Guest Reviews
- Michael (10/5): A great place with great people and a wonderful environment! - This is one of the best places I have ever stayed in and that is probably in excess of 300 locations. The room was phenomenal and Louise and family and animals make you feel at home from the moment you arrive. The delivery of warm croissants and tea in the am is so good and when the owner brings them with a smile that warms your heart. We got a great dinner recommendation from Lorrie(sp) and being on a working farm with horses and cows and a personable pig was a great background staying in a Castle was special. My group would strongly recommend the Castle and we tied that we only had one night. Nothing

- Kathleen (10/5): We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again in the future. - Our host Louise gave us a warm welcome and we felt very at home. The 1300 Castle was beautiful as was the grounds. Very scenic and we were happy to see horses, cows, and 2 adorable and well behaved dogs and 2 sweet kitties. The Spacious apartment had everything you’d want or need - Very luxurious and comfortable. We loved it, so nothing we didn’t like.
- Robyn (8/5): Great castle stay on a beautiful property! - A unique stay in a castle on a lovely property
- Steve (9/5): - The property was fantastic! Historic, comfortable, beautiful! The host and her family were very welcoming! The kitchen area needs a few more dishes, cups, etc. Everything else was great.
- Sherry (10/5): Amazing - If I could give 10+ rating I would! The castle was comfortable and beautiful but the best part is Louise the owner. She is so warm and helpful I would definitely stay again! Close to Cobh and Cork but you do need a car! Sherry
- Wendy (10/5): Fabulous Host, Lovely Castle! - Louise and her son Harry were lovely and so helpful, loved the quiet, the castle and the lovely grounds. Room was well appointed comfortably elegant. The whole experience was lovely! It's a bit tricky to find, but definitely worth getting lost once or twice!
- CHRISTOPHER (10/5): - Louise and her family were wonderful host. This was my second stay with them and look forward to next year. Recommend to everyone to give them a try
- ellen (10/5): - Herzlicher persöhnlicher Empfang und Betreung , tolle Lage. Nichts
- Jeryl (10/5): Loved the passion - Great location
- Julie (4/5): An Unpleasant, Overpriced Stay - I booked Ballea Castle as it was close to Cork Airport and I needed a place to stay at short notice. The owner, Louise, accepted the booking and I arrived that evening. I didn’t get to see much of the place as I left early the next morning. I paid €320 for ‘The Queen’s Suite’, which was a large twin room with self-catering facilities. There was no milk in the fridge. Louise’s teenage son was on duty that night (I never met Louise) and he couldn’t get the WiFi working. The room has no natural light, only a high window in the bathroom for a view/ventilation and a view of tree tops. The 3 small windows in the room itself are opaque glass and face out to the corridor with roller blinds. When the automatic light comes on in the corridor, it shines through.
It was a disappointing experience for the reasons above and not conducive to a good night’s sleep, and also because the owner’s dog was left outside in the rain all night and I could hear it barking. Overall, not a pleasant stay and what I did see of the Castle’s interior was unsympathetically restored.
I requested a refund from Louise but she only offered €100, so I still ended up paying €220.

- Sara (6/5): The housekeeper delegated to greet us did not speak English. - The location was OK The breakfast was chocolate croissant only, which I do not like. My husband ate mine.
- Andrew (8/5): -
- Bernadette (10/5): Simply perfect in every way. - Absolutely everything. I love its vibe, the country location , Louise is divine and so helpful. Feels like a home away from home while also feeling like a princess.
- Lynda (10/5): The best stay and we would have stayed much longer if we had not already had plans down the road. - We loved every single detail. The area was quiet and peaceful. The hostess was fabulous, sweet and very open to giving us tips. The room was beautiful as were the grounds. We loved everything.
- Vanessa (10/5): -
- Rachel (10/5): History and luxury together - What a special place, we had a wonderful night hosted by Louise at her beautiful castle. A stunning building, fabulous suite and a very warm welcome. Nothing
- Jessine (10/5): Beautiful castle and accommodation and Loise is truly an amazing hostess fit for a castle. - The castle is beautiful and the suites are very large. The bathroom is large and luxurious. And the king bed is very comfortable. We loved all the animals ❤️. Nothing
- Erik (10/5): I highly recommend the experience of visiting this place. - The most friendly staff I have ever met. They even let me borrow their dogs when I wanted. I could not have asked for better service. Highly recommended. Nothing.

- Christine (10/5): Beautifully kept and renovated Castle - Louise was very welcoming. She gave us lots if info, and sorted all our requests..(helped organuse an early morning cab, provided an ice bucket and oat milk in the morning). We felt right at home and the castle was stunning. We even had an early evening visit from a goat, cat and dog at the door like a Disney movie :) Real coffee would have been great but maybe difficult to organise.
- Kaley (10/5): - We loved everything about this magical place. Our kids had the best time, it was a beautiful farm setting, and a great location. Our host was so welcoming and went the extra mile to make our experience absolutely unforgettable.

- Nicole (10/5): Lovely stay in a well appointed suite in a CASTLE! - We arrived after 10p and were greeted upon our arrival. The rooms were lovely and spacious. There is an old castle feeling to everything but the bathrooms were updated with modern finishes. The croissants in the morning were delicious.
We went for a walk around the grounds, it was so peaceful and the kitten was a good walking partner! Everything was grand.
- Mike (10/5): Wonderful Host and Accomodations! - Host was very friendly and helpful. The warm croissants were wonderful. Something other than instant coffee. Perhaps pods or coffee served with croissants.
- Tina (10/5): A lovely night’s sleep with a delicious breakfast and some bonus cuddles from the barn cats, dogs and horses. - Beautiful setting indoors and out! N/A
- Caitriona (10/5): -
- Sue (10/5): -
- James (10/5): An extraordinary experience that I would recommend to anyone looking for more than the usual hotel. - Honestly, we would have chosen brown bread, butter, and jam if given the choice 😇, but the chocolate croissants were fine No pub outside the gate! (Only joking!) We liked the entire experience, from the moment the friendly owner greeted us.
- kate (7/5): -
- David (10/5): Relaxing stay, lots of friendly farm animals and pleasant easy walks around the property. - Excellent chocolate croissants delivered to our room at time of our choosing which was great. Nothing
- Breda (10/5): - Everything..
- Sheppard (10/5): I have never experienced such a kind and accommodating staff before. I would recommend this property to everyone. The cu - The property is in a perfect location. The staff was amazing, reaching out before and during the stay multiple times to ensure we were okay and if we needed anything. The facilities and the room was impeccable, nicest place I have ever stayed at in Ireland by far!
- Sergii (10/5): Middle aged castle in 21 century - Beautiful place, hotel-castle (more 700 year Ballet castle), hotel part is absolutely new, big size room, kitchen, fridge, toaster and rest essential facilities were included.
Fantastic family owners, especially Mrs. Louise. Very kind, friendly opening person. Parking on territory of castle. Hot croissants at morning from Mrs. Louise were unforgettable.
Peace place. Place for relaxing and thinking about life sense.
A lot of pets 🐕🐶, which we liked Nothing
- Rachel (10/5): -
- Patrick (10/5): -
- Georgina (10/5): It was perfect! - Firstly, Louise was the most incredible host throughout our stay! She made the entire process so seamless and gave us the best dinner recommendations as well. The property is 10/10! Beautiful large bedrooms and the photos don’t do justice to the castle and the grounds! I wish we got to stay for longer. Highly recommend!
- Jordan (9/5): -
- Andrei (9/5): -
- Caleb (10/5): A unique and exceptionally comfortable stay you won’t forget! - What a wonderful, unique, charming, and cozy location! We absolutely loved our stay and the accommodations. Our host was amazing—hospitable, knowledgeable about the area, and flexible. You have to try this stay at least once! We loved not only the property itself, but also the experience of staying here. The host was incredibly pleasant, and the grounds were beautiful. The room was luxurious yet homey.
- Colin (10/5): Perfect for a relaxing night away - Very relaxed place and absolutely loved the decor. It’s done up just perfect to give the modern feel in an old castle.
Louise and Rodger couldn’t have been more helpful and welcoming. Will definitely be going back again. Nothing
- Nonis (10/5): The stay was perfect and Louise was a very good host. - Everything Nothing
- alan (10/5): -
- Amalia (10/5): -
- Marcia (10/5): - Nice place to get away and relax!!
- Thomas (10/5): Perfect location, beautiful property, and outstanding hosts. Highly recommended! - The room was very spacious and comfortable. We loved the property and strolling around in the evenings saying hello to the horses, the sheep, the cats, the cows, etc. The warm croissants each morning were a lovely surprise and got our day off to a great start. The location was perfect for us as we explored Cobh and Kinsale. Not to mention the architectural intrigue of the castle itself. Louise met us when we checked in and provided a wealth of information for our visit. She made several perfect recommendations for things to do in the area and was willing to make reservations or anything else we needed. Everything was top notch. There was nothing we didn't like about our stay.
- Vincent (10/5): Exceptional - Exceptional property room and service
- Pat Avin (10/5): - Our hosts were warm and friendly. They did everything to insure that our stay was a pleasant one. I loved being greeted also by their family pets. It made one feel that they were coming back to a familiar place. I am back home in the U.S. now and consider this a highlight of my holiday. I recommend Ballea Castle a must in your holiday plans!
- Mary (10/5): Magical stay at a castle built in 1300 with fabulous hits and comfortable rooms - From the first moment we drove through the white gates- we were in love! Louise and Christophe could not have been more helpful or charming hosts! Louise very kindly accommodated using What’s App to communicate.
Imagine! Staying in a castle built in 1300 that is on a spectacular property that has all the modern conveniences - beautifully and comfortably decorated.
And the welcoming dogs and purring cats accompanied my daughter on a morning stroll.
Truly a magical place!
We were brought chocolate croissants in the morning that would rival any Paris bakery!
Our only complaint was not staying longer.! Can’t wait to return! No complaints whatsoever!
- Sabine KB (10/5): - Wunderschönes Ambiente, bezaubernde Gastgeber!
- Guyeski (10/5): - We had a very lovely stay. Beautiful space and very friendly host family.
- tess (8/5): Warm welcome at this beautiful castle - I had the warmest welcome and the castle was amazing I personally prefer older more authentic rooms in keeping with the castle itself but the contrast of the ancient outside and modernity of the rooms would be ideal for some!!
would have liked a more substantial (irish?) breakfast!
- Lien (7/5): One night in a Castle - Chance to experience staying in a Castle, which was something my Daughter wanted to experience. It is remote with nothing available to eat or drink. There was teabags and instant coffee and a bottle of red wine you could purchase. They had a sheet with the stuff the room was to have on hand with the purchase price, but there wasn't any. Thank goodness we had a few things with us because after finally finding the castle, we didn't want to venture into Cork for dinner.
- Virginia (10/5): I will absolutely recommend Ballea Castle to my friends and family!! - Louise was the PERFECT host!! She definitely went above and beyond. We arrived at about 7:30 and had no internet service, so she volunteered to drive us to town so we could have supper.
Our accommodations were absolutely beautiful!! We actually felt like royalty!!
- John (4/5): Disappointed, not really a castle as advertised. - Host is very lovely and helpful making dinner reservations. First, let me say I’m an owner of 4 AirBnbs so I have a perspective of an owner. The bottom line is that this is no where close to being worth $350/night. The Presidential Suite was nice and new, but the two rooms our friends had were both outdated. One had no windows to open and was very hot. You really are not staying in a castle, that part is used by the family. Most of the rooms are in a modern section that has no castle feel at all. The soap/shampoos were haphazard mismatched brands that looked like they came from the local grocery store. There were no hangers in the room or closet. All in all, while a place like this has a niche and could be successful, it just misses too many marks.
- Robin (7/5): Beautiful property and comfortable bed. Good for a short stay. Could be a spectacular place with a little more attentio - Bed was very comfortable, breakfast croissant was delicious. Beautiful grounds and animals that love attention. Hostess had wonderful dining and activity recommendations. Bathroom wasn’t clean, towels are scratchy, shower was only lukewarm on day two. Felt more like being a guest in a strangers house than a B&B. Furnishings and toiletries were a confusing mixture of items.
- Clare (9/5): Lovely Break - Everything Nothing
- Angela (10/5): - It is a beautiful property with many things to explore. The room was clean and beautiful. They were very friendly, helpful and accommodating. They brought fresh croissants for breakfast in the morning, that were delicious. Overall our stay was wonderful!
- Ritter (9/5): -
- Kolner (10/5): Such a beautiful place with even more beautiful people - We loved everything about the place. What an experience. Thank you The only think we didn’t like was we didn’t stay longer to enjoy all the it has to offer.
- Renee (10/5): Charming and delightful location close to town - Loved the charm and uniqueness of the property. Louise and her family were gracious hosts. Louise provided the history of the castle and greeted us with warm, delicious chocolate croissants in the morning. We loved walked around the property and enjoyed seeing all the animals. The cats were so friendly! Nothing.
- Marcey (10/5): A little piece of paradise - Everything! Louise is a delight and made us feel welcome right off the bat. The room was spotless and comfortable. The grounds are gorgeous and being able to interact with the animals - dogs, cats, sheep, horses, goats, peacocks (!!!), was a highlight. The hot morning scones were an unexpected and very appreciated bonus! I highly recommend staying at Ballea Castle, especially if you have a busy itinerary - for us it was a pleasant pause to an otherwise hectic, three -week travel schedule. That we couldn't stay longer. ❤️
- Adamczyk (10/5): Weekend Castle Getaway - There is so many things we enjoyed about our stay. The location was perfect, really quiet and surrounded with wonderful nature and lovely animals. I'd recommend this spot to anyone who is looking to visit the likes of Kinsale, Cork and the Wild Atlantic Way as it is only a short distance away to all of them. We were planning on visiting the Kinsale Meadery as well as the English Market in Cork, and this place was the perfect location to start from. The castle is filled with so much history, and the owner Louise provided us with a very detailed description of each part, as well as a wonderfully warm reception. We got advice on some amazing things to do in Kinsale, she's an amazing host that is worth your trust, charming, extremely engaged and has done a lot of work to make sure our stay exceeded expectations. Would have preferred to stay here a week, but that wouldn't have been enough. Thank you for accomodating our stay, and we hope you keep up the amazing work here.

- Demi (10/5): Zoals louise vaak het woord benoemd. “Gorgeous!!!” - Locatie was echt prachtig. -
- Meyers (10/5): Great modernized castle - Great "modernized" castle.
- Nicholas (10/5): Stunning and absolutely worth a visit. - Massive, luxurious room, complete with stove top. Really large comfy bed. Excellent shower. Croissants brought around in the morning.
Stunning location. The building has such an interesting history and the farm is lovely to wander through. Really easy to get to and from cork airport and city via uber/taxi. Also, only a 40ish minute walk to the closest town if you fancy it.
Louise and family were all so helpful and prompt in responses to any questions or needs we had.
Lots of animals around, horses, sheep, goats, a peacock.
One highlight was definitely the 3 really friendly dogs, and the cat who all came to greet us and keep us company while we walked around the property.
- Simon (10/5): -
- Katrin (10/5): -
- Michael (10/5): If you get a chance to stay at Ballea Castle do it.wonderful experience - First let me tell you that this was absolutely the best stay we have had in Ireland. They went above and beyond to make everything perfect. The only thing I would change about my stay is the number of days we stayed. One wasn’t enough.
- Gerhard (5/5): -
- COLIN (10/5): Historic relaxing and friendly - What a lovely castle 🏰 to stay at ,just outside the town of Carrigaline Co Cork, rooms were amazing, bed comfy, shower was fab . ,family run castle, very welcoming ,a big thank u to the 2 young ladies who showed us the stables and we got to see an amazing Olympic horse named Trigger, cooked a lovely meal ,owner left us borrow a "stone " grill to cook our steaks ,,will return for sure , thank u again Nothing to dislike at all
- Jeff (10/5): Wonderful wish it was longer! - Everything Nothing
- Stephen (10/5): Extremely relaxing and enjoyable. - Lovely setting, where style meets sophistication. Very welcoming and friendly. Nice welcome also from all the animals including the 3 dogs, kittens, sheep and peacock. Freshly baked croissants for breakfast were an unexpected treat. Cannot find fault.
- Anthony (10/5): -
- Tommy (10/5): -
- Eric (10/5): Idyllic but short stay near Cork and within minutes of Carrigaline. - Lands and building were stunning. A 14th century castle on a huge plot with cows, sheep, and lush gardens. Nothing
- Sonja (10/5): - Everything was great and we were hosted very friendly.
I enjoyed the cats and dogs and the great scenery.
