Guest Reviews
- Greenrodge (8/5): Well worth a visit - Super friendly staff who were so helpful. Food was delicious! The roaring fire in the bar area and covered smoking area in the garden to the rear were very much appreciated, considering the wet weather. Plenty of car parking space available. Overall we felt very welcome and enjoyed our stay. Would certainly stay again. Understandable considering the inn is a bit remote and set in a valley, but no phone signal (on O2).
- Helen (9/5): - Staff were very friendly. Good gluten free menu. Comfy bed. Great breakfast Nothing
- Kathy (10/5): - Historic inn in a remote valley. The staff were incredibly friendly and kind. The room was comfortable and quiet. The food was delicious and fairly priced.
- Richard (10/5): - Excellent location, clean and comfortable accommodation. Friendly staff, good food and drink. Great value for money.
- Graham (9/5): Friendly, helpful, jolly and comfortable. 5 STAR. - Very friendly, casual, overtly helpful and jolly staff. Excellent comfy room. Welcomes dogs. Good evening meal and breakfast. Excellent relevant artwork on walls relating to location, photographs, Lake District, maps, interesting extracts from newspapers. Please note, this is a seriously remote location, with a single road through the Duddon Valley. Perfect for real outdoor enthusiasts but a very long way indeed from the nearest shop.
- Josh (10/5): A fantastic pub for a walking holiday - Fantastic location, the accommodation was clean and comfortable, lovely and peaceful in the evenings, the pub offers a wonderful menu with a wide range of dishes to choose from, the staff are very friendly and accommodating, would definitely recommend.

- Deborah (9/5): Wonderful location, lovely staff, good breakfast, comfortable room - Brilliant location, beautiful countryside and close to campsite where family staying. Good breakfast. Booked very last minute and didn't realise we had a suite - a little living room with sofa and armchairs as well as the main bedroom! Fresh milk from the kitchen for our tea and coffee. The TV didn't work. Found out late in our stay so not really a problem.
- Melissa (9/5): Would definitely return. - In the middle of nowhere we weren’t expecting much from this country inn but the room was warm and spacious with an electric heater we could use to dry out everything. The food was excellent and staff were lovely. Nothing
- Jarek (10/5): Highly recommended - We had a great stay at Newfield Inn. Really nice accommodation, fantastic quiet location and great service.

- Daniel (10/5): I was in need of rest and recouperation and I got it along with a warm welcome and fantastic service - This is a lovely traditional inn, I arrived soaked and exhausted and in need of recouperation, the staff and the setting made me feel instantly at home, after a few beers by the fire I was well on my way to feeling great. I can’t stress enough how friendly and helpful the staff are. The room was comfortable and well enough equipped, wifi is half decent despite being in the middle of the hills. It’s a beautiful location with dozens of great walks on the doorstep. Prices are high in the area but this place was reasonable for what you get. I had a big proper breakfast with copious bacon included in the price, felt it was great value. I can’t easily fault this place for the price it could be more luxurious but then the price would need to be far higher and I wanted for nothing so I’d not change a thing.
- Adrian (8/5): Very good -
- Richard (10/5): Very enjoyable stay, great value - 2 night stay, excellent base to explore the duddon valley. Simple, clean and comfortable accommodation. Excellent food and drink. Friendly and helpful staff.
- Michael (8/5): Very good -
- Simon (8/5): wonderful - A ghood size room, nicely done. A warm relaxed welcome and excellent food. Teh room is above the bar/restaurant with little sound proofing in the flooring so you can hear people chatting downstairs.
- Agnieszka (10/5): A hidden gem in a remote and tranquil location with plenty to explore and take in - A big thank you for offering clean and comfy accomodation and great food to walkers in a remote and beautiful location.
You make such a difference to walking and staying in the Duddon Valley :))) and helping me to do the Wainwrights (Hard Knott, Harter Fell and Green Crag) on foot.
- Simon (8/5): Looking forwards to future return visits - Fine location
Friendly staff
Decent food and great cooked breakfast
- John (8/5): A good way to start our holiday in Cumbria. - The flat was very clean. The food was excellent as always, and the staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. We have been going to Seathwaite for over 50 years (!) and have stayed at the Newfield several times - the hospitality is always good. There's nothing not to like about staying at the Newfield.
- Kay (8/5): Very good - Basic , clean and comfortable accommodation in an amazing area if the Lakes.
Fab breakfast
Friendly and helpful staff
- John (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mark (10/5): Wonderful, excellent staff, location, beauty, food and comfort. - Wonderful overnight stay at the Newfield Inn Arrived at lunch and greeted by owner Les who was extremely welcoming.
Our room was already ready so we were able to drop in our bag. Room was very spacious with separate sitting area and excellent views of the valley. The Duddon Valley is a very special part of the lakes and numerous spectacular hikes to enjoy right from the pubs back door, Dow Crag, Harter Fell, Green Crag and etc as well as beautiful walks through the woodlands and rivers on the valley floor. Les and his team could not be more welcoming, post hike we enjoyed a gorgeous home cooked meal, stunning lamb shank and homemade nut roast, chef Dave even took the opportunity to ensure everything was to our liking. Bar and restaurant are extremely comforting and stacked with historical photos of the pub and valley, We were treated to a log fire later in the evening in the bar whilst chatting with barman Zach and locals from the valley.
- Kathryn (8/5): Nothing flash but perfectly adequate - Location
Friendly staff
Room was well equipped with two rooms and balcony
Comfy bed
Excellent shower
Everything needed was provided- toiletries, tea n coffee, hairdryer, heater... Very poor Wifi reception in room
Some areas were quite grubby
- Diane (10/5): This was one of our favorite experiences as a place to stay. Wish we’d known how lovely it was - we’d have booked for a - Secluded, rural, beautiful. Lots of walking paths. The pub food was outstanding! The staff were extremely hospitable. More lamps designed for reading would be nice to add.
- Elizabeth (8/5): Very good - The area & restaurant on site Broken steps
- Paul (9/5): Clean & comfortable - Breakfast was well cooked & tasty. A good cup of tea.
Accommodation was well thought out & comfortable. A good shower, & use of fan heater in sitting area. All a pleasant surprise
- Stephanie (10/5): One night in the lakes - The room was very clean and spacious, plenty of tea and coffee and toiletries. Beautiful views.

- Julie (10/5): Exceptional - Proprietors were uber friendly and couldn't do enough to help us settle in... thank you so much.
- Rita (9/5): Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, friendly staff, good food, very peaceful, would definitely stay again. - Breakfast was very good and the location was quiet and very peaceful. & lots of nice walks. Only one thing I can say is that the mattress was very soft but I have back problems so others may find a soft mattress ok.
- Sigrun (8/5): Very good - The scienery and the Food!
- Catherine (8/5): Very good -
- Rhiannon (8/5): Perfect for an overnight stay, warm - Did the job, cute wee room above a traditional Cumbrian pub. Great place to stay if you also want to enjoy some real ales and Cumbrian food. The staff were all lovely and it had good heating (not always the case in these parts). The breakfast the next day was tasty and served in front of a roaring fire. We thought it was great. A bit more basic so those wanting a fancy room may not like this, but it was perfect for us. The noise does travel from the pub below, which either adds to the atmosphere or annoys you spending on what kind of person you are
