Guest Reviews
- Priti (5/5): Has potential but a fair way to go still. - Location
Parking for two vehicles facilitated.
Host was available by email/phone and through the booking.com message service. - There were only 2 bath towels when we had booked for 3 adults.
- There was no kettle in the kitchen.
- There were only 2 tea/coffee mugs.
- No tea towels in the kitchen.
- No corkscrew.
- No towel in the bathroom.
- Only one (not full) toilet roll (we had to make a trip to the local Tesco express early morning to purchase more).
- No toiletries (and when asked only received a shower gel, no shampoo - it’s sold on booking.com as having free toiletries).
- Bathroom and shower cubicle had hair and dust, shower glass had water stains.
- Bathroom mirror was smeared.
- Dirt balls on the floor in living room/kitchen and bedroom.
- No sheets for the sofa bed, only pillows and duvet - which smelt of stale cigarettes.
- Not convinced the sheets in the bedroom had been washed after they were last used, they did not smell fresh and there was hair in the beds.
- Perhaps not the fault of the host but the adjoining flats were partying until at least 5.30am, with loud music, doors banging and general noise, making it impossible to sleep. There was also a cannabis smell seeping through and present in the hallway in the morning. This particular property is shown on the website to disallow such parties, it can be assumed the neighbouring flats would have a similar policy.
The positive was that the host was available on the phone for things like the wifi, heating and toiletries but none of these should have required a call and information should have been available, and I did not understand why we had to wait until later in the evening for the lack of towels/toiletries to be rectified (we were told the cleaner was coming from Oxford!).
But given the state of the bathroom, we all took the decision not to shower there.
- Martin (10/5): great stay - everything nothing
- Susie (6/5): Ok experience; a hotel offers better hospitality for the same money. - Well located, modern apartment, with good facilities and fittings, on site parking and customer service that picked up when called. It did the job we needed. - the attention to detail wasn’t there - it felt like it was being run as a property investment rather than a hospitality business, so various things that really make a difference for a good stay weren’t dealt with:
1) we didn’t receive arrival instructions, and the confirmation info on Booking.com was wrong. It took three phone calls, all with partial information - bearing in mind it was cold and dark and I had a tired 6yo and luggage - to park the car, get the keys, find the entrance and get in. To the guy’s credit he did answer but it could have been handled much better.
2) there was no info on how to access the wifi or turn the heating on. And the flat’s in the basement so signal was patchy and it was cold. The heating did work well once we figured it out.
3) the loo and sink were dirty! The flat had been cleaned, but in a hurry, so things (like under the seat, behind the taps) had been missed.
4) The towel rail had only been partially secured to the wall. The shower screen didn’t actually keep much water in the shower. And all the bedding was synthetic rather than cotton so it felt cheap. It just felt like it had been done cheaply.
