Guest Reviews
- Harjit (10/5): Clean, tidy, homely and beautiful surroundings. - Very homely place and although I only used it to get ready to go to an event and sleep it, it was a lovely location and the surroundings were very pretty. For.me personally, it was just that we couldn't get a taxi to and from our event in Great Torrington. Should have done my research, to be honest, but I drove to my event and still had a fabulous time. This was not the fault of the property or host at all :)
- Gail (10/5): - Lovely people and lovely place, very cosy. The parking wasn't the best got stuck 1 time due ro the weather and the parking was grass, car ended up absolutely filthy due to mud flying up from the wheels of my car and also the other guests car. Also no shower just a bath.
- Sammi (10/5): - We had a fantastic time, so peaceful and beautiful. The cottage was so cute and old fashioned. The pool was so warm and we were lucky enough to have it to ourselves the whole weekend.
- Webster (5/5): Just bad manners - The location Lack of greeting, lack of a shower, smell of damp just being honest poor social skills as in none would not recommend
- Down (6/5): Pleasant stop over - It was adequate The place was a little musty, the drive up to the property was very poor - needs attention to potholes
- marisa (7/5): Needs improvement - The cottage was in a lovely setting, comfortable clean bed and comfy sofa ,the pool was really lovely close to the cottage .
Surfaces were clean and tidy . We had no contact with the hosts, no information as to where the pool was or WiFi information .
The cottage wasn't very clean i had to sweep the floor, The pots and pans were dirty with loose handles and in dusty draws with cobwebs, plastic sink bowl was greasy , bin lid was dirty inside, the log burner glass was broken which made the cottage smell like burnt wood as it had a half burnt piece of wood in it .
Under the sofa cushions were full of crumbs .
The light in the bathroom was thick with dust .
Wardrobe in bedroom smelt old and damp so couldn't put anything in it .
The toilet seat didn't fit and kept moving when sat on .

- beverley (5/5): - Cottage and the outside garden The standard of upkeep of the cottage, there was a few things that needed attention,eg doors not fitting, toilet seat broken, the shower, the smell of damp in all the rooms
- Toni-Melinda (6/5): - Lovely location, furnishings were updated to pictures, so told them to change them on booking.com more kitchen appliances than stated
Comfy bed Said private outdoor pool, but there wasn't. Indoor pool didn't have chlorine in it, so didn't use it
- Evgenia (6/5): Really good and different! - We loved the pool! Hot and clean, thank you! the toilet seat
- Elke (9/5): Superb -
- Elsbeth (8/5): Very good - The location was great. We were self catering. No breakfast provided. ‘Pothole’ on path outside door.
- Harry-i (10/5): Peacefully location - Location. Swimming pool. Equipment in kitchen Would have liked a fixed shower over the bath
- Knibb (5/5): Brilliant location, shame the cottage needed some updating. - Loved the location, perfect setting on the farm and the area ideal for us. Good to see lambs every morning, good view of the countryside and very quiet. There was no shower, we did not know when booking we needed pound coins for electric meter. The toilet seat was broken and saucepan handles. Also there was a draft in the bathroom, so very cold. Duvet was too small.
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mark (5/5): Remote & dated. - Bed was clean. Neighbour very friendly offered advice on nearest places for food and drink. Very quiet and peaceful. Access to property is poor. No lighting or clear direction. Very cold when accessed. Had a wood burner but no instructions on how to use. Information sheet outdated. Bath only with plastic shower hose for attaching to taps. But no hot water running in bath after 3 minutes of trickling.
- Victoria (9/5): Beautiful, tranquil, fun, restful, blessed. Thank you! - The hosts! They were amazing. So friendly, incredibly kind and helpful. Very accommodating. Also the swimming pool was lovely; warm and well looked after. Gorgeous log fire. Beautiful views. Very quiet. Tranquil. Greeted by a hedgehog on our first night! Near to the sea for a day on the beach. Will definitely visit again. Value for money.
- Gurpal (9/5): Superb -
- Julian (9/5): Would highly recommend The Forge - and we have done since our stay in the summer! - Fantastic location with amazing facilities which we enjoyed most days with a dip in the pool and several tennis matches. Views across to Dartmoor stunning. We were lucky enough to stay here during a heatwave and The Forge was nice and cool inside but I can imagine it might be cool during autumn/ winter in which case using the wood burner would be essential for a comfortable stay here.
- Alan (9/5): Superb - Tranquility
- Stephen (10/5): Brilliant value for money - Brilliant so peaceful and quiet fantastic place to stay if you just want to relax even though a really good swimming pool They give you locks for the fire there’s a good swimming pool very friendly and helpful service very quaint
- Raymond (9/5): Generally very pleased and if available I will be trying to book a twin bed for early Agust - I didn’t know there was breakfast, my only criticism is the access road and no shower More information about the pool and i had to phone a couple of times to get a key and i just driven 300 miles
- Katrina (8/5): Very good - Lovely location Tennis court needs a bit of upkeep.
- Ivan (9/5): A charming and comfortable cottage on a working farm. - Splendid location, lovely views. Comfortable bed. Open fire and logs provided. Cottage had everything we needed. Convenient parking. Indoor swimming pool Fantastic value. Poor lighting in sitting room, not enough for reading. An extra standard lamp would solve the problem.
- David (8/5): Good value for money, Perfect for our trip to RHS Rosemoor -
- Teresa1126 (7/5): Quaint - Quaint place comfortable bed no noise beautiful views given extra wood for fire. Glad it had radiators that made it home eventually. Would stay again but not in winter Needs lighting solar as arrived in dark n not sure which path to take to the place no lighting on the path either. Place was very cold on the 1st night hadn't been warmed through except living space. Fire doesn't give off much heat we have one at home nothing in comparison. Paying extra for electricity on the meter for the radiators as it was very cold we were aware of meter but did eat the coins
- Alan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michelle (2/5): Extremely disappointing. I stayed 1 night I stead of 3. - Location was peaceful I had saved for ages to take my grandaughter to meet her great grandparents, and then had to borrow to find alternative accommodation after the 1st night. It was Bitterly cold to the point of feeling damp and l had to put a 19mth old sleeping baby to bed in a freezing cold bedroom. 🥶
- Terry (9/5): Great value for money in lovely location - Easy access to Tarka Trail
- Ann (8/5): We really enjoyed a relaxing, peaceful stay. - Lovely location. A charming, character cottage. A wood burner was lit for us on arrival, with electrical heating available if needed. Everything was clean and tidy and the kitchen area was well equipped for self catering.
Although a swimming pool was available in another building we did not make use of this facility.
Wifi worked well. Only a few miles drive to RHS Rosemoor where we had planned to visit and then on to the coast, although road diversions due to road works at the time increased the length of the journey. There is no shower cubicle If you prefer a shower rather than a bath. Struggled a bit to get TV to work.
An information booklet about the cottage and local area could be helpful for visitors.
- James (7/5): Good - Price was good if I had a question i got a reply No shower stand in no curtain
- Richard (10/5): Great place in North Devon - Great welcome by Debbie. Cottage was well equipped and comfortable. Location was beautiful and peaceful. Would stay again. Nothing
