Guest Reviews
- Tom (9/5): Beautiful location, excellent views, would definitely visit again. - The property is located at the top of a hill and has beautiful views of the surrounding areas, the room was clean, stylish and too our taste & well presented, the bed was very comfortable & there was plenty of room for luggage. The en-suite was well presented the shower was amazing, found the temperature in the room comfortable. Outside was a bench that we sat at whilst watching the sun set. Added bonus we had Sky tv, WiFi was excellent. If I had to be really picky the breakfast could of had an option for intolerances.
- Redmond (10/5): -
- Justin (10/5): - Good location for where we were going - lovely room with a great ensuite. Bed is comfortable and breakfast supplies were adequate.
- Teresa (9/5): - The property was excellent. It was very comfortable, super clean, and had everything we needed.
- Maria (10/5): - Everything was perfect, great breakfast options and the room and bathroom were great
- Pornpawit (9/5): - The room was spacious and comfortable, and having a private car park was very convenient. While the breakfast could have been fresher, there was a good variety of options to start the day. The heating system operates on a fixed schedule and cannot be adjusted by guests. It would be much better if there was more flexibility to control the room temperature according to personal preference.
- Keith (10/5): Quiet out of the way stay - Wonderful quiet location. Danielle was a great hostess. Everything was comfortable and organized N/a

- Tessa (10/5): - La host era molto gentile e disponibile.
Stanza pulita e accogliente.

- Ana Rita (9/5): - The location was great.
Breakfast was very good and varied!
The host was amazing, very nice and attentive.
The room was nice, comfortable and clean N/A

- David (10/5): Wonderful place with a comfortable bed and beautiful view, very conveniently located. - New and clean, and it was a great location! Breakfast was supposed to be refreshed the next day and it wasn't sadly.
- Mary Beth (9/5): I am happy I booked this room. It was beautiful and a gorgeous neighborhood to walk around - The room was very comfortable, modern. The bathroom and shower were nice. The breakfast area, variety of breakfast choices, and refrigerator was perfect. Plenty of storage. The best part was the view.
As others have stated, the shower could use a place for toiletries. Also noted, was the suggestion for a bistro table instead of the desk. That would have been nicer to allow us to eat breakfast on a table not on the bed. It also provides the ability to enjoy the view while having breakfast. I just pulled the chair up to the window to enjoy the view. Many of the other suggestions previous to our stay had been addressed. I was not impressed with the communication. The directions to the home worked, and were much needed. I had asked a few questions after booking about the area, but I did not get a response. When we arrived at the home there was no one there, I expected the family. Even the next day there was no one, until late in the day when someone came home. We later learned there was an extenuating situation, but communication would have been good. Just a reminder guests should park as close to the home as possible. I did the first night, but since no one had been around I didn't the second and after 8:00 pm I was asked to move my car.
As others have noted that you can hear the family very well, but remember they can hear you as well. Since we were alone in the home most of the time it was not an issue. However I suggest ear plugs if you are a light sleeper. Especially since there is a new born in the house now as well. The sheep in the area also like to wake you, we did not mind the Bahhhhs...but others might.

- Sandra (9/5): Fabulous stay in a beautiful area, close to Portree but feels a long way away with a sense of local life. Loved it! - Loved the property, room at front of family home, stunning views, 10 mins from Portree. The bed and shower were the best I experienced in my time in Scotland.Danielle the host was fantastic, balanced with friendliness, being there is needed but also respecting privacy. One improvement, as others have mentioned would be replacing dresser in bedroom with a small table for breakfast etc.. I had great weather and sat outside in sunshine for breakfast admiring the view - however in different weather inside you only have the bed.
And better directions as others have mentioned. I found street didn’t come up on google maps, but did on car navigation. It’s just past a church coming from Portree. An old tracker is opposite driveway is the best landmark.
This isn’t a dislike, but manage your expectation the room is part of a family home, and local homes surrounding, so sometimes there might be minor noise occasionally. Added to charm for me, but maybe not for everyone.
- Maureen (10/5): Excellent stay - Breakfast was plentiful and a beautiful location
- Leendert (10/5): Exceptional - Beautifull location, very friendly owner!
- Thomas (6/5): Overpriced compared with similar accommodation. - Bed was comfortable. The room was too small considering breakfast had to be eaten in the cramped area. The drench shower is an overkill and not very practical. There were no grab handles in the shower and the floor of the shower was slippery with no mat. Not ideal for a couple in their mid eighties
Noise from the family next door could not be completely shut out.
Facilities to prepare breakfast were poor (very little surface space) and a hot breakfast of any type could not be prepared.
- Christine (8/5): Excellent for a one night stay - Lovely location.
Very comfortable bed
Excellent shower Breakfast was basic but acceptable
- Geraldine (6/5): Pleasant - Nice hosts, although little contact with them. Pleasant small bedroom and nice bathroom. Easy to park. VERY expensive for the facilities, location, and the 'breakfast' (which was mainly prepackaged sweet pastries from the supermarket, packets of cereal, some yoghurt and fruit). We were particularly dismayed by the breakfast. This is in contrast to other accommodation at a similar price but better facilities or provisions.
- Mark (9/5): Excellent property just outside Portree. - Great apartment in Eyre, 7 miles north of Portree on the Isle of Skye. Good facilities, probably the best shower we have had for 5 weeks. Great hot water and easy to use, unlike many others. Very comfortable bed and nice breakfast each morning. Close to Portree and pubs, restaurants and the wild Scottish outdoors. Danielle was very easy to deal with, and her instructions on how to access the property were very helpful. The weather was not kind to us.
- Kim (8/5): Very good - Super clean, gorgeous view We left Our iPad and haven't heard back. I'm hoping she will contact me. On this app.
- Brenny (9/5): A sweet young host family offers a secluded, clean room with jaw-dropping views! - What an astonishing view! We watched the light change over the water for a half hour as the sun set. Just wow! The shower was the best we’d had in Scotland—great water pressure! The comfy bed was a necessity, as we arrived under the weather. We couldn’t find it easily. This was mostly our fault, because we didn’t think we’d have to consult an actual map. Google maps didn’t take us to Kensaleyre. Eyre Road isn’t marked. We toured many miles out of Portree on the wrong road. We did love the adventure the first time (with actual sheep in the road), but the second time was hard, feeling as sick and tired as we were. Also, the hosts added a “static caravan” as a landmark in their directions, but we had no idea that meant “broken, rusted tractor.” A lovely young couple we met on a one-lane road redirected us. Happily, we arrived in just enough sunlight to see what an astonishing vista this property blessed us with.
- Hunt (9/5): Superb - Very comfortable and clean. Great price for the area. Great location. Exceptional views. Danielle was quite kind and welcoming. Not having access to a microwave.
- Andrew (8/5): Great host’ lovely room , great view , quality all round - Location and room was great . And bathroom was excellent , We liked the host and we liked the quality of the fittings Confusing directions. Need to describe a wee bit better. Ie static caravan= portable home etc and angle of sign. But really small issues
- Vernon (10/5): Sgothan Dearg is a lovely clean and tidy place to stay with a very comfortable bed. - Very clean, comfortable bed, owners very friendly. Nothing
- Dorothea (10/5): Very comfortable stay in picturesque countryside setting - Lovely location in the country 6 miles out of Portree. Very comfortable & everything in pristine condition & sparkling clean. Great breakfast provided. Wonderful views across the countryside. Highly recommend a stay here! Nothing. Just 2 small things - Some instructions on operating TV would be good & some tissues in bathroom.
- Chris (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alexb007 (10/5): Exceptional -
- Linda (9/5): Superb -
- Lance (9/5): Superb -
- Bee (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kerry (10/5): Exceptional -
- Walker (9/5): Superb - Very comfortable and plenty of room. Lovely view. Unfortunately we didn't get to meet our hosts. A wee way out of Portree and found it hard to find the location. Once we found the road the directions were very clear.
- Ver_lei (10/5): Great place to stay - It was an amazing experience, thanks to Danielle! She did more than expected for us. The room was spacious and comfortable, the bathroom was really big and super clean. Nothing
- Barry (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jo-ann (9/5): Quiet retreat with good views. - Quiet location with lovely view across to the water. Very comfortable, modern accommodation. Liked the layout of the guest accommodation - porch area for removing boots with bench and coach hooks above was ideal. I liked the little breakfast bar and the range of items provided by the host.
- Linda (4/5): Disappointing - Very clean and very comfortable.
Lovely view. Felt very impersonal
Very expensive at £155 for one night (2 adults). We did, however, note that accommodation on Skye tends to be quite expensive with a two night minimum stay.
Poor breakfast considering tariff.
- Phil (9/5): Superb -
- Melanie (8/5): Very good -
- Tom (10/5): Loved it! - This was our favourite stay in all of Scotland. The property is so peaceful with a beautiful sunset view. The hostess is very kind and welcoming, she even surprised me with some gluten free breakfast items and snacks. The space is comfortable and nicely furnished. Thanks for making us feel at home.
- Barbara (10/5): Very relaxing and really comfortable, we loved it. - It was really lovely accommodation, with really friendly and welcoming hosts. Everything was perfect, no criticisms at all.
- Thaís (10/5): Exceptional - The room is amazing, well decorated, comfortable and with an incredible view. Danielle, the hostess was very kind to us and helped us many times during our stay.
- Anne (7/5): Very clean and comfortable - It was very clean, the bed was very comfortable Replacing the breakfast cereals and yoghurt and perhaps some jam or something for the scones. There were options of corn flakes, Rice Bubbles and cocoa pops. We had the corn flakes the first day and as they were not replaced we had to have Rice Bubbles. There was plenty of food, but to really make a difference some little things like this would have made a difference.
- Carol (10/5): Exceptional - Our hostess was absolutely the kindest person. We had a hiccup with our rental and she graciously helped us through it. Thanks to her granddad and neighbor Duncan as well. The place and view was spectacular! Thanks again!
- Megan (10/5): A lovely hideaway on Skye - Sgothan Dearg was exactly what we needed for our visit to the Isle of Skye. Great location for driving the peninsula loop, and not too far from shops and restaurants. I only wish we had spent more time on Skye.
- Jonny (9/5): Great place to stay when exploring Isle of Skye with car. - Very easy check-in/out. Good location and a clean and comfortable room. As some other guest had complained, the bathroom smelled of sewer.
Breakfast could be improved, but you get what is in the description of the room. A toaster would be nice to heat up the pancakes :)
- Jennifer (10/5): Fabulous stay at the start of our holiday - couldn't have started any better. Thank you. - Excellent location. Very warm welcome. Would definitely stay again and also recommend. Nothing, all fantastic.
- Lee (9/5): Great base to explore Skye, very comfortable and made very welcome by Danielle and Jordan -
- John (10/5): Danielle was a delight - Ideal location for a stop over for our ferry to the outer Hebrides and exploring Sky. The sunset was beautiful Nothing
- Quentin (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent stay, clean and neat. Great view.
- David (9/5): Great experience, highly recommend - Great location about 7 miles from Portree. Situated just off the ocean, great views, quiet. Owners were wonderful and welcoming.
- Madeleine (8/5): Very good -
- Taylin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Euan (10/5): Stunning stay at a stunning location - The family is incredibly welcoming and friendly, the room and facilities are modern, clean, practical, so comfortable, the view is stunning, remote but easy to find thanks to the detailed instructions we got. A big THANK YOU. Not one thing to improve.
- Carolyn (9/5): Superb -
- Doris (9/5): Superb - Very nice family, spectacular location and a brand-new room. Very tasteful decoration, overall a place to feel welcomed and enjoy the stay on the Isle of Skye. I will be back and certainly stay here again
- Timothy (9/5): Excellent value for modern stay with beautiful views - Sgothan Dearg is a new and modern guest room with en-suite bathroom. Bathroom was large with roomy shower and plenty of storage, a rarity in the UK. Bed was queen size and comfortable. Large closet. Views from the room were outstanding. Everything was clean and new. Plenty of room for parking. The owners were friendly and attentive, asking if there was anything we needed. The price was reasonable for the island. Overall, I would rate four out of five stars. It’s a steep drive up to Sgothan Dearg, but worth it for the view. The continental breakfast was okay. They do offer some basic breakfast food. If I stayed here again, which we certainly would, we would come prepared with our own breakfast food, and would have no problem doing that. There is a small refrigerator and a kettle for tea and coffee. So pastries, Greek yogurt, smoked salmon, granola, those kinds of items would be perfect to bring for this place. But this is a minor personal preference to a terrific place.
- Donna (10/5): Very comfortable with stunning views - Beautiful location with stunning views. Very nice accommodations. Nice setup with a super modern bathroom, comfortable bed, lots of storage, onsite parking, a small fridge with breakfast items. Nice owner too. Everything was great.
- George (8/5): Very good - Great location with fantastic views if the weather had been better.
Lovely clean and well furnished accommodation. No bread or croissant for breakfast
- Khemka (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joachim (9/5): A lovely stay. - An amazing place, beautiful, really nice people and extremely welcoming
My wife and I had a great time there and the location is perfect to explore the island! The only thing is the breakfast, we thought it was going to be a true Scottish breakfast but it was not the case
Still some breakfast but no eggs and bacon 😢
- Matt (10/5): Perfect stay - Absolutely spectacular location, close to all the beautiful sites in Skye, also the sunsets in the evening are incredible
- Sherzod (9/5): Superb -
- Hai (10/5): Exceptional - The accommodation was 10-15min drive away from Portree with a stunning view. The apartment was within the house of the host but it was still private. Breakfast was pretty good, we don't like having heavy meals in the morning, oats, cereals and fruits were more than enough for us. Everything was new and in a pretty good shape. -
- Michael (10/5): Clean comfy room and a great location! - Excellent location for our trip. We enjoyed a good night's sleep in a cozy clean room. Danielle was a great host and made sure we had everything we needed. The room was stocked with fruit and breakfast foods daily which was great because we could take them with us for an earlier day of hiking. The mini fridge was also great for keeping our snacks fresh. I only gave 4 out of 5 stars only because if you didn't crack the window the room would get a little stuffy. There is also no shelf inside the shower to place toiletries like soap.
- Gerry (10/5): Excellent, look forward to staying again next year - An excellent stay, nothing was to much trouble for Danielle, superb faacilities
- Helen (10/5): We’ll located and nice accommodations for a couple visiting the Isle of Skye. - Beautiful location. Owner was attentive and available but not intrusive. Not a thing
- Gregory (8/5): Very good - Everything was fine.
However we felt that the breakfast consisting of 2 pots of Oat Simple and some yogurt and fruit was rather economical
- Rob (9/5): Skye view - Brand new accommodation, really comfortable, very well equipped, lovely people. Great views with good access to all of the North of Skye. Nice and quiet location, would definitely recommend! Not really anything to not like.
- Evelyne (10/5): Peaceful place - Lovely room, modern and nicely decorated.
The room was really comfortable and clean .
The view was so beautiful .
Danielle welcomed us but we had our own entrance to the room. N/A
- Andreas (9/5): Superb - Very new, comfortable and quiet place, great view
- Ronald (10/5): A fantastic place to stay and to explore the Isle of Skye. - Great room. Authentic and fantastic location. Great hosts. Nothing.
- John (9/5): Great host, comfortable bed, impressive views. - The location between Uig and Portree is excellent for touring the northern half of Skye to visit the Old Man of storr and walk the Quiraing. The room and en-suite are new and well appointed. The bed is most comfortable which guarantees a good night sleep and the view from your bedroom window over the loch is impressive. Danielle our Host was most helpful. directions were a bit confusing initially but using the Postcode on Google maps brings you direct to the property.
FYI - The front door is for exclusive use of guests and brings you. into your bedroom. Your Host lives at the back of the property.
- Thomas (8/5): Very good - Very nice location, nice view. „Continental Breakfast“ was a joke. No bread or rolls, no jam or honey, no juice. Coffee or tea with instant porridge, some fruits and yoghurt should fulfill all requirements.
- Wendy (10/5): Exceptional - The B & B is halfway in between the Ferry at Uig and Portree. From the room, there is a stunning view over Loch Snizort Beag. Danielle is an excellent host! She and Jordan were amazing when my car battery died, going above and beyond the call of duty to help me get going again. Without them, I suspect I would have been stuck for an hour or more on this busy Saturday.
