Guest Reviews
- Clive (8/5): The rectory lavenham - We relaxed and went out for a meal in Lavenham. The quality of the accommodation was excellent.
- Mullarkey (10/5): -
- Hayley (10/5): I would happily return here again and again. Feels like staying in a country house as a guest, just wonderful. - The property is stunning, so much history and a wonderful host. Frank is amazing, and made us feel
so welcome and comfortable.
- Boris (8/5): -
- James (10/5): A wonderful Gem - Really good reception from the owner and excellent room, full of character.
A real gem
- William (5/5): The owners were very pleasant and welcoming but I certainly wouldn’t rate the property as a five star - The position in the country was nice I was surprised when we were shown to the stables, I hadn’t noticed anywhere when we did the booking that we wouldn’t be in the house itself , I didn’t like the communal table at breakfast either it was a bit like school dinners , our room wasn’t cleaned one day even though we hung out our please service room card, there were a lot of cobwebs in the corners and on the top of lamps. There was an armchair in the bathroom but none in the bedroom so we moved it into the bedroom as there was only a hard upright chair in the bedroom itself.
- Darren (8/5): Nice comfortable stay - Location and the grounds and the free roaming dogs No Resturant
- Steve (10/5): Stunning welcoming comfortable house. Great location. Fab food! - Beautiful authentic and welcoming. Cyrus was attentive and breakfast delicious.
- Timothy (9/5): Lovely place with friendly, attentive staff. - Lovely hall and grounds. No option for food in the evening.
- Chris (10/5): A delightful piece of Old England. - Character, location, staff. The whole experience was most enjoyable.
- Baturhan (10/5): A peaceful, cozy and charming historic stay with warm hospitality. - We had an amazing stay at Rectory Manor Hotel. The interior was so cozy, warm and beautifully designed and the owner was incredibly welcoming and attentive. Frank shared so many fascinating stories and information about the hotel and the area and we would like to thank him once again for his warm hospitality and lovely conversation.
Our room was on the upper attic floor and it had everything we needed. The attention given to even the smallest details was impressive and made our stay truly special.
It was a wonderful night for me and my wife and we would happily come back again. We highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a peaceful and charming stay.
- Paula (10/5): - Comfort, location and welcoming staff.
- George (10/5): -
- Catherine (7/5): it worked well for our needs that weekend -a little chilly but on the whole good - WE were the only guests and so rattled around a bit and breakfast was adequate
- Kathleen (10/5): -
- Ronnie (8/5): -
- Peter (9/5): A really wonderful place to stay, a classic English country house, we'll definately be back. - We had a fantastic room, full of character, beautifully presented, lots of thoughtful touches and immaculately clean. Staff were really friendly and there was a lovely big living room to use. A log fire at breakfast was a nice addition and the option of a swimming pool plus tennis plus croquet is a huge bonus for the summer months and when we will definately return
- Richard (9/5): -
- Karen (7/5): A nice , friendly , family run business in a beautiful location. - Beautiful location. A little tired in the sleeping barn areas. A shower with a bath would have been more helpful. My husband is disabled and could not get into the bath.
- Tara (8/5): Peaceful retreat - Beautiful property very close to Sudbury and Lavenham. The property is set within well kept grounds, and has been restored and maintained to a good standard. Cyrus gave us a warm welcome and provided relevant information about the facilities, breakfast and restaurants etc nearby. The other staff we met, were polite and attentive without being intrusive. Our room was spacious, with a small terrace with views across the gardens. The room was clean and tastefully styled in keeping with the period style of the house. The property was very quiet and peaceful throughout our stay, which was lovely. Breakfast was to a good standard, however we felt that the continental offering was a little expensive for the items provided (£14 for a small yogurt and some granola ) The full English however was plentiful and cooked well. Nothing.
- Philippa (6/5): Sadly disappointed - The location is rural and quiet. The fresh fruit salad at breakfast was very good and the cooked breakfast was generous. The room was spacious, the shower good. We had high level of expectation because it’s advertised as a 5 star hotel. Sadly disappointed. The Rectory is a B&B. Attention to the little things such as cleanliness, comfort of bed and pillows would make a difference. The continental breakfast was poor. There was enough to eat but there was nothing generous or luxurious and a basket of tiny croissants doesn’t make it a continental breakfast.
- Stephen (7/5): Pleasant rural retreat - Attractive setting, excellent breakfast, attentive staff Our room was looking a little tired; over-bath shower tricky to use without flooding the floor.
- Marcia (10/5): Quiet, relaxing & warm stay. - Beautiful, well kept & full of history. Spotlessly clean with all we could ask for. Excellent breakfast. Nothing! We liked it all.
- David (10/5): Excellent place, lovely staff, gorgeous gardens - Both room and the whole is lovely and clean, gardens are well kept and vet quaint Na
- Jacqueline (10/5): Lovely trip - Lovely area, staff so helpful & friendly, beautiful rooms & great breakfast too!
- Radhika (10/5): -
- Karen (6/5): -
- Jane (10/5): I didn’t want to go home! - I think this may be the best accommodation I’ve stayed in, in the UK for all of the reasons already mentioned:
Warm welcome from Frank the host, wonderfully spacious and well maintained room. The condiments were a cut above too with fresh milk. Also ice to have with any drinks from the reasonably priced mini bar.
Pool was very clean and a good temperature.
As well as all this, the location is beautiful and peaceful and is a stones throw away from other Suffolk gems. I had a lovely meal at The Bell Inn at Kersey which is a beautiful spot.
I really hope to squeeze in another short break to this place soon. Nothing.
- Laura (10/5): Relaxing - Incredibly welcoming team to look after us throughout the stay, beautiful grounds and pool which was great with the hot weather we were having during our stay, rooms are immaculate and very comfortable. Such a peaceful and relaxing stay. Nothing at all
- JANINE (9/5): -
- Dionne (9/5): Relaxing in a beautiful setting with wonderful hosts - We felt decedent , it was luxurious Nothing
- nadine (10/5): Lovely part of the country quiet and peaceful great accommodation - Lovely quiet place enjoyed our stay very much Thankyou That we couldn’t stay longer
- Sophie (8/5): -
- Sophie (8/5): -
- Nicola (10/5): Wonderful house in idyllic location - The swimming pool was excellent. Very clean and well maintained.
The service was just perfect. We were left alone to enjoy our stay but attended to when needed. Great for much needed privacy and relaxation.
- Stephanie (9/5): Traditionell britisches charmantes Hotel zum Wohlfühlen mit Pool - Lage, Garten mit Libanon Zeder, Pool,
Interessante Gespräche über Heritage Buildings und Gärten in Suffolk und Norfolk mit dem Eigentümer , Frank Lawrenson.
- Jo. Ho. (9/5): Erholung in gediegenem, ruhigem Ambiente. - Sehr ruhige Lage. Swimmingpool. Die Ausstattung mit Kunstgegenständen und die persönliche Begegnung mit dem Inhaber. Beim Frühstück wurden alle Wünsche erfüllt. Die Hunde des Besitzers verrichteten ihr Geschäft auf dem Rasen.
- John (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect, property and hosts absolutely spot on, we'll be back Nothing, it was perfect
- Adam (8/5): A lovely quiet house with spacious grounds to relax and unwind. - Friendly introduction when we arrived, good facilities, self service 'bar' was reasonably priced, swimming pool was excellent and opened for us at 7:15am. Liked all guests sitting at same breakfast table as we met and spoke with some interesting folk. Breakfast well served by polite and attentive staff, the fresh fruit salad was excellent! The pastries at breakfast were not up to the standard of the rest of the breakfast. Some of the decoration in the room was looking a little tired.
- Peter (7/5): Good -
- Philip (10/5): Brilliant - Excellent in every way Nothing
- Elizabeth (10/5): Charming and peaceful - We enjoyed the country setting, the grounds, the breakfast, the history and most of all the effort put in by the host. Our room was lovely, with lots of little touches and style. Breakfast was very enjoyable. We would definitely recommend a visit.
- Jennifer (9/5): Superb -
- Ali (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anthony (5/5): Passable -
- Emma (10/5): A quiet, relaxing stay with friendly staff, a beautiful room and our host, Frank gave us some interesting facts about th - Peaceful with beautiful gardens and the lovely pool. Nothing
- Caroline (10/5): Excellent just fantastic stay - Everything beautiful luxurious boutique hotel Nothing
- Andy (8/5): Just what we needed. - Spacious and private - quiet & easy off road car parking. Not much. Doors in bedroom didn't close properly in some instances but that's a minor point.
- Helen (10/5): Exceptional - Wow, what a beautiful place to stay Nothing to dislike
- Michelle (9/5): Superb - Location fabulous. Beautiful grounds and gardens. The outdoor swimming pool was much appreciated given our stay was across a heat wave! Great service and very clean rooms with up to date decor. We stayed across a heat wave and the room was so, so hot. Although a fan was supplied, it was still very stuffy and boiling hot in the room. Additionally, a shower would have been good; there was only a bath in the ensuite.
- Richard (10/5): Exceptional! - A warm welcome was the prelude to an indulgent few days in this exceptional residence. Beautifully appointed in a superb setting. We really enjoyed our stay here.
- Mary (9/5): Very relaxing and comfortable. Lovely hosts made us very welcome. - Beautiful property. Well furnished and in beautiful grounds. Picturesque countryside location. No restaurant. Nearest restaurants/cafés a short drive away.
- Katherine (9/5): Superb - I enjoyed the swimming pool and the fresh fruit at breakfast was wonderful. My husband was told off for looking for more milk one evening, if staff could check at breakfast whether guests required more milk etc that would be helpful.
- Carole (9/5): Comfortable and welcoming. - Excellent location; marvellous facilities with pool, tennis court etc. Traditional luxury Manor House. Host (Frank & his wife) were friendly, helpful and made us feel at home. Nothing; it was all lovely,
- Liam (8/5): Very good -
- Gregory (10/5): Exceptional -
- Simon (10/5): A relaxing and friendly space - Lovely location and to get to use the pool was wonderful
- Christopher (10/5): Fabulous location - Frank, the host, was most attentive and helpful. He was an absolute pleasure to deal with as were the staff. They were all friendly and approachable. The facilities and our room were tip top. The pool was clean, and not to deep, and we used it a lot, as we did the croquet lawn. The only down side was that we only had 2 nights there. Highly recommend this beautiful place. Not a thing!
- Jennifer (8/5): A very relaxing, comfortable short break within easy reach of Sudbury and Long Melford. - Frank and staff were charming and keen to make sure I enjoyed my stay. This I did, and even extended my stay!
The pool was immaculate and I swam twice a day. The location, garden full of roses and three extremely well behaved Fox Red Labradors added to the country house atmosphere.
- Tim (9/5): Superb -
- Rupert (7/5): Good -
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mark (10/5): Good location…comfy room. Decent tea making - Very well presented and peaceful. Frank a good host . Not much.
- Jodee (8/5): Very good -
- Patricia (8/5): Very good -
- Austen (9/5): A beautiful country escape to a lovely part of England - Beautiful country getaway for a slice of quintessential England only a short drive from London
Lots of lovely villages, churches and country pubs very close by
Very welcoming hosts, lovely breakfast
Pool and tennis court for guests use were amazing
- Julie (10/5): Beautiful location, lovely old Manor House, wonderful stay! - Beautiful setting and a lovely Manor House. We had a very pretty, comfortable & spacious garden suite. Lots of thoughtful extras like cafetière coffee in the room with fresh milk and an honesty drinks trolley.
- Barbara (9/5): Lovely stay in a peaceful setting. - Everything. Nothing.
- John (10/5): Superb - We are hikers so an earlier breakfast would have been preferable.
- Carol (9/5): Superb -
- Upendrasinhji (10/5): EXCELLENT PROPERTY - Excellent property, rooms and beds were very comfortable, big bathroom.
Loved our stay. Will visit again.
Thanks NIL
- Peter (10/5): A must stay venue if you are visiting the lovely county and villages in this part of the country. - Our room was in the "stables". The accommodation was first class, including a very comfortable bed! Breakfast was a delight with the highest quality produce, a great start to the day. My wife enjoyed the kippers !!
The main house stood in lovely, manicured gardens surrounded by mature trees.
The staff were that right balance of leaving you to enjoy the peace and tranquillity, but there when you needed them.
Perfection !!
- Keith (10/5): Just perfect in every way -
- Carol (9/5): Superb - Dog friendly room with own private garden was fab. Lovely breakfast
Lovely location to walk dog in morning Personally I would have liked to have been in main house but with dog the annexe was excellent
- Heidi (9/5): Beautiful Suffolk - Building and grounds
- Jason (9/5): Superb -

- Robyn (9/5): Superb -
- Kerry (9/5): Superb - Location, lovely house very friendly hosts Nil
- Vaughan (8/5): Very good - Well maintained!
- Emma (10/5): A wonderful break in a beautiful setting! - A gorgeous place to stay, full of character and period pieces. We had everything we needed. Staff were so welcoming and breakfast was delightful! About a 10 minute drive from Lavenham, which was the purpose of our visit. Nothing!
- Keith (10/5): Would book again in an instant. - Really was a lovely stay in a beautiful old fashioned country home. Friendly, warm, great breakfast, full of character and with superb gardens and in a chocolate box village church location. Sitting on a balcony looking at nothing but fields, woods and the house's cat and dogs playing in the grounds was so restful. Only thing we didn't like was having to leave at the end of our stay we were having such a lovely time.
- Westtraveller (10/5): Wonderful! - The house and the room were wonderful. We've never had such a luxurious room before. It was amazing value for the price. Breakfast was excellent and the dining room had a fascinating collection of the family photos and memorabilia. The Host and Hostess were charming and had a very friendly and efficient member. of staff. There is nothing that could be better.
- Jane (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sylvia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gav (9/5): Beautiful property, tasteful large room with a lovely bath and an amazing bed. - Character property. Warm, homely feel Hard to find in the dark, fridge pump in the room was noisy.
- Joseph (10/5): Brilliant! - Frank Nothing
- Sharon (8/5): Very good -
- Jason (9/5): Superb -
- Alice (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was perfect, from the moment of our welcome, the manner of the staff (present, but not too present), the unexpected room upgrade, to the most romantic moment of my life in front of the epic fireplace that we had to ourselves for our one night stay. Oh and breakfast was awesome too. The room surpasses description - I could wax lyrical about the free standing bath and four poster bed, but it was truly made by the early advent sun pouring in from the east through all the windows in the morning. For a spontaneous stop-off en route home after visiting friends, it was altogether unforgettable.
- Michael (9/5): Superb -
- Hales (9/5): Gorgeous place to stay - Gorgeous room, such a beautiful manor and staff were very friendly, warm and welcoming and helpful. Bed was comfortable, lovely facilities and it was very quiet. There were a few cobwebs in the room and bathroom, completely appreciate it being an old house and high ceilings it can be harder to stay on top of this, however given the high standards everyone else I thought this was one thing I’d like to see different.
- Kevin (9/5): Charming residence and host and staff - the countryside and ambiance of locale maybe breakfast choices
- Jordon (9/5): Beautiful little get away - Very picturesque Location
- Abigail (7/5): Lovely setting friendly staff but pricey for what we got - Lovely location
Nice comfy room
Very clean
Friendly staff Breakfast was extra to room price - which was already quite high for room we had
Vegetarians charged the same as meat eaters but very small cooked breakfast serviced
Room was away from main building and heating system controlled centrally, so no control over heat, so room very warm
- John (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mark (7/5): Really lovely weekend at great location let down by poor quality sausage and overcooked eggs. - Quiet and beautiful old property with a lovely dining room and real fire and very pleasant staff. The cooked full English was a disappointment and not really value for money.
- Susan (10/5): Very enjoyable, a very pleasant relaxing setting - The calmness of the property, tranquil setting Nothing - all that I could expect - a quality hotel
- Noel (9/5): Perfect way to recharge your batteries in a beautiful setting. - Character, atmosphere, and a welcoming homely feel. Excellent. Not long enough stay.
- Janet (10/5): Excellent Choice - The host greeted us warmly. He was friendly and informative. The manor is like a step back in time. It is comfortable and inviting. It was all good.
