Guest Reviews
- Guest (2/5): I will never book this hotel - Public shower an WC did not work
No coffee no water no glass
- Louise (9/5): -
- Charlotte (10/5): Wonderful stay, will be back! - Centrally located, clean, safe and fabulous staff.
- Anne (7/5): - the location, the possibility to get a bike for free the noise in the street all night, the room was very hot
- Onafowokan (1/5): Homestay is not a habitation for human beings, not even for homeless. - Central location Nothing good about Homestay, 17 Hills Rd. My booking was for 32 Hanover court; but I was redirected to Hill Rd accommodation where the door had no jam nor lock; the bed depilatory, mattress worn out, no carpet, cobwebs here and there, toilet with no bathroom; only a general shower cubicle, no dustbin, dirty and broken toilet. It was a shame, I have no regret to say this. I have a video of the room
- Tim (5/5): Passable -
- Chlupatý (2/5): I wouldn't recommend this accommodation even to an enemy - Not offered Cleanness of toilet and shower
- Simpson (5/5): Passable -
- Anonymous (9/5): Duncan was very helpful during our stay. -
- Anonymous (9/5): Superb - pleasant check in, rooms are good sized and prime location
- Anonymous (9/5): Superb - Enjoyable stay, good for last minute change of plans,
- Hayes (5/5): Cheap bed in central Cambridge. - Location was suitable for my needs, shops pubs and restaurants close by. Bed was comfortable, room was clean and just big enough, there was a table and chair so I could use my laptop comfortably. Barely adequate facilities, no wastpaper basket, towels or facility to make hot drinks, not even a plastic cup to get water from the tap in the bathroom (bring your own drinking water). The bedside light was so weak I could not read a book by it. Overall the place felt a bit run down, which goes with the very cheap price for a central Cambridge location.
- Anonymous (8/5): Very good - attentive staff, and very nice rooms
- Gavin (9/5): Superb - a very wonderful stay
- Paul (6/5): Pleasant -
- Barny (9/5): Superb - kind staff and flexible check in, location was very good
- Ilaria (8/5): Very good -
- Ruby (6/5): Adequate with nice decor details. - In a good location. Hallway a bit dark. Found a fingernail or toenail on floor in my room after cleaning.
- Esi (4/5): Was a bit disappointed because what I saw online was not what was given to me - The bedroom was neat The room was too cold at night, mattress was not comfortable at all. If the kitchen can be work on a bit
- Shunan (1/5): It’s far short compared with the youth hotel which is just nearby. - It enjoys quite a good location not far from the Cambridge city center. The bedroom is too cold and I couldn’t sleep properly. I woke up in the midnight. The landlord provided a small electrical heater but it was too small to be helpful. The bedroom doesn’t have an en-suite bathroom and I don’t think this point was clearly made in the description. The sanity of the communal bathroom is not quite good, especially the shower room. There’s no hot water from the tap in the bathroom and I can’t wash my face. Additionally, the property and the room furbishment is quite old. The lamps in the bedroom are not bright enough. The room is not so clean.
Although I originally had booked two nights in the room, as it’s too cold in the midnight I moved to a youth hotel just nearby which is cheap, clean, comfortable with friendly staff.
- Paul (8/5): Very good - splendid area and marvellous staff who assisted in all my needs, basic but fulfills all requirements
- Simms (8/5): Very good - wonderful short term venue very friendly staff would recommend
- Rebecca (1/5): Awful - Nothing DO NOT USE - even at the price it is a rip off.
It was not located where the advert said. It is in fact on a main road with very noisy traffic from the early hours. Access is from a dark alley - suboptimal as a single woman. And the door isn't easy to open.
I booked an ensuite which was mysteriously suddenly unavailable and got a whole £3 refunded. The corridor to the bathroom was freezing, the bathroom was dirty and in poor repair, the room lacked a sink, towel, glass or bin, the place stank, the electrical equipment (lamp and extension cable) wasn't PAT tested. It was awful, truly awful. The walls are also thin so I found out more than I ever want to about the person next door who also started watching TV at about 0530. I barely slept and felt very unsafe.
- Julie (8/5): Very good - Nice stay, very lovely location
- Ioannis (4/5): Think about it - The room was ok size Could do with a bit more cleaning (too many spiders), would be nice to offer a towel to the guests (at least a face cloth), the room was a bit cold. It's what you see on the pics
- Gary (9/5): Superb - very accomdating stay, staff was very kind and lovely, loaction was prime, rooms were very Tidy and large. I would stay again
- Bodnar (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anna (7/5): Good - The staff was amazingly kind and helpful, which is just what I needed at night. And I felt looked after.
- Glese (3/5): Do NOT stay here!!!!! It’s bad. - There was very little to like. The room and so called bathroom were substandard and I would never stay there again. Probably the worst lodging I have ever booked, ever. On a positive note, the room was clean overall (though it initially smelled of urine). The woman Maher who is onsite and cleans and gives you your keys is very kind and helpful. The place is well located to visit Cambridge. There were fresh tulips in a vase in the room. There is a lovely French bakery across the street. There is absolutely nothing else positive to say about this place. Where to begin? The “private bathroom” is a toilet on wooden planks and a tiny sink with one functional faucet (cold water only; the hot water faucet does not work); there is no shower. The door to the bathroom is a ¼ inch thick (thin) plastic door. Seriously, not kidding. No towels at all were provided; 1/3 of a roll of toilet paper was. The room was cold despite the radiator being on high. I normally sleep in shorts and a tee shirt. Not here. I slept in thermal long underwear and a warm long sleeve shirt. Stairs are narrow and steep (2 floors up) - Maher and a young man kindly helped me tote my bags up the stairs. Entry is via a dark alley full of broken glass on the walk. To sum it up: spend more and do not stay here! Just. Don’t. None of this is Maher’s fault - it’s all on the owners. This is a third world type place and should not exist in Cambridge UK. I believe it is illegal to rent a place with no hot water in the UK. Owners - you need to do better than this, much better. This place is an embarrassment to the UK and to you.
- Steve (8/5): Very good -
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional - Woz made very welcome on my arrival
- Riccardo (4/5): Disappointing - Great location Poor cleanliness
- Shaun (8/5): Very good - Tidy rooms, staff was exceptional attentive, the check in was very clear with video instructions, the location is the best feature of the place, plus there some really good bakeries and supermarkets near by which makes this place great for anything short term
- Marti (8/5): Very good - Incredibly kind staff, convient central location make it a really convient spot, rooms were clean, and nice.
- Jack (4/5): Good location, not a great hotel, would be better going to a Travelodge or Premier Inn -
- Gale (9/5): Superb - friendly service, clean rooms, good location,
- Ahmed (4/5): Good location, nice staff but foul smell made it very difficult to sleep in the room - Location great.
Staff attentive Foul smell in the room. I have stayed here twice and have had the same issue.
Dirt across the floor from dirty shoes upon entering the room for the first time.
- Wiedemeier (3/5): Horrible - location The property was terrible. Rooms and Bathroom cold. No staff. Place worn down and not comfortable. I would never stay here again.
- Win (8/5): Very good -
- Redden (8/5): Very good -
- Dan (9/5): Superb - Really quick response time and customer service, with superb location with mini supermarkets and nice bakeries next door.
Nice spacious rooms, clean with a nice large work desk.
I highly recommend
- Dipankar (9/5): Awesome place to leave in Cambridge - calmness nothing all was good
- Khadida (1/5): Bad - I feel myself so uncomfortable. I scared from the place.
- Xinlian (8/5): Very good -
- Didier (10/5): A nice and central place, perfect for people who wants to spend a couple of days in the city - The accommodation has an excellent location that allows you to easily walk to the main attractions of the city, as well as the train station. Both the housekeeper and the manager of the accommodation were very helpful and friendly. Personally, I have nothing to say about improvements, since my goal was to find a comfortable and well-located place for the work I had to do in the city. These expectations were fully met.
- Pernille (7/5): Good - taken the price into consideration. Central. Helpful staff and owner. - Perfect location. A little har to find the. A sign on the door would have helped.
- Tamie (10/5): Exceptional - excellent location, and very good communication
- Joy-katherine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Julian (10/5): Exceptional - Sweet caretaker opened the door for me, room was clean and tidy, would stay again
- Mack (3/5): Poor -
- Pau (6/5): Pleasant -
- Saman (5/5): Passable -
- Jiaxuan (8/5): Very good - Very welcome and considerate staff. Very bad soundproofing, can hear things clearly from the street. Sanitation acceptable but not perfect.
- Sonja (9/5): A really nice little comfy room with a nice housekeeper - You get exactly what is in the description. It was not exaggerated or anything. The room was very comfortable and the housekeeper was really really nice!! It was near corn exchange so perfect for me! You can’t really change that but I would have loved to have my own shower. But besides that everything is good!
- Hei (5/5): Passable -
- Albert (4/5): Overall, my stay wasn’t that comfortable and pleasant. Didn’t have a good rest and relaxing stay. - The location is great as it is close to the center and accessible to most shops. A lot. The stairs were too narrow when you are carrying a heavy and huge luggage. It’s not safe.Neither the private toilet nor shared bathroom are comfortable and pleasant to use.
- Nausheen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Katie (10/5): Exceptional - The location was ideal and the room was excellent. Very spacious and clean Would have liked a small bin for inside the room
- Zeynep (5/5): Passable -
- William (8/5): Good enough. - It was quick and easy to book. My room was noisy from traffic, and the shower was difficult to set at a comfortable temperature. Also, there was a strong chemical smell in the house.
- Adelina (8/5): Great location - Great location, friendly greeting. I didn't dislike anything.
- Anna (6/5): Good value place spoilt by ridiculously loud music from the pub next door. - Very friendly and helpful housekeeper.
Very comfortable bed.
Very basic, but everything was clean.
Other guests were quiet.
Had a fridge and microwave. Biggest problem was a pub next door called The Emperor, which had a DJ playing nightclub-volume music til 1am. Needs the local council to intervene. Impossible to sleep before 1am due to the incessant boom boom.
Towels not provided.
- Katie (8/5): Fine - Friendly staff, felt safe and clean it’s a bit intimidating when arriving because it’s just a door in an alleyway, however it’s absolutely fine when you get in
- Angelina (10/5): Exceptional - very flexible check in time & tidy cosy place
- Eoin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Richard (9/5): Superb - Basic facilities, but exactly what I needed, a bed for the night very near the City centre.
- Paulette (7/5): Fine - Great location. Difficult to find, a bit rickety.
- Grant (1/5): Low budget basic stay I don’t know how it got the level of reviews it already has. Pay an extra couple of pounds and sta - I was charged an extra 10 pounds for a private bathroom which then turns out to be just a toilet in the corner of the room propped up by two pieces of wood. The number given for check in doesn’t work. this was more of a half way house.
- Wulan (1/5): Only choose this if you really have to be in Cambridge & the other option is to sleep in the street - The location is only its redeeming feature The whole thing. The shared bathroom is awful, I couldn't barely look at it. The house and room are dirty, like a building that has been abandoned for years.
- Jeremy (4/5): Disappointing -
- Constanze (7/5): Good -
- Josh (7/5): Good -
- Sam (8/5): Very good - the staff was very helpful, check in was straight forward
- Adeolaakah (3/5): Not good enough - The house keeper was friendly. The location is very close to shops and the city center Dirty..I had spiders in my room. Dirty hand basin in the bath. Rust on doors and keys. Old looking rooms
The house was difficult to find. It had a old and rusty feel
I honestly cud not lie down on the sheets as it all felt so unclean. No towels in the room so I had to dona make shift with one of mine
- Oleksandr (7/5): Good -
- Nathan (9/5): Superb -
- Griffiths (6/5): Pleasant -
- Graham (9/5): Very Zen!! - This is a no frills accommodation in central Cambridge. It was easy to find. There are no tea making facilities in the room and no TV (which I really liked). For me there was a small kitchenette where you could make a hot drink and microwave a meal. Although I didn't use it, there was also a small washing machine, ironing board and ironing available, which was a nice touch.
My room had a toilet and small basin. It was 'cosy'. The basin only had cold running water, so only useful for teeth brushing. Next door was a shared shower room, that had a sink (no plug), toilet and shower. This was a spacious bathroom, which was nice. The shower temperature could not be adjusted using the fine control and you were left with the three settings of "Too hot", "Cold" and "Very Cold". Thankfully Is preferred cold and very cold.
The housekeeper was so welcoming and very considerate of guests. I had advised the accommodation that I would be arriving at 5:00pm, but didn't get there till 8:30pm. I should have messaged again to state this, which would have been helpful and more considerate to the house keeper. So, if you are arriving later than expected, let them know.
The accomodation was simple, but I found it to be very clean and the laminate or linoleum flooring throughout was welcome.
I have to say that it was one of the most comfortable sleeps I have ever had. The single bed mattress was very comfortable. The accommodation is on a main street in Cambridge, but I didn't find it noisy, even with the window open.
Most important point, "Would I stay there again?". The answer to that is a definite, "Yes". Although, I would prefer to book directly just to make it a bit cheaper.
You have to bring your own towel, and if you have your own cutlery and crockery that would be helpful.
Would I recommend the accommodation? If you are happy with simple, clean and peaceful accommodation, then absolutely yes! It would be great if there was more crockery, cups and cutlery available for guests. Even a small towel in the room would make a big difference. These are suggestions, not criticisms.
- Ryan (3/5): Communication from the host was excellent and the housekeeper is lovely. The room was very basic indeed, the shower was - Good communication and a very friendly and attentive housekeeper It was extremely basic, badly need in need of refurbishment and I would not be keen to return
- David (7/5): Good location and value for money - Great location - property is on one of the main roads in/out of the city and is close walking distance to the train station. The room was clean, had its own toilet facilities as described and the shared shower room was clean. The lady who maintained the property was very friendly. Despite being on a main road, the room wasn't too noisy and I wasn't disturbed by noises or anything at the property. I would probably stay here again if visiting Cambridge. The check-in instructions weren't super clear. The entrance to the property is down an alleyway and isn't particularly well-maintained which was a bit off-putting.
- Frank (8/5): Very good -
- Stephanie (7/5): Good - Central
easy to walk to everything Shower unit was very inconsistent with temperature
- Roger (8/5): Staying in Cambridge on a tight budget, this is the place for you, - Located just a short walk from the main railway station and on the main bus route. Many good venues within 5 mins walk of the house. Very good for a budget price in central Cambridge. Very friendly staff with tea coffee and cooking area if required. Very clean fresh comfortable bed Shared bathroom but choice of 2
- Henajj (8/5): Very good -
