Guest Reviews
- Tremurici (10/5): -
- Wilson (10/5): - Everything was amazing the lodge was immaculate the setting was perfect absolute pleasure to stay The only fault was they need new oven trays but that's minor considering how perfect it was
- Jill (9/5): Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend it. - The lodge is on a nice and quiet property. There were other people in the other lodges so the place did not feel deserted but it was still peaceful. The lodge is a good size for 2-3 pax. It does not have air-conditioning so it may get hot in the summer. There is also no toiletries provided except a bottle of soap presumably a body wash so do remember to bring your own. We also had some difficulty figuring out the lock.

- Joyce (8/5): Walnut Lodge - Very clean and comfortable lodge with lots of fenced in garden space. The lodge was very well equipped with everything needed for a holiday home. It was not as close to Ashbourne as we thought.
- Richard (10/5): Excellent break in lovely log cabin. - Everything about it was lovely. New, comfortable, nearly everything worked well. Great outdoor space too. Couldn't get hob to work. Need clearer instructions. Maybe faulty?
- Gary (10/5): A nice quiet break away. - It was delightful and set in a very nice area with everything you need just a short drive away. Nothing.
- Alison (10/5): Perfectly thought out holiday retreat .will certainly return - Lovely lodge , had everything we needed . Comfortable bed .
Nice and quiet location.
Our little dogs loved the large garden for. Maybe need a few more kitchen items like a milk jug, a few small pots for nuts crisps ect a large bowl for fruit and salad .
- Karen (10/5): -
- mark (10/5): Loved it loved it loved it - Beautifully decorated, spotless, catered for absolutely everything and thought about everything, even dog poop bags, poop scooper. The stay was fantastic, shame about the weather Nothing
- Andrew (8/5): -
- elisabeth (8/5): -
- Ablha (10/5): - Lovely home Could do with some blankets
- Alyson (8/5): Lovely lodge holiday - - Lovely modern lodge that had everything we needed.
Tea, coffee, washing liquid etc which was nice - Although clean, there was areas that could have been cleaner- could have done with a bit of attention to detail on the cleaning as on the finish.
-Towels were tiny!!!
- Donna (8/5): It was a pleasant stay, lovely & clean would return but when the weather is warmer so can explore more & make us - Extremely clean & comfortable beds Sofa was slightly uncomfortable if you plan to stay in & chill out but if you plan on being outdoors mainly then it would suit. Lodges say Ashbourne Lodges but infact its closer to my house in Derby than Ashbourne & no pubs or amenities walkable within an hour!
- Dan (9/5): - The dog had lots of room to run around Could benefit from a few more cooking pots, e.g, earthenware for cooking in the oven.
- Hannah (7/5): -
- Gowan (10/5): Excellent and will be back again - Great location and a huge garden, not totally secure if you have an escape artist. Recommend the Chinese in Etwall if you want takeaway! Bigger entry mat for muddy paws!
- Olivia (10/5): The perfect find! - Well equipped. We arrived on a very wet cold evening and walked into a beautifully warm cabin! Comfy beds, very clean! Great garden for the dog! Nothing
- amber (10/5): Very well kept holiday homes in a great area. - I liked how clean and cosy it was, and the location was great for watching the sunrise and sunset. It had everything you needed and great facilities to make / store food. We had a lovely sleep because the beds were so comfy and fresh. I also liked how each home had its own fenced garden with seating area, great if you have small children or dogs. We loved it so much that we have booked again for next year!
- Pam (9/5): Lovely location and dog friendly . Would definitely recommend for a couple - Lovely setting and plenty of room for the dog to run. Very warm and airy. Could have slightly more storage in the kitchen. 2 large cupboards were locked. Had to put food stuff in the cupboard with saucepans.
- Kayleigh Riches (9/5): Beautiful lodge, amazing garden, perfect for exploring the Peaks! - Lovely lodge, great outdoor space for our dog, close enough to enjoy the Peak District, had a great stay! Would definitely stay again. Towels are small, there were only correct number of plates/bowls/cutlery to people lodge can house (4) which we found a bit tight when cooking for 4 people as needed more for serving, and could do with mirrors in the bedrooms. All minor things, finishing touches.
- Barry (7/5): -
- Paula (8/5): It’s a great place and we will return - The property has a Brilliant grounds of your taking kids or dogs. We loved staying there and the host answered all our questions straight away No fault of the hosts but the cleaners did miss a few things but it was easy to clean up. There was also a smell so we put the bin outside as this was attracting flies inside
- Jeanette (9/5): We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and our dog Buster thought he was in heaven having all that space to run round in. - Everything except as below A suggestion that a hand rail is put in the shower.
- Adam (9/5): Superb -
- Kelly (9/5): Superb -
- Susan (10/5): Lovely stay, great with Electric chargers. Plenty outside space. - Lovely lodge every thing was perfect. We had a lovely stay , looking forward to coming back. Lovely and clean , plenty outdoor
space .
- Ryan (9/5): Very enjoyable and comfy place to stay - The location was very nice, the property was very clean and tidy. It was also nice that each lodge had it's own area with a fence around it which made it easier to let the dog enjoy it. There wasn't anything too bad about the property. It was just a nice place to be.
- Quinn (10/5): Exceptional - The beds were really comfy and the place was clean and nice. Surrounded by countryside/farms
- Julie (10/5): Superb - Very clean and excellent facilities
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Katie (10/5): 100% recommended - Excellent place, would certainly recommend. Wonderful location, great amenities, very comfortable beds and an all round perfect stay.
- Damian (7/5): MIXED! - The lodge is nicely ordered and nicely furnished and very warm with piping hot water. . Each lodge in its own fenced area with plenty of space around them.
Because it's néw, it's all very nice. We had to clean through when we arrived. There were black hairs everywhere, even in all the beds. The matress cover was quite dirty. We suspect the previous occupants had black dogs,, but even so the cleaning should have been thorough. Hairs in the shower , bits in the base of cupboards, and even on sweeping there was lots of dust and hair, both human and dog! The sofas had lots of animal hair on them. We cleaned the floors with wipes and there was lots of dirt. This was disappointing as much about the lodge was really good.
Storage for clothes etc is very limited. Hooks on the back off doors would be a good idea.
- Benjamin (10/5): Lovely little tiny home. Very comfortable and beautiful location. - I only wished we had a washing machine for our clothes. But never mind.
- Martin (9/5): Superb - Excellent accommodation, clean and well equipped, and Dog friendly Nothing really
- Andy (9/5): Superb location,Brilliant for dogs and and outstanding facilities - The location, the pet friendly gardens , the property and the facilities The only Isai we had was that our dogs are small and could get under the fence on the right hand side as you exit the front door. Will need panels along the ground if it’s an option
- Donna (10/5): Perfect for a short break nice to be somewhere that was comfortable and clean with everything we needed - Lovely and clean well thought out
And cosy and comfortable
- Billy (8/5): Very good -
- Rupert (10/5): Exceptional -
- Richard (10/5): Exceptional - Would of been pleasant for the host to of made some sort of communication
- Patzy (8/5): We still had a nice time but cleanliness needs addressing. - Good location, nice and quite and I would recommend DoveDale for a walk. Nice cabin, enough space, great garden for dogs. I would suggest: a hoover, a mop, a cloth to clean the counters. As in winter there is mud outside and having pets it would be nice to be able to quickly hoover. The beds when stripped on our last day had dirt and hair on the protector sheet, it was gross.
The cups in the kitchen cupboard were dirty, the dishwasher needed salt and rinse. The back glass door had bird poop on the window which was dried and annoying when looking out.
- Ellissia (9/5): Superb - Loved the location of the lodge and how they are all individually separated. Would highly recommend and we’d love to come back in summer!
- Rachel (8/5): Beautiful location, beautiful stay. - It’s a lovely, compact property in a beautiful location, love that my dog had space unfortunately he would have been able to escape as he is small and determined. Dishwasher needed salt and shine
- Kelly (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anne (9/5): Superb -
- Gadsby (10/5): Exceptional -
- Julie (10/5): We’ll be back and would definitely recommend to others. - Perfect size, lovely and cosy. Very comfortable. Large secure garden for the dogs to play ball in. A lot of space between each lodge. Nothing not to like.
- Helen (9/5): Superb -
- Bob (9/5): Cosy & comfy. - My second time with my disabled son. It’s quiet and comfortable. Has everything you need and cosy & warm. Waking up to countryside all around. An hour to the Peak District National park. Nothing as I knew what we were getting! So good we will return next year.
- Emily (10/5): Beautiful lodge in a lovely and peaceful location. - Absolutely stunning lodge in a gorgeous location. The lodge was so cosy and spotless, the shower is amazing. A really nice modern layout, with a big enclosed garden for your dog's to have a run around. I loved everything about it and really enjoyed our stay. Nothing
- Clare (10/5): Hosts were extremely helpful and so friendly and kind. - Very comfortable. There was a strong smell of polish upon entering the property.
- Ryan (8/5): Very good -
- Matt (10/5): Exceptional - Quite and no light pollution. It is difficult to find entrance in the dark.
- Iona (9/5): Wonderful stay, immaculate facilities. - Very clean, comfortable and well taken care of facilities.
- Victoria (8/5): Great stay, dog loved the garden and it was warm and snug inside despite the pouring rain. - Great garden area although not secure for small dog. Well fitted out, warm and modern. Beds comfortable. Great that it’s dog friendly but there was a lot of fur in the bedding. We did move the sofas so we could watch the tv which was positioned too high so wasn’t good for the neck.
- Bob (10/5): A lovely comfortable lodge fit for a family of four or less. - A lovely lodge in peaceful surroundings. If you like narrow lanes, comfy environment, a Peak District not far away, then this is the place for you. Very warm, good tv selection, great WiFi. Good kitchen facilities. Nothing really. It’s rural but your research would show that.
- Anna (9/5): Superb -
- John (10/5): Excellent dog friendly Accomodation - Modern, clean and in great location. Lots of garden space for the dogs. Great price. What's not to.like. Nothing
- Judith (10/5): Lovely stay everything you could possibly need provided lovely and light. -
- Jonathan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Micaela (10/5): Beautiful, practical and convenient - The location is beautiful and practical. Everything was clean and the layout is practical for young families. Nothing to dislike.
- Julie (9/5): Beautiful countryside retreat - Peace and quiet. Fresh air and lot of space. Lovely just to be left alone to have a break. Very dog friendly which is great. Another dog got through the space in the fence and tried to lunge and annoy my dog which was such a shame as it put me on edge for the rest of the stay. It is a super dog friendly place so lots of people will bring dogs. Dogs are very territorial and will easily get out of the fence to another lodge very easily. A little wire on the fences would fix this very easily and make the lodges secure and this would be much less stressful. This would have been 10 star review if the fences were secure. I would come back regardless but that would make it perfect for me personally.
- James (9/5): Great for a quiet getaway - Clean and modern.
- John (10/5): Executive value - Lovely kitchen and bathroom, really well built.
Huge enclosed garden which our dog loved.
Warm, cosy and comfortable and everything really clean and modern. Nothing
- Mark (9/5): Excellent facilities, very clean, tea, coffee and slippers were a nice touch -
- Jacqui (8/5): Tastefully furnished, bright and airy lodge, ideal to get away from every day life. Loved it 💚 - The lodges are located in a rural area - shops and pubs are not in walking distance but the country lanes were easy to drive along (not too narrow for this townie!!) Tesco superstore just 5 miles away.
Lovely area for taking our dog for walks in the evening. The 5 lodges are spaced well apart so you didn’t feel on top of each other. There was a real feeling of tranquility even when there were young children playing in the grounds of one lodge.
The lodge was light and airy. The water pressure was fab - the shower amazing. The dishwasher was handy. Good Wi-Fi and TV. It looked very welcoming when we arrived. We would definitely recommend and we would definitely stay again. There was nothing that we did not like but a couple of minor observations:
It would have been handy to have instruction manuals for heating (which kept coming on for some reason in the evening despite the lodge being 24 deg inside!) and one for the oven/hob.
Maybe a broom to sweep the floor as the grass had just been cut (there was a dustpan and brush but a broom would have been easier and I like keeping things clean).
Also there was a lovely gas bbq but no tools, so we couldn’t use it as we didnt notice until after we had been to the supermarket.
An electric fan would also have been handy as we picked the best week of summer to visit, although with all the doors and windows open there was good air flow.
- Rayo (8/5): Very good -
- Jane (9/5): Nice little cosy hideaway - Lovely location, peace and quiet. Our dogs loved running around outdoors. Cosy, clean and comfortable bed. Tea, coffee, sugar provided along with slippers. Gaps in fencing where dogs can escape but there is planted hedging so when it grows this should provide more security
- Richard (10/5): Absolutely great place to stay, very good design, also haste a nice place to sit outside for BBQ - Excellent quiet location, big enclosed garden which is excellent for bigger dogs, smaller ones may be able to get through the gaps but still excellent.
- Hannah (9/5): Lovely location and excellent quality of decor and fittings in lodge - Peaceful location, lovely gas bbq supplied. Little more space in the bedrooms would have been nice but that's being very picky
- Sasha (10/5): Exceptional -
- Katie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Julie (9/5): Superb - Location, communication from owners, clean & nicely presented, comfy beds, little extras (tea, slippers..). Would definitely come back! Tiny things - need washing up brush/sponge/cloth (perhaps were in an undiscovered cupboard!), better bathroom bin (pedal operated), door handle/lock VERY stiff to operate from both sides (if can't be rectified a mention of this in the helpful pre-arrival email would be good, as would a how-to notice on the inside of the door for locking/unlocking from inside). Very small points, great accommodation.
- Neil (9/5): Great place to stay, would highly recommend. - Peaceful setting, not busy (only one other lodge occupied). Nice big garden areas. Looked to be a great place to go for walks but see below. Brand new building so everything clean and new. Plenty of parking. Only reason we haven't given hosts question max points is we didn't see any one as we used the key lock box when we arrived. The place is great, so these are just nit picking. We would definitely stay again, but you may want to look at...
Providing some hooks on back of at least the bathroom door and a lock on that door would be a good idea as well to avoid embarrassment! Stays on the terrace doors are needed as they are quite big and catch the wind, slamming.
The paddock fencing looks great but the wide gaps between the lower rails make it easy for a dog to escape onto the road, so we couldn't relax whilst the lodge doors were open.
The main thing that really irritated us (and this is obviously NOT your fault) is that when trying to make the most of the lovely area and walk the dog on the local footpaths we found almost everyone un-passable as the styles were either completely overgrown or illegally swallowed up into peoples gardens. Field gates were tied shut requiring cutting and retying! In the end we gave up and went elsewhere. So whilst your lodge was excellent and very welcoming... the other local landowners obviously weren't.
- Rupert (10/5): Exceptional - Super quiet, very comfortable Nothing!
- Katherine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Janet (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gopal (10/5): Enjoyable stay. Suits a small family along with pet. - Amazing location, quiet and calm. Cozy and comfortable. Our pet enjoyed a lot as it is fenced. Value for the money we spent. Lawn could have been mowed :-)
- Amanda (10/5): Fantastic, will be going on our favourites list 😃 - What a fantastic little lodge this is, in a superb location with everything you could possibly need at your fingertips. John was a brilliant host with quick, friendly responses to my communication. The lodge is well equipped, spotlessly clean and on a beautiful plot. We didn’t bring our dog this time but given the size of the private garden each lodge has we will be back and will bring Frank next time !! We booked for 2 nights but ended up staying 3 as we wanted more time, next time we’ll be booking for the week. Check in and out was simple. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a well appointed rural getaway that’s within easy reach of amenities.
