Guest Reviews
- Carol (10/5): Authentic Pura Vida - Vocare is the perfect location for visiting other areas in the Guanacaste region. Much nicer to stay at this quiet and beautiful location and take day trips (there is much to do and see within easy driving range), rather than pack up and move every day. The Host, Ernesto, could not have been more pleasant or helpful. He speaks fluent English, so there is no problem with communication. He is happy to help you plan where to go and what to see in the area. It is best to rent a 4x4 as some of the roads are not paved. Our cabin was large, clean and very comfortable. There was one room with a double bed and a bunk bed, and a separate room with a double bed. One of the best things about staying at Vocare is feeling like you are a guest, not merely a tourist staying at tourist lodgings. There are only two cabins, which are far apart enough to offer privacy. If I return to the Guanacaste region of Costa Rica, Vocare is the only place I would consider staying. It is far superior to the other places I stayed on my recent vacation in Costa Rica, and the least expensive, too. If you are looking for a place to stay with a lively restaurant/bar scene where you can mingle with lots of other tourists, Vocare is not for you. If you want to stay somewhere that is immersed in nature where you can explore the grounds, see wonderful birds/wildlife and simply relax and enjoy your surroundings, then Vocare is where you should stay. Truly, I cannot say enough to convey how wonderful it is to stay at Vocare and experience the true Costa Rica, not the tourist Costa Rica. I can't think of anything that could be improved, except perhaps coffee that is not so strong with breakfast. It was much to strong for my American taste!
- Ian (10/5): Wow! amazing location and hosts that are inspiring and so hospitable. Thank you! - Amazing host, passionate about his farm and wonderful projects, had a guided tour and loved every second of my stay. Highly recommend this as a unique insight into something very different and decent! So much wildlife.
- Danilov (10/5): Amazing stay! - From the moment we arrived, the host made us feel completely at home — warm, welcoming, and genuinely caring. It didn’t feel like a stay, it felt like being part of something real.
The tour was absolutely amazing — so much knowledge, passion, and connection to nature. You can really feel the purpose behind everything they do.
And the breakfast… WOW. Easily one of the best we’ve had — fresh, delicious, and made with so much love.
This place is not just accommodation — it’s an experience.
Peaceful, authentic, and unforgettable.Highly recommend to anyone who wants more than just a hotel — this is where you reconnect with nature and yourself.

Desconexion total. Volvería sin dudarlo. Pura vida Ernesto!!!!
- vittorio (10/5): Posto magico - Posto magico! Cabina in legno totalmente immersa nella natura. Proprietario estremamente cordiale e simpatico.
- Xinqi (10/5): The most unique stay! - The finca was a working farm and conservation effort combined. Ernesto's enthusiasm about food sustainability and wild life conservation was truly infectious. He showed us his food forests and his ongoing conservation efforts. He and his family also generously shared meals with us, cooked with ingredients from the gardens. We had a great stay and learned a lot from them! It was our most unique stay in Costa Rica. Nothing!
- nadine.echner (10/5): Absolutely amazing stay with the most welcoming host - Staying at Finca Vocare was one of the most special experiences of our entire Costa Rica trip. This place is truly authentic and deeply connected to nature.
Ernesto and his wife are incredibly warm, welcoming, and genuine hosts who make you feel at home from the very first moment. Ernesto even gave us a free two-hour tour of his land, passionately explaining his projects, his sustainable agriculture, and his efforts to protect the local nature and ecosystem. It wasn’t just a tour — it was an inspiring insight into Costa Rican life, values, and respect for the land.
The finca is beautifully located right in the middle of nature, surrounded by forest, wildlife, and pure tranquility. If you are looking for luxury resorts, this is not it — but if you want to experience the real Costa Rican vibe, meet amazing people, and truly learn about the country, this place is perfect.
It’s the kind of place that makes you slow down, reconnect, and honestly… it’s hard to leave.
We highly recommend Finca Vocare to anyone who wants an authentic, meaningful, and unforgettable stay in Costa Rica.
- Serafina (10/5): - we had a wonderful stay! Ernesto is the friendliest Person We met in Costa Rica. He took his time to recommend us places to go and showed us his property. We learned so much about his Farm, the animals and plants. Also his wife and everyone else working there were very nice and forthcoming. The cabin is surrounded by nature, was clean and spacious. There are a few dogs, but all friendly. Breakfast was great as well as dinner. Wished we could have stayed longer.
Man darf daher keine deutsche Reinlichkeit erwarten.
Niks!
- Peggy (10/5): Very educational. Great staff. - The beauty. The purpose for the facility. Teaching the less fortunate how to farm and become self sufficient.
- Kuznietsova (10/5): Amazing cozy place to stay - Absolutely perfect! Host is very kind, all staff were really good. Breakfast was delicious! I was really happy to stay there!!!
- Charles (10/5): Very cool!! - The enviroment and the staff! Great memory!
- James (10/5): A wonderful gem in the jungle. - Señor Ernesto has created a wonderful retreat on his family farm. We traveled over miles of rocky roads to this hidden out-of-way Eden and enjoyed two nights of great conversation with Ernesto and fabulous food from his farm. It does not get any more “Farm to Table” than this! If you are longing for a quiet retreat in the jungle, great people and delicious food, go out of your way to stay here. We travel and stay in Costa Rica for three to four months each year and this will be a definite annual visit.
Vocare Finca is a model of sustainable tourism and farming. Ernesto has reforested half of his hundreds of acres that were once grassland for cattle. If you are interested in ground level land stewardship this is a must visit. It’s a rough road. Be ready for some bumps. SUV or 4 wheel drive is recommended.
- Mattias (10/5): Magic✨ - What a magic little secret space😀. Superfriendly staff. YOU NEED TO BRING MOSKITO NET! Yes according to the manager the rooms are mosquito proof, but if so, you can not leave a gap of 1dm at the roof with no mosquitonet! We got soo many bites
- Rick (10/5): Super magical place! - The river is the best! Thanks!
- Steve (10/5): Delightful Sustainable farm experience - Ernesto, the owner and host was absolutely excellent. Kind, informative and spoke excellent English. He gave us a walking tour of his property highlighting the sustainable aspects of how he has transformed this typical farm he bought into a working sustainable ecosystem.
We stayed in one of their cabins with comfortable beds and private bath. The window openings are well screened so we enjoyed the sounds of the tropical forest birds.
Absolutely delightful experience for both of us!
Food was local and delicious! The only unfortunate thing was that we didn't have more time to enjoy there!
- Simon (10/5): If you want to learn about Costa Rica it’s wildlife & so much more stay here. - Earnesto & his family have the most interesting property & are doing wonderful things for the wildlife & environment. Clean rooms. The river swim a highlight. It was hot and do have mossie repellent / net with you.
- Simona (10/5): Thank you for a great visit and best of luck with your projects! - The host was very welcoming and made all efforts to insure our comfort. He offered us home cooked meal, a swim in the river and a personalized visit of his numerous great projects. It was a pleasure to talk with him! Nothing. At the time of our visit, the Booking site had a problem with Visa payment, no fault of host!
- Clement (10/5): Charming place Pura Vida vibe - Ernesto the host and the vibe of the place. The story behind the place is heart warming and gives you positive feelings. The hidden river is a must, you can swim and chill in the middle of the nature. Ernesto helped us a lot, gave us explanations about animals around and place to visit. He even gave us advices about the best itinerary to take to go on our next stop. Lovely place, kind person, touching encounter.
- Christian (10/5): Thank you for the special experience. - First of all a big big thank you to Ernesto an Leslie, the owners of Vocaré, who made this wonderful and special experience so marvelous.
From the first minute we felt like visiting friends, such a warm welcome for us and our two kids. Our kids loved the dogs (9), pigs, chicken and bats😉
Ernesto and Leslie made a super delicious breakfast with fruits from their garden.
The Dinner was a dream, fresh smoothies with fruits from the trees next to you, vegetables from the garden and the best fish I have eaten.
Ernesto and Leslie I told you, I will be back just to have dinner with you😉
The river next to Vocaré is so nice. We went swimming in the river, there is kind of a pool, also our daughter (5) could swim there on here own.
All in one, one of our best experiences in our Costa Rica holidays.
- Oconnor (10/5): Exceptional - It was a taste of paradise
- Jeff (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andrew (8/5): You will be staying on a family eco farm, not a posh hotel. Chill and have a dip in the river. - This a eco project, run by a farming family that are passionate about the local community and environment. Essential basic chalets and student accomidation around a brilliant kitchen and shared relaxation area. Food excellent. You go to sleep listening to howler monkey's. Do not forget a
mosquito net. This is a rainy region. Come prepared.
- Matej (3/5): Poor -
- Anastasia (10/5): Exceptional - It was amazing experience for our family. I wish we could stay longer, there is a lot to do and explore at Ernesto's farm. Wild nature, amazing views, a lot of animals made our stay really exclusive. We definetly recommend this place to all people who want to expirience real and wild Costa Rica!
Thanks to Ernesto and his wife for so much fun!
- Neza (10/5): Exceptional - Ernesto really exceeded our expectations. The hospitality was unforgetable. We got to know the farm and its surroundings and got a lot of infirmation abot Costarician agriculture, politics... The tradicional food was delicious. This stay was a big surprise. We felt very welcome! /
- Douglas (8/5): nice place far out in the countryside - very friendly hosts; spacious rooms; nice shower; quiet location; nice dinner road access if using GPS is awful (10 miles of extremely rutted roads); must instead access via a main road; wifi was very unreliable, and only in the eating area
- Pdxclimateer (8/5): Creative Glamping with a fantastic host - Ernesto, for us, was the highlight of our experience on the farm. His passion, his personality, his vision, his openness, and his interest and willingness to teach and show us the farm and what's possible for the future made the whole experience truly worth the drive. We learned so much and really enjoyed our time with him... Not to mention the farm to table dinner that he made available to us if we were interested (for only $8!), the cold, fresh coconut water he gave us right before we left, the star fruit he picked for us, the cacao pods he opened for us...it was all really special.
We also REALLY liked the rock walls of the bathroom in the 'cabin', as well as the sink design... Very creative and natural. We hadn't realized that it would be a mostly open cabin with no glass windows (only screens). This made for (somewhat) moist sheets in the rainy season.
The mattresses on the double beds especially were also much too soft for us.
Definitely buggy and warm outside in the mornings in the rainy season ...
- Paul (10/5): Ernesto and Leslie are fantastic hosts who can tell you a lot about the local nature and people. - Great location, fantastic host, very nice traditional breakfast Nothing
