Guest Reviews
- Tomas (9/5): Maravilloso entorno -
- Bruno (10/5): Excelente - Excelente, produtos locais, vista maravilhosa e atendimento impecável. Simples mas muito gostoso. Nada, estava tudo ótimo. Fomos super bem atendidos.
- Monica (10/5): The cabin we stayed was absolutely gorgeous with a magnificent view. - Absolutely everything! N/A
- Felipe (9/5): -
- Ruth (9/5): A truly special stay in a staggering beautiful location. - Truly breathtaking views - probably the most stunning location we have ever stayed in. The room was gorgeous, the staff are super friendly and the food is delicious. Such a magical place! N/a
- Silke (10/5): Wow cottages with spetacular view - Breathtaking view to cerro castilo peaks. Grat location in the middle of nature. Makes feel like being alone there. The cottages - can‘t call it cabins - have a wow effect. Personal is super friendly and helpful. Dinner at lodge was great. Nothing for party people, but nature lovers. The „road“ to the lodge can only be managed by 4x4 vehicles and is still is a challenge. Only downside we didn‘t stay long anough. Certainly like to come back. Nothing

- Debra (10/5): - The setting was idyllic - so remote with spectacular views of the mountains and river! Liked everything about it - however, if you didn’t have 4 wheel drive, would be difficult to get to the property.
- Susan (10/5): beautiful land, great service, the best view from a room (or anywhere on the property), great meals - The best view from a room we have ever had on the most beautiful land, the friendly staff, the community meals for breakfast and dinner. They were able to accommodate pescatarian/vegetarian
- Katherine (9/5): Great place with majestic views. - All good. We arrived in a 2WD but were quickly ferried up to the lodge by the team. They were friendly, helpful nice people. The location was peaceful with great views and seclusion. So glad we went there
- Stella (9/5): Wonderful mountain lodge - a very special experience on our trip through Chile. - Staying here is an amazing experience. The views of the mountains from the rooms are spectacular, the lodge building is comfortable and informal. Meals are served at a communal table so you can chat to other guests and we were also lucky to meet the owners and hear about how they developed the lodge . The staff are lovely, very friendly and helpful . The chef made some nice fish and veggie food for us . Great hiking nearby . Be aware if you don’t have a 4x4 you need to be picked up at the bottom of the drive but the staff always responded immediately to our whats app messages .
- Isabel (10/5): - Increíble el lugar, todo maravilloso

- Kathleen (10/5): One of the most amazing places I have ever been, and I have traveled the world. - The breakfast was very good. They had everything that anyone would want for breakfast. Milk, fresh made bread, juice, yogurt, granola type cereal, eggs, cheese, fruit. It could not have been better. Nothing
- Dirk (10/5): Highly recommended - This is an amazing place. You feel at home immediately and Néstor is the prefect host.
We enjoyed the meals and the view from our room.
This place comes highly recommended. Time goes too fast here.
- Esteban (10/5): One of the most exceptional places to stay in Patagonia - I booked this Cabin because of the location, close to the trails to Cerro Castillo, and had no expectations. I had rented a car already to travel from Balmaceda Airport to Cerro Castillo, and to be able to go back and forth to the town. Once I arrived to the Cabin, I quickly realized that, basically, I had no need to leave the area. The staff at Alto Castillo provided all the services needed. My car was not a 4x4, so I had to park at the bottom of the property and once I arrived, I was promptly picked up and taken to the main property. They offer Lunch and Dinner, for an extra fee. I chose to have a lunch bag prepared for me each day of hiking and ate dinners at the Main Lodge. Also, there was no need to drive my car to the trail heads, because they also provided transportation to the 2 main trails. You definitely need a 4x4 to be able to drive to the trails! I was very happy for that service. The property is located in a spectacular location, with the most amazing views of Cerro Castillo and the Rio Ibanez Basin. The Cabins are very modern with all the amenities needed to be comfortable. The breakfast was great! The bread was made in-house and the milk and cheeses were from adjacent farms. The lunch boxes were perfect for the day hikes. Dinners were made at he Lodge, cooked by their amazing Chef, Patrick. But what makes this place so outstanding is the Staff that runs it. They make you feel like you are part of their family. Nestor, the administrator, does an amazing job of running the place and making sure that all the guest's needs are met. It was easy to contact him with any questions at any time of the day. Other amazing staff, included Geraldine and Danela. Their service and attentiveness was greatly appreciated! I highly recommend Alto Castillo to anyone desiring to experience all the amazing natural wonders of the area. I would suggest spending at least 3 full days in the area. I will definitely go back! It would be great to have Wi-Fi in the Cabins, instead of having to go to the Main Lodge communal area for service. But, you get used to it. In a way, it was great to be disconnected from technology for a few days.
- Erin (10/5): The best place we stayed in all of South America! - This was by far one of the most amazing places we've ever stayed! The staff was warm and welcoming, the beds were the MOST comfortable in all of South America, and the view and location can't be beat! The food for breakfast and dinner was among the best we had in Chile. Don't hesitate to stay here!!
One thing to note- if you plan on driving up the hill on your own, you *will* need a 4x4 vehicle. No worries if you don't have one... the staff happily will come pick you up at the base (still within the gated property) and bring you to your room. Nothing. We could have stayed here forever.
- Jaufré (10/5): Exceptional - Hidden at the end of a path in a sublime place overlooking Cerro Castillo and the valley, this tastefully built and decorated lodge is run by lovely and attentive hosts. Between the incredible view from the suite and the quality of the meals (the best I've tasted in Chile so far) everything is done to ensure you have an extraordinary time. WOW!
- Marie (10/5): Treat yourself to this truly fantastic lodging in a stu kingly beautiful part of the world! - Exceptional location and amazing views from every part of the property, super helpful and proactively accommodating, incredibly good food, cozy fire on rainy days, tastefully designed and integrates well into the natural surroundings, would happily have stayed here a week! Nothing!
- Anna (10/5): Fantastic views, stylish lodge, attentive staff. - Beautiful location surrounded by nature, views of valleys and mountains. The food was not exceptional but well prepared. The Lodge itself is well designed in the farmhouse country-side kind of style, huge windows, nice furniture, and it feels like a private retreat rather than a hotel. The manager was exceptional- he was at 5 different places at the same time, finding time to greet all guests, offer meals and services and attention. I think English as an international language of communication would be desired: we could have used a locals' advice on the Park and the area as our information was rather limited.
- Ian (10/5): A one off - Stunning location, even in mixed weather. Set in 50 acres, an incredibly steep 150m ascent above the access road. Unless you have a serious 4x4 and are a very confident driver, you have to park at the bottom and get taken up. Which worked fine. Nestor very obliging and helpful. Loved the park and the 14mile Laguna Duff trail. Very good food - excellent soups in particular. Good WiFi. Very classy place as per pictures. Memorable. We only wanted one small sandwich as a snack for a lunch and were charged 24,000! A bit of bread, cheese and avocado that we could have eaten at breakfast. Not Nestor’s fault, the rules, but that was crazy absurd. At the same time, the wine was surprisingly good value, so it balances out.
- Daniela (10/5): Absolutly recommendable - It was an excellent stay. I really appreciated the two nights I stayed in this stunning area.
As the location is unique you need a 4x4 car to achieve the location, otherwise you will be picked.
The room was clean, well equipped and cosy and especially the view out of bed in the morning is unique.
I had as well dinner and the chef served a very delicious menu.
I am very happy that I found and choose this accommodation.
- Ross (10/5): Amazing property, spectacular setting, great staff! - Utterly breathtaking setting - we stayed in the suite which had views over mountains and trees and was completely on its own. Beautifully designed and furnished space. It’s an experience staying here in itself, worth going well out of your way for if needed! But it’s also very close to the trailheads in the nearby national park with spectacular, quiet hiking trails. The staff were all incredibly friendly and went out of their way to make our stay special - which included bringing over some cake for my partner’s birthday on the last morning of our stay, minutes after they heard about it. Nestor treats you like royalty - very attentive coffee preparation for example! And Lucas was really happy to offer lifts up and down the hill, and share information about the local area and Chile in general. Simply one of the best places we’ve ever stayed. Any minor inconvenience is overshadowed by how amazing it was staying here. Breakfast probably on the lighter side for us, especially when hiking, and it is cold until you get a fire going, but that’s part of the charm!
- Adiafora (10/5): Unmatched cabin house embedded in nature - The view was amazing! The vicinity of nature is unmatched, many windows, even in the bathroom with mountain view. Comfortable bed, spacious cabin house, remote area (no neighbours in 50m radius), beautiful decor with attention to detail. Delicious breakfast and dinner (upon request). The mobile service is weak, and the internet (Starlink) is only in the common area; if it's shut down, there's no way to contact the owners to coordinate the hour of breakfast, unless you go to a nearby hill and have Entel. The nights might get cold and you need to light the fireplace by yourself (which is not a bad thing at all if you know how to do it). Without a car, the place is one-hour walk away from the village, and in order to get to the place you're recommended to have 4x4 car, or walk, or ask the owners to pick you up (slightly troublesome, but that's the price for wonderful views).
- Terry (6/5): Beautiful, peaceful and romantic, just not very customer friendly on the back end. - Location, scenery, facility and staff were exceptional. The meals were excellent using local ingredients and prepared when we wanted. Staff made sure that we had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. If you're looking for quiet, nature and beauty with a bit of romance, this is the place to be. Very difficult to reach the facility, although the staff was willing to help us up the very steep and bumpy road in their 4x4 truck whenever we needed to get somewhere.
Updated 2 March: Because of a flight cancellation, we had to miss one day of our scheduled time at Villa Castillo. We were assured by on-site management that working through Booking.com, we would be refunded for the missed date. After several attempts through Booking.com and directly with the property, our attempts have been ignored with no refund made. This is an unfortunate way to end what otherwise was a very nice stay at this property, resulting in our lower score.
- Paolo (10/5): Great position, cosy spaces, excellent manager, good food. A place where to stay - Great position, cosy spaces, excellent manager, good food. It is a perfect place where to spend some days enjoying the nature and the beauty of Patagonia. it is a good balance monwy-service. Highly reccomanded The road to reach the place could be improved
- Alexander (10/5): Beautiful lodge with fantastic hosts in a fantastic surrounding! - The lodge is situated at a unique location. The hosts (Felipe & Mariana) are great! We loved the charming cabana where we stayed, it was nicely decorated and had stunning views. The food was delicious (traditional home-style Chilean food). Last point; the lodge makes a great effort to be as sustainable as possible…which is great! Nothing comes to mind on what can be improved
