Guest Reviews
- Aileen (5/5): Disappointing. Please make sure descriptions are accurate and apply to all rooms. - The large bathroom In your description of the property you say “each room has a balcony” which is not the case- we had an extremely compact attic room with height restrictions (my husband is 1.88m) and no balcony or views which you also mention.
There are over 40 steep stairs up to the room which also might be worth mentioning.
- Wendy (10/5): - We stayed in Du Barry room, which has a lovely ambience about it, overlooking the town and having a wonderful roll top bath. The bed was very comfortable, with beautiful furniure and decor. It was toasty warm and relaxing. Situated well for the shops, restaurants and the beautiful park . Parking is tricky as you have to pay even on Sundays.
- Claire (8/5): -
- Karen (6/5): really enjoyed apart from the disturb nights sleep - Really good location to town and car park The only complaint i have about Chez Vivienne is that maybe some consideration should have been to the structural strengthening to the room above as
We got a disturbed nights sleep from the constant moving from the occupants in the room above .

- Andy (9/5): Comfortable accomodation and a lovely stay - Very clean, and quite different! Felt like we were in 19th century Paris! Nothing - although a little tricky to find!

- Ann (10/5): -
- Tasha (10/5): Incredible stay in a beautiful location - Incredible location in the heart of the village, walk in shower was gorgeous Only dairy sachets of milk for tea/coffee, would have liked a dairy alternative sachet
- Rebecca (10/5): - Location fantastic, room fantastic and that bath was relaxing. Comfortable bed and spacious bedroom and bathroom. Will definitely be back. Everything was perfect 👌
- Peter (7/5): Besides the stairs it was a very pleasant stay and I must say extremely well decorated. - It was clean tidy and at the centre of the town, easy to walk and to all aspects. I must admit the stairs were extremely difficult for us, being elderly I must it was extremely difficult to get our luggage up and down the stairs.
- Patricia (9/5): Sumptuous - Good instructions for finding entrance. lovely decoration and welcome. Comfortable bed. Sumptuous bathroom. Tea, coffee and biscuits. Couldn't work out how to turn the light over the loo off, so on all night. Would have liked a door on the loo itself.
Noisy base music until the early hours. Unfortunately too many stairs for me.
- keely (10/5): Excellent location, -
- Liam (7/5): - The location was fantastic and the property had everything we needed. The problem was the parking, on the booking.com search the property was advertised with parking. This is incorrect, it was a pay and display car park with no overnight parking available. Luckily we had family further down the road with parking but very frustrating when you specifically search for a property with parking.
- Shorer (9/5): -
- Fiona (8/5): Very happy - will definitely return - Comfortable , attractively decorated , well located . Very good sound proofing with the double glazing given on a busy high street No issues (lack of parking might be an issue for some but the main ilkley car park is very close by )
- Christopher (9/5): Excellent location. Very good property. -
- bernard (9/5): An enjoyable experience with easy access to the town and parking. - Chez Vivienne is an experience. The interiors have been decorated and furnished with care and individuality. They reflect the period of the building. Everywhere is very clean and the beds are extremely comfortable. The unobtrusive TV’s are a nod to modernity.
Would certainly return.
- Lilleyman (10/5): -
- diane (10/5): - Location, lovely comfortable bed, nice size room and bathroom 🙂
- joe (9/5): -
- mandy (10/5): A lovely stay in a quaint room, with a great central location - Location was excellent ,bathroom was very spacious. Nothing to particularly dislike, although we were in the top room which could have been a struggle up the stars for some.
Being 6ft 4 I banged my head on the low beams more than once.
- James (8/5): -
- Kevin (8/5): Very good - Lovely room, nice and local to town Climbing the stairs to get to room
- Jess (10/5): Gorgeous, comfortable themed room, like living out your own Bridgerton fantasty. - When I got into the room I wanted to scream because it was SO cool, it was like being transported back in time to the boudoir of an upper-class Lady. The interior, the decorations, the details, were all so well thought through. I wish I'd had time to make use of the bath. Even walking up the stairs to the room was like walking up into another world. Check in was also very smooth, I arrived earlier than expected and was kindly allowed to check in early by the host – she replied straight away and was super lovely. A downside of being so centrally located is that there was a bit of noise from surrounding bars as it was a Friday night but nothing ear plugs didn't fix!
- Louise (7/5): Good - Location was great and the room was comfortable, however no door on the toilet and the access up the very steep narrow stairs would be an issue for some. The floor boards were exceptionally creaky which I know cant be helped but the guests above us seemed yo ne walking round all night No door on toilet
- Sally (7/5): Statley home vibes - Unusual quirky room like sleeping in a stately home. Nice big bath, which I had to try out and had a lovely relaxing soak after a day at the cricket in Leeds. Central location. Good directions to accommodation provided. There are plenty of local bars and restaurants nearby. Lovely breakfast in the hotel opposite the next day. Warm day, so I had all windows wide open big hotel was directly opposite so had to make use of the screen as I bathed as there are no doors and it's all open plan including toilet which is behind a wall in the corner but no door. You need to be very comfortable with your roommate in this room. The staircase is very steep and narrow, so it is not suitable for anyone with mobility issues or is on the large side. Entrance is in a square behind the shops.
- Richard (8/5): Very good -
- Morag (6/5): Ilkley was charming with lots of interesting shops/bars/cafes and restaurants, the accommodation would perhaps s - Location was good and the decor was pleasant The lights in the bathroom didn’t work and the shower leaked into the room below. I didn’t like the very steep and narrow staircases - our room was in the attic space.
- Marc (8/5): Very good -
- Angela (7/5): Great position in centre - Liked the decor and Netflix lovely bathroom External area and stairs looked shabby outside
- Elizabeth (6/5): Pleasant -
- Derrick (6/5): Exhausting access. - Good location. Not being made clear that to reach our room it was necessary to negotiate several flights of stairs, 43 steps in all.
- Kaucher (10/5): Exceptional - Great location in the centre of town, parking metres away. Very comfortable room and the owner was very helpful.
- Lesley (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional -
- Julie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Julie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Amelia (10/5): 10/10 stay in Ilkley - Beautiful stay in Ilkley, room was lovely, perfect! Great location, spacious, luxury, coffee was fabulous too!
- Marie (8/5): Great central location - The central location and parking nearby. Nice room. Requested an early check-in and the owner was very obliging and responded quickly. Didn’t actually meet them though during our short stay Not much privacy in the bathroom and the stairs are quite narrow and steep
- Colin (7/5): Quirky! - The room was very nicely decorated and furnished. Comfortable bed. Toiletries, tea and coffee were good quality. Central location. Access is via a scruffy shared courtyard to the rear of the shops, and a narrow staircase (also nicely decorated and furnished!).
- Suzie (10/5): Perfect location, perfect room x - Just loved the room it was gorgeous x Nothing
- Matthew (7/5): Good -
- Linda (9/5): Superb - A beautiful clean, comfortable room in an excellent location, ideal for a short stay. Loved the French ambience and the quirkiness of the room.
The owners were lovely, communication was excellent, and they were very helpful when we couldn't find the entrance to the accommodation ! No complaints about the property, but directions to need to be a bit clearer! Although the address is Brook St, the entrance is actually on Church St. Fortunately the owners were very easy to contact, gave us directions and met us.
- Dea (10/5): Opulent, beautiful room and super location - Fabulous central location.
Very nice owner.
Amazingly beautiful room with opulent paintings and decor and a lovely bathroom with bath.
Great views over the main street from big windows! No lift - not a problem for me as only one flight of steps to my room, but people should know.
No car park - had to pay at the main Ilkley car park at the back. Not a problem finding space late afternoon, but I know it can get rammed earlier in the day so worth considering arrival time.
The entrance from a door in a courtyard wasn't marked.
- Jason (9/5): Lovely quirky establishment but awkward access - A lovely quirky establishment with period prints and decor, plus a big bath. There is NO Parking. You'll need to park at one of one of the public car parks and walk around. Note it does not have a manned reception so you'll need to give arrival time.
- Iain (8/5): Very good - Lovely room great location
- Craske (9/5): Superb - Was lovely,
missed a proper shower.
Had a shower was hanging on the bath, but the water went everywhere, when tried to shower.
Was a little noisy from being on the highstreet
- Toni (8/5): Very good - It was a lovely room with a lovely bathroom
- Claire (9/5): Superb -
- Siobhan (6/5): March 2025 - Elizabeth met us for the handover and was informative and kind.
Big bathroom. Clean. Nice views from velux ( beautiful sunset over hills)
though had to watch my head on roof beams. New parking regs mean in square 8-10 pm is £1.50 per hour. Over two days this gets to be a pain. Courtyard poorly lit and close to rowdy pubs. Woken by revellers and (police) helicopters.
- Roystonv (9/5): Superb - Nice room great location . Bath overflowed onto bathroom floor . Just needs repaired thought i would mention .
- Stuart (10/5): Exceptional -
- June (9/5): Superb -
- Michael (9/5): Superb -
- Peak (5/5): Passable - Good location The bath plug didn't hold the water, water was slow running, no shower curtains, not fit for purpose
- Clive (9/5): Superb -
- David (5/5): Mixed feelings on our stay wouldn’t use again - The owner met us to ensure we found the property. Because it was Valentines Day added extras were provided at no extra costs Chocolates and Prosecco, nice touch. Location great. Warm and comfy bed. Parking is very difficult in Ilkley for long stayers which meant we had to street park on the edge of the town and walk back up with our luggage. Noise from the room above was very significant when people were just walking around, very creaky floor boards. On the Friday night the couple above us returned at midnight very drunk and noisy and you could hear everything they were doing and saying!
- Gordon (9/5): Superb -
- Helen (9/5): Superb -
- Kathryn (10/5): Very relaxing it has an ambiance about it and I loved the coffee - I felt so relaxed in the room , my life as been so stressful but the room felt calm and I slept so welly, the room had such a nice feel and the bedding felt luxurious I would definitely come back , some reviews have complained about the stairs but I feel it’s a small compromise once you arrive in your room There’s nothing not to like
- Alan (9/5): Superb - Fabulous room right in the heart of Ilkley. Steep staircase.
- Penny (4/5): Not to be repeated - Nothing in particular Location. Access through an unlit archway into a dingy courtyard. First impression a dirty stair carpet. Room was very cold with no heating on despite arriving later than that given.
- Anthony (10/5): Exceptional -
- Maxine (10/5): Exceptional - Everything brilliant host Andrew was fantastic going out of his way and behond we will definitely come bk the room brilliant cosy and chic Nothing to say was great
- Izzie (10/5): A hidden gem of a hotel - Chez Vivienne was exceptional. Andrew was lovely and very welcoming upon arrival, the room was incredibly cosy and well decorated and the attention to detail was amazing, with a lovely gesture left for us on our anniversary stay. We would definitely return!
- Leon (7/5): Lovely place. Lovely host - The bath and the location were great. And the host was really lovely. The pictures on the wall, too many posh faces and the mugs were of fox hunting.
- Richard (9/5): Great location - Lovely room great location Parking a problem if you don't have parking app
- Russell (10/5): Tres Bien - A little beautifully decorated parisian gem hidden away in the heart of Ilkley. Parking was a bit of a pain but that's down to Bradford CC and no fault of the host
- John (9/5): Superb -
- Susan (8/5): ideal location for our trip - The welcome, room and facilities were very good. We were on the 3rd floor and I found it a bit of struggle as I'm not too good with stairs and they were quite steep. If I had known beforehand, I probably wouldn't have booked it.
- John (9/5): Great stay. - Great location in the heart of Ilkley, easy walk from railway station. Somewhere to leave bags for a few hours after checking out. Appreciate this may not work with current set up.
- Julie (5/5): Passable -
- Helen (9/5): Superb - Host was very helpful and welcoming. Location excellent for centre of Ilkley.
- Theresa (3/5): Disappointing - Quirky. Centralised location, near to parking.
The host was welcoming and polite. Sold as: DELUXE DOUBLE ROOM. After entering the dark back street courtyard, opening what looked like a warehouse fire door, walking through a very narrow hallway, climbing numerous flights of stairs to the attic… to be presented with a Tiny room, eclectic mix of furniture, no seating area (as described) no windows or views (as described) a very small bed, no support or spring, topped with a mattress that felt like it was made by cardboard! Description stated views!? If you care to stand on something and open the velux on the roof, no windows. A decent bathroom, which we never used! We felt that we had been mis-sold by the description of what we had paid £125 for vs the reality.
Left and went to stay elsewhere. At a push, it’s a single occupancy room.
- Lomax (9/5): Would highly recommend - Fantastic location
Very warm welcome
Great facilities
Lovely and clean Unfortunately there was a loud vibration noise which came on every 5 minutes for about 5-6 seconds
No idea of the cause 🤔
- Will (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rich (8/5): A lovely and unique place to stay. - Was welcomed beautifully to the room. The decor is beautiful and everything about the room look great. A really lovely stay overall. A shame that there was no breakfast facilities but did know that after contacting the host before arriving.
- Zoe (6/5): Pleasant -
- Janet (9/5): Central location, great for exploring Ilkley centre - Bed comfortable, great location. Clean and welcoming. Bath tub but then I am a shower person.
- Joanne (10/5): A secret treasure of a property - Beautiful and unique rooms with every little detail considered Room was quite warm - possibly an optional fan would be good
- Brendan (9/5): Superb -
- Nicola (10/5): Exceptional -
- Carmel (9/5): Lovely accommodation in the centre of town. Host was a good communicator which eased access. - Decor. Good coffee. We also had a mix up regarding our arrival time - but it was dealt with very well. Just needed an extra cover as the night went very cold. The little car park was accessed through a small tunnel so we had to be very careful - BUT the car was then parked in a safe spot!
- Chris (6/5): There was no shower facilities. There was a bath but needs a shower. - Location was perfect Parking is difficult and expensive
- Robert (8/5): Very saticfied - Didnt have breakfast. Enjoy the Stay. Nothing spesiell. 😁
- Laki (10/5): Exceptional - A beautifully decorated appartment. Central and quiet ( very well insulated). A most helpful manager Nil
- John (10/5): Great location and well appointed. Good value, - Car access is for small car only
- Sarah (6/5): Great location, nice personal touch and no rush to check out either. . . - No breakfast but tea and coffee making facilities - a small fridge with fresh milk would have been nice. Also was extremely warm the weekend we were there so something to keep water cool and a fan would have been nice especially as we were in the top/attic room with only velux windows (so no view either). Nice big bathroom, but shower only. Bed was comfy but small. Lots of stairs to the top floor to bear in mind. Low ceilings in the top floor room.
- John (10/5): Top dog - Good Nothing
- Gordon (7/5): Good - unusual decor 3 flights of stairs
- Rosie (7/5): Good - Loved the decor, roll top bath! Quirky details Toilet not in separate cubicle
- Bee (9/5): Superb -
- Tom (8/5): Unique and charming stay - Our room was stylish, clean and comfortable. Host was great - fantastic service and communication The entrance was a little hard to find
- Elizabeth (10/5): Beautifully decorated Rooms - Beautifully decorated large room with lots of thought gone into the fixtures, which complement the period of the house.
Very comfortable bed, cafetière with fresh coffee. Narrow staircases would not suit anyone with mobility problems.
- Claire (9/5): A super place to stay in a great location. - Great location in the middle of Ilkley. Clean room and comfortable bed. It was all fine!
- Julia (8/5): Very good -
- Lynn (10/5): Exceptional - Our host meeting us at the door was a very welcome touch. The decor was very tasteful and original. Loved the bathroom and roll top bath. Having freshly ground coffee and a teapot for tea was a very refreshing change to instant tea and coffee. Nothing we didn't like
- Elaine (8/5): Lovely quirky place for a short visit - Andrew was an excellent host contacting us before we arrived and providing excellent instructions. We were only staying for one night and for that it was perfect. The room and bathroom were exceptionally clean with good quality toiletries. Good quality towels, etc. tea and coffee were provided. Lots of thought had gone into the furnishing and fixtures in the room. The room was comfortable and very quiet and extremely convenient for the town centre. The property has several flights of steep narrow stairs that would not suit everyone. Although there was a very nice bathroom there was only a shower over the bath, again not ideal for us.
