Guest Reviews
- Tank & Co (10/5): Lovely location on the banks of the Tamar - We love this location & its our 2nd visit. We hope to visit again. The location is superb, you can sit and watch the tides, wildlife & boats/canoes etc for hours. The village itself is bustling & has useful amenities including 2 pubs which open weds-sunday plus a cafe & ice cream parlour next door (seasonal hours updated online). The accommodation is very cosy with heating plus log burner, comfortable (dog bed also provided) & clean with all you need & some carefully planned upgrades have been completed over the winter months. Loved it š Leaving - again
- Frw15 (10/5): Tranquillity in Calstock - The cottage was beautiful, very cosy, and the bed was so comfy. It was so tranquil to wake up in the morning with a coffee and watch the ducks on the river. The location is perfect close to the local pubs and shops and also further afield to explore other places in Cornwall. Highly recommend this place. On arrival, the host had left us wine beer and snacks, which was welcomed after our long drive from Wales to help us unwind Nothing
- Denise (8/5): Nice relaxing break with our dogs. - Lovely location quiet, but pub, ice cream shop, and coffee shop a few yards away. Great walks nearby. Parking a bit of an issue( not the hosts fault) Shower was useless.
- jane (10/5): Another enjoyable visit. We will return ! - Another lovely stay ! Always cosy and such a comfortable bed. A beautiful view from the patio and we enjoyed watching the boats and wildlife, especially the swans and their signets. There is a slipway just meters from the cottage to use for paddleboarding or kayaking. As It has been very hot itās been very handy to have a lovely ice cream shop in the village (we recommend the Kernow Gold !) A great location and we visited Lydford Gorge and Devils cauldron and also found the beautiful church on the rock at Brentor. We also used the train station in the village to visit Plymouth. So much to do ! A small microwave would have been handy
- joe (8/5): very enjoyable . liked the village and the people - Great location and fantastic views not a big deal but had to put lights on during the day as it's dark in some of the rooms
- Andy (9/5): A great location for a relaxing break away from it all. - The property is in a great location in the centre of Calstock. The rear of the property backed directly onto the river Tamar with a lovely outlook to the fields on the other side of the river, the railway viaduct and all that was happening on the river. The seating area here was great with some comfortable outdoor seats to enjoy a drink and watch the river go by. The kitchen was well appointed and the bed was very comfortable. The TV with the Firestick was easy to access. There was a space to park the car opposite the front of the property. The shower area was a little dated but was perfectly adequate.
- Matthew (10/5): We came away for my partners birthday to spend 4 days in the beautiful part of the country that is Cornwall. We stumbled - The property was located in a beautiful little town with a picturesque view from the garden.
On arrival you instantly find yourself at home with the cozy and clean features.
The host was very helpful from before the stay to after we checked out, from directions to filling the cottage with birthday balloons for my partners birthday. There is nothing I didnāt like about the property.
- Trish (10/5): Dog friendly and perfect for a romantic break. - Beautiful location with amazing view. Convenient, easy and free parking. Nicely decorated and the bath on the patio was a lovely treat!
- Mandy (10/5): Highly recommended. Could imagine living there very happily. - Lovely place for a break. The walk to Cotehele and back made a perfect day out. Lots to explore in the local area. The views up and down the river, complete with the outstanding viaduct are stunning. Friendly locals, including some cats, pizza night on Wednesday, breakfasts at the Lishe cafe highly recommended too! We should have booked a longer break as we didnāt want to leave. Likely to message the owner to check out the brand of mattress as so comfortable!
- Rebecca (10/5): The most beautiful stay, we will be back āŗļø - Everything, it was absolutely perfect. All the extra touches quirky little spaces very well thought out and so considerate of every need and the dogs, we loved it and didn't want to leave! ā¤ļø The value for money was actually fantastic! Only one thing but thats more personal preference to us is a slightly larger sofa for two to be able to lay down in the evenings and watch a film āŗļø
- Lauren (10/5): Fantastic week in a beautiful apartment! - We loved The Waterbaby! It was perfect for us as a family of three. Itās got everything you need and we loved that there was some tea bags and milk in the fridge for when we arrived, along with some other treats. The beds are very comfortable and our son loved the mezzanine bed. The whole apartment is spotless. Itās in a great location - our son was at a swim camp in Tavistock and we found it really central for exploring Devon and Cornwall as itās on the boarder. We made use of outdoor hot bath too, which was fantastic extra. Weāll absolutely come back. Itās a stunning location and the views from the patio are incredible. Thank you! Nothing!
- Tania (9/5): Cosy, relaxing and fun! The new features such as the extended double bedroom and hot tub added luxury and entertainment! - I absolutely love this holiday home - itās a real gem!
- Christine (8/5): Great accommodation in lovely location. Mezzanineābedā could be improved - Lovely accommodation with great location. Self catering accommodation which had everything my friend and I needed to cook for a couple of days whilst we met up. Milk, biscuits, chocolate, tea, coffee etc lovely touch. Clean and tidy. We used the garden bath - took a long time to fill up and get hot and then was too hot to get in but we eventually enjoyed lying out looking at the stars. Location and view from the little garden lovely great for walking and watching the birds. We were 2 friends meeting up wanting to use the bed in the mezzanine and it would have been great if there had been a duvet up there - just a blanket didnāt make it feel like a bed. I found it difficult to find the lane and my car is quite large so parking was quite difficult for my car. Apart from just the couple of above things we loved this accommodation Jack was helpful when we couldnāt get the water hot and intend to return in the future with my husband and have already given information to my friends. Thanks Jack
- Joe (8/5): Generally we enjoyed it. - Pity there was no milk bread . We came by train
- Sue (9/5): Glorious location, beautiful property and blessed with sunshine! - The location is marvellous and the views fabulous. Lovely location
- Emily (9/5): Superb - Very peaceful location, very clean and spotless. Great bed very cozy. Beautiful views
Also allows petsš¾š¶
Great hosts! Thanks There was no microwave, and no spotlight outside to use the patio area. The car park outside the apartment was a little bit confusing hard to find
- Coburn (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jim (9/5): We really enjoyed the property. Found the narrow roads tricky for first time UK drivers. Jack, our host was very helpful - Beautiful location right on the river. Very clean and well furnished. Close to a nice pub for meals and a drink. Nice walking trail close by. We found the parking tricky because of the limited access in the parking lot. The large van parked beside our spot was tricky to get around. No fault of our hosts.
- Herb (9/5): Amazing location, comfortable property - Spectacular & beautiful location with stunning views of countryside, tidal river & amazing viaduct. Thriving village community with great pub, pasty cellar, cafe & many other amenities very close by. River walks & wildlife surround this well equipped & comfortable property, the log burner meant we didnt use other heating. Loved our stay. Definitely leaving
- Tania (9/5): Wonderful experience! Relaxing and calmā¦.We didnāt want to leave! - Fabulous location! So interesting to watch the ebb and flow of the tidal river and the boats and paddle boards going past. Loved the log burner and indoor living space and the cosy and contemporary furnishings A little maintenance needed in places and master bedroom a bit small with limited hanging space for clothes.
- Teresa (8/5): Beautiful location for walkers, but check opening times for pubs and restaurants - Location, outside deck, and stupendous view. Close to rail and bus. The shower (although be careful with the steps). Great walking. Our booking.com details said "private pool", but we didn't see this, which was puzzling. No microwave, poor ventilation without opening the back doors (which allowed surprise access to a rather aggressive local cat!), and very small double bedroom. In need of TLC and repair in places. We arrived on a Saturday evening and were lucky enough to secure a booking in The Boot restaurant (good food but we waiting nearly an hour for it). The local pub closed at 22.00 (on a Saturday! Everyone local appeared to be in the Social Club opposite, but that is Members Only). On Sunday neither pub nor The Boot were open, so for those (like us) without a car this was a problem.
All in all we thought it was overpriced compared to the 6 other places we stayed during our holiday.
The instructions to find the place are for those arriving by car (and taking the one-way system), not train (no need to walk around the one-way system), which confused us until a couple of kind locals sorted us out.
- Anna (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely stay with my mother visiting family nearby. Gorgeous location and place to stay. Parking opposite the property and well equipped. Great local pubs, shops and walks along the riverbank.
- Louise (9/5): Fantastic place to stay, beautiful setting over looking estray, lovely little quaint Cornish village - Fantastic location, great village. Inside the property very clean great layout, and space works really well. Comfy double bed Outside decking area not cleaned, cobwebs everywhere, outside storage bench dirty, just need more effect on cleaning outside area as spent more time outside then in due to great weather
- Stephen (9/5): Superb - Location excellent. Beds extremely comfortable. Just what we wanted. Had a superb break and Calstock is such an idyllic place Some parts of outside decking need repairs as parts are loose. Would have been nice for solar lights on decking to work.
- Jackie (8/5): Absolutely loved our stay, would definitely consider choosing The Waterbaby again. - Very clean and lovely decor. Location by the river was excellent and really enjoyed sitting on the terrace, looking out over the river with a nice cold glass of wine or beer. Loved that the towels and items for washing up were provided as this has never been the case with anywhere we have stayed before. Lack of microwave. Living room couch and chair looked nice but were not overly comfortable when sitting in front of the TV first an evening. The main bedroom was literally only just bigger than the bed, so moving around was awkward. But given the property layout, there was nothing else that could be done to make it bigger. For 2 people staying, the second bedroom would be used for storage and a dressing room, so would be fine.
- Karen (9/5): Superb -
- Marcelle (10/5): A really comfortable home-from-home with fabulous views in a lovely village - This location was perfect for our needs. We loved the riverside location and the viaduct views and the outdoor deck was a perfect place to watch the ducks and the boats with a coffee in the morning and a glass of wine at night. The decor is lovely, lots of lovely thoughtful design details that made us feel very comfortable and at home. The location is great with a short walk to local cafes and two nice friendly pubs and we appreciated being able to park directly outside the property. Jack is a great host with wonderful and timely communication. We really enjoyed our stay. Nothing!
- Sarah (10/5): Beautiful location. Lovely place to stay - Lovely location
Parking space
Good facilities The double bedroom was a little tight
- Jill (8/5): Very good - Lovely accommodation that is very well presented. Feels like the hosts have thought of everything to make the stay very pleasant. The welcome gifts were appreciated we would love to visit again. Bathroom unusual layout
- Ffion (8/5): This riverside let is perfectly located in a delightful village. - This apartment is in an idyllic location, the view of the river and viaduct from the deck is just perfect. A great place to sit and read or watch as ducks, rowing gigs and paddle boarders go past. we didn't see the pool mentioned in the details, maybe it was affected by the river being in spate.
Having had a last minute change of plan and arrived by train rather than by car, so the proximity of the pub and cafƩ was a godsend.
There is pretty much everything here to make an enjoyable stay - we organised a food delivery on the first night for the staples - though fresh milk had been left in the fridge and the chocolate treat was a nice gesture. There were just a couple of minor things. On the instructions for finding the property there was a description of window and door frames being painted in a colour which was wrong, they must have repainted and not updated the instructions. The log burner had logs in the basket and more outside but we couldn't find any kindling, the weather was kind and the fire wasn't needed and I am sure that we could have sorted something out but it would be nice to have everything to hand.
These are the smallest niggles to point out - we be more than happy to stay here again.
