• Corey (9/5): Enjoyable Stay Along the Nile - I spent two nights at hooly nubian during a 12 day trip to Egypt, and really enjoyed the change of pace that Elephantine Island offered after the busyness of Cairo and being bombarded by person after person looking to squeeze some money out of me in Luxor. The facility is simple but clean and comfortable, and the setting along the Nile River is lovely. My second evening, I rented a kayak from hooly nubian to go out on the river around sunset, and that was one of the more peaceful moments I had during my time in Egypt. Would highly recommend that if the loud boat cruises aren't your thing. I had a room that opened onto a balcony of sorts overlooking the Nile, and that was a nice place to spend a little while after sunset in the cool of the evening. Ahmed responded quickly on Whatsapp and was helpful in arranging shared transportation to Abu Simbel, and the boat to take me back to the mainland on my departure day was on time. He also provided some other recommendations, which were appreciated. I thought hooly nubian was a pretty good value for the price and can recommend it for a stay of a few days. I wasn't sure how I would feel about needing to take a boat ride to get anywhere, but that ended up being only a pretty minor inconvenience and being in a beautiful and peaceful location was worth it.

• Davide Civelli (9/5): Relax e tranquillità sul Nilo - La posizione è perfetta per passare una piacevole e rilassante vacanza sull'isola Elefantina, sulla sponda opposta alla città, quidni più tranquilla e caratteristica Nulla in particolare, è comunque a circa 3-4 minuti a piedi dall'arrivo del traghetto e quindi richiede un minimo di mobilità per raggiungere la sponda cittadina
• David (9/5): Perfect spot to base yourself in Aswan with an amazing host - What a relaxing place to stay. Looking out over the Nile River it is calming. The manager is so helpful - sorting out tours and transfer for me. He was always transparent and made sure that the drivers, tour guides etc were where they needed to be. Communication was the best of egypt so far! These trips also included motorboat transfers to the mainland free of charge. The WiFi worked really well and it was so glorious that the single room was the one with a balcony. Given you’re on a dusty island the room was also a bit duty but the sheets and towels were clean.

• James (10/5): Peaceful Stay on Elephantine Island with Outstanding Local Support - Staying on Elephantine Island was such a special experience, and Ahmed played a huge part in making it memorable. He helped me organize tours to Abu Simbel and other sites for the best possible price, always making sure I was getting fair local rates. What really stood out was his dedication, he even woke up at 4am to make sure the boat came to pick me up on time. That level of care is rare. I highly recommend staying on this side of the island. It’s much quieter and has beautiful views toward the Aswan Botanical Garden. Watching the sunset from the balcony overlooking the Nile River was a truly memorable moment for me. The room itself is simple, so don’t expect luxury. The bed isn’t the most comfortable, but I honestly didn’t mind because the lovely private balcony and the common viewing area over the Nile more than made up for it. The atmosphere felt peaceful and authentic. Ahmed also arranged a taxi pickup that included a boat transfer bringing me directly in front of the hotel. That seamless arrival alone was worth the money. If you’re looking for a quiet, scenic stay with genuine local hospitality and someone who will go the extra mile for you, this is the place.

Elephantine island is a great spot to stay for exploring, no cars and very original way of living. We could easily walk to the Nubian village and archaeological site. Can only get there from Aswan via boat, but the boat was always waiting at the times we organised, or not far away when we went exploring Aswan and called one of the guys. Make sure you make time to go over the other side of the river to have dinner at Rashad’s and take a camel ride up the sand dunes for sunset- Amazing.

• Marta (10/5): Fantastico - Casa nubiana in un villaggio nubiano, lontano dal caos, sulla parte ovest (la migliore) dell'isola Elefantina. La mia camera aveva il terrazzino privato. A disposizione degli ospiti ci sono i kayak, con i quali ho oltrepassato il nilo insieme ad Ahmir. La vista sul nilo è spettacolare, anche solo facendo colazione la mattina. Ma soprattutto la gentilezza di Ahmir e di tutto lo staff e dei loro amici che puoi trovare li. Ho trascorso 3 giorni meravigliosi. Non c'è lusso e tutto è molto basico, ma è il bello di questo posto per entrare pienamente nell'atmosfera nubiana che è completamente diversa dall'egitto. La colazione di Ahmir è semplice ma molto buona. Potete arrivare li direttamente con la barca di proprietà Accanto c'è anche un ristornate molto buono e comodo.

• Ulrich (10/5): Bester Aufenthalt in Assuan - Traumhafte Lage. Frühstück auf der Terrasse mit Blick auf den Nil, das Mausoleum und den botanischen Garten. Es ist wunderbar ruhig, man schläft großartig. Der Gastgeber Ahmed ist eine Unterstützung in jeder Lebenslage: er hat uns mit dem Boot abgeholt, uns eine Fahrt in ein nubisches Dorf organisiert und uns sogar geholfen als unser nächster Transfer ausgefallen ist. Zum Service gehört auch eine gratis Fahrt mit der Felukke im Sonnenuntergang. Man kann nicht besser treffen in Assuan. Nichts. Alles perfekt.

• Laïlla (10/5): A magical and unique experience on the Nile river - Absolutely everything. The stay was properly magical. The room is big and clean with private bathroom. The terrasse is very charming and on the Nile river, with in the desert view on the other side and a few minutes by boat to the botanic garden. Ahmed is the kindest host I’ve had. He helped me a lot with my visits in Aswan but also with the organisation of my trips to Luxor and Abu Simbel. He is very well connected with the Aswan community and I could organize my visits directly with him which made it so easy to enjoy the time in Aswan. A big plus, at the hostel, there are canoe available from the terrasse to enjoy solo trips in the Nile. Very cool.
• Martin (3/5): Basic accommodation but not a basic-level price. - This place is in an amazing location right on the west bank of Elephantine Island with a fantastic view over the Nile. The owner is friendly and helpful. With a little TLC, this could be a very nice place to stay. First impressions are everything. We requested a transfer from the airport and we were met by a driver with one of the worst condition cars I've ever seen (and trust me I've been around). This really freaked my wife out and we had a very tense journey into Aswan. Then there was a lot of confusion regarding the boat transfer, but eventually a teenager arrived in a boat without lights, and we sailed in the darkness to the guesthouse crashing into a boat full of tourists on the way. The guesthouse itself was basic - no proper sheets on the bed, doors that didn't close properly, etc. The wifi didn't work at all. My wife being more sensitive than me demanded that we leave, but as it was late, we decided to stay for the first night. We left the next morning and luckily found a far superior place for exactly the same price.

This place is peaceful and picturesque. Unfortunately, I came alone, which felt a bit lonely—having a travel companion would have made it truly wonderful.😁
• Federico (8/5): Very good - The position is ideal for us, on the quiet side of the island, right in front of the river. The owner was very helpful and gave us indications on how to reach Abu Simbel and Luxor by public transport and giving us an idea of what the prices were. He also organized the transport by boat for us early in the morning. Our room was basic but clean and had a nice view to the Nile. The breakfast was good as well. Perfect for short stays like ours. Very good value for money overall. It was a bit confusing to find the place upon arrival, also due to the labyrinthic layout of the roads. The surroundings are rather run down (like all the island really).

• Gregory (10/5): Very nice stay in the Elephantine island in Aswan - Super friendly manager Ahmed, already ready to help, to provide us with infomation and solutions. He helped us to arrange the trip to Abu simbel , Philae temple, and taxi drivers. We arrived very late after midnight but the check in was very smooth. The house is very cute right in front of the river with beautiful views. The little Restaurant “ Nile View “ next to the house is also very pleasant. We are not very used to the shower and toilet combined setting;)

• Károly (5/5): Quiet place next to the Nile with a kind host. - Great location overlooking the Nile with a fantastic view from the terrace. It is at a quiet area, and the host was very kind to take us to the shore by motor boat. The place is spacious. The wifi did not work, the place was not cleaned well. We found a scorpion in the room. It was difficult to find, the pictures are leading to a neighboring house.

• Daniel (7/5): Excellent value and lovely view from the upstairs terrace. - We had the two bedrooms with air conditioning, so that was a definite positive! View on upstairs terrace was lovely. Beds comfy. Clean linen. Host organised an airport taxi pickup, and the accommodation also included a return water taxi, which we weren’t aware of. The taxi took us straight to the water taxi jetty, with minimal waiting time. King Jamaica restaurant (12 minute walk) was fantastic and excellent value (the restaurant nearby was more expensive and nowhere near as nice). Kitchen plates and glasses were clean. Shower was okay. Washing machine and clothes airer a bonus (washing was dry in 30 minutes!). Host very communicative, with prompt responses and recommendations. No windows, and no air conditioning in the lounge, made it feel very enclosed and stuffy. Towels were very small. Island sand-dust on the floor, but that’s to be expected.

He took the money from us in cash saying he didn't have a bank account and then told booking.com that I never checked in. The bathroom drainage was clogged with hair. We had to clean all of it ourselves. Except one room, none of the rooms had windows. It was suffocating.

The sunset on the rooftop is a moment we will never forget. The house is large and confortable and on top of everything Ahmed was so helpful during our stay. Always here for any questions or service. • Jon (10/5): Amazing rooftop view of Nile with an amazing helpful staff - Amazing rooftop terrace with a beautiful view of the Nile (especially at sunset). The entire staff including the owner, manager, and driver are super helpful not just with your stay but also making sure you get where you need to go after. Room is comfortable. Hotel is on quiet side of the island in the nature. They genuinely want to help you and made sure I got in the right bus on yeh way to my next destination (even offered to hold the room for me if the microbus didn’t work out). I’ll recommend this place to anyone staying in Aswan None

• Ammar (9/5): Superb - The owner of this property was extremely helpful and went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. The room was very spacious and clean. The property is located on an island and is reached through a motorboat. Then, it requires climbing steep stone stairs. Hence, it is not preferable for the elderly or people who have trouble walking or climbing.
• Loo (10/5): Exceptional - Armed was a good host, he helped us a lot during our stays, He arranged our tours and got us a nice guide during our tour to Nubien village, Unfinished Obelisk, high dam and Philae Temple. Thank you armed for your great hospitality .
• Hara (6/5): Goop option for a night - The staff was very friendly, easy to reach when we needed something and always happy to help! Also the guy who was driving the boat was always on time and had a kind smile on his face. The view from the rooftop was great and I liked the location of the house as well (it was located on a little island, so you had to take the boat to visit different places). When we arrived there was a strike, so there was no water in the house, but that was resolved in a couple hours. Also, the bathroom was a bit dirty.

• Evgeniy (10/5): Exceptional - The quiet back part of the island. Wonderful view across the river. We also lived on the outside of the Elephantine, where the ferry docks, it is also good there, but in a different way, more saturated or something. Here you walk through the quiet ancient narrow streets and find yourself in silence over the calm waters of the Nile. The owner of the house is wonderful and responsive. Booking without the need to pay by card, and this is very convenient for us, since there is no visa and mastercard in Russia. We contacted by phone, then all communication is via WhatsApp. you will be opened, additional items will be brought if necessary. Breakfast can be ordered directly on the balcony for the same 100 pounds per person. Beautiful terrace! The hotel is new and slightly uninhabited. It is worth adding hooks for clothes, tables, dishes and at least a bookcase for clothes. The bathroom door would be better if it were a regular one that closes tightly on hinges, rather than a slide. But these are all small things.
• Mohammed (1/5): Horrible location, no good food options - The location was impractical since travelling to and fro from the island is charged 10 times the government rate by the hotel which we were informed after using it on the second day. This location has a handful of restaurants with a very limited menu and are highly priced. Firstly we already informed them that 2 adults and one child will be staying with us and asked the guesthouse if it was okay. Thay had already agreed to this that there will be no charges. Later they put a comment on customer service that we refused to pay the additional charges. The breakfast, for which he charged 100 EGP per person, were three small loaves of bread with one boiled egg and a small banana. They also failed to inform us of any charges before getting on the boat and never conveyed the cost to us until checkout. The amount told to us was also very exorbitant, 10 times more than what normal public transport costs. Which is why we refused to pay. First he demanded 700 egyptain pounds, then he reduced it to 300, then when we asked him why he didn't inform us about these charges before, he said it was okay if we didn't pay. Hence, when we checked out, all our dues were cleared. He was okay when we paid in cash and he did not have a credit card machine. No assistance was provided during checkout and we had to carry all our luggage two storeys up from the boat ourselves.
