Guest Reviews
- Geoff (10/5): Exceptional - Joel, the owner is a great host, he helped me get oriented with the city.
- Verena (1/5): BED BUGS EVERYWHERE, avoid it - i got my money back i spend the night trying to sleep on a chair and a guy (from another room, with the same problem) on the sofa. PLEASE close the hostel, get rid of it, open again fresh & safe and make customers happy again, not ruin their holidays
p.s.: they were absolutely aware about the problem, also had bed bug stray staying at the reception desk but still let you sleep in these rooms full of bugs
- John (9/5): short walk from the floresta station in a safer neighborhood at a great price - the price was great and the location was in a safer neighborhood. they had lockers, lots of bathrooms i like private rooms but this is a hostel so i had a shared environnment. some bathrooms didnt have mirror
- Genna (10/5): Exceptional - Casa Babylon is a very special place in all possible ways. Of course, it's a fantastic choice if you want an affordable room in a convenient area, breathing with vibrant local life. There are bakeries and restaurants all over the place.
But beyond these necessary yet very pragmatic points, Casa Babylon and its owner, Joel, will make sure that your stay and experience in Medellin are just cosy, homely and genuine. Because regardless of our respective paths and stories, this is what we, travelers, are all looking for. N/A
- Victor (10/5): I recommend it! - The atmosphere is calm and very cozy. I recommend it for anyone who needs a little peace and quiet.
- Laura (8/5): Very good -
- Juan (9/5): Superb -
- Juan (7/5): Good -
- Andrei (8/5): Very good - It’s its clean and the staff is super nice and helpful It gets quite hot during the day in the dorms, so if you went out on Saturday and decided to sleep during the day be ready you’ll sweat a bit.
- Madrid (1/5): A Terrible Experience at This Hostel - the voluntary staff. I had a very negative experience with the owner of the hostel, Jhon. I booked in advance and, upon arriving, I called to ask for directions as I was only a few meters away. However, the response I received was completely inappropriate and rude. The owner, Jhon, seemed annoyed and offered no help to guide me to the hostel, which was already a frustrating start.
When I finally arrived, I discovered that there was no bed available, despite having made a prior reservation. This was due to an error on Jhon’s part. Despite the situation, he showed no courtesy or interest in solving the problem. Instead of offering a solution, he told me there was nothing he could do, leaving me stranded without accommodation.
To make matters worse, despite all the inconvenience, Jhon charged me the full price despite not giving the room or even a bed, only offering a 5,000-peso discount, which I found insulting given the mistreatment I received and the fact that I had to stay the whole night without a bed, and only allow to stay thanks to the volunteers.
Although the volunteers at the hostel tried to be helpful and even opposed Jhon’s orders, the treatment I received from the owner was completely unacceptable. I do not recommend this hostel under any circumstances due to the inhumane treatment and lack of professionalism of its owner.
On top of everything, the owner, who is from Bogotá, dared to call me “lanza” and other derogatory terms…
And even threatened to "share my profile" in Medellín’s hospitality networks because I left a corresponding review of his "services."
- Alejandro (9/5): Superb -
- Shubert (10/5): The best hostel of Medellin! - The hostel was the best! Great location, the best price, but above all, the best staff: Nataly, Katy, and John made me feel right at home. There was absolutely nothing negative about my stay
- David (9/5): nice, quiet, and friendly place - Nice place to stay, staff are friendly and attentive, good place to practice spanish. Stuff is not too far away. Beware there is construction next door for a while. The cooking pots and pans are awful. And don’t forget to take toilet paper to bathroom with you, as you can ask for some squares at desk.
- Jayson (10/5): top place - staff are great, very affordable, nice and chilled out. do not normally make reviews so it is a compliment in its self! i reccomend for short stays . i stayed 1 week!
- Ian (9/5): Solid hostel, great folks, depends on what kind of crowd you're looking for though - Great staff, the owner John is a really solid guy who's always checking in on you to make you're enjoying yourself and feeling comfortable. Always good vibes and music playing in the common area. The volunteers who work there are all good folks and on top of things as well. And it's in a very safe feeling neighborhood, a little farther from the metro station from other places I've stayed at in Floresta, but still only a 10 minute walk at most. Very affordable too for the quality of lodging. Don't forget to bring toilet paper into the bathroom with you! There sometimes is only one roll in the hostel at a time and it sits out in the lobby, so you have to remember to bring a few squares with you when you go into the bathroom. John is a reasonable dude though, so he might honestly go out and get an individual roll for each bathroom if you asked him, I just didn't think to ask while I was there.
Also I'm not dinging any points from the hostel for this, but just be aware, the hostel is pretty new still and the majority of people it attracts at this point are primarily Spanish speakers from other parts of Latin America, so you might have a bit of a hard time making friends and connections there if your conversational abilities aren't at a decent level yet. It wasn't too difficult for me, but just be aware not to expect too much of an English speaking backpacker crowd during your stay. John and some of the volunteers are functional with their English though.
- Nauman (10/5): Exceptional - Overall pleasant!
