- geoffrey (8/5): very relaxing stay - Lovely village. Beds very comfy .
good to visit bakewell matlock and NT properties
we had a lovely walk to the nine lady stones only took about 18 minutes to walk there , beautiful sunset on way back Parking very difficult , as when we were trying to find cottage someone had parked over sign
stairs are steep and those to second floor even steeper . and in the twin bedroom chest of drawers in front of radiator .it was very cold in the bedroom .
freeview tv not working ariel problem
Instructions of how to work the log burner would be handy
it is very hilly and small country lanes which were challenging ,
- Julia (10/5): Beautiful cottage in a stunning location - This is a beautiful cottage in a stunning location. We loved the thoughtful touches throughout the place. It was a great meeting place for us and our family, as well as our pet dogs who loved the local walks. The beds were especially comfortable and it was really helpful having 2 bathrooms and lots of fluffy towels provided.
It felt like everything had been though of and was provided. There was only one negative thing to be aware of when booking, and to be clear, not anything the owners could or should change. This is a beautiful historic property so the staircases are very steep. This was a slight issue for less mobile members of the group but there were sturdy handrails to help people.
- April (9/5): Amazing place to stay! The perfect staycation - The place was perfect for what we was looking for, plenty of living space, great location for walks and exploring, it was comfortable and homely.

- Rajendra (9/5): Superb - It was the most 'fully kitted' kitchen that we have found in our various stays. Great use of space. The cottage is in a lovely village location, among friendly neighbours. Very tastefully furnished. Parking is on the village road which can be difficult if you have more than one car.
- David (3/5): Ok but not as described, poor outside space, poor parking. - It was clean & tidy, beds comfy.
A nice welcome basket & milk in the fridge. It was small and the location was poor. It was supposed to have parking and a terrace? There was poor parking on the road alongside the property. The neighbours argued with us regarding parking in the street! There is not a terrace, there is a bench down the side of the property next to bins that looks directly onto the neighbours brick wall.
A large jag 4x4 was always parked across the entrance to the property.
The pictures of the property make it look a lot better than it is!
Also no one could have a shower upstairs in the attic bathroom if someone was using the shower on the first floor as the water pressure is not good enough and the water would stop.
We were just glad we were only here for two nights, we would have been really disappointed if we had to stay longer.
- Wendy (7/5): A fun, family weekend away - I needed tea towels and more loo roll. I extra loo tool for six guests was crazy - I had to go and buy some.
- Lawrence (8/5): Lovely cottage in a great location for our needs. -
- Carl (8/5): Very good -
- Helen (9/5): Superb - The cottage was beautifully decorated, with extra Christmas touches that were very thoughtful. The owner left a little welcome basket with milk in the fridge which was very handy. The beds and duvets were extremely comfortable and warm. We had everything we needed for a comfortable stay .
- Jacqueline (9/5): An awesome 2 days! Highly recommend Dene house - Warm and welcoming. Great facilities- comfortable bed, quality linen. Great communication with hosts, very accommodating.
- Catherine (10/5): A delightful cottage - Beautifully appointed well equipped, comfortable beds
In the perfect location for our tour of the country Nothing
- Lesley (7/5): Good -
- Adam (9/5): Excellent stay we visited Chatsworth and Haddon Hall which are both 15 mins away. Thank you Claire we would come back to - The cottage was very clean with great amenities. Local pub was fantastic with great walks and views on your doorstep. Stairs are steep but easily manageable rope along the wall to assist you. We had our 75 year old Mum with us who managed it no bother along with the kids 4&9. Water pressure in the shower upstairs is not good especially when someone is using the tap of toilet in another part of the house.
- Vicky (8/5): We really loved our stay here, great location and beautiful cottage. Shame about firewood and hot water, but a great p - Beautifully decorated, full of charm and sumptious bedding. Supplied with everything you could want, including lovely toiletries. Toaster didn't work, no fuel for the fire (its better to put that fuel isn't supplied in the summer months as we had been on a rainy cold walk and were looking forward to the fire), hot water pressure very low. No instructions for the central heating either so I had to sleep in a jumper.
- Andrew (7/5): Great for dog lovers, avoid if you are not one. - First and second floor accommodation (bedrooms and bathrooms) were great. Property is “dog friendly” and therefore not friendly to people who don’t enjoy the smell of dog.
- Hilary (9/5): We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay in this comfortable, well equipped cottage. - Beautiful location, Clean, fresh, good quality fittings, free WiFi, quaint, good water pressure Parking was difficult, welcome basket rather limited, rope banister coming away from wall, not a ‘terrace’ as described, not enough instructions for appliances, steepness of the stairs not stressed in description. Not sure the property would have been very spacious for 6 adults.
- Rachel (9/5): Lovely old cottage in a beautiful Peak District village - In a beautiful village. Old quirky cottage that was well laid out and had everything we needed. Beds and linen were wonderful and cosy. Loved the crisps and elderflower water left for us. It was a very sociable space for a family holiday. Stairs very steep but we got used to it quickly. I’m fitter now.
- David (10/5): Most excellent - Lovely cottage, just what was needed on a cold damp weekend
- Helen (9/5): Superb -
- Molly (9/5): Superb - The cottage was cosy and quiet, in the most peaceful location, whilst still being close to places like Bakewell and Chatsworth House. There were loads of good walks around the local countryside, perfect for anyone with dogs. The cottage was so comfortable, and the log burner really made it feel like home. We were there in the recent snow and it was like staying in a Christmas card! Absolutely loved our stay and couldn't fault the cottage at all.
- Hollie (9/5): Amazing place, comfortable, warm, scenic and cosy -
- Gary (10/5): Perfect for a mini break in the Peaks. Great find. - Quiet, quiet and well equipped for mini break. Nothing
- Mike (10/5): Fantastic - Lovely cottage in a lovely village in the peak.
Very clean and looks like it was recently renovated, all facilities you need.
Attentive host. Nothing
- Susan (8/5): It was an excellent stay and we would book again, with good safe location, - the location was good, though challenging to find, it was quiet village, beds and bedding very comfortable and warm. the photograph of the property certainly helped to locate the cottage.. There were no shops in the village -- which was absolutly fine by us, but may not have suited others. Some good local eating places and well situated for exploring. Property was difficult to find, the property name sign was not visible, car parking was restrictive, there were no instructions for the appliances eg cooker! and heating (although we did not need the heating at this time of year).
The stairs were steep -- but although this did not affect us at all it may have an impact on other visitors.
any leaflets for local attractions would be helpful for future visitors.
- Roxanne (8/5): Very good - Good cottage in a great location. Super comfy beds and a well equipped kitchen.
A welcoming pub just down the road, fab walks, a nice weekend had by all!
- Jai (8/5): Lovely little cottage in a beautiful setting for a great price, would highly recommend staying here! - Great little cottage, all the required amenities, comfy beds, good pressure in showers, nicely decorated, nice views! There is no garden/outdoor area but this wasn’t an issue for us
