Guest Reviews
- Robin (8/5): Lovely, cosy cottage in the centre of Ambleside, close to all amenities. - Cottage was very clean, cosy and warm and in the centre of Ambleside close to all amenities with a free car parking permit for the main car parks. Owners were very helpful and easy to contact. Parking - difficult to get a space in the main car park.
- Zoe (9/5): Perfect location in Ambleside, mattress needs replacing - Perfect location for hiking and relaxing. Central to fells and mountainous hikes. Plenty of lovely restaurants a two minute walk away Beautiful little bolthole, and beautifully decorated. However the mattress most certainly needs replacing. My other half barely slept all week due to there being a big dent on the left side. Which wasn’t great for a hiking holiday.
Other than this I can’t find fault😊
- Katie (7/5): Lovely but... - We frequently visit the lakes and normally stay elsewhere but this time we thought we'd stay in Ambleside. Little bethel was very charming, such a welcoming and lovely feel to it. It was bright, spacious and the bed was really comfy.
We didn't use it but the log burner would be great for colder days. We spent most of our time outside but the cottage was equipped with a basic TV and dvd player and lots of dvds, books, boardgames and a stereo (that had an iPod dock in it if anyone still uses those!) it was a bit of a blast from the past in some respects.
Little bethel was well equipped and had everything we needed for our stay
It"s the perfect location for a hiking holiday. The renovation itself had been done really tastefully and kept some of the lake district charm with some modern updates. It was genuinely lovely and we had a nice time after a few adjustments. A few things let the property down, some were not essential such as the lack of parking space, even though the description says that there would be somewhere to park on the road, that isn't really the case, however there was a permit provided for the local carparks which worked great for us but maybe wouldn't for some people who would need a more accessible option.
The major issue was the cleanliness of some areas of the cottage. The door of the extractor fan was absolutely caked in grease and someone else hair... There was a piece of broccoli on the table and old scrambled egg or something lodged in the provided scrubbing brush which made me wonder how well it had been cleaned and there was an open pack of pretzels in the cupboard too. Needless to say I scrubbed the kitchen area.
Finally and probably the thing that I find most unacceptable but it's a pretty common occurrence in holiday cottages unfortunately, was that behind the bed and the bedside tables was absolutely filthy, and I mean grimey, dusty, and full of someone else's used tissues. I always strip the bed when we stay somewhere because I can't deal with sleeping in dirty rooms. I know there's a quick turnaround on these places but still, it's a lot of money to spend your first night of a holiday cleaning after a long journey.
So we basically spent our first night cleaning which I know is a bit sad but I know if I clean it then it's done properly. I understand the weather in the lakes doesn't exactly allow for dirt to stay completely outside and will most likely be trampled in, plus these older properties tend to get covered in cobwebs and dust. however I draw the line at this low level of cleaning.
Despite that, and knowing that my own cleaning standards are higher than average, there were a lot of positives to this cottage and we did have a lovely time in the lakes as we always do. I just don't think I'd stay at this particular place again.
