- David (6/5): Nice location but the property is a work in progress - Location of the property to the town center and the Chesterfield Canal which we were walking. Parking was easy on the street outside the front door and around the side. The property is in a poor state of decoration both inside and out with damp stains on the ceiling and hall wall on the first floor. Damp smell in the front and rear entrance areas. The carpet in the lounge entrance area and in the door opening between the lounge and rear room is screwed down in places with the screw heads proud of the carpet, the hosts asked us not to wear shoes in the property to protect the carpet but when you stood on the screw heads it did'nt half hurt; we eventually used books to cover the screw heads. First floor hot water was intermittent in the bathroom, there is a ground floor bathroom and the hot water was good there. We notified the host that there were no tea towels on the first day and despite being told the cleaners would drop some off for us, none arrived so we bought our own. The windows are only single glazed and the road noise was an issue with some of our party.
- Doug (7/5): - Location was pretty central to places we wanted to visit, and close to shops. Didn't appreciate screws sticking out of the carpet in the main front room.
In description we were told it was a 5 bed house. We could only find four, plus the two front rooms. We are presuming the washing machine is plumbed in the elusive 5th bedroom as there was no sign of a washing machine either.
- Kevin (6/5): Everyone thought it worked for us but a lot of work needed. - It is clear that at some point in the past the Hollies was split into 3 separate apartments and Brendan and Sarah have had a huge job in rejoining two of these and decorating to give the present spacious holiday let. Places this size are hard to find in the area and this was at a reasonable price too. New carpets and hard flooring, what seemed to be new comfortable mattresses in all the bedrooms, a selection of new white goods in the upstairs kitchen, reliable broadband and constant hot water from the two boilers, new bathroom fittings all added to the comfort. However, this is definitely a work in progress with a great deal still to do. While some of the defects in the section below need attention, the house fulfilled our needs and we enjoyed our stay, so do consider it Retford is an interesting town to visit and was ideally situated for events we were attending. The first impressions of the property are not good. The gate so rusted away it serves no purpose, the garden uncared for, fencing collapsing and a beaten up front door all give a sense of dilapidation. The outside bin was full to overflowing and had not been emptied for some time judging by the smell and the flies. The refuse lorry came early the day after we arrived and if we had known we would have put it out. Because of this we could not empty the kitchen bin during our stay and we brought the recycling home with us.
Inside the house, the old defunct dishwasher needs taking out along with the cooker hoods which have no filters and just blow everything straight back into the kitchen. Some of the crockery and cutlery needed to go straight back into the dishwasher. We found that the generously sized dinner plates can stop the spray bar from spinning so this may be the cause of poorly washed crockery. Among the minor annoyances were the leaking kitchen sink plug leaking (and no washing-up bowl), the lack of some basic stuff such as a tea pot and cafetière, and toilet seats that won't stay up.
The bedrooms each had a hanging rail but nowhere else to put clothes.
Road noise was intrusive but we were there on a very hot week and all windows were wide open. It did quieten down as the evening progressed.
- Elizabeth (6/5): Met our needs for our stay. - Good location, very comfortable beds The building is very old and could do with some maintenance. Garden isn’t particularly somewhere you would want to sit and relax.
- William (10/5): Perfect for what we were looking for and will definitely book again - This accommodation was idea for myself and my colleagues, close to all amenities, clean and tidy, beds were comfortable and it had everything we needed would definitely book again Everything we needed was at the property so there’s nothing not to like.
- Lee (7/5): - The beds were so comfy, bedding fresh and bouncy. Living room settee very comfy. Kitchen fully equipped with a dishwasher and large fridge/freezer. Great location. Kings Park a 5 min walk. I was clean, but it needs a bit of TLC. There was a musky smell in the hall and bottom of the stairs. This needs addressing as it could be off-putting.

- Carol (9/5): Very pleasant, we would book this property again. - The location was good for us, near family. And a short walk into town. Our hosts left bread , milk, etc for us which was very nice of them. Good facilities, and plenty of room. Would have liked to have been able to check in before 4o,clock, as we had had a long journey, perhaps I could have asked our hosts if this would have been possible.
- Yeung (8/5): - Lovely host. Location is walkable from the train station. Beds are very clean and comfortable.
Great value for the number of us staying. The building needs a bit of TLC.
- Rowena (7/5): -
- Norma (10/5): - It was clean and big We were one family but two different households so I would say put a telly upstairs
- Arjan (8/5): Prima!
- Sabur (3/5): Decent location, not suitable for families unless owner spends time and effort to give a thorough clean - Number of bedrooms Very dirty, kitchen had lots of insects stuck by the lighting. Considering children were with us this was absolutely a major issue
- Hassan (9/5): Great service thanks -
- Maureen (8/5): Pleasant - Plenty of room Traffic noise
- Smith (9/5): - Helpful host
Comfy beds
Bread milk and cereals etc provided
