Guest Reviews
- Britta (9/5): Lovely Italien vibe, and a super host - Fantastisk, even such a old place it was so beautifully remodelled to great standard. So authentic. Have nothing to complain about;)
- Sandra (9/5): Loved the corner apartment views to the street. Great block - restaurants and architecture. - Location was great. Loved the architecture of the building and the space has great character. Bathroom shower faucet difficult to hold in place. No convenient place to place shower toiletries.
- Elizabeth (10/5): Wonderful stay - Location Nothing
- David (8/5): Fantastic apartment and area to stay in and close to many main sites and Rome is just a wonderful city. Wished we’d stay - The apartment is in a fabulous location and is based in a traditional block which makes it feel more local. There are a great range of restaurants, cafes and bars on the doorstep and the surrounding area. It is also within walking distance of many of the main sites in the city. It is spacious and was ideal for 3 adults with two double beds and a sofa bed. The kitchen had all we needed and the bathroom was comfortable and clean. The host, Walter, was really friendly and gave us lots of tips on places to visit and how to travel back to the airport. It’s an old apartment so may not suit everyone but it was absolutely fine for us.

- Francesco (8/5): Enjoyed the stay. - Location Air conditioning could be better
- Melissa (7/5): Beautiful and convenient place for a family of 5 to stay, just would not go back in the hot summer months - Beautiful, historic apartment in a cute neighborhood, close to all the big sightseeing areas. Host was very attentive and easy to reach Lack of adequate air conditioning, it was 99-100 degrees when we were there and there was little relief when returning to the apartment. The units there do little to cool the place down unless you’re standing in front of it. And you can’t have fans running at the same time. Made it very uncomfortable and hard to sleep with that heat. There are also quite a lot of stairs to the apartment which may be difficult for some people especially bringing up
Luggage. Just should be aware.
- Vladimir (8/5): -
- Laiken (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vivienne (9/5): Short but sweet. Do not expect anything modern, this is Rome - The location was walking distance from all the important sites Only 3 coffee mugs for 4 people. My husband was disturbed by the night noise. The rest of us was not affected. Walter helped me to find my fabric store !!!
- Jane (8/5): Interesting old building. Great location.A bit high priced a bare minimum experience - We loved the central location near stores and restaurants. Beds were comfortable. Unexpectedly thin windows! For a quiet neighborhood we could hear the people in the café downstairs and next door chatting late. The price for the linens was very high (30€ for 2 towels and 1 hand towel). Bare minimum on amenities. You may better off in a hotel. An FYI: Pay attention to Italy’s “green” regulations and heat if the heat is gas powered. They only let you run the heat for 7-8 hrs a day. Walter’s place was cold at first. We had been in Italy for 3 weeks and never had a restriction until this place. The weather was oldly cold and those stone walls hold the cold
- Andy (10/5): Exceptional - Walter is an exceptional host and went above and beyond. The apartment is located in one of the most beautiful areas of Rome and the same can be said for the apartment, absolutely 10/10 !!! I would highly recommend that for anyone visiting Rome, to book and stay in Walters place.
- Rob (8/5): Great - Lovely ancient apartment in great area. More toilet paper for 5 people. Shower needs changing.
- Volpato (10/5): Exceptional - great position in the heart of Trastevere, easy to reach and close to all main Rome attraction. The host has been really kind and helpful in giving us all the necessary information
- Anthony (10/5): Trip of a lifetime. - The apartment was rustic and very comfortable. The location was excellent. Lots of good restaurants in the neighborhood. Very centrally located (within 30 minutes of walking) to all of the top sites to visit in Rome. Our host, Walter, was great. Easy to work with and made our stay exceptional. Next trip to Rome we will book our trip around the availability of this apartment! Early morning garbage collection. Very noisy.
- Anthony (10/5): Centrally located with many good restaurants within walking distance. Our host was very friendly. -
- Robert (8/5): Great location with lots of bars and restaurants very close by. The 404 bar next door is great. - Everything was great. A couple of small things to note for Walter. Shower head needs attention. It was only possible to use as a hand-held shower. The bidet needs some attention. The water is spraying out when tap is turned. It would be nice to have an extra guest hand towel for general use in the bathroom. There was absolutely nothing we disliked.
- Janssens (10/5): The most lovely , mesmerizing and totally spotless warm cocooningplace in Rome. SUPERBE -
- Jemima (9/5): Fantastic cool and fun! - Beautiful presentation
Clear communication of space and facilities
A very kind host who met us and was very helpful when our train was delayed by 3 hours and affected our check in.
Great location for unique experience- lively and close to amenities and interesting spaces like the Sunday market Walter did everything he could to make our stay comfortable - if we didn’t like anything- this was outside of Walter’s power - eg there are two bars nearby which are open late and a bit noisy but again we could have check this out prior to our reservation!
- Vladimir (7/5): It was great. The apartment was very authentic. Walter is a nice host and very helpful. - There was no internet on the WiFi network. We had mobile connection from our phones, so we survived, but the reception wasn't great for some reason.
- Lance (10/5): A family of six stayed at the appartment and it felt very comfortable, a great location to walk the sights of Rome. - Great location, and a cosy feel, great place to stay, definitely stay here again. Overall a great place to stay and can’t find too many negatives.
- Kelly (9/5): Superb - Lots of character and charm in this spacious rental. The brick was beautiful and everything worked well. The beds were comfortable as well. The kitchen is fairly small, but functional. It did not take long to walk to many of the attractions in Rome, so it was a convenient location. If you're taking the bus, there are stops close by. There was a pipe leak in the building while we were there, so we were contacted multiple times about when we'd be out of the rental so they could access it for repairs. Of course these emergencies happen and are unavoidable, but we would have appreciated a partial rental fee refund since we were asked to check out a couple of hours early if possible. We were offered breakfast, but we had very heavy packs with us that were hard to lug around so we just headed to the train station.
- Mark (10/5): Great stay in Rome - Great restored apartment is fantastic area
The restaurant across the treet is fantastic. Make reservations. Really can't complain it is a second floor walk up a true Roman experience.
- Samuel (9/5): Great stay in rome - Walter was a very accommodating host and allowed us to check in early at no extra charge due to the earlier guest leaving a little earlier than expected. The house is located in a perfect sport for exploring all that Rome has to offer. There are many great local restaurants in the Trastevere area and the river nearby with lots of bars, restaurants and carnival games scattered along. The beds in the apartment were comfortable and the space in the house was very nice and with 'old style fashion'. I would recommend Walters house to anyone looking for a great place to stay in Rome.
- Senem (1/5): Bad - Location is fantastic The owner is a very confrontational person. We were a group of people there, American and Italian. The first thing the Italian friends told me was how he was not reporting the 200 euros he charged us for the sheets and tourist tax to the Italian IRS. No receipt was given to us for that charge and it was all after the booking was complete. Our first night, in 40 degree celcius temperatures, the electricity went out. Only in that unit in the entire building. It was a hot and rough night as one can imagine! The first thing the owner did in the morning was to yell at me for messaging him at night to report it! STAY AWAY! There are so many fabulous places around. I can already see him responding to this review with remarks of me what an ungrateful person I am and that itself should tell you everything you need to know about this place and this person. STAY AWAY!
- Monica (9/5): Superb -
- Bridget (9/5): Charming and welcoming home and neighborhood right across the river from Rome’s highlights. - Loads of character and right in the heart of Trastevere. A very short walk has you across the Tiber River and in the heart of Rome. Trastevere was a reprieve from the bustle across the river, but still had restaurants at every turn. The host was very responsive.
- Erwin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pieter (10/5): Top! - Super service from our host. We forgot keys and a wallet and he found and sent us everything by post. Good tips also for restaurants in the neighbourhood. Good breakfast next door. Great restaurant opposite the appartement.
- Elizabeth (8/5): Very enjoyable - Location and organisation.
- Emilia (10/5): Absolutely incredible! - We loved the location, it was right in the middle of a vibrant part of time with loads of restaurants. It was such a treat to stay in such an old building, which has been renovated to be comfortable whilst still maintaining the character and history.
- H. (8/5): Great location, bathroom not in line w/ apartment - Location is sincerely great. You're in the heart of Trastevere with great food and drinks around the corner.
It's a lovely apartment, it is obvious the owner cares a great deal about the apartment, it really shows. One thing I think the owner could improve on is the shower. The space itself is fine and decoration lovely. But, 1) the water runs from hot to cold and back again within minutes, whether you are the first to shower or the last, making it impossible to take a relaxed shower. I appreciate the building, pipes and plumbing are old, but maybe an investment could be made to benefit the guests. 2) Upon arrival, when we got the tour of the place, I noticed the shower head was on the shower floor, but I thought nothing of it. Turned out the holder was broken, so you had to hold the shower head in your hand to be able to use it. Combined with the water not holding a steady temperature, this was not ideal. And quite an easy thing to fix, I think.
Lastly, charging 90 euros for common bed linnen (3 beds) feels like profiteering, I don't know how else to describe it.
- Jen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sara (3/5): Poor -
- Andrew (10/5): Exceptional - Location is excellent walking distance to the heart of Trastevere . Plenty of beautiful eating choices for all tastes on your doorstep . Tram ,metro, and taxis again all within 5 min . Also if you did want to cook the apartment has all the equipment you need and the cleaning equipment. Walter was an excellent host meeting us on arrival ,arranging taxis to and from the airport. Kept in touch from booking to departure
- Tim (9/5): Wonderful apartment in amazing Trastevere - Fabulous apartment in a lovely location. So many cafes and restaurants but away from the hustle and bustle on the other side of the river. It's a bit noisy at night. Nothing wrong with that but you need to be prepared. Cooking facilities are a bit limited, but the cafes around mean it's not much of a bother. Shower could be better. That aside, it's great.
- Lisa (7/5): Good -
- David (7/5): Nice apartment in a good location - Location - easy to get to best attractions. 10-15 min walk to hop-on/off tour busses.
Beautiful classical old accommodation with great character
The host was very nice and is easily contactable via whats app - he will be flexible where possible and gave us some good information regarding local amenities. Some of the appliances didn't work. Nothing to be a show-stopper, but perhaps needs a little more attention to small details.
The description shows "Towels and bed linen are provided in the apartment." - but you need to search the fine print to see there's a 30EU charge for each set. This is the first time it's happened for me, so it came as a surprise. There's also a tourist tax which may not be obvious to those travelling to Italy for the first time. Both of these need to be paid in cash when you arrive. It's not the cost, but I think these things should be listed along with the price displayed and be very clear before paying for your stay. I don't like hidden costs.
- Vivien (9/5): Gorgeous House Trastevere was the perfect place for us to explore Rome. - The location was perfect as everything we wanted to see was in walking distance. There were restaurants close by and also a supermarket. We loved the area.
The apartment was very comfortable and had everything we needed. Walter was excellent with communication and met us at the door when we arrived. We were four adults and two children. We would definitely return.
- Jane (8/5): Very good - Walter is a great host. Excellent communication and helpful. The bar underneath was an added bonus The apartment didn't come with linen and had to pay an extra 60 euro
- Caroline (10/5): A beautiful historical apartment, in a quiet corner of Rome, conveniently placed near Rome’s historic centre. - The position is fantastic and the building is a beautiful, historical apartment. Nothing.
- Vlad (1/5): The most terrible experience of my life! - Stay away! Didn't like anything. Everything is terrible. Even the location doesn't help! Firstly, the owner of the apartment is engaged in unfair competition - bed linen and towels are not included in the price! The owner requires an additional 30 euros for the set, which for our family of 4 was about 100 euros! Thus, his price on Booking.com is actually more expensive than what he shows when booking.
Secondly, he is a rude and unpleasant person. He demanded us to pay extra for the bed, we refused, then he just took all the bedding and left the beds empty and was very rude to us. He also demanded that we take out the garbage.
Thirdly and most importantly, his apartment is infected with insects! The beds in the bedrooms are full of bed bugs and the sofa in the hall is full of ants! My kids didn't sleep for two nights, and neither did I. We were bitten by bed bugs, there was no living place on our legs! We caught a few bed bugs and took pictures. In addition to this, the house is very hot, despite the old-fashioned air conditioners, which are terribly loud and almost not cool.
The climax of this story was that we simply booked another hotel and moved for the remaining 2 nights. We complained to the owner. But in response, we received rudeness. He did not refund the money for the two nights we were not actually at his house. He refused to officially refund Booking.com as well.
I was offered to go to the police about this owner, and believe me, he deserves it. But I had neither the time nor the inclination to spend on it. In any case - do not book this terrible accommodation, do not ruin your holiday.
- Di (7/5): Good -
- Tiffany (8/5): Very good - Lovely area in Rome, the host was lovely very informative and responsive. The house was gorgeous like the name. 2 good size bedrooms, dining and lounge area, kitchen good. Its up alot of stairs but worth it being above the night life of trastevere, and the river nighttime markets. Short walk across the river to lots of ruins. Thanks Walter! Might be hot in summer - was ok in June with a cool breeze at night with the window open
- Kingsbury (10/5): Lovely place in a lovely spot! - Very cute apartment and the location is just great! In Trastevere but not in the main hub, and close to all city attractions! Had all the facilities you could need. We came during a heatwave and I think most airconditioners would struggle in 40 degrees in an old building - that's really the only thing. Everything else was wonderful!
- Jade (9/5): Loved our stay in trav, stone throw away from Rome. Loved the eating places surrounding the accom. - Great location to local bakeries and Italian restaurants. Also a stone throw away from centre of Rome and visitor hotspots. Very hot and aircon did not cool entire place. Flat pillows and flat mattresses.
- Joseph (9/5): Superb -
- Negri (8/5): A unique stay - Beautiful and antique. Well located in a beautiful part of the city. Has a washing machine. Mattresses were too thin. The detachable shower head wouldn’t stay put.
- Debra (9/5): la dolce vita in trastevere! - gorgeous!
- Elisabeth (10/5): lovely stay - We had a lovely stay at this apartment. It was great to be in Travestere, away from the major hustle and bustle of Rome's sights but still very well located - about a 15-20 minute walk from major sites, and in a part of Travestere that was relatively quiet but still filled with good restaurants and nice shops. Walter was great to communicate with throughout. We were traveling as a family of 3 adults and the apartment was very comfortable for a group of our size. linen rental felt somewhat expensive (60 euros for 2 beds for a 3 night stay)
- Michael (5/5): totally overpriced - picture staged. shower dirty. hot water biker failed twice. no soap just leftovers from previous customers. one Toilette paper. pricing not transparent
- Amber (10/5): Quintessential, comfortable and central Roman apartment - Very comfortable historic apartment right in the center of Trastevere, with great restaurants and monuments all very close. Walter was a fantastic host. Helpful that it has a washing machine and amenities in the kitchen and bathroom. Our family of 4 loved our stay and would certainly return!
- James (8/5): Nice apartment but read the terms and view the pictures carefully to keep from being surprised. - The room was nicely appointed and there were a lot of restaurants and activities surrounding the booking. The host was quick to respond to inquiry Though the room was two bedrooms, the wall that split the rooms was there for privacy only as it did not go all the way up to the ceiling. Additionally, we had to pay 60 extra Euro to have linen and towels. Lastly, the room only came with one roll of toilet paper.
- John (5/5): Passable -
- James (9/5): A great location on the calmer side of Trastevere. Perfect as a base from be which to explore the city and great to retu - Great location, comfortable and with great character.
- Denise (10/5): A pleasure to come to our house each evening . - Fabulous neighborhood and short walking distance to many Roman ruins and famous sites. Food markets and restaurants at your doorstep .
- Scott (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (9/5): Superb - Lovely, quaint apartment in a beautiful part of Rome, with lovely local restaurants and cafes close by. I found the bed really comfortable, which is not always the case in rental apartments.
- Jane (8/5): Great characterful apartment in great location - The apartment is stunning and in an amazing location, our favourite area in Rome. There was some street noise but not late.
- Brian (9/5): We had the most amazing short break celebrating our son’s 18th birthday. The apartment is beautiful. - Walter messaged us regularly to check our arrival time and how our journey was going. He was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the area and the local restaurants. He was available if we needed him but also left us to enjoy our time in his beautiful apartment.
- Sarah (10/5): you won’t regret this location or property. Will definitely stay again when visiting Rome! - absolutely beautiful and comfortable space!
- Irene (10/5): Exceptional - This is a 14th century apartment in a great location. Walter gave us the best restaurant recommendation, Ercoli, best meal in Rome!
- Lisa (10/5): Could not have chosen a better place! - Perfect spot to start and end our Italy vacation! Location in Trastevere so charming! Excellent places to eat & enjoy wine right outside the apartment. Walter host/owner most helpful in every way. An easy enjoyable walk over the bridge takes you the Jewish Ghetto & over to see all the amazing sites of incredible Roma!
- Gps (10/5): Exceptional - The location was perfect! Close to all the wonderful sites in Rome, and delicious food everywhere. The apartment was very clean and very special. Walter was a fabulous host with many great recommendations!
- Lisa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mark (10/5): poetic, lovely, comfortable - beautiful and very well supplied with what is needed.
- Sam (10/5): Exceptional - simple, clean and close to lots of nice restaurants
