Guest Reviews
- Mrs Louise Gillie (10/5): Quaint & Quiet - Quite spacious, everything provided fora brief stay.
- Matthew (10/5): -
- John (9/5): - Interesting historical building. Limited space for food preparation.
- Elyse (7/5): Great stay! - Great location to stay for a wedding at Ratho! Only one bathroom and it was upstairs.
- Jan (8/5): Lovely historical building - Location was great, and the historic building was beautiful. As is typical for historic houses (1830's) there wasnt an original bathroom. The new bathroom had been added to the top floor, and access was via a narrow and steep staircase. this was a little dangerous for individuals with less mobility.
- Pat (9/5): Beautiful little town, great pub and cafe food and near by with warm friendly staff and locals alike - Lovely location, quite unique residence, s We personally had no complaints although others may find some differences to other properties
Some may find the steep stairs a challenge as the main bathroom is located upstairs, but not an issue for us
- Therese (10/5): Highly recommended - Wonderful place to stay.
Great location
Clean and great facilities
Would definitely stay again.
- VB (7/5): Something of a pleasant surprise! - Externally, the building looked pretty-much like the 1837 structure that it was; internally, however, it did feature the expected range of modern amenities: stove, fridge, TV, comfy beds, crockery, cutlery, but no dishwasher. The "grotty" electric jug was willingly replaced. Yes, the parking was "free", but it was simply on the street out front. Depiction of the property on Booking.com is deceiving - it primarily displays the 4 b/r main house, with just a few small shots of the 2 b/r cottage in which we stayed.
No lock on bathroom door (which room also includes the toilet).
The "tap" over the bathroom handbasin is a shocker!
No internet provided.
- Lynda (8/5): Disappointed this was not where I thought we were staying. - Location was quiet. Very quaint historic wooden cottage. Not the property displayed on the above picture. No scissors or small kitchen knives. Fridge did not seem to be working.
- Amanda (10/5): Fantastic - Everything
- Martin (1/5): Would Not ever entertain staying Again Over the Top RIPOFF would have been better off in a caravan - NOTHING Unit 2 Not shown in Picture of Property (Wonder Why?) was Cold Drafty & aircon/heatpump Did NOT keep up with 5 Deg night Temps
Old Building But in Desperate Need of Renovation by a Professional of external Doors which I could see through between 1/2" boards & 1" gap under door with Plastic screen in an attempt to keep the door in One Piece & Windows leaky & UNABLE to Open to let outside warmth in during daytime when temp was 19C outside 8C inside with Heat pump On Flatout
Unable to Stand Upright in Shower or while using Toilet area vanity tap flows over vanity
- Sharon (5/5): Would not recommend if the weather is cold. - The location and history It was very cold and the heating was not sufficient for the whole building. The bathroom shower rose was a joke. The hot water ran out before we could all shower. The toilet leaked and was not screwed to the floor. The bathroom door and bottom bedroom doors got stuck. The kitchen did not have washing up supplies or descent cooking basics. The outside toilet did not have a light. Could be good if basic maintenance was done.
- Amanda (10/5): - Epic rooms and style
- Mark (7/5): - Cute place. Keys didn't work in two out of three doors. Pub was shut, no where to eat dinner. Low ceiling in bathroom, needs an exhaust fan and brighter light.
- Bryan (9/5): Brilliant little cottage - The heritage Just a little isolated if you don’t bring your own food
- Paul (7/5): - Placement
Charm of an old building Insufficient heating
Leaking vanity taps
Unfinished Reno’s
- Ian (5/5): Way too expensive for the condition of the property. Could be so much better with some effort & urgent maintenance. - Good location in a lovely town. Exterior of property very unkempt & rundown, daylight visible through cracks in brick work etc. Weird bathroom fixtures & fittings, (tap also hooked up back to front) no proper mirror or light in bathroom. Interior furnishings do not reflect or complement the historic nature of the building. No coat hangers in wardrobes, rats or mice active in the walls at night.
- craig (9/5): - the old building has a great comfortable feeling, very relaxing, different to anything you've experienced you must try this ,has all the amenities, easy walking for shops and pub 2 minutes, the quietness was amazing.
- Cheryl (8/5): We enjoyed our short stay in this clean charming cottage. - Interesting history It was a bit difficult to keep warm in lounge room and bathroom
- Janice (10/5): - I loved the fact that the cottage was from the 1800's and included some antiques
- Adinde (9/5): Amazing cozey and old house with a lot of space - The nicest thing was the space in the house. We where with 8 people, tired of a entire day hiking. And we had a nice kitchen and good livingroom to relax. We watched a movie with all of us on the sofa's. Also the rooms where nice and big.
It is an old house which really gives an cozey vibe. There is only 1 bathroom on the firstfloor. We were with 8 people so that was quite a hassle. Because also the tiolet was in the bathroom.
- Jacqueline (9/5): -
- Sue (7/5): Interesting - No lock on bathroom door
Very cold even with split system on
- Stephen (10/5): Overall very pleased Nic to have a close dryer. - The location was great and to stay in a historic building. No light in toilet down stairs . Fluorescent needs to be replaced in laundry room.
- Elvis (3/5): Not suitable for people with disabilities!! - Great location Not suitable for people with disabilities, very steep stairs only toilet downstairs is outside. We did not stay and went somewhere else in the area!
- Sharon (8/5): -
- Deborah (8/5): - Peculiar but delightful place. A bit cold but the heater worked well
- John (8/5): - We thought the fire place could have ready for lighting
Or have firewood ready for us to use.
- Shannae (8/5): Beautiful old home🏡 - Lovely old charm, comfortable bed
And a beautiful little town. Only complaint is maybe some more efficient heating during the cold season. It was quite cold.
- Leanne (6/5): Pleasant -
- Elise (7/5): We were initially disappointed with our booking but made the best of what we got. The cottage grew on us but was not wha - After initial shock of finding out we were actually staying in the small cottage, we found it quite comfortable. Advertising was deceiving. Main house was dominant in advertisements which is misleading. Heater in main bedroom did not work properly and one wheel missing. Heater in 2nd bedroom smelt like something burning. Tap in bathroom basin cute but not very practical🙂
- Greg (9/5): Enjoyable. - Great location and comfortable!
- Douglas (10/5): Perfection in a box - The location was excellent.
The cottage was perfect There was nothing not to like
- Michele (7/5): Enjoyable - The history Broken bathroom door knob and no laundry / toilet light
- Lyn (8/5): Very good -
- Frank (6/5): For living in the past - Place is quirky clean and comfortable bed with rabbits all around. Being over 6 foot, over 65 and having minor balance issues the cottage is not the place to stay. Pictures are flattering.
- Joanne (8/5): Handy to Ratho golf. - Rustic. Quaint. Needs some maintenance. Needs a flag on front door to show door height.
- Matthew (4/5): Won’t book again, not what the photos show - The smell when we walked in was very strong. A smell of dampness. The bath is rusting and delaminating, we couldn’t put the kids in there. Stairs are very steep.
- Ruth (9/5): Superb -
- Alison (9/5): Superb - Perfect stay with comfort combined with authentic style for the historic region.
- Deirdre (10/5): Exceptional - Absolutely gorgeous blend of historic and modern styling. Very comfortable, clean and close to everything. Nothing! Loved it all.
- Tracey (8/5): Beautiful home, lots of history - Amazing piece of history that is great to stay a couple of nights.
Very comfortable beds and loved the loft bedrooms Stairs are quite steep and only full bathroom is upstairs
- Yianni (10/5): Exceptional -
- Cathy (9/5): Superb - The nostalgia of the place was so good
- Marianne (9/5): Whites corner - The accommodation is quirky but everything was there that we needed. There was nothing we didn't like.
- Marianne (9/5): Superb - It was lovely heritage accommodation. Quite place to stay. We enjoyed it. Clean and comfortable.
- Kylie (7/5): Very quiet and comfortable - The house was lovely for what it was Mould under sink on shelf and outside light not working
- Alexander (9/5): Superb -
- Sandra (7/5): Enjoyable - It was very cute. But very cold. No lights outside for downstairs toilet. Steps very steep to get upstairs
- Sarah (9/5): Cute historic cottage - It was a lovely historic cottage, in a great location, comfortable with all amenities necessary. I would give housekeeping a bit of a pep talk - bins in the kitchen hadn't been emptied, bed in the second bedroom hadn't been made (we weren't using it so no problem but it would be a bit off if we were) and there was only one toilet roll. Apart from that the place was great!
- Adam (7/5): Good -
- Chris (8/5): Enjoyed it - The ambience and the comfortable beds The couch was too low for me to get up off. I sat on kitchen chair to watch tv
- Catherine (9/5): Superb -
- Kim (7/5): Clean & pleasant. Amazing to learn of the history of this once busy cluster of buildings! - Could have been informed that bathroom was upstairs - I am challenged
No light for outside toilet
- Melissa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Brett (10/5): great place to consider when travelling through central Tasmania - this property is full of history (and maybe a ghost ??) and was a major building/business in the towns past. The owners have done a great job maintaining the character of the building and installing some modern facilities - it is a bit quirky, but we loved it no complaints
- Vince (10/5): A very old house with particular renovation improvements in a good location - We love old historic homes and this place certainly ticked all the boxes for us. Going on 200 years old it should be preserved as a historic home for cultural viewing in our opinion. For us staying here overnight, experiencing the feel of the place and looking through all the associated outbuildings was the experience of a lifetime. What was there not to like.
- Phillip (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joanna (6/5): Pleasant - Location was perfect. AND very clean and COMFORTABLE The tap in bathroom. Spider webs on ceiling. Decor dated
- Florence (6/5): Really decrepit - The vintage interior is a pleasant surprise and the house was perfectly clean BUT … We stayed in an old decrepit building which is not the one advertised on the cover picture of this place. While the history of the building next door is interesting … the building itself is in need of serious refurbishment. I would definitely not recommend, I was ashamed to take my parents there.
- Claire (8/5): Fabulous - definitely worth a night in Bothwell. - great old cottage in amazing little town.
well set up
lovely library of old interesting books would have been great to have tips of where to eat /local suggestions
- Paul (6/5): Pleasant -
- Catherine (9/5): Superb -
- Fiona (7/5): Good -
- Malcolm (7/5): Old and interesting but…….. - We were in the older wooden building that was partly restored. Interesting interior but not up to ‘modern’ standards except the small bathroom.
The exterior was scruffy. The ‘project’ needs to be finished.
- Nigel (8/5): Very good -
- Anonymous (10/5): Wonderfull, reminiscent of 80 years ago with grandma. All should experience this. - We stayed in 2 bedroom cottage circ 1837 which has been beautifully restored by owner who has added the convenience of some modern furniture. The real surprise was in the bathroom adding to the quirkiness of the cottage. Outdoors was true country original outbuildings complete with rabbits under the fruit trees. There was nothing to ‘not like’
- Chris (9/5): Superb -
- Louise (10/5): Great location, clean, warm, tastefully decorated with heritage photos of property - Located in the middle of this little village, close to everything.
- Gemma (8/5): Perfect country town getaway with so much charm - Such a great place ... we met friends here from interstate. Perfect place to hang out and a short walk to the local pub for great meal
- Robert (7/5): Good -
- Mark (8/5): Beautiful Autumn frosty stay in Bothwell in cute historic house. - Cute historic home. Good heating once it was up to speed. Nice communal space, great shower. Loved the exposed brickwork and preserved timber door. Soft spongy mattress, side gate dragging on ground, cold house to start the stay
- Photosalegria (5/5): Passable - All essential kitchen/bathroom equipment was supplied. Everything was neat & clean & of good quality. The TV didn't function.
There was no electric blanket on the double bed although advertised.
I couldn't use the sofa in the living room because it sank so much in the middle that I had to get help to stand up from it.
- Andrea (8/5): A great night with lots of history. - we liked the history and age of the cottage. The Reno was fab and still kept old world charm. the bathroom tap was not at all practical.
- Chris (7/5): Good - It's a nice little town with much history. Towns folk were very friendly. It was close to drive to other destinations we also wanted to see. It's a pity Whites corner hasn't been further developed in its present format, certainly not for everyone.
The cottage we had for our stay would present a challenge for a lot of people who have mobility issues.
- Geoff (9/5): A brief stay in a historical location. - Loved the history of the place. great location a short distance from the friendly pub. Bumped head a few time on low doorways and ceiling over toilet.
- Fiona (10/5): well presented piece of history, comfortable and clean -
- John (8/5): Good clean accommodation where you self cater. - Bothwell was on the way to our final destination, and a great historic town to stop at on the way. Historic building (1837) treated with respect for its restoration. Low ceiling, but this was just something to be aware of. Tap in bathroom vanity was unusual and could easily result in water on the floor.
- Christine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Helen (9/5): Superb -
- Roger (9/5): A lot of fun in a cleverly renovated very old cottage. Very clean and quirky. - This was a surprise. An 1827 cottage with full use of the cottage facilities. Located a short walk to the local pub for dinner. There are low doorways and ceilings in some areas so not suited to everybody but we enjoyed the experience. Everything was great for what it was. A cleverly renovated very old cottage. Quite a few nice surprises. We loved it but had to remind ourselves of low doorways.
- Dianne (8/5): Very good - Not applicable.. Happy all round
- Penelope (9/5): Superb -
- Sandy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (10/5): Great place to stay . - The way it had been renovated. We stayed in cottage 2 and the door to the bathroom was very low ( easy to hit your head)
- Tim (9/5): Stay was very comfortable and easy access to hotel and shops. - Cottage is very comfortable.
Beds are also very comfortable and the whole package was great value for money. Nothing to report on what we didn't like.
- Mark (9/5): Superb - uniqueness of an old place the photos are off the main place, not the cabin off to the side
- Lara (4/5): Definitely was an experience, but would not choose to stay here again. - Staying in a building with that much history and the age of the building was amazing. The photos displayed around the rooms really help show the history. Unfortunately we felt the lack of detail to finishes, decorations and pest control did let the place down. A lot of maintenance is needed within the stay and the outside areas. The place could be amazing with proper renovations and a big clean up of the outside.
- Julia (8/5): Very good -
- Ridley (10/5): Exceptional - There was no breakfast, its a beautiful old house that i have a connection with. Mary White nee Allen is a great aunt several
Times maybe 4. There is a beautiful kitchen with a warm log fire. You bring you own food to cook your own meals on a big cooking range. The bedrooms are gorgious and comfy. Everything about it is more than excellent. We loved it and we will be back for more. Nothing
- Gary (8/5): Very good -
- Christine (1/5): middle of no where - nothing as we didn’t even stay!
owner had the heater on for us which was nice. the beds where presented quite well and looked cozy thought we where staying in the main house, ended up being a cottage next to the main house. I my fiancé and I couldn’t even walk though the door way without hitting our heads. the cottage did seem kind of creepy with all the other cottages atriums the back.
there is nothing around here to get breaks dinner or any kind of food. says there are super stores a pub and cafe, however there is nothing there! the super store is more like a general store with 1 of everything in it. when I asked the lady at the super store she told me they eat frozen meals here and if I wanted dinner I would need to drive 45min back towards Hobart.
due to this we didn’t even stay at the properly and had to book another hotel in Hobart to be able to eat. there is nothing to do nor see around here.
we where meant to stayed here for a wedding at ratho farm a few minutes away however due to all of this we drove back to Hobart and booked a hotel there so we could at least have food and things to do for the 3 days we where there.
to stay here you definitely need to be brining your own food and drink supplys to cook if you’re wanting to stay.
- Trish (7/5): Good -
- David (9/5): Stepping back in time - whites corner is a heritage property and so unique. It was like stepping back in time. Still little things to do and the bloody front door is only 175cm tall so I kept hitting my head but overall fantastic beautiful property worth staying at. I didn’t like only staying 1 night should have been more and the bathroom basin tap.
- Jodi (9/5): Welcoming comfortable well appointed little cottage. - Great little home, warm and interesting Vanity tap, coffee
- Michelle (8/5): Very good - We thought we booked the one in photo but got cottage beside yellow house very comfortable cottage . But a bit confusing on booking .
