Guest Reviews
- Renee (9/5): - Host was very helpful and provided lots of info, beds were confortable
- Lynette (10/5): A hidden gem. Our first choice in Aitutaki. - My husband and I recently spent 2 weeks in Aitutaki, staying at the Are Kapapapa house. We were really impressed with the house overall. The location was great if you are not into staying at resorts. It was out by itself with just one neighbouring house. It was also only a few hundred metres from a good snorkeling beach. Due to it being out of “town”, a car or scooter transport is essential. It is just 5 minutes drive to Ootu beach, which is a beautiful place to swim and enjoy the restaurants.
The house itself was very comfortable. It has 2 bedrooms, one with a king sized bed, and the other with 2 singles. The lounge was comfortable and the kitchen had all modern conveniences and essentials. The icing on the cake for us was the back verandah which was fully screened to ward off flies and mosquitoes. Good free wi-fi is available. An additional outside shower was also handy for removing beach sand and salt.
We cannot overstate our appreciation to Vaa for looking after us so well. He met us at the airport and led us around to the house, and provided a good run down on everything in the house and things to do nearby. Lots of fresh fruit were provided on arrival (mangoes, bananas, paw paws & coconuts), as well as a supply of filtered drinking water. Vaa is a very friendly bloke who provided lots of useful information on things to do and see about the islands.
Without any doubts, if we were to return to Aitutaki, we would definitely return to Are Kapakapa. All in all, it was our home away from home. No problems really. However, if you prefer resort style accommodation, then this will not suit you.
- Tanya (10/5): Excellent hosts and home - Location was private and quiet. Hosts are amazing. Excellent communication. The house was exactly as described. Clean and comfortable. Can not wait to hire again. Meitaki Atupaka Va'a and Jo. Nothing home was excellent
- Hilary (10/5): Great place, had everything you needed. Thanks Vaa and Jolene. - Great place to stay.
- Maku (10/5): Exceptional - Our two-week stay at Are Kapakapa was absolutely incredible. This family-run gem offers a unique blend of comfort, hospitality, and natural beauty that truly makes it stand out. From the moment we arrived, Vaa and Joliene, the wonderful hosts who manage the property, welcomed us with such warmth and genuine care that we instantly felt at home. Their attention to detail and commitment to ensuring our stay was perfect made the experience unforgettable.
The property itself is a slice of paradise. Surrounded by lush coconut trees, the entire house exudes a peaceful charm. One of the highlights of our stay was the close proximity to the beach—just a short walk away. It’s hands down one of the best beaches we’ve ever visited, with pristine sands and crystal-clear waters that made every moment there magical.
The house is fantastic—spacious, immaculately clean, and well-equipped to provide a cozy and comfortable experience. The cool sea breeze and the thoughtful layout of the house ensured we were always comfortable. It’s clear that Vaa and Joliene have put great effort into making Are Kapakapa a home away from home for their guests.
Another highlight of our stay was exploring the fruit trees around the property. The coconuts were a delightful treat, perfect for a refreshing snack after spending time at the beach. Every aspect of Are Kapakapa reflects the love and effort that Vaa and Joliene pour into their hospitality.
The combination of the peaceful atmosphere, thoughtful amenities, and personal touches made our stay truly special. Whether you’re enjoying the serenity of the house, savoring fresh coconuts, or soaking up the beauty of the nearby beach, it’s an experience that stays with you.
If you’re searching for a place that combines comfort, natural beauty, and an authentic family vibe, Are Kapakapa is the ideal choice. We left with cherished memories and are already counting down the days until we can return! Everything is perfect
- Simon (9/5): Superb - Secluded garden style property, peaceful and quiet. No ocean views of the beautiful aitutaki but nice that it is so private.
We were greeted by a big bowl of fresh fruit and coconuts. House was modern comfy and had everything we needed and to be honest was nicer than I thought it looked in the photos.
Thanks guys
- Lesley (9/5): Superb -
- Rangimarie (10/5): We would definitely book this property again !! - Loved the location - the fact that it was out of the way, not too close to others, very private was great. Our host met us at the airport to take us to our home. The home was perfect for our needs. The facilities were awesome. What we didn't like has nothing to do with the property but more to do with living on a tropical island and came in the form of smaller insects and the 'moko'. All were harmless.
- Raphael (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alexandra (10/5): 10/10! Wonderful stay. We couldn’t reccomend this home anymore. - Wonderful property. Very homey, yet so clean and liveable. Secluded, yet very central to many amenities. Wonderful service from owners.

loved the open deck able to sit out n chill. no issues
- Tai (10/5): Beautiful little home. Peaceful and private. Meitaki Maata! - Loved the privacy. Best trip to the airport ever. It took two mins to get there. Despite being next to the airport and golf club, it’s not noisy. Base 1 is a 5min walk. Really loved our stay. Apologies to the hosts as we left a bit of a mess. Needed ceiling fans.
- Anne (10/5): Loved everything about it. The surprise ei from Vaa and Jolene was truly heartwarming at the airport and checked to see - Outdoor shower

Delicious fruits available I wouldn’t class it as a DIDNT - maybe a small clothes dryer could be handy just for them wet days BUT Cant fault this beautiful nook on Aitutaki!!
- Jakub (10/5): . Exceptional stay. All we needed - Vaa was an excellent host. Picked us up from the airport, drove us around to get our stuff sorted and organized couple of scooters for us. The house is in a great location, 1 minute walk to beautiful beach. Been to Aitutaki many times and this was by far my favorite place to stay. Well equipped, fresh fruit, plenty of towels, great stereo, bbq and great outdoor area.
- Elizabeth (10/5): Home away from home - We had space away from the larger group!
It really felt like a home away from home especially with all the little things the hosts provided for us (eg. List of local businesses - best coffee; cheapest souvenirs; best fruit & veg etc.)
LOVE LOVE LOVED the sun room it was an awesome space to relax in! Nothing really… there are no ocean views from the property but it’s so close we weren’t bothered by that (just in case you expect to have to ocean in your backyard!)
- Brianna (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (10/5): A genuine tropical paradise - A beautifully presented house with all the amenities needed and a sense of peace and tranquility through its location.
- Caitlin (10/5): Exceptional - Nice and spacious accommodation. Great for a group. The outside patio is great. Kitchen had everything you need. Probably best to hire a car as it's a bit far from the shops etc.
- Zoe (10/5): A beautiful clean home away from home! - the host was phenomenal, Vaa met us at the airport and showed us how to get to the property! any issues he fixed immediately a real pleasure to talk to and answered all the questions we had about the island, property was in a great location and was immaculate. maybe a pool could be added in the future? lots of mosquitoes, but they are prevalent all over Aitutaki.
- Michelle (10/5): brilliant! - great house, everything was there!
