Guest Reviews
- Francoise (3/5): Lovely location and host. However, the pool was dirty and the lack of good fans was disappointing. - The location is great as you are isolated The pool was green and not cleaned properly
We knew there was not air conditioning but the fans were not adequate.
- Oddbjørn (8/5): House with nice swimming pool, but in a remote location - Villa Sterna is a very big and spacious house with 3 floors. The ground floor could be considered a separate apartment with a separate entrance and its own kitchen, which could be ideal for two families staying together. In addition to two separate kitchens there are several separate bedrooms on each floor.
The terrace on the 1st floor is big, surrounding almost the entire house, and has a great view towards the sea and the garden and swimming pool area, being great for breakfast and dinner alike.
There is a bathroom on each floor, including the upper floor, so there is sufficient capacity for a full house of people.
The kitchens are specious and well equipped, making it easy to prepare food yourself.
The swimming pool was probably the best part and is probably one of the main reasons why you should stay at Villa Sterna. The swimming pool is quite big, maybe 5x10 meters if I should guess from memory, and the depth is from 1 to 2.5 meters, so that it is suitable for most. There is salt water instead of chlorine water in the pool, which we found to be great. There is light in the pool, so it can also be used after dark. There was a pool guy dropping by during our stay, but he did not remove all the sand etc from the bottom of the pool, only the insects etc floating on the surface. This was however not a problem, but could improve just for the looks of it.
There is also a volleyball/tennis/basketball court, but it was not used much as there is limited equipment available, it was too hot during the day and there was no lighting on the court for use in the evenings.
The nearby beach was also quite good, but you either have to walk for 5 minutes through the “bush” or 10 minutes around on the road to get there. Towards the end of our stay we discovered that down at the beach we could jump from the cliffs (up to almost 10 meters), something which could be fun for larger kids and grown ups. But be careful about the depth...
The WiFi was OK, but sometimes unstable. Villa Sterna is not exactly in a central location so study the map and be aware of its location relative to the city center before you rent it; it is not in a walking distance from anything except the small nearby beach and a nearby local sea food restaurant. If you want to go to restaurants, shopping or sightseeing, you will spend a lot of time driving. It is ~30-45 minutes drive to Loutraki/Corinth, each way.
The last kms of the road is very crappy, made of gravel, dust and lumps of concrete.
There is no proper stand-up shower on ground floor and 1st floor, only on the upper floor. On the ground floor and 1st floor there are bathtubs with shower heads, making it awkward to take a shower sitting down.
There is no air condition in any of the bedrooms, making it too hot to sleep on the hottest days. We had a couple of almost sleepless nights because it was unbearable hot.
There are no door handles on the entrance doors, and the locks are snap locks, so if the doors are being closed and the keys are inside, you have a problem as it is not possible to open the doors again without contacting the owners.
The track from the gate of Villa Sterna down to the beach looked like a garbage dump and were generally over-grown. It is recommended to clean away the garbage and to open up the track a little more by cutting away shrubbery.
There was construction of new apartments ongoing down on the beach when we stayed here. The builders were very unhygienic, shitting on the ground in a lot of places in the surrounding area. This will probably not be a problem after the construction period is finished, which seems to be soon. But the beach below these new apartments (which is the only recommended beach within walking distance), might be closed off in the future as it seemed like they were constructing some kind of gate there for the new apartments. Check out this for future stays. The beach is also very rough with sharp stones etc, so you need shoes when bathing
