Guest Reviews
- Paul (10/5): -
- Tim (9/5): - The hideaway was a beautiful space, really comfortable and with everything needed for a good night. The pub downstairs was extremely noisy which made sleeping difficult.
- Eleri (10/5): - Fabulous stay! Cannot wait for my next visit!
- Claire-Marie (10/5): Beautiful accommodation, friendly & helpful staff - Stunning, comfortable, sparklingly clean, staff were brilliant. Nothing
- gary (9/5): -
- Neil (10/5): - Brilliant service Nothing
- Wyn (8/5): -
- Avi (6/5): - Nice room No Table or chair, and the lights were dim.
- Eveline (10/5): -
- Elizabeth Janice (10/5): A perfect start to married life, comfortable and enough room for vistors etc to prep for wedding and everything else. - Pure luxury. Perfect for our wedding weekend. Nothing.
- Severine (9/5): Lovely place - Lovely big comfortable bed, bless, nice bathroom and bathtub in the bedroom. A bit of noise from downstairs
- Amy (9/5): Top quality stay in a lovely part of Wales - Possibly the most comfortable bed I have slept in. The furnishing were top quality and the staff in the pub/ restaurant were lovely. It is a great location for accessing Southerndown beach and Bridgend areas. Loved the detail of the fixtures and fittings
- Lisa (10/5): Excellent stay, top notch accomodation and great food in the adjoining pub - Top end fixtures and fittings. Really great decor and extremely comfortable It was all good
- Lynn (8/5): Perfect location for Porthcawl golf, Hideaway is a comfortable, large bedroom accommodation with excellent pub below and - Staff at Fox friendly and helpful, wanted to ensure we had a good experience at The Hideaway
It was a large room, clean, comfortable, good shower The room itself is quite dark and as other reviews there is a bit of road noise. Bring above a bar you can hear the customers & music but The Fox staff do their best by turning bar music off at 9pm and lounge music at 11pm
We took our own breakfast and suggested to the team that a simple breakfast box of fruit juice, cereals & croissants could be offered and included in the price
- Matthew (9/5): -
- Jim (8/5): -
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nick (9/5): Great accomodation for a short break in the area, in walking distance of Old Castle Down - Lovely room with bed, sofa, TV and actual bath in the main space (separate shower in the bathroom). Nice and cool in hot weather, and pub for evening food just downstairs. Food a definite cut above ordinary pub fare, some really well presented dishes! Lack of breakfast, but list of local cafes provided (all a short drive away) and a Spar village shop across the road. so not a problem. Some traffic noise if windows left open at night.
- Martin (8/5): Very good - Fabulous room, above a lovely looking pub. The room was enourmous and really well appointed, a bit of luxury
- Darren (10/5): Exceptional -
- Goggin (10/5): Very happy - Everyone very friendly and helpful All excellent
- Mia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Adele (9/5): Perfect one night stay of relaxation š - Room was superb- super king comfy bed, decor top notch.
Food in restaurant great
Staff polite, friendly and helpful Why do places have cups when most people need a mug first thing ! š
As breakfast not included a couple of pain au choc in fridge would be nice š
- Kate (9/5): It was great for what we needed and the food in the pub during the evening was delicious. - It was an amazing space, super comfortable, but a bit chilly when we arrived as the heating was not on. I think offering some sort breakfast included in the price would have been a good idea. We were unsure whether we were going to get breakfast or not and it was quite a big price to pay without breakfast.
- Vanessa (7/5): Beautiful room, lovely touches, great pub - Beautiful accommodation, perfect location, food in the pub downstairs was fantastic. Nice little touches in the room itself. unfortunately the heating didn't work and we were quite cold, we did inform the staff who were very helpful and said they were aware of the situation and they had rebooted the system and it would come on, unfortunately it never did. We gave up in the end and wrapped ourselves in the duvet.
- Paul (9/5): Superb - Excellent room. Comfortable and spacious. Bath was great. Pub food downstairs was very good
- Penny (8/5): Glamorous, comfortable room. Noisy at night ( as to be expected) - Lovely room, great location, nice pub beneath. Very comfortable bed. Noisy at night ( as to be expected over pub).
Lack of shampoo and conditioner in shower.
- Lisa (6/5): Noisy in paradise! - The Hideaway was exceptionally appointed and exceeded my expectations in comparison to the photos. The bed was comfortable and staff were friendly and I was really looking forward to a night of relaxation as describedā¦. ā¦..however, it was live music night (Thursdays) which I wasnāt aware of, and having reviewed the details, there isnāt any information available. Had I been on holiday maybe this wouldnāt have been an issue, but I was travelling with work and needed an early night. Before 8pm I could hear chatter in the bar which didnāt bother me. However, thereafter for three hours it sounded like the band were in the bedroom. I have tried to address this with the property and booking.com, however I havenāt had a response from either which is disappointing.
- Charles (6/5): NO BREAKFAST - NO Breakfast which was a a real shame Good room and location
- Stephen (7/5): Good - it was clean and bed comfortable Noise from the pub downstairs and the traffic - the bright exit sign that kept us awake
- Stephen (9/5): Superb - Lovely staff met me on arrival and took me too my room which was lovely. My room was above the bar. I could hear music and chatter till about 11pm
- John (8/5): Nice accommodation - Room size and decor. Excellent customer service especially from Menna Hill. Bar facilities and food in The Fox to which accommodation is attached. Good en suite facilities. Instructions for TV - very complex procedure to get basic free view channels. Fridge ineffective. Room quite dark - lighting needed during day. No breakfast facilities.
- Leanne (6/5): Pleasant - Much thought has gone into fitting the room with good quality and comfortable/relaxing furnishings.
The bathroom is lovely and everything was clean and well maintained.
There were several complimentary snacks, all of good quality left out for us and the small bottle of fresh milk in the fridge was a nice touch.
The bed was very comfortable and the deep, free standing bath which is plumbed into the bedroom is a lovely touch.
Parking available opposite the pub was good as the spaces were well lit overnight. TV not programmed for live broadcasts.
We had to log into Netflix via our personal account but would have liked morning news/standard tv options to have been available.
Noise from the music directly below impacts your evening rest if you are home before pub closes - unsure if soundproofing could be improved or not.
Sadly the kitchen was closed to anything other than bar snacks during the evening, this was disappointing after seeing all the lovely photos of food that enticed us to book here.
This next bit is my miss, but thereās no breakfast offered. Which is a watch out as thereās no local breakfast/deli in the village, just a Spar.
A coffee machine (Nespresso pods for example) in a room of this calibre is fairly standard, although you are presented with two sachets of filter coffee and four loose tea bags so the team have taken morning coffee into consideration.
Ā£400 for two nights with no main restaurant, breakfast or mid stay housekeeping, was a little on the high side. If breakfast was offered - even at a charge, it would have made the stay much more enjoyable and relaxing.
- Eva (10/5): Fab š«¶š¼ - Room was as expected loved the complimentary crisps and Nobbyās Nuts. The bar team were very friendly, bed was Soooooo comfy, drinks and food in the restaurant was good too. Loved how dog friendly they were. And size of shower and Bath in the room was perfect. On arrival the room was very cold, lovely lady I thought had put the heating on however when I went back to the room it was still cold š„¶I headed back to ask for assistence and the owner was there who kindly helped me (Thank you Gavin) For some reason we could not get the TV to connect and work and the team in the bar were very busy so didnāt really want to bother them with this, but just to give you the heads up for your next guests. Also Iām guessing the cleaner loves to clean the pub with music on as we were woken up early Sunday morning by thisā¦.good choice of music though šš¤Ŗ
Over all though Iwill be back and have already recommended this place via my social media šš«¶š¼
- Lisa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Morgan (7/5): Largely positive. Beautiful rental, but missing some expected luxuries to justify price. - Lovely staff, who did their best to try and remedy issues raised.
Beautiful room and lavish furnishings. Homely and cosy.
Comfortable bed. A range of pillows and blankets.
Large shower.
Easy to access via private entrance.
Early check in and late check out.
Good parking.
Lovely and warm.
Quality restaurant. Good food and great selection of drinks. Excellent wine and cocktails. Great atmosphere in bar and restaurant. Unable to have a bath due to stagnent water, which should have been a highlight of the stay. Very unpleasant smell and a health and safety concern. Staff did offer some money off drinks bill due to this issue which was very appreciated.
Although the Hideaway is a lovely venue, I feel it is overpriced and missing some expected 'luxuries' you would expect from a pricier rental. Advertisements on Facebook indicate 'white robes, champagne, and a bubble bath.' No robes or bubble bath are provided. No welcome drinks.
Milk provided was gone off and out of date. Limited selection of hot drinks.
TV not tuned in or connected to the Internet. Unable to use.
High noise levels from the bar and road.
Host unresponsive via emails.
- Adele (4/5): Disappointing - The room was comfortable. Very over priced for room only above the Fox pub owned by Gavin Henson.
The TV did not work despite asking if someone could have a look at it.
Tea ,coffee was not replenished.
Would have been a nice gesture to have at least had an offering of perhaps a couple of croissants or biscuits for the price we paid.
- Rebecca (7/5): It was ok - Lovely location Tv didnāt work
- Tom (7/5): Good - The room was so big and comfortable. Everything decorated lovely and the staff were super friendly! No milk to make a hot drink with and no password for the WiFi left.
- Anonymous (10/5): Excellent if we had a tv - Everything No WiFi for the tv so we had no tv for our stay which really spoiled it..
- Gareth (10/5): Outstanding in every category, thank you. - The room is exceptionally well-appointed, comfortable and clean to a fault. The staff could not be more friendly or helpful. The food was absolutely delicious. The was truly nothing to dislike.
- Donna (9/5): Lovely stay and would recommend. Not too far from beaches. - Property was very well maintained, comfortable bed and pillows. Very clean and welcoming.
Food in the evening was fantastic with a good choice on the menu.
The shower gel smelt amazing and wished I made a note of the supplier to purchase some too! Expensive considering no breakfast included.
Road noise was quite loud but didnāt disturb us during the night.
- Sophie (10/5): Awesome! - Everything, was amazing! Nothing
- Kevin (8/5): Very good - The bed bath size of room Only ambient lighting could do with a main light and room wasn't ready for when we arrived but the staff did there best to get the room ready asap
- Julie (10/5): Excellent and will definitely return - Fabulous atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff, excellent food and lovely room
- Sarah (10/5): The perfect hideaway ā¤ļø - Spotlessly clean, finished to a high standard.
Comfy bed and pillows, nice linen & towels too.
Loved the bath in the room, it was bliss!
Special thanks to Vicky & to the lovely chef who brought me a breakfast sandwich in the morning!
I canāt wait to return.
Little hidden gem ā¤ļø There was nothing I didnāt like
- Mark (9/5): A really unique stop over point - The fox pub / hideaway is a great little spot very close to Bridgend the dƩcor is amazing its really nice accommodation at a very competitive price. Near by is the coast, some great places to visit and the decent sized town of Bridgend, ALSO there is a designer brands outlet about 15 minutes drive away that I went to twice. wifi was slow to link up and may need to be scanned for malware.
- Aaron (9/5): Beautiful room with stand alone bathroom for added luxury... - Huge room, no corners cut with the decor and facilities. Very good value for money. Pub below is beautiful and we didn't eat there but looked like very nice food. Very close to southerndown and surrounding beaches. Bathroom is beautiful. The windows aren't 100% sound proof and can hear the road but it isn't too busy so it's all good. I am trying hard to think of something negative. The pub could get loud too I'm sure but it wasn't when we stayed.
Owner forgot to send pin for entry before arrival but was my fault for not entering an arrival time, but she was very apologetic and got a free drink at the pub below.
- Mathew (5/5): Nice place. Would I stay again for the price? Probably not. - The room itself was very nice.
Bed was really comfortable. Hmm, difficult one this, some of the problems aren't 100% the hideaways fault, but for an overall experience....
Didn't get off to a great start.
We were attending a wedding and there was a possibility of getting back after hours, so needed to find out how we'd get access to our room. Staff showed us and gave us the code which was all good.
But, when we asked.... if we had any issues or problems getting in the room or a problem in general, is there anyone we can call? The only answer: "all our staff are out for a staff party tonight, so if there is a problem. There won't be anyone to help, as no one will be in any fit state to help you" (exact words)....OK, so if we can't get in or there is an issue, then we're on our own and sleeping in the car? Great.
The room was boiling, so no option but to open the windows to get some fresh air flow. Until we were woken up at 3am by people using the pub benches to smoke weed which filled our room with the smell of smoke and they sat there talking, smoking and just being generally loud right outside our room none stop for nearly 3hrs. Not really a fault of the hideaway, but we literally had no sleep between 3am & 6am, made slightly worse by the 5am delivery truck to the pub downstairs.
Milk in the fridge was sour and way passed its date.
Packet of Italian olives next to the teas and coffee was a nice touch, but out of date since June.
Advertised on booking.com as bed & breakfast. But found out there is no breakfast available. So £135 just for the room with no breakfast is a little steep in my opinion.
Considering how warm the room is, so needing the windows open, coupled with a busy road outside doesnt provide the quietest of rooms and good night sleep. Even without the people outside smoking weed and talking rubbish for hours.
- Nicky (10/5): Simply fabulous! - Very well presented, stunning room, very friendly staff
- Farr (10/5): Exceptional - The room was perfect... the food was absolutely incredible Nothing
- Amir (5/5): Passable -
- Gemma (10/5): Lovely hidden place - I loved the bath tub and shower. The bed was super comfy and pillows where nice and fluffy Nothing.
- Davies (10/5): The perfect couples get away - The hide away has to be my favourite stay so far and will defiently be back. There is absolutely nothing we didn't like but bubble bath would have been a bonus for the bedroom tub
- Natasha (9/5): Excellent room, comfortable and well equipped, we will be back - Beautifully decorated, well equipped, good check out time. Staff very friendly. We had a fabulous stay but if we had to give some minor improvement feedback then we would say that the wifi could be better and it would be good to have somewhere local to grab some breakfast, appreciate this is outside of the hosts control
- Raymond (10/5): Good place for a quiet rest - They need to research local cafes to cover the fact that they don't do breakfast. We found a good place in Ogmore by Sea. run by Huw Williams.
- Woody (8/5): Very good -
- James (10/5): Wish it could have been longer - Beautifully finished. Lots of character
- Nathan (9/5): Superb -
- Robyn (9/5): Superb -
- Franziska (7/5): Good - The room is beautifully done, bed very comfy and everything very clean. Staff is very friendly albeit always busy. Stayed on a hot summer day. Due to room being a loft room, it had 30 degrees inside during the day. There is a cooling fan in one of the cupboards which i wasn't made aware of during check in even though i mentioned the heat and only discovered the fan at the morning of check out. No air con.
Pub below is very lively and it is so noisy in the room that you feel like you stand right in the middle of the bar. Luckily it closes at midnight at the latest.
No privacy since windows point directly onto the terrace outside the pub and you could easily join each conversation. Opening the windows for some fresh air is therefore also not an option as long as the pub is open.
- Charlotte (9/5): Beautiful, spacious room and great pub serving lovely food and drink. - Huge room, lovely decor and very comfortable bed. Staff really helpful. Shower didnāt drain particularly well.
- Darren (10/5): Excellent accommodation - Very clean and romantic accommodation Nothing!!!!!
- Angela (7/5): Nice food. Lovely room. - No breakfast supplied. Room was lovely. No breakfast. Not even a continental. Noisy outside.
- Denise (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kieren (10/5): perfect stay and stunning room - just stunning and clean
- Sarah (9/5): lovely - absolutely beautiful room! only one minor fault, to use the tv you need to use the internet WiFi password wouldnāt work to connect to tv, had to put hotspots on my phone for it to work
- Lauren (10/5): Lovely location we loved our stay canāt wait to come back again - The room was absolutely beautiful and the restaurant was lovely too! Good vibes!
