• Gregor (5/5): Passable for the price but more cons than pros I’m afraid - Location is good, tubes nearby and close walk to the city. The host was helpful. It is cheap The property was a bit messy. There was a bleeping fire alarm the whole time outside that you could hear. The walls are thin and can hear other guests. Bed is that old and soft. The water was also cold one morning

Además, el baño estaba sucio y no invitaba nada a ducharse; de hecho, me duché con chanclas por si acaso . La cortina del baño también estaba sucia y había moqueta por todas partes, que entiendo que es común en Londres, pero personalmente no me pareció higiénico. Tenía muchos trastos y el water le costaba tragar y el agua de la ducha tardaba 15 min en calentarse . La cocina estaba llena de trastos y desorden, así que finalmente no nos sentimos cómodos usándola para cocinar. En general, la estancia no cumplió con nuestras expectativas. Sé que es un piso compartido y no se le puede pedir más pero le falta limpieza de trastos y buena limpieza en el baño .

The room was spacious but it had a strange smell. The other guests were nice and quiet. The bathroom and kitchen were full of things that seemed nobody used ever. During my four day star nobody came to clean up.

• Markus (4/5): Friendly owner, but the place is in bad shape - I can just affirm what most other reviewers have written. There is one big advantage of this room: The owner is friendly and helpful. He let me get to my room a few hours before the regular check-in time because I had caught an early flight, and when I accidentally locked myself out of my room one night, I could call him and he helped me to a spare key. So I'm giving extra points for this. However, the place itself does not warrant a positive review at all, and the main reason for this is the lack of cleanliness. The whole flat was full of junk that has obviously not been moved or cleaned in a long time - dead plants, piles of old letters, unused cleaning equipment that is covered in dust. The kitchen in particular was full of half-used boxes of cornflakes, pasta etc., which were months, sometimes years past their best-before-date. The desk in my room was covered in scratches. The mattress was really hard and beaten up on one side and flat on the other. The water tap in the kitchen was full of rust. The carpets were dirty. The hallway was covered in a strong, unpleasant smell. Overall, I would say that the whole place needs a proper professional deep cleaning, and most of the furniture needs to be replaced.

The house arrangements, toilet with dead plant, bathroom with personal objects, messy kitchen, worn out furniture in the bedroom, It reveals little consideration to the guests. Just a little bit effort the house would be proper for hosting guests.

• Eric Leone (8/5): Great Value for money, transport and groceries close by and cozy room. - This place is a cosy room with great value for money. Ashfar is the warmest host you could imagine, offering clear instructions and also assistance with anything you need. The location is multiculturally vibrant (S/SE Asia?) and has a lot of character, as it is also one of the oldest parts of london. It feels quite different from areas like the typical touristic parts of London. Transportation is few minutes away, either Shadwell station or a short walk to the north you will find Whitechapel station. There are a lot of grocery and food shops close by. In my case I needed a place to stay for a conference and went out a lot every day, so I didn't need any fancy amenities aside from basic bathroom and bedroom. For that, this place was great :) Nothing bad to mention tbh. Depending on different preferences, the place has the basic needs and the area might not be everyone's favourite as it is an older part of London, but to others it might be super interesting so I suggest to research a bit and see if it's normally something you like to see when you travel. If it's the typical London attractions that you want to see, they're only around 30- 40 mins by tube anyway.

The room was spacious, the bed was also very comfy. Location is 5 mins from the nearest tube stop so ideal. Nothing given the price on the low end for London!

• Evert-jan (6/5): Cheap room that could use some love - The host was very friendly. And the location is convenient. Noise from guests from 1.30 till 3 at my first night. The second night they (host and friends) moved out immediately when i said i needed some sleep so that was better. The room is very cheap but as others have pointed out, it needs some love and especially lots of stuff could be thrown out. There were at least 25 items in the bathroom that could be thrown away, or stored in a cabinet or something. And if a plant has died its time to throw it away 🙂. Simple things like that could improve the place a lot. Oh and I think better direction instructions could be put on booking.com. The host was helpful but the address is incomplete.
• Marin (7/5): Good - The host was great and gave me some useful tips on how to see as much as possible in London. At night it was very quite outside. This accommodation is not a bad option for 1-2 nights, but for more nights it is better to find something closer to the city center. The location is not bad if you want to be near Tower Bridge (20 minutes walk), but it is a bit far from other city attractions. The locks on the toilet are very sharp, you have to be very careful not to cut yourself.

The stress of the underground is not something you need to worry about as everything is walking distance.. All the places I wanted to go were less than an hour walk which is nice as you get to explore the city rather than being on a train like most locations in London. I highly recommend this place if you're not to fussy and want a decent location at a very affordable price. Room is quite small, a TV would have been nice but I knew, I didn't have one before purchasing so not really a bad thing. Very hard apartment to find, host did immediately come and meet me outside so was not kept waiting for very long. Bed was uncomfortable, mattress needs changing.

• Löliger (10/5): A wonderful Indian island in London. - I came to London - for the second time in 26 years - to attend a salsa workshop by a Colombian dancer at the Mulberry Sports Centre. This exceptional artist and also my friendly, helpful, kind and understanding host made a huge impression on me and inspired me. Close to the city, own key also to the flat, comfortable bed, cosy bed linen, own bath towel, suitable power socket on request, many restaurants and grocery shops nearby (also open on Sundays); not only for short trips, but also for longer stays would be well conceivable. The room/flat is functionally furnished and in a quiet location. I was allowed to use the kitchen and the host even offered pastries for breakfast. I really appreciated the kettle for my coffee. I was given the exact address and even photos of the house before I arrived. The address was therefore easy to find. I didn't miss any signposting at the entrance to the house. Regarding the assessment of cleanliness: you can be happy about everything and everything can put you in a bad mood. It's a matter of choice. Before my trip I read this: 'Our destiny is not determined by what happens to us... - although people tend to think so. Our destiny is not what happens to us. It is our reaction to what is happening in the present that determines the next moment." Well, in London I had many opportunities to experience how true this is! Good value for money. For comparison: my dinner cost £24.12 (CHF 27.40) on my return to Zurich airport - excluding dessert. I ate "Vegi Malabur" and 1/2 naan bread at Foodland India + 1 drink from the kiosk.) I felt very comfortable in London! Thank you very much. -

• Eliot (4/5): Good hospitality, adequate location and comfort BUT VERY BAD cleanliness. I don't recommend it. - I’m normally not a very demanding or severe customer. I am normally pretty easily satisfied without much or with what I am given. However, this time, I can’t help but give a bad review. Honestly, I don’t know how this establishment has such good reviews and such a good overall rating. Let’s start with the positive first. As described in most of the other reviews, the host is very nice, welcoming, helpful and was available whenever there was a question or a request. Furthermore, it is indeed pretty cheap and does the job if you simply want a basic and affordable place to sleep reasonably close to the city centre. Moreover, the bed was pretty comfortable and clean. Now for the negative points. The cleanliness, I would say, is the main problem with the place. The room as well as the whole apartment are pretty dirty and messy. Lots of dust, crumbs, old stuff lying around and gathering dust, some stains and rot in some places and other small pieces of objects lying here and there on the floor. Some of the furniture is really old and used. The desk in my room, for example, was full of weird scratches and one of the chairs seemed like it had been left outside for a while. There are some flies in the toilets, in which there is also a smell, that isn’t that disturbing though. However, all of this wouldn’t be as unpleasant if it wasn’t for a residual smell that fills the whole apartment. If I had to describe it, it’s like an old rotten carpet smell, which the floor is actually covered by, so this would explain its origin. But the most annoying aspect of it is that the smell permeated almost every one of my belongings, especially the clothing and the luggage/bags (basically, everything that is made of fabric) but also some of the electronic accessories. I have started washing my clothes and left some of my stuff in fresh air in hope that the smell will eventually go away. As of now, after a standard delicate program (at 30 degrees Celsius), the smell persists directly after taking the clothes out of the washing machine. However, it seems to vanish little by little when drying slowly in fresh air. Yet, I don’t know if it will be entirely gone when the clothes are fully dried. Anyway, it shouldn’t be necessary to worry about that when coming back from a trip and this level of cleanliness shouldn’t even be tolerable by a host when considering making an apartment available for traveling guests. I wouldn’t book it again, as I think there are some much better places available in London in a similar price range. The host was very nice and I have to apologize for this bad review, but I also have to be honest about my experience.

There was a bus station nearby to Trafalgar Square and all the important touristic objectives. 15 min walk to Tower Bridge and Tower of London. The host very friendly and gave me valuable tips about local transport and he answered all the questions asked. Is not a luxury flat but is a very cozy and comfy. If you want to live the London experience completely, including living like a true londonese, definitely you should stay at London rooms. The plugs. I forgot that in London there are special plugs and for an European that might me a problem. I did not had an adaptor and in the announcement is not specified that the plugs are different, but in the end the owner solved my problem by lending me an adaptor.
