Guest Reviews
- Justin (10/5): -
- Mark (9/5): A comfortable home in a good location. - Location & proximity to family who live just 100metres from Captains Quarters.
House was well equipped.
- Saskia (9/5): - Great little house, in a great location, easy walk to shops and restaurants. We stayed with 3 couples and had plenty of room. It was lovely and clean, beds were comfortable. Loved the pod machine. š . The front and back door were directly opposite each other so you got a lovely flow of fresh air through the house. It would have been great if we could open the kitchen windows as it got a bit warm in there while cooking. That wouldn't stop me from staying here again though.
- Georginan (9/5): Comfortable, stylish home in convenient location - An easy walk to the shops, restaurants and waterfront. We enjoyed dinner the Hay Street Bar and Kitchen which was a 3 minute walk and highly recommended. The bridge to Hindmarsh Is is close by and worth the drive to see the mouth of the Murray. Goolwa Beach is wild and expansive... definitely worth a visit. Dog friendly. There is a well stocked secondhand bookshop over the road!! The house itself was very comfortable with everything you need. Two bedrooms are up quite steep stairs and no bathroom but lovely master bedroom with ensuite downstairs. Spa bath in second, main bathroom. Lovely kitchen, well equipped. No outdoor area to speak of but the handy location compensates. A little bit of traffic noise but the house is quite well sound insulated. Keep food sealed as ants are about. The remote for the garage roller door can be easy to activate unintentionally (might be me). So watch your dog/children. The kitchen would benefit from an extra, larger breadboard and a lounge chair in the living room would be good. The sofa configuration is a bit cramped. These are only minor quibbles... everything in the house is very well thought out, considering guests absolute comfort. We had a lovely stay, thank you.
- Dianna (9/5): I would stay again when I am in the local area - Location and the fit out There was an ant problem and pressure on the shower in bathroom off dining room. Keys to open various doors and windows were tricky
- Brown (7/5): Its a comfortable house but we wouldn't stay here again. - What breakfast? There wasn't one and there was no milk in the fridge either. On arrival there was no hot water as no one had checked the gas supply was turned on to the water heater. The owner responded quickly to this and it was fixed, thankyou.
The shower head in ensuite does not stay up. This was reported a year ago but still not fixed. When operating at maximum height, the shower head sends water all over the bathroom floor.
Controller to living room tv not working as no one had checked the batteries which had expired. We then had to go buy batteries to get it working.
If you want fresh air in the bedroom when sleeping, good luck! All windows are key locked and they don't provide a key.
Back flyscreen door is triple locking but again, there's no key. The single latch mechanism here is temperamental and doesn't always lock. We were reluctant to trust this by leaving it open for fresh air at night.
- Marilyn (10/5): We enjoyed our stay very much! Thank you! -
- Kylie (10/5): -
- Denise (10/5): Perfect - Great location. No broom or mop

- Kelly (9/5): Fabulous couple of days on the Murray in a great little cottage perfect for the four of us. - Location and size of the home was perfect, we had games and smart tv's as well. Such a very small detail, the kitchen bin could be larger :)
- Auke (9/5): -
- Alasdair (10/5): - Great location, very clean, very well appointed, hosts very easy to deal with.
- Rui (9/5): -
- Nicky (9/5): - Comfortable beds
Extra touches eg diffuser for hairdryer Would have liked a
- Stephens (8/5): Very good - All, really Some of the TV channels were glitchy, spa.jets in bath caused water to spray all over the bathroom then didn't work at all
- Tim (8/5): Very good -
- Alan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bradley (10/5): Loved it - Heritage building, location, space, amenities. We couldn't stay longer :(
- Denise (10/5): Perfect accommodation - Very clean There is nothing can complain about.
- P (9/5): Superb -
- Tobin (9/5): Clean, comfortable accommodation in a good location with plenty of space. Great for families. - Very much appreciated the bottle of wine on arrival, thank you! It was very nice wine too! The Simpsons themed video game console was great as well, it kept the kids (and sometimes the adults) thoroughly entertained! All of the televisions were subject to interference when watching free to air, sometimes significantly so. This could have been due to the inclement weather conditions, but it might be worth checking the antenna and all the associated attachments. Also, some milk in the fridge on arrival might have been nice. This way you can have a tea or coffee on arrival without having to go to the shops first.
- Garth (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lisa (9/5): Superb -
- Christina (9/5): Great house for our first stay in this area, thanks for a lovely set up house to holiday in. - Captains Quarters was a lovely house to stay at. All the comforts of home and well equipped and clean. lovely added little touches which were appreciated. Loved the location was so suitable for our stay and having to garage the car was also a bonus. We could of stayed longer than would have been better!!
- Rui (9/5): Superb -
- Siobhan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Melissa (10/5): Exceptional - Location, and it was very well renovated. Loved all the air conditioning in the bedrooms. Our little dog also enjoyed the home (and she is the fussiest of all). Nothing. Maybe just a tightening needed in the master bathroom shower head as it kept falling down (owners may not be aware).
- Grant (9/5): We had a fabulous time away with the family. Such a great central location whether to the river, the town, the shops or - We loved how close it was to Goolwa town and the oval.
- Michael (10/5): Very comfortable lovely stay. This is our second visit and once again didnāt disappoint. Will be back again - Fantastic location and cottage well appointed
- Sok (9/5): Overall we enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back - Location was great. Place was great. The kids absolutely loved the arcade game. The board games were a nice touch too The overall house was pleasant and clean however the plates, cups and utensils were not the cleanest
- Gail (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely accommodation. Great location. Well appointed.
- Garry (10/5): Excellent place to stay in Goolwa - Location was very central and easy walking distance to the shops, wharf and Cockle Train. Immaculately presented property. The bottle of red wine was a nice surprise. Would love to return at stay for a lot longer.
- Julie (8/5): Convenient location, well equipped cottage. - Great house, good attention to detail. The wine & toiletries were an added bonus. Location was good except for being opposite the netball courts meant it was very noisy all day on Saturday. Windy weather hi lighted the windows were very rattly and draughty too. Floors were not super clean in the kitchen and under the beds/couches was dusty and there was an old sock under the couch and a corn chip under the bed! Probably just overdue for a good deep clean. For such a lovely comfortable house it was a shame there was no nice lighting in the lounge, a nice floor lamp would have been better than the overhead lights.
- Victoria (10/5): Great location, easy walk to the beach and the main street where you will find great coffee shops. - The process was great and well thought out. I received email messages from the owners prior to arrival explaining the process of getting in. That was easy and convenient, easy to do in the dark. The home is beautifully presented and the there are things that make the stay better such as a bottle of wine and some essentials that were truly appreciated such as oil, flour, salt and pepper etc. The packaging was recyclable/Ecco friendly, and we appreciate that. Spa bath was great, beds and really comfy and the place is well kept. Fantastic value for money, we will stay again. Our car wouldn't fit into the off-street parking space, this was not a big issue. Easy parking right out the front in the street.
- Scott (9/5): Superb -
- Sheryl (8/5): Very good - Close to everything that Goolwa has to offer, clean and tidy with off street parking
- Addy (8/5): Very good -
- Mary (7/5): Unhelpful host but good house which made work as best we could under the circumstances. - Comfortable, clean and good location. Strong sewer smell on entering. Couldnāt open windows to air the property. Not āopenableā according to host. Her suggestions were to leave the front and back doors open for ventilation. It was the middle of winter. Or cancel and go elsewhere. Not helpful late on a Saturday.
Entry code also incorrect. Host blamed Booking.com.
- Deb (10/5): Exceptional - Everything!! The cottage & facilities were fantastic, exceeding our expectations. So much care has been put into the property & we all wished we could have stayed longer. Thank you so much Sarah & Simon. š
- Sally (10/5): Luxurious accommodation in beautifullly restored cottage, close to Goolwa Main Street - Extraordinary cottage.
Fabulous house, beautiful furnishings,wonderful location.
Attention to detail and everything was so comfortable.Best sleep in the cushioned bed .
Thank you so much for the delicious wine . Leaving
- Battista (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pierre (9/5): Worth a revisit...little gem. - Great accommodation for up to two couples. If you get the upstairs room you need to come downstairs to use bathroom facilities. ... but not a big deal if you dont mind stairs. The other bedroom has on-suite. Large & well appointed kitchen dining area. Very comfortable living space
walking distance to shops and eateries. Frankly, a great little accommodation house. Generally very clean but the water tap in the laundry was a shock to us...think it is plumbed into rainwater tanks (?) but whatever the circumstances the water was really red/rusty; yuck! We had to drain the kettle....
- Suzelle (9/5): Superb -
- Jeff441 (10/5): Perfect - Fantastic property. Everything was so well presented. Can't fault a thing. And the location is great, walking distance to the main street. Nothing, loved it.
- Kerry (7/5): Cosy, comfortable and clean. A great location, family friendly and had all we needed! - Spacious rooms, nice facilities
- Funk (10/5): Lovely weekend - ample crockery and cutlery, styled nicely but not overdone. Pleasant accomodation keys .... need to be able to access front screen door with key...or take the lock away - we inadvertently locked ourselves out.
- Kate (8/5): Very good -
- Emma (10/5): Great place to stay - Great location, very clean, internet provided Nothing
- Patricia (8/5): Very good - The house is lovely and such a great location. Enjoyed cycling the Encounter Bike path to Victor.

- Jie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Brodie (8/5): Very good - Nice kitchen and bathrooms We couldn't find our bins and not much parking
- Elizabeth (9/5): Ideal for family gatherings - beautiful cottage - would like to learn the history of the home. - Close proximity to shops & river views - very comfortable stay - excellent facilities. A chair in the main bedroom was not provided, mirror was not provided in upper bedrooms, both bathrooms on ground level, toilet brush was missing in main bathroom area, outdoor furniture was under covers to be removed on arrival & replaced on departure, second vehicle was not in secure parking.
- Helen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lewington (10/5): Exceptional - Great location near main street with excellent restaurant Hay St Kitchen and Bar around the corner. House had everything we needed and spotlessly clean. We took our dog and he had a little garden to run in and very comfortable i side too. Nothing to not likeš
