Guest Reviews
- Stephen (8/5): I’ll be back as I’m back working again soon - Clean and quiet. Staff were very friendly. They allowed me to leave my car in the car park as I was working in town the following day. Ideal location
- Jeremy (8/5): Decent accommodation option in charming old town. - Easy to find and park. Nice old-fashioned property with a bit of character. Rooms comfortable. Keys to come and go as you please. Plenty of hot water. Plenty of electrical sockets. Wi-fi connection good. Young evening staff very friendly. Morning staff fine. Decent selection of pub grub for evening meal. Breakfast pretty varied and generous portions. Recommended. I would gladly stay here again. Maybe add plain yogurt to breakfast selection, please. Otherwise all good.
- Andrew (10/5): - Nice and clean. Accommodation very comfortable, food was great! Lovely stay for two nights. Nothing
- Andy (9/5): Had a great couple of nights with really good food and very friendly staff. - It’s a lovely old traditional pub with a nice cosy environment. Good convenient location with ample parking. Lovely friendly staff and very good food at breakfast and dinner. The road noise is unavoidable but it’s on a busy road and we didn’t let it affect our stay at all.
- Julian (6/5): a nice hotel which still requires some finishing touches to its refurbishment - This is a traditional english pub with the decor and ambiance associated with buildings from the era. The staff were fabulous, welcoming, smiley and positive. Our room was furnished and laid out beautifully, with all the facilities of a large hotel chain (ordinarily). Breakfast was spot on, with options of what would be considered a full english, cereals, yogurt and fruit. This is not extensive, yet more than enough to start the day. The toilet in our room would back up when flushed more than once, or if flushed when water was being drained from the bath, sink or shower. Timing became a consideration. This is a shame, as other than this there were no real issues to bother writing about..... other than the kettle in our room, which we were advised had broken the morning of our arrival. We were not offered a replacement. Given we were staying more than one night it was disappointing that this wasn't sorted out.
- Susan (8/5): Very enjoyable - It was an all round very enjoyable stay Nothing to complain about

- Jenny (8/5): Good enough to go back to. -
- angela (10/5): Enjoyable and relaxing - Charming quaint excellent food The tables & benches in beer where same level as our window

- Stuart (10/5): What a great venue, the staff were lovely and the room almost perfect. Food in the Gaskell was good quality and a very - The staff were exceptionally friendly, and nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were not only clean but the “room” we had was on 2 floors with a living room and a large bedroom. The Mews rooms were lovely to stay in. Only issue is the bathroom is a bit small, no shelves to place toiletries. And could do with somewhere in the bedroom to hang clothes.
- melanie (10/5): Just been refurbished to a high standard .. breakfast was included and that was exceptional - Great location short walk into the centre .. Helpful staff and excellent breakfast No one on site 24 hrs
- Nicky (10/5): I hadn’t had high hopes as we’d stayed in a different hotel in Wales the night before which was double the price. How wr - We stayed in the mews apartments, an unexpected upgrade. They were beautiful and I had one of the best sleeps in the comfiest bed. Nothing to dislike.

- Helen (9/5): Lovely, we'd like to come back and stay again but this time bringing our dog Penny along with us too - Friendly staff, great choice of bar drinks and excellent food both evening meal and breakfast. Lovely Beer garden. Our first room was superb - nice and spacious, lots of room with a huge bathroom, which we were very happy with. But when we tried to have a shower on the Friday morning the shower was just not working at all. So at breakfast we told the staff. So, we were moved from our room 10 to room 11. Which was ok just a lot smaller than our first room and the bathroom was extremely small. Hardly any room to move. But I suppose it was better than staying in a room where the shower wasn't working.

- colette (9/5): Very nice three day stay. - On arrival we were a little worried as scaffolding was being erected we were told it was to be painted we asked if it was possible to have another room and we were out in a mews suite which was excellent.
Breakfast was very good with good choice .
Staff nice and friendly.
Much Wenlock is a lovely place with lots to do.
- Phil (10/5): Really enjoyed my stay, and would stay there again. - Beautiful room, friendly, helpful staff.
- stephen (8/5): Nice place, clean throughout and great staff. Wifi signal very poor. - Everything was to the standard of a three star hotel with the exception of staff. They were 5 Star! Food very good also and I would certainly stay there again. The Wi Fi in the room was non existent most of the time which was extremely frustrating when staying for a long period of time.
- Reed (8/5): -
- Bowskill (10/5): -
- David (10/5): - Everything. It was , start to finish.
Friendly and helpful staff.
Great room where it was easy to exercise our dogs.
The food was excellent. Great full portions.
The bed was comfortable. The room warm . The shower, toilet and sink was clean. Nothing . I think the whole time away was thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing.
Thank you.
- DAVID MARTIN (8/5): Very comfortable and warm. - Would stay again. Staff were excellent. Nothing tl dislike
- Maggie (9/5): Staff excellent food excellent -
- susan (7/5): - Very good location. The service at dinner in the evenings was very slow and the dining areas were very cold - the log burner had not been kept lit. The twin room we had was a reasonable size with a sitting area but badly designed. The furniture was much too big and the room was unnecessarily cramped
- steven (9/5): - Brilliant breakfast and evening meal
- Sally (8/5): - Friendly staff
- Murgatroyd (8/5): Great location, fab staff and good value. I would stay again - Nicely decorated and very clean Exterior looks in need to TLC but staff told us they are doing this very soon

- Mike (8/5): -
- Brian (10/5): Perfect get away - Everything could fault anything N/A
- David (6/5): - Excellent evening meal. Comfortable and clean room and staff very friendly and helpful. Shower lukewarm. Cooked breakfast a bit disappointing.
- Patricia (9/5): We had a very enjoyable stay. - Dinner was excellent. The room was tiny.
- Marie (9/5): Good location and fabulous comfy beds - Good location
Fabulous cooked breakfast
Extremely comfy bed with amazing duvet and pillows and friendly and helpful staff Had to change room as toilet seat was broken
Bin in new room hadn't been emptied
My friend didn't have any tea/coffee in her room
- mark (9/5): - Lovely staff ,good food, clean room.At the top of the high street. The hotel was situated on a noisy junction.
- James (8/5): -
- Jennifer (9/5): - V friendly and helpful
- Dawne (8/5): We had a great stay, staff were efficient and friendly. - Car park easy to locate and use. Our room was quiet despite near the road. Our room was spacious and clean, the bed was very comfortable. Suggest mugs for got drinks in room, with coasters or saucers.
- Bronwen (8/5): Very comfortable - Helpful staff, food availability all day, excellent
- Josh (8/5): -
- Roy (8/5): - Room was good.
Food was good and good value.
Good base for visiting other places, Much Wenlock is a nice little town with friendly people.
The Gaskell Arms is in a good position. Everything was fine.
- Russell (9/5): We really enjoyed our stay and wouldn't hesitate to stay again. - The room was large and tastefully furnished. Excellent food, steak dinner and full english breakfast. Almost too much furniture in the lounge area. The armchair would have been more useful in the bedroom. Lack of lighting in the bathroom, the light over the shower wasn't working. A shelf for toiletries would be helpful.
- Stephen (10/5): Clean room with large bathroom, private close parking, welcoming and helpful staff, great breakfast - I gave it full marks as it ticked all the boxes we wanted from a nights accommodation. It's not 5 star, but I didn't pay 5 star. The staff were extremely helpful and welcoming, it was in a perfect for location for our weekend. The price was very good. The shower was excellent. For us the breakfast was perfect. We parked right outside in their private carpark. For the price we paid nothing.
- Jason (10/5): - Staff and room were excellent 🙂 N/A
- andrew (10/5): Great stay in an old coaching inn. - Fabulous old inn that has been modernised tastefully. Lovely staff and food. Very comfortable room.
- Ruby (10/5): - Lovely cosy atmosphere. The staff couldn't do enough to help, everyone was so lovely
- Lynne (4/5): ok - Good breakfast, good value No sleep because of heavy lorries all night
- Russell (9/5): -
- jonathan (10/5): Really enjoyable and will book a longer stay in the future. - Rooms had been recently updated and the suite we stayed in had a really nice lounge area with Chesterfields. The evening meal and breakfast were both enjoyed and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. Also a great location - really nice historical town with Shropshire Hills and Ironbridge on your doorstep. The room was hot but we opened the upstairs window and let the heat out. Fans are provided in the rooms as well.
- Richard (9/5): Enjoyable friendly well serviced rooms good hospitality - Pleasant friendly staff good value evening meals
Comfy clean rooms
all staff were friendly and helpful Good sized free carpark Pleasant walks in the vicinity for all ages lovely little town
I put a 9 as i would call exceptional somewhere where that has five stars like a big London hotel where the mega rich go all was fine will go again
- Joan (9/5): This is a little gem , great accommodation, food and lovely staff. - Great location in a very interesting historical village. Plenty to see and within travelling distance of other places such as Ludlow. We found the heating difficult to control.
- Monstermashy (9/5): Lovely old pub with amazing food and friendly staff - Room was really good, it was large with a great lounge area and bathroom downstairs and the bedroom upstairs. Great heating, very hot water and generally very clean. Dog friendly too! The pub does fantastic food and everything seemed to be home cooked so very impressed. Breakfast was fantastic, I had eggs Benedict 👍 Floorboards upstairs were a bit creaky and the bathroom is in need of a makeover but that wasn't a major issue.
- Blesie (10/5): -
- Beverley (9/5): Lovely old listed building with lots of original features - Lovely suite. Accessed directly from car park. Very cosy & clean. Friendly staff. Road noise from traffic but to be expected as it is a listed building with restrictions regarding windows etc.
- Joan (9/5): Worth every penny of a good bed and breakfast stay. - It was near to where we were wanted to be. It was clean, staff were friendly and the beds and pillows were very comfortable. The food was nice and they do a great breakfast.
- Phil (10/5): Excellent. Woukd stay again for sure. - Great location and 10/10 staff!
- Georgina (9/5): A welcoming, comfortable and traditional pub/hotel - Lovely traditional pub/hotel
Clean and comfortable, bedrooms well equipped and plenty of storage
Friendly and welcoming staff Loved it all
- Terence (9/5): Great food and good location. - Had everything you need for breakfast from continental to cooked. Had the cooked option which was very good.Great food in the restaurant at reasonable prices.
- Dawn (9/5): We had a pleasant weekend at this beautiful, friendly pub restaurant. Would recommend to anyone. Nothing was too much tr - Lovely pub atmosphere, friendly, helpful staff. Room was clean and comfortable and had everything you needed. Food was excellent. Nothing to dislike.
- Tanya (10/5): -
- Matt (10/5): -
- Watts (10/5): - The room was very clean and bed really comfortable! The pillows were really comfy too and obviously a high quality, black out curtains also .
Cleaner Alison was so friendly and helpful aswell as all staff . Nothing
- Jenny (8/5): -
- David (8/5): We enjoyed the area and the location and had nice evening meals, but the real winners are the team . - We liked the staff and location with parking ,It was easy to reach beautiful countryside and the autumn trees were a delight with a kaleidoscope of colours. The hotel had a nice laid back feel. Personally I felt that the recent refurbishment could have been designed more user friendly with more thought put into what is required by guests instead of photo shoot props like a small unusable free standing bath, just a few clothes hooks which made you feel that you were only welcome for a one night stay. That said because the staff were very good at trying to make our stay enjoyable we did enjoy our stay . I hope my concerns are viewed as constructive as just a few minor tweaks would make any further visits just that bit more enjoyable.
- Philip (8/5): Pleasurable - Staff exceedingly friendly and helpful The small bedroo
- Alison (8/5): Friendly, comfortable and ideal place to stay for a visit to Much Wenlock and surrounding area - Room was lovely, bed comfortable. Plenty of storage space. Nice and quiet at night. We needed oat milk for our tea in the morning and staff were very fast to provide this for us. There was always a parking space in the car park and although the front door opened onto the car park traffic was not an issue at all. Breakfast was lovely. You can either have continental which is included or if you want a little more than either something on toast or a full fry up which you pay for accordingly. Check the light bulbs please! One of the ones above the bed and one above the shower does not work and needs replacing. My partner did not want me to bother or I would’ve told you. it would have been nice if one of the windows downstairs could have been been opened to create a through draft. It was extremely hot inside Sometimes so I appreciate there was a fan supplied. (This would have just circulated the hot air inside) to compensate for no open window, we left the front door open while we were downstairs. At night the green electric emergency fire sign is right opposite Art in the bed and lights up the room like Piccadilly Circus. Far too bright, we were not told if we could have turned it off and I doubt it. Get the manager to sleep in there so they can appreciate how bright it is!
- Melanie (10/5): -
- Sue (10/5): Wonderful, warm and welcoming - Full of character, beautifully renovated, Xmas decorations were wonderful.
Staff were warm, welcoming and so friendly, exceptionally dog friendly.
Continental Breakfast was fresh and delicious. Can’t think of anything
- Angela (5/5): Disappointing - Location - lay out - ambiance - staff friendly Scores low as booking.com said breakfast included and all we got was juice coffee cereal croissants and toast - what they called continental but it wasn’t as no meats or cheeses
Always before when Booking.com says it includes breakfast it means a cooked one!
- Koehler (9/5): - Staff and food are great ! Room was too hot and no way to turn the heating down as no trv on radiator in lounge x
- Fiona (8/5): -
- Melly Giusti (8/5): - The room was nice and cosy I should have asked for a room without stairs
- karon (10/5): Helpful staff all very polite and friendly - Location very good
Lovely room and bathroom
Very clean and spacious. Basic continental breakfast
If you would like a cooked one you pay extra
- Ani (8/5): -
- Mike (10/5): -
- Garry (10/5): Excellent - Excellent facilities and friendly staff and lovely food Nothing
- Gill (7/5): -
- Vanessa (8/5): Great pub and room - The room was lovely with very comfortable bed. The food great and the staff were very friendly and we were made to feel very welcome. Only downsides were the very bright emergency exit light in the bedroom and the traffic noise
- Lyn (9/5): It was very enjoyable, the staff make you feel so welcome. - Lovely staff working their socks off on a very busy Saturday, still found space for us. Cooked breakfast and indeed all the cooked meals were lovely although having stayed before it was something of a shock to pay extra for it. Refurbishment has been nicely done. However the continental breakfast was very dissappointing and there are a shedload of things that the refurbishment hasn't got right. No grab handles in the bathroom, everything fitted for someone tall eg. shower and therefore difficult to access and use if you are only 5 foot tall! No chairs in the bedrooms, and although very comfortable to sleep on, the beds were too tall to sit on (and no support for your back!). Given that most of the people staying were over retirement age things like chairs and grab rails are vital.
- Roy (10/5): -
- Guest (10/5): Best weekend ever. - We liked everything. Every staff member, without exception, was excellent in every way. Couldn't dislike anything.
- Alison (8/5): -
- Duncan (9/5): -

- Jason (8/5): -
- Sandra (7/5): - Comfortable room and great location Continental breakfast was very basic and we hadn't expected to pay extra for cooked breakfast
- Lee (10/5): -
- Paul (2/5): Nice Place but Poorly Run Hotel - Good Food and staff serving Details in the room and that it was very cold when we arrived. No staff in the hotel overnight.
Woken by a fire alarm before 7am and no staff to deal with it. When they arrived they had no idea what to do and allowed and encouraged staff and guests to enter the building whilst the alarm was still sounding. We packed up quickly and left fo home after just one night as we did not feel safe!!
- Elizabeth (10/5): - Friendly staff, comfy bed, big bathroom.
- Neil (8/5): Comfortable and good value - Period building with character. Nice bar and restaurant area
