Guest Reviews
- Lisa (9/5): -
- JB55 (10/5): Lovely weekend getaway - The Byre is in the peaceful, beautiful Shropshire countryside. It has everything you need for a self catering holiday. The garden is enclosed so we were able to let our dog out without worrying that he might escape.
It's clean and tidy and the garden is lovely.
There are some nice walks nearby too. Typical English country roads which our satnav seems to delight in taking us on even when we don't need to 🤦
Apart from that nothing.
- Carol (10/5): Absolutely beautiful stay - Very cosy It was perfect
- Catherine (6/5): The property was beautiful, and if you're able bodied I'm sure it would have been a lovely stay. - The location was beautiful and the property was lovely. Unfortunately I booked for my elderly parents, my mother is in a wheelchair following a stroke many years ago, and the listing stating it was fully wheel chair accessible and all on one level looked perfect. Unfortunately this wasn't the case - there was a large step between the living area and the rest of the property - which meant my mum couldn't stay there for any period on her own as she couldn't reach the bathroom - the wheelchair didn't fit in the bedroom door, and the bed was extremely high - meaning that my father had to lift her in to bed every night.
- Mike (10/5): Heavenly. First class in every respect. -
- claire (9/5): A lovely stay, would recommend. - Spotlessly clean
Kitchen well stocked with necessary appliances and tools
Comfortable bed
Good WiFi connection
Perfect enclosed garden, great for dogs Unfortunately we had problems with the heating system. However, the owners were very helpful and did their best to rectify it.
- Marianne (10/5): Peaceful stay in beautiful countryside -

- Alex (9/5): A lovely getaway for a long weekend with plenty to do and see. - Peaceful location. Plenty of character, comfortable and well equipped. Oven racks and tray were very dirty and had to be cleaned before we could use the oven.
- Deborah (10/5): Relaxing Break - Just got back from a few nights at the Byre. It was a beautiful property in a peaceful spot, perfect to relax and unwind.
The garden was a great secure space for the dogs.
A wonderful night's sleep in a very comfortable bed. Nothing
- Carolyn (10/5): -
- Alison (9/5): - Lovely cozy barn, beautiful setting That there was no pub or shop within walking distance.
- Gina (10/5): Perfect. - Fabulous private and peaceful setting. Great enclosed space which was wonderful for the dogs. Although fairly small it had absolutely everything we needed. Only thing that could have made the stay better was if it had been longer!
- Laura (9/5): -
- Guy (8/5): - Nice rustic old byre in an excellent peaceful location. Great secure garden if you have a dog, and nice walks on the doorstep - right out of drive and right again. A welcome pack and or some essentials would be nice, especially as a way away from nearest shop.
- Lorna (10/5): - Wifi and broadband upgrade since our last stay
Made such a difference Nothing to dislike
Though a small welcome pack of tea coffee biscuits would
Save the day for the unprepared
- Catherine (9/5): Lovely relaxing stay in a wonderful rural location but close to Shrewsbury - Private property in a Quiet rural location. Lovely garden - great Wi-Fi . Nice comfortable bed and soft bedding . Ideal for exploring local area . sofa was a bit tired and uncomfortable . Cushions dated.
- Kim (10/5): Delightful little place - ,
Very peaceful and delightful, beautiful setting , safe for our little dogs to run in the garden, The bed was very high, l am only 5ft tall struggled to get in it.
- Joel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kirkham (10/5): Exceptional -
- Carolyn (10/5): Lovely accommodation and location - Beautiful byre conversion, loved just sitting looking out of all the windows (at Storm Bert!). Underfloor heating very cosy on cold days. Nice location with walks on doorstep. Hopefully will return, in better weather!
- Marianne (10/5): Exceptional - Gorgeous little property, secluded and peaceful location. The perfect retreat.
- Maslin (10/5): A wonderful long weekend in a beautiful building in beautiful grounds. I would definitely recommend. - Such a beautiful building with lots of character, their conversion of a byre into a home is amazing. It had perfect facilities, very comfortable bed and sofabed. Lots of hot water. Near to Shrewsbury. Nothing, it was perfect.
- Shelley (7/5): Lovely but flies were a huge issue - you literally couldn’t sit with the patio doors open - I liked the design and layout. Flies everywhere
- Vicky (9/5): The Byre has all you need for a peaceful getaway - Peaceful secluded location, comfy and well equipped cottage, beautiful countryside, good secure garden Acces to car is a must to get out and about and make most of the countryside
- Jan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sue (10/5): Peaceful, comfortable stay in lovely surroundings. - We had a lovely stay at the Byre despite dodgy weather. It is really comfortable for a couple (and dog). Very private and surrounded by beautiful countryside for great walks. Nothing.
- Sharlee (7/5): Good -
- Sali (9/5): Superb -
- Brian (10/5): Gorgeous location. Very peaceful. - Idyllic location, very quiet and peaceful. The byre was clean and had everything we needed. Will definitely return.
- Jan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lorna (7/5): Our dogs loved it. - Left in peace no silly rules and interference Tv and wifi linked to abysmal broadband connection
No mobile signal
- Martha (9/5): Superb -
- Nick (9/5): Superb -
- Catherine (7/5): Good - Clean and everything you could need The bed was very high I'm 5'4 and the mattress level was above my waist
- Sian (10/5): We will definitely return, it was so perfect for the two of us and our gordon setter. - Peaceful setting, enclosed garden and fabulous barn, so well equipped. Perfect for visiting our daughter in Shrewsbury. Nothing to dislike.
- Susan (10/5): Exceptional - Well what an amazing little place . Just perfect for us and our dogs. Loved being able to open the doors in the morning and let the dogs wonder around the large enclosure . While we lied on the sofa bed watching movies . Well designed, clean and cosy . Will definitely be back .
- Samantha (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lori (6/5): Meh- wouldn’t stay again or recommend - Secluded location in a tiny hamlet and beautiful renovation. Walks nearby to take the dog Feel like they’d done a great job of the renovation of the building and then didn’t really care too much about looking after the people staying and enjoying it. Outside, the building has started to go black. There is an outdoor shelter that looks like they just throw everything in there from rusty knives to old furniture- we did stay in March so no sitting outside but could be kept tidy? Then inside, there was teabags but coffee and sugar were empty, that’s normally a standard that you get isn’t it? Then the hand wash had been watered down. The bathroom a little grimey. The sofa was a little uncomfortable as it’s a sofa bed. When arriving it was cold and the only source of heat is the underfloor heating, which we found takes several hours to heat up. It would have been nice to have that turned on for us as it definitely was needed, it was hardly warm outside. Even the visitor book was tatty and uncared for. No trays for the oven. A tiny bench to sit at the table. Comms with the owners too was just very cold and not very welcoming. So I wouldn’t stay again, it like they don’t really care.
- Janet (10/5): loved cottage , renovated to a very high standard. very clean and confortable. - the location was very quiet, which we loved. safe enclosed garden for dog. lovely views. very clean, comfy bed. would go back without hesitation. we would of liked a bin to put dog poo in when it had been picked up.
- Graham (9/5): Beautiful and tranquil spot - Pretty much everything. Accommodation, situation, cleanliness. Perfect for our dog, too. Only very minor gripe - no place mats or coasters.
- Joshua (10/5): Perfect weekend away - Beautiful building, very cosy and comfortable. Beautiful location and very peaceful
- Andrew (9/5): Very pleasant place to stay. Lovely rural location so quiet and peaceful. - Imaginatively restored farm property which was perfect for our needs. Enclosed garden and rural views. Well equipped and very comfortable.
- Alison (10/5): Fantastic little property, deep in the Shropshire countryside, but only 20 mins from Shrewsbury. - We weren't expecting to find a covered outside space (there had been no photos of it), but it was such a pleasure to be able to sit outside, even though it was raining! On a sunny day, the patio would have been fabulous. The garden was beautifully laid out and well kept. Everything was very dog-friendly. It was perfect for our needs. There was nothing to complain about.
- Hans (9/5): Perfect getaway for a couple with hounds! Highly recommended. Great hosts. - Not sure if I want to tell you how amazing this place was... in case we cannot get a booking! Perfect, peaceful getaway pad for a couple. The Byre is a long all-in-one property with the lounge at one end and the bedroom at the other. The whole South West facing wall is windows and glass doors. They all have blinds to protect from the sun and privacy in the evening, not that there is anyone but some sheep to look at you. The property has an enclosed and secure garden and parking and is dog-friendly. High walls and gate to keep them secure. The host's communication was great and very helpful. Perfect location for visiting and exploring the Shropshire Hills ANOB and Ludlow is close by too. Fabulous sunsets sitting on the big patio in the evening. Totally quiet at night and very private. Not too far from many good pubs and towns for self-catering if you want to. Nothing - perfect!
- Wojciech (10/5): Fantastic private place - It's a fantastic place, very private, own parking, own garden, possibility to have a barbecue. A bit difficult to find but only first time. Room was great, comfortable bed, all the facilities clean and equipped. Living room big and couch can be used as a comfortable bed. We've been mostly eating in the garden. Area around is good for walking and 5 min drive to The Lawley hills.
- Samantha (10/5): Wonderful Stay - Wonderful barn conversion, everything is there that you’d need, the shed is a lovely touch with more seating, large garden and large property with a great price and communication by host. Thank you and I’d definitely recommend. We had to put logs in front of the gate so our dogs didn’t get out that’s the only minor issue.
- Rachel (9/5): we had a lovely few days at the byre and wished we'd had longer there to explore the area more! - The wonderful peace and quiet of this location. All you could hear was the bleating of the sheep and the bird song.
It was very comfortable and well equipped .It was a very tasteful barn conversion and the garden was beautiful. Nothing to dislike about it.
A few very minor things like a few bits of equipment we felt were missing from the kitchen ,e.g, a baking tray ,a measuring jug and a pyrex dish to bake food in the oven would have been useful.
- Thomas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tracey (8/5): Wow…what a little gem to find! - Everything had been thought of. Very comfortable and welcoming. Nothing
- Abby (9/5): Overall it was exactly what we were looking for, for our long weekend. - Everything was there that we needed for our short break in terms of facilities. It was very comfortable and done out to a high standard. It was so quiet and relaxing and the garden space was beautiful. The only issue was the gate. We went with our dogs and there was a gap at the bottom that they could have easily got under. Plus a neighbouring dog came into the garden a couple of times and our dogs are reactive, but it wasn't a big problem as the other dog didn't stay long and we were vigilant with our dogs by the gate.
- Anonymous (10/5): Stunning - Stunning property with the most gorgeous outside area! Very well equipped. Bed very comfortable. Lots of outdoor furniture to sit on and watch the sheep in the field next door Honestly can’t fault our stay! We had the best weekend and would definitely return 😃
- Goold (9/5): Superb -
- Simon (10/5): If you are looking for a quiet relaxing place out in the countryside this could be it - The place had everything we needed and was so relaxing. Beautiful accommodation and location Everything was fantastic, zero complaints from us
- Lisa (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely peaceful place wasn't disturbed by anyone Just the gate my little dogs could get underneath so blocked it off with logs
- Carol (10/5): Just what I wanted and expected. I wish I could have stayed longer. - An idilic spot and perfect for 2 people. Everything you need. The Byre has been carefully and tastefully done. Lovely! Only the rain!
- Richard (10/5): Excellent stay in a beautiful converted cart shed. - Quiet and out of the way. Excellent scenery anx friendly sheep! Key was a problem to find and so was getting the key safe open. After that we were good to go.
- Toby (10/5): The property is located in a very quiet location - perfect for walks and is dog friendly. The property had everything yo -
- James (8/5): Very good -
- Gembo666 (10/5): Exceptional - So quiet
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lorna (7/5): loved it for the dogs - nice and peaceful sofa bed was uncomfortable
- Jones (10/5): Exceptional - Absolutely beautiful building, in a stunning quiet location.
The facilities were excellent, it was like cooking at home.
We would absolutely go back! To sit outside in the summer having a BBQ would be absolutely perfect.
Amazing weekend! Sofa bed was quite uncomfortable and the shower wasn't ideal. A large kink in the shower hose, so when you raised the shower head the flow of water stopped.
- Charlotte (10/5): Beautiful setting, lovely cosy property. - The location is beautiful, the property itself is so lovely and cosy, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The big, high bed is just fab. My toddler slept better than she ever does at home! I wish it had been warmer so we could have sat outside and enjoyed the view.
Felt very private despite the surrounding properties which was nice.
We went for dinner at The Riverside Inn which was amazing and the food was fantastic.
Would return in the warmer months to enjoy the outside! Our only complaint is that there were a few creepy crawlies who also enjoyed the Byre! Nothing major for us but my daughter was a big frightened when she spotted one!
Also, the heating was a little tricky to work out on the first night but we managed to solve it the next day.
- Adam (10/5): perfect for what we wanted, would recommend - peaceful surroundings, dog friendly, amazing views and spacious byre the hot water after 10ish minutes but it didnt really bother us or effect our stay as we had other ways of getting hot water there kettle/hob ect
- Bud (10/5): Exceptional - clean and has everything we needs
- Kristianne (5/5): Cold but pretty! - The location was lovely and the property itself was tastefully furnished. The bed was also very comfy! When we arrived it was absolutely freezing, the bedroom was 5 degrees! We put the heating on and it started to warm up in the afternoon the next day but didn’t reach a comfortable temp until the morning we were checking out where it had finally climbed to 15 degrees. I slept with two pairs of pyjamas and a jumper on as it was so cold. This really put a dampener on the trip as we just couldn’t get warm and I developed a cold when leaving. I did message the host who was helpful with recommending places to eat etc but with the heating, this could have been avoided if it had been turned on prior to the trip. Underfloor heating takes a while to heat up. There were also cobwebs in the bedroom and we kept finding ants in the living room and on the kitchen side!!
- Naveen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Simone (9/5): Superb - Setting and surroundings
- Aimee (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (10/5): Beautiful accommodation. Will definitely use again and have passed on details to friends and family - The property was clean and tidy
Also the opportunity to have a 3 course meal cooked and delivered from the lady/chef next door who runs a catering business for a very reasonable £15/head
In all we were able to totally kick back and relax
- Joanne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Calum (8/5): Great, cosy and stylish hideaway in the countryside. - The location is lovely. Tucked away, cosy, quiet and pleasant. We only had one night as we were travelling onwards but would be idea for a few more days. Comfy bed, hot water, lots of light and really cool stonework and beams inside which catch your eye. All the amenities needed and well equipped, stylishly so too! If pushed. The sofa/sofa bed was not one for laying up on for a cosy evening in. But that really is being fussy.
- Tracy (10/5): Beautiful perfect retreat - Beautiful place, peaceful, excellent facilities, great value for money
