. I do not feel that there is anything that I could write here. The Cottage is beautiful and the proprietor kind and helpful. Perhaps a note of warning - you do need full details from the proprietor to ensure that you have directions to the Cottage - without them it is very difficult to find. This was my fault as I had not picked them up from Booking.com.
My other suggestions would be a nightlight at the top of the stairs as it is pitch black at night if you need to use the bathroom. The stairs are quite steep and ‘open’ - perhaps a better stair rail might give more security particularly when carrying luggage and lastly - possibly it is time to change the mattress in the main bedroom?
- Darrel (10/5): A most pleasant and relaxing stay. - Location was excellent, being nice and quiet. It was also close to several good pubs for food as well as interesting places to visit to look around, eg: Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, Bodiam Castle, Tenterden. Our host, Lynda, was very kind and welcoming.
