- George (9/5): Quiet location, had everything that we needed. Wished we were able to stay longer. - Fully renovated 2 bedroom house. Comfortable beds with ensuites for each bedroom. Large spacious kitchen, stools and modern appliances. The family and dinning rooms were beautiful decorated spacious and comfortable. Had everything that we needed. Old weather board home fully renovated and close drive to shops.
- Dean (10/5): The property was exactly as promised. I would highly recommend it and stay there again any time - The property was fantastic. Everything was well laid out, very comfortable, and relaxing. Both bedrooms have their own bathroom, which was great. It was very warm and welcoming. The driveway is quite narrow and a bit difficult to back in or out of. But there is lots of room on the verge to park.
- Anne (10/5): Beautiful property in central Castlemaine - Everything was spotless. The host has added extra touches which made the stay very comfortable. We were visiting our daughter and we were more than happy with this property. We will definitely stay here again. Nothing
- Ross (9/5): - Beautiful old house with all amenities needed for a peaceful 2 night stay
- Melinda (10/5): Beautifully maintained property with every amenity you’ll need. - What a delightful property. The hosts are so organised, thoughtful, and great communicators. The facilities are exceptional. Spotlessly clean, beautiful layout and the most comfortable beds! Zero notes. Perfect.
- Emma (9/5): Charming house in beautiful Castlemaine - A very charming, comfortable and well appointed house in a lovely setting. About a 20 minute walk from town. Very nice bushland behind, for cycling or walking. Would happily return for a longer stay. Nothing in particular
- Nancy (9/5): A most relaxing stay. - A beautiful period cottage, very clean, an excellent kitchen and comfortable bed. The lounge furniture, sofa was not comfortable.
- Amber (9/5): -
- CHUNG WAI (10/5): Lives up to its name! Elegant and luxurious place - Well-located and near the historic street, places of interest (Art Museum, churches, historic street, etc), groceries. Spacious standalone single-storey house which is luxuriously decorated with carpets, beautiful hard wood furniture, comfy sofas, indoor plants, wall art. Large well-equipped kitchen with a kitchen island, two ovens and a microwave, dishwasher and fridge. Both bedrooms have attached bathrooms, one with a spa bath. Great WiFi speed ! Air-conditioning (warm or cold) in the living area and all bedrooms. Ceiling heaters in all the bathrooms. Parking within the compound of the property. Nothing I can think of !
- Earl (10/5): - Absolutley loved our stay. We appreciated the 2 double beds as hubby and I sleep.in different beds. The house was beautiful and the kitchen was amazing. We didn't not like anything but thought maybe a different couch to sit on would be better. It wasn't really comfortable to sit on.
- Gary (10/5): Ideal accommodation for two couples beautiful accommodation - Good quality accommodation, comfortable , clean and well stocked. Everything you needed if you wanted to self cater Nothing really
- JoMurray (10/5): A very special getaway - Two spacious bedrooms with very comfortable queen sized beds, each with their own en suite which is a rare find. The front bedroom has the shower and the rear bedroom has the spa bath with a shower over the bath. BYO coathangers if you're planning to hang a few items of clothing. There were 3 hangers in the rear bedroom wardrobe along with extra warm blankets.
The reverse cycle AC systems work well to heat the house throughout. We enjoyed a morning cuppa on the sunny deck out the back and the spacious adjoining living / dining area in the evening.
This house is very special, with beautiful furnishings and fittings, and a large modern kitchen. Just be sure to bring kitchen essentials including oil, ground coffee and loose tea if that's your thing. Salt and pepper and instant coffee, sugar and tea bags are provided. There is a lovely big tea pot and coffee plunger provided.
Depending on your fitness and mobility it's a fair walk out of the town centre and a solid uphill walk on the way back. It's located near the lovely Buda Homestead and beautiful bushland for a walk.
We appreciated the friendly responsiveness of our host, fell in love with Castlemaine and surrounds and would absolutely love to stay again.
- Rob (9/5): Very relaxing stay in a super environment - All amenities provided in a very comfortable and elegant retreat, easily accessible to retail & hospitality areas, but away from any noisy hustle & bustle
- Evie (10/5): Great place - We all really enjoyed our stay here. The place was lovely and warm, as well as close to the main part of town. Would happily stay again.
- Judith (10/5): We cannot stop thinking about how comfortable our 6 night stay here was. A must if travelling this way again. - We loved the warmth, spaciousness and homeliness combined with the kitchen and laundry facilities. There were great shower and bathroom facilities also. The best thing was the gas log fire. Just brilliant! We can’t think of a thing. However I would have loved a wall mirror in my bedroom and a small.magnifying mirror in the bathroom.
- Pauline (9/5): - It was well equipped, comfortable and full of charm Just a little to far a walk from town
- Elizabeth (10/5): We’re planning our next return trip here. - AMAZING!!!!
We went as a girls time away and it was so nice to find a property with two bedrooms and ensuites each. It was winter but we came into a warm property with a clean and very presentable house in which we settled into relaxing very quickly. We try to get away each school holidays and this is a ‘must-return’ to property. The location was a little too far to walk and get our morning coffee so we had to rely on instant coffee. A coffee machine would have been great. The kitchen is newly renovated and so clean. The driveway is rustic and a little tricky to get in and out of in the dark but the gravel just adds to the period of the property. Thank you for a lovely warm and cosy get-away. Nothing.
- John (9/5): A great base for a stay in Castlemaine - Excellent condition. Great facilities. Good heating in cold weather. Nothing worthy of mention.
- Ian (10/5): Fantastic property to stay at to enjoy Castlemaine and the surrounding area. - The house is lovely. It has period features, great spaces and was fantastic to stay at. The house has been renovated and has all modern features. The kitchen is great and is kitted out well so that you can cook pretty much what you want.
- Joy (10/5): This property exceeded all our expectations. We really enjoyed our stay. - Everything was perfect :) Absolutely nothing.
- Stok (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kerrie (9/5): Fantastic peaceful escape in a lovely period home - Code for lock box was messaged to us and was super easy then to get keys and access on our own time. The home is beautifully renovated with lovely period features. Peaceful location with lovely outdoor space. Fantastic kitchen with everything you needed! Spa bath was a nice relaxing extra Car parking was a bit awkward but definitely manageable. All furniture & decor was lovely period pieces thoughtfully put together. I found the mattress a bit firm for me.
- Anne (9/5): Relaxing stay in quaint Victorian Villa - Beautifully appointed house , 5 minutes drive from town centre. We stayed for 3 nights and made good use of the well equipped kitchen .
- O'connor (9/5): Fantastic, quiet and comfortable place to stay very close to town centre. - Clean and comfortable. Car access and parking off the street. Close to main street of town. Kitchen facilities quite good. No breakfast option in package - would be great to have a basket of basic breakfast starters available such as milk, bread, butter and eggs.
No coffee pod machine - would be nice to be able to stay in and enjoy a fresh latte with friends rather than having to go out for coffee! Not a big issue. Overall was amazing.
- Rae (8/5): Very good -
- Kathryn (8/5): Charming weekend away - Charming and spacious cottage in a quiet location close to town. Comfy beds, large kitchen, dining and lounge area. Both bedrooms with ensuites.
- Rod (9/5): Comfortable and convenient at a reasonable tarrif. - This house was ideal for 2 mature couples, with 2 bedrooms each with ensuites and plenty of space for socialising, dining and relaxing.
Interiors are a lively blend of various styles. Close to bushland, nice local cafe on Doveton St corner. Little through traffic means quiet streets.
Kitchen is fully equipped, enabling cooking & dining in (lucky as in-town dining options were limited early in the week). But this raises expectations, with cooks not finding egg cups or a seive! (but plenty of everything else). Good air conditioning, which was necessary with very hot weather. Did someone mention egg cups?
- Georgia (10/5): Beautiful period property in Castlemaine perfect for a small group getaway - This house was spotlessly clean, the beds were very comfortable and it’s just such a beautiful place to stay! The host has great communication as well, would highly recommend choosing this property for your stay. Nothing! Everything is perfect
- Mitchell (7/5): Great location and plenty of space. - Great location, plenty of space and well equipped kitchen. The bathrooms were great too, spa bath was a nice addition. There was 2 half drank cartons of milk in the fridge. We had to run out early on our first morning to get milk for coffee from the IGA as we had no idea what was in the milk cartons or how long it had been open. Also the couches were THE most uncomfortable couches I have sat on at any accomodation. Old, small and itchy, we had to put blankets over the couch cushions to make it somewhat comfortable. That was the only big let down of the place but pretty annoying when you want to relax and watch a movie.
- Geraldine (8/5): Very good -
- Jeanette (9/5): Characterful accommodation in a quiet and convenient location - Very roomy, well equipped, quiet and convenient location
- Margaret (8/5): Very good - Good location and a lovely house. The sofa was quite uncomfortable and the upholstery scratchy.
- Vicki (10/5): See above - The property is in a great location and beautifully appointed A fun place to stay in Castlemaine
- Peter (10/5): Excellent kitchen facilities and open-plan living provided the perfect space to self-cater and relax. - Homely. Two bedrooms with en suites make for comfort and convenience.
- Stephanie (8/5): Great location and good facilities. It was very peaceful and we’d stay again. - Great location, nice period home and good facilities. The couches were very worn out and looked unclean, so it was not enjoyable to use the lounge room - new couches would really elevate the experience. There was also a smell of cigarettes.
- Jason (8/5): Great wine and food with my buddy in awesome accomodations. - I loved the bed and the spa tub. The water pressure was a bit low and the 10 am checkout was a bit early. Loved the place and the guy who called was very nice.
- Sarah (9/5): Great location, easy to get to everything we wanted to see. Stuck switch on the rangehood. -
- Michael (9/5): We loved our stay at the Elegant Goldfields Retreat. The house has a warm, welcoming feel with a nice blend of old and n - Lots of space and natural light with a nice mix of old and modern features. Water pressure was a bit low.
- Judy (8/5): Very good -
- Daniel (10/5): Easy and enjoyable - Very homely with a modern touch
- Lyn (9/5): comfy cosy cottage easy walk to town centre - Lovely and warm when we arrived late on a frosty winter night. spacious comfortable and well equipped kitchen. we appreciated the extra blanket in the wardrobe!
original features are a nice touch. easy walk to Main Street . very relaxing- we will return. we expected a pod coffee machine- pretty standard at this price point.
- Suzanne (10/5): Had a beautiful relaxing getaway & enjoyed the sights we saw. - Charming property. Presented beautifully & very clean. Comfortable beds, well appointed kitchen & extremely roomy which was great as we went there in winter so spent a lot of time on & in the property.. Lovely decked outdoor area. Close to town centre Couch in living room could probably be updated. While I do like a soft comfortable sofa this one offered little support. We are on the older side (early 60’s) & found we sank down so low it was a little difficult to get up off it
- Serene (10/5): Five stars! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 - It is a lovely warm and cosy house. The location was quiet and peaceful. The house was sparkling clean when we arrived. The house is walking distance from town with cafe nearby.
- Amy (9/5): Charming and very clean accommodation in peaceful location, would definitely return! - Charming accommodation, exceptionally clean. Host friendly and available to offer support if needed. Modern and functional kitchen. Tastefully decorated, quaint outdoor area and garden. In a peaceful location with great proximity to bush reserve and close drive or walk to town. Only a couple of minor issues: spa drainage (slow to drain), split systems seemed to lack efficiency (especially in second bedroom) but okay if turned on early.
- Julie (7/5): Spacious, gracious castlemaine - Spaciousness and graciousness. Views. Sparklingly clean. Not much. Maybe a spare blanket and electric blankets would be nice in winter
- Jenny (10/5): Exceptional - The house was thoughtfully appointed. Everything we required, we found - right down to an umbrella in case of rain. The house was warm and inviting and we felt very welcome.
- Peter (9/5): Lovely period-style accommodation in Castlemaine. Thank you. - We enjoyed the period-style renovation that has been done to the house. It exuded old world charm and elegance. The bed we slept in was very comfortable and the ensuite bathroom was well equipped. The kitchen is large and modern but doesn't look out of place with the rest of the house. The second bedroom, which we did not use, has a second ensuite with a spa. There are numerous split-system heater/coolers located round the house and they are a necessity on cold Castlemaine mornings. The wifi was fine and we were able to log into our TV streaming account/s on the TV without issue. Location wise, the house is in a quiet area of Castlemaine and not too far a walk to the centre of town if you felt like it. Thanks, kindly, for sharing your property with us. Kind regards, Peter & Judy The period features of the house made it special to stay in but perhaps a few more photos/knick-knacks might have made it feel a bit more "homely". This will be easily fixed. Heating the house to a comfortable level on cold mornings/evenings takes a while too, so it pays to plan ahead a bit. The middle two, of the lovely four-fold glass doors that open from the entrance hall into the TV/Lounge/dining area, are not latched in any way so they tend to swing open on their own and let heat out. Again, this can be easily fixed. Minor quibbles, really.
- Graham (10/5): Great house. Comfortable accomodation. - Beautifully appointed. Spacious and comfortable. Great kitchen. Could do with bed side tables in second bedroom, but not essential.
- Rebecca (10/5): Beautiful retreat not too far from town - We really enjoyed our stay here. The house was comfortable and clean with lots of great features. Friendly and helpful host. Easy access to town.
- Rod (9/5): Suitable for our short business stay and would have enjoyed staying longer and exploring the area - Quiet location and bird life. Comfortable and everything we needed
- Suzanne (9/5): I would happily stat there again on another visit to Castlemaine. - The house was beautifully presented and spotlessly clean. Te bed was extremely comfortable . Location a little out of the way. We would have preferred to be nearer to the town centre.
- Ron (9/5): Very comfortable and plenty of room for two couples. - Very spacious and well-appointed. Good outdoor and BBQ area. TV needs updating.
