Guest Reviews
- Christine (10/5): -
- Peter (10/5): Highly recommended for comfort and convenience! - Lovely clean well equipped accommodation! Very helpful communications on all aspects. Nothing
- kay (9/5): Fabulous stay at Vine Cottage - The location close to central Hexham with its lovely cafes, pubs and restaurants. Spotlessly clean. Quiet. Parking under.property or locally for larger cars. Nothing to dislike.
- Natalie (9/5): Comfortable and stylish, cosy cottage. - We had a lovely stay at Vine Cottage—cosy, warm and beautifully decorated, with a very comfortable bed and great shower and toiletries. The utility room was a bonus. We went in and out the garage carefully and managed well. We wanted somewhere with a parking.
The location is excellent, with shops (Waitrose), restaurants and the bus station just a very short walk away. We used day passes on the AD122 bus to hop on and off and explore Hadrian’s Wall. Would recommend Housesteads and Vindolanda Forts.
After long days out, it was so nice to return to such a relaxing, welcoming space. Hexham is a charming town, and we wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again. Communication with the owner was excellent, with appreciated flexibility on departure.
- Chris (10/5): Look forward to our next visit. - Great position and very cosy. Nice big tv and superb electric recliner sofa and our Peugeot 2008 fit in the garage with room to spare. Nothing once we had read the information book and mastered the heating controller on the living room wall.
- Erika (10/5): - Tolle Lage, super freundliche Vermieterin, sehr bequemes Bett
- Mandy (10/5): Hassle free , there was everything & more in the cottage ,, a really warm feel - Comfort ,, Dry cosy cottage
Fantastic location Nothing
- STEVE (9/5): Long weekend in Hexham - Great location with several restaurants and pubs just a short walk away (including Danielle's straight across the road). Nothing really
- Kevin (10/5): One of our best stays during our UK holiday. Imaculate inside and nicely located close to tourist attractions. - Very clean and provisioned with everything we needed for our stay. Loved the welcome snacks and the location. Nothing
- ROBERT (8/5): -
- Noel (10/5): - Well laid out with everything we needed. Excellent location with easy access to the centre of Hexham. Some nice treats on arrival. No hesitation in recommending Vine Cottage. Nothing to dislike.
- Simon (9/5): - NA
- Alison (7/5): Mostly good comfortable & a well kept clean place apart from the above regarding bathroom - Location was excellent
It was quiet & relaxing
Plenty of room & decor was good The bathroom was cold as the heated towel rail didn’t work also the fan didn’t work & the shower leaked onto the floor around the toilet & because of no heating took a long time to dry up before using the shower again
- carole (7/5): Perfectly adequate for a short stay. - Modern, freshly decorated and spotlessly clean.Well equipped.Excellent location for town centre. Garage ( although very tight for anything bigger than a mid sized car).Accommodating owners with regard to arrival/ departure times. Lack of dishwasher. Uninspiring "Welcome pack" ( small bag of crisps and small bottle of water didn't!) Unpleasant musty smell ( from the garage below the property? ) that clung to clothing so everything had to be washed on our return.
Lack of bedside tables and lamps.( Too cramped to fit in!)
- David (10/5): Perfect - It was very clean and comfortable, the kitchen had everything I needed for my stay. Nice bathroom with a good shower.
Good heating which was much appreciated during the cold weather.
The location was perfect for access to the town and all facilities. A very minor point, a bedside light would have been appreciated.
- Helen (9/5): Perfect location for our needs; comfortable, with everything we needed for our stay. - The property was ideally located for our needs; right in the middle of Hexham, easy to walk to abbey and attractions, shops, supermarkets, take-aways, and bus station. It was clean and comfortable. We were nervous about the instructions to get in the property, but all was fine and there was plenty of information about how to use various things, so we were able to be self-sufficient in terms of information.
I liked the cleaning products left, washing up liquid, and cloths etc. I brought my own, but this was a decent add-on by the owners.
The garage for our car was essential, parking in Hexham looked problematic and expensive (long stay), so being able to park the car securely and leave it was great (we then walked everywhere or used public transport). We have a small car though and anyone with a larger car may struggle (the description of the property states this).
The wifi and smart TV were fabulous, fast and easy to use.
Communication with owner was just right, sufficient, polite, and non-intrusive.
Hexham is a lovely, pretty, friendly town, which feels safe. None of this is a complaint and, to be honest, this is not a fair answer on my part because we knew about all of this before booking but we were looking for places based on location, parking, presence of washing maching and bath / shower. We couldn't find all those things in any one property, so settled on Vine Cottage knowing there was no bath BUT in hindsight we really missed not having a bath as well as a shower because we were doing a lot of walking along Hadrian's Wall and needed a soak at the end of tiring days just to relax our muscles.
There was a washing machine but drying clothes was a bit of an issue (in October) - a washing line in the 'garden' area would have been useful, or even a tumble dryer. Instructions for the washing machine would have been useful as the programmes were not intuitive and we had to download a manual (admitedly easy found and at no cost). We needed a washing machine because we were walking Hadrian's Wall in October and we had (slightly) muddy clothes to wash.
There was no side / reading lamp in the bedroom - we go to bed at different times and I like to read in bed whilst spouse watches TV, and the lights were quite bright in bedroom. Not a complaint, just would've liked a small side light in the bedroom.
Also, I like to leave places clean and tidy and couldn't find a vacuum cleaner to do a last tidy-up. I daresay most people won't complain about this and this is, again, NOT a complaint but just me liking to leave things nice for others!
- Gill (10/5): Excellent hosts and property. Would deffo recommend - It was perfect We loved everything
- jean (8/5): - lovely location cottage was a bit damp.
- Jacqueline (10/5): - Beautiful little cottage in a great location. Attention to detail was exceptional. Very clean & comfortable. Bedroom abit on the small side but then it's a cottage.
- Bonnie (10/5): This is one of the best!! - Probably one of the sweetest, coziest flats in which we have ever stayed! I really cannot praise it enough. I absolutely recommend this adorable cottage. Everything was fabulous. You must be mobile; you have stairs outside and steps inside.
- Alan (9/5): -
- Margaret (10/5): Great weekend stay. Beautiful home and excellent location - Everything Nothing
- Michael (9/5): Owners have done everything possible to make the cottage beautiful - Lovely cosy cottage , everything is of the highest standard.
Bed amazing, nice welcome gift
Great location for the town Busy road
Garage although really appreciated had a small entrance which combined with the road was challenging
- Alison (8/5): Well appointed clean and cosy home in a central location. - Easy access and clear information. Comfy bed and sofa. Plenty of hot water, towels and soaps. Delicious scones from local bakery. No bedside lights or tables.
Squeezing into the little garage.
- Karen (10/5): - Location for visiting Hexham and Hadrian's Wall was great. Cosy clean and welcoming feel to the cottage. Modern kitchen and bathroom. Garage for parking. Nothing. Would defiantly stay here again.
- Tony (10/5): -
- Ralph (8/5): - Excellent facilities with no items of equipment forgotten! Comfy bed. Great to have the garage space and glad our car was small enough to fit. Nice to be so close to the centre of Hexham with an easy walk either to the bus or train stations. Very tight for space in some rooms. Perhaps the garden could be improved over time.
- Denise (10/5): Great location for exploring the wider area - Although there is a garage under the cottage we didn’t use due to the fact it was on a fairly busy road and almost at the bottom of a hill so we would have held up traffic going up or down so decided to move car elsewhere this was the only downside.
- Stephen (9/5): Fantastic holiday home - We had a great stay at Vine Cottage in Hexham. It has everything you need for a relaxing stay and is beautifully furnished. The location right in the centre of Hexham is also a bonus Nothing
- John (10/5): Delightful and Convenient - My wife and I were very pleased with our five-night stay at Vine Cottage.
Since the word "cottage" figures in the name, we were not surprised to find that it is a cozy, freestanding dwelling on one floor. But we were delighted to find that it is exceptional in other respects.
One exceptional feature is that it is in the centre of Hexham (which is said to be the most important town between Newcastle and Carlisle). That means that it's just a short walk from the cottage to "just about" everything. (Despite being so central, the cottage is very peaceful at night, and there are several ways to find a convenient place to park.)
Another exceptional feature is that the cottage is very attractively decorated and furnished with quality products. In addition the cottage boasts a thoroughly contemporary bathroom and shower, and everything is in excellent condition. The WiFi worked well.
Other nice features include the excellent double windows, the effective light-blocking curtains and windowhades, and the excellent kitchen equipment. The cottage might not be well suited to very large people or to people with limited mobility. As access to the bathroom is through the bedroom, the cottage might not be comfortable for groups of three or more people.
- Anne (10/5): Excellent accommodation in central Hexham with a garage - The apartment was very clean well located and well appointed. No milk in the lovely welcome pack of scones etc.
- Louise (7/5): Unfortunately had to leave early as a family member unwell - Location Parking - difficult to get in and out of the garage. Fortunately we had a small car that fit in the garage
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Craig (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paula (9/5): Superb - The cottage is light, bright, and airy. Nicely decorated with good facilities. It's in a central location with great access to the town centre. I realise space is tight, but the lack of a bedside lamp in the bedroom was an issue for me.
Also, the cottage would benefit from a small side table in the living room.
- Kevin (9/5): Superb -
- Richard (8/5): Very good -
- Graeme (9/5): Superb -
- Gerardene (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jocelyne (10/5): We had a lovely stress free stay - Very comfortable and nicely decorated with all amenities and well situated. Nothing
- Christopher (10/5): A beautiful house in a great location. - A delightful, well appointed and comfortable house on the edge of Hexham. Great for town and countryside. Private, secure parking was a bonus. We enjoyed the lovely hand and body wash and its great location. N/A
- Laura (10/5): Exceptional - Friendly host who was quick to reply to messages. Lovely clean cottage. Right in the centre of Hexham with everything you need within walking distance yet is lovely and quiet. Also a great location to drive to nearby walks.
- George (10/5): Delightful and comfortable visit to an historic English town. - Very well maintained and comfortable cottage right in the centre of Hexham, with garage. A real gem and beautifully furnished. Very easy to arrange access and leaving. Considerate host who seemed to think of everything to make the visit delightful. Location was just minutes away by foot to the amazing Hexham Abbey and the market square. Ha, a bit tricky getting the car in the garage at a busy time when traffic on the road, but just needed a bit of patience to wait until the road was clear. Not a real issue!
- Alistair (10/5): I think Vine Cottage should be renamed Devine Cottage, every single thing was fantastic. - The whole experience was exceptional
- Gary (9/5): Superb -
- Shaun (8/5): Great small property great location - Overall appearance of the property
The facilities were very good overall Scent dispensers were a bit over-powering
- Benjamin (10/5): Best cottage in Hexham - We had amazing 3 night stay. The best place we have stayed in Hexham. Central location, within walking distance to shops, bars and restaurants but doesn't take long to jump in the car and get out to the countryside.
The cottage is of a very high standard and has everything you need for a relaxing holiday.
We will definitely be back and have already recommended to friends and family.
- Maureen (10/5): Perfect bolt hole in fab location! - Fabulous central location but quiet and peaceful. Immaculate with everything you need! Lovely touches, beautiful welcoming basket with bread, butter, jams, delicious cakes and milk in the fridge. Perfect bedding for a great nights sleep! Lovely restaurants nearby and unique shops. Top restaurant for us was The Beaumont! We would recommend staying at this property. Nothing
- Jim (10/5): Exceptional - Everything Nothing
- Seablueinifinity (8/5): A very nice play to stay. - Location, some Vegan goodies upon arrival was a lovely touch. The front door could do with some WD40 and a double bed is just too small for two adults. Would benefit from ditching the bedside table and putting a queen size bed in there.
- Pamela (10/5): Excellent cottage for long or short stay in the lovely town of Hexham - We had a great stay in Vine cottage. Check in was very easy . The garage was perfect for our mini clubman . The lovey welcome pack of delicious buns and bread was perfect . The cottage has everything you would need for short or long stay . Sally and Tim kept in touch but we didn’t have any difficulties for them to sort out . The cottage is beautifully presented and I particularly loved the White Co. Soap. N/A
- Aaron (10/5): Highly recommended! - Perfectly located for Hexham centre yet lovely and quiet within. The cottage was beautifully arranged and had everything needed for a comfortable stay. We felt very well looked after. Everything was excellent.
- Melissa (10/5): 3 in nights in Hexham - Loved everything! Great location. Clean, spacious for 2 people.
Excellent amenities.
Stayed 3 nights and were able to prepare out meals without a hitch. Hosts have made sure good quality essentials are there.
Loved the shower. Comfy beds.
Great location in quaint little town.
Parking!!
It was like a home away from home. Loved it Loved it Loved it!
- Brian (9/5): Nice clean and modern comfortable cottage in a central location. - Central location convenient for shops, restaurants, parks.
Close to bus and train station. The hosts were in contact to ensure we enjoyed our stay and help out if required.
- Isabel (9/5): Lovely property - The accommodation was very comfortable and well equipped. Excellent shower. The location was good for accessing the town. The parking was awkward as it was difficult to get the car into the supplied garage since it opened directly onto a busy road.
- Stephen (9/5): Great - Excellent location
- Janet (10/5): A lovely, comfortable stay which felt like home from home in a great location. - The property was very comfortable and finished to a high stabdard and was very well equipped.
- Debra (9/5): Superb -
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional - A great place to stay would definitely recommend to family and friends
- Jon (10/5): Very comfortable stay at Vine great hosts great cottage great area - Very clean, spacious modern apartment / cottage every known household appliance is there even a garage underneath the property Think the batteries have gone in the sensor light outside it’s a bit dark late at night returning after going out but that is all
- S (9/5): Lovely cottage right in the centre of things with easy access to all amenities - Quality of furnishings and equipment, great location, general comfort and warmth. It was a bit of a wrestling match with the (to be replaced) garage doors as I could not reach the bolt, and negotiating across the busy road to enter and leave the garage was slightly scary! On another occasion I would travel by train as the car was not really needed in the end. Steps up to the front door might present a challenge for those with moblility issues.
- Gillian (9/5): Hexham cottage - Beautifully decorated. Lovely facilities within and very generous welcoming gifts Maybe bigger towels
- Matthew (10/5): So close to everything and very quiet…. - Nearly everything Nothing
- Patrick (10/5): Its a great place to stay ! -
- Patricia (10/5): Excellent location in a beautiful, very clean cottage - Breakfast wasn't provided but there was cake, biscuits and milk on arrival A few more basic kitchen gadgets, eg a potatoe peeler and masher. Not everyone eats out every night, and as I have some allergies we prefer self catering and hence prepare our own meals.
- Stephen (10/5): Vine Cottage is an outstanding place to stay. It provided all I needed to a very high standard. -
- Jason (10/5): Vine Cottage review - Fantastic location, excellent facilities, very clean and comfortable. The perfect size for two people. Loved the extras like tea and coffee facilities and the biscuits and cakes on arrival. We will definitely be back. The parking was a little bit annoying on occasion but that wasn't the fault of the owners and more Hexham in general. It didn't cause any major problems at all and we were able to work around it.
- Jonathan (9/5): Superb -
- Carol (10/5): A place to come back to - So welcoming and comfortable, really added to what was already a great trip There was nothing we didn’t like
- Joan (10/5): It was so relaxing to come back to the cottage each night after sightseeing and be in a cozy, warm and enjoyable space. - It is very comfortable with all the accessories you need for your stay. The location is exceptional! You can walk to everything in Hexham.
The train and bus stations are a short walk. On my next visit, to the north east, I wouldn’t stay anywhere else. Nothing.
- Guy (9/5): Superb -
- Andy146 (10/5): Gorgeous litte cottage - The cottage is absolutely brilliant everything you need and right in the centre of hexham.
- Ellen (10/5): Perfect cottage for a couple - Vine Cottage is easily one of the best places we’ve stayed in! We are so pleased we found it. Lots of thoughtful, welcoming and unexpected touches such as homemade cake, fresh flowers, local biscuits and milk in the fridge were really appreciated. Special mention for the incredibly comfortable bed (with really high quality bedding) and powerful shower with The White Company products. We wish we had been able to stay longer! N/A everything was excellent
- Stuart (9/5): Excellent location for Hexham city centre , very clean, comfortable and homely - Plenty of cafes nearby
- Mark (10/5): A few days away in Hexham - The cottage was perfect. Quality decor, new applances. Bang in the centre of Hexham so perfect for getting around. Welcome gifts were a lovely touch. Would stay again
- Des (9/5): Heavenly Hexham! - The cottage was beautifully appointed, clean and perfectly located just a short walk from Hexham's historic market place, shops, restaurants and places of cultural interest. Despite being adjacent to a busy main road, the cottage felt surprisingly quiet and tranquil. Its small and compact interior was perfect for a single occupant as in my case! Nothing.
- Mary (10/5): Exceptional - Some lovely extra touches.
- Lisa (10/5): Excellent - Vine Cottage was a lovely place to stay: spotlessly clean; well-appointed, from new appliances to essential items and little extras such as games and books; prettily furnished; and in a central location for exploring Hexham on foot. (I did not have a car, but restaurants, shops, train station and sites were in easy walking distance.) When I arrived, I found cake, fresh flowers and note from the owners to welcome me. I wish every holiday rental were like this!
- Van (10/5): Sanctuary in the midst of Hexham - Location great, it was a little house which was ideal for us. Hosts very solicitous and thoughtful.
- Helen (10/5): Exceptional - Fantastic location. Lovely welcome package. Beautiful area for walking. Cottage so fresh and clean. Shower has great water pressure. Hairdryer nice touch. Overall a great time in sunny Hexham! Nothing.

- Craig (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alison (10/5): Very snug cottage with excellent facilities. Good wi fi. Hosts added little touches to meke us feel - Very central, 10 minute walk up from station, 5 minutes from centre of Hexham. Handy for restaurants, shops and pubs. Also close to Abbey and castle. Nothing! All good.
