Guest Reviews
- Lisa (7/5): Good location - Property was in a good location just on the edge of wooded area and not to far from local attractions Not everything was as expected
There was no washing machine in the property as described. We were offered the use of the one in the next property but I did not find this practical. Or appropriate.
There is a small garden at the rest of the parking area but no where to sit. We possibly could have moved the chairs from the covered terrace. The terrace was enclosed and not that inviting to sit there.
- Gerry (6/5): - The location was ideal for my visit. On the edge of town within walking distance of Alnwick's attractions with free parking in front of the property. There were a few minor issues which did not detract from my holiday enjoymemt. The landlord was easilly accessible and responded well. There was no washing machine although this was listed on Booking.com.
- Helen (8/5): Good stay basic accommodation - It was spacious, and clean Bed was very soft and lumpy, very basic kitchen. No hairdryer as the previous occupant had taken it
- Smith (8/5): Would recommend - Easy to find, good facilities, car parking adjacent. We had no issues
- Bernie (9/5): Beautiful little cottage - The location was perfect for visiting the beach or enjoying a walk in the countryside.
The cottage was a lovely size for 2 and 2 dogs. Everything we needed to make our stay comfortable.
- andrew (1/5): Shoddy, slipshod and very disappointing. - wifi not working, key code not immediately available on arrival, tea towel in kitchen smaller than a flannel, shower tray mouldy, plug hole in sink rusty, NO WASHING MACHINE.
- Brian (8/5): - Good location and quiet. Nothing to dislike, but if you're cooking for yourself, it was lacking a little in utensils.
- David (10/5): Excellent value for money and close to Alnwick and the beaches - Spacious rooms and good location Could accommodate a much larger bed
- Elaine (9/5): Lovely little cottage - We've been to Northumberland many many times but this was the first time with our 5 month old baby. We struggled to find somewhere with a bedroom large enough for a travel cot so when we saw the pictures of this cottage it looked ideal. There is so much space in the bedroom it was perfect for what we needed.
Location is amazing, just off the A1 and a short drive or walk into Alnwick itself.
Would definitely return. Furniture was a little old/stained but cottage itself was clean and tidy.
- Joanne (8/5): - The location was perfect for walks into Alnwick. 10 minutes from barter Books which is a must visit.
Owner messaged with details of woodland walk nearby.
Close drive into Alnmouth and other villages. No hairdryer at property.
- Fay (4/5): Beautiful it should be beautiful it isn't.. - The location was excellent for Alnwick and the surrounding area. The property purports to be beautiful and it absolutely can be but there are so many minor details that stop it being so. A lack of kitchen utensils, kitchen roll, scissors, leaking taps, broken cupboards, no extra such as tea coffee and sugar whilst okay maybe isn't a given but it's a small touch that makes a big difference in the kitchen. No live TV, broken light bulbs, bleached and suspicious brown stains on the towels. A suspicious drain smell from the sink and a noise when you flush the toilet that gives anyone with a nervous disposition a heart attack.
The sheets in the bedroom are atrocious, Bobbly, a mattress so thin and no pillow protectors.
The gate didn't lock either so no idea why there's a key.
The decor is random, you're in the Northumberland area so why a massive picture of the New York Sky Line. The gravel is too deep in the car park. There are just so many small things that added together make this just no where near as nice as it should be.
- Tracey (8/5): Lovely spacious accommodation within easy reach of amenities - It was spacious and well equipped The bed was very soft and springy but our personal preference is for a firmer bed.
- Reid (9/5): - Easy parking at property meant 15 minute walk into Alnwick Town centre. Perfect for us and our 2 dogs.
Very spacious property. Larger than it appears in photos. We visited in winter, property was warm. The covered outside area good size, clean and well maintained, there was also a lockable gate. Happy with everything
- Lee (7/5): Good place to stay and reasonably priced - Ideal for what i needed The heating had been turned down at the boiler and the first night was very cold, on the second night I realised why and turned the boiler up to a reasonable temperature
- Sheron (8/5): We enjoyed our stay and will probably be back - It was ideally situated for exploring the area The heating wasn’t working when we arrived but our host talked us through to get it working
- Denise (10/5): Lovely relaxing holiday - The cottage was warm, clean and very cosy. It’s in a perfect location to get into Alnwick town centre.
- Michele (1/5): - Location The entrance smelt strongly of dog urine. There was no bedding sheets for the extra bed and it was very cold. The owner didnt answer the phone or message me back for 12hrs after our check in time
- Tina (9/5): Lovely peaceful stay and beautiful town. - The beautiful bedroom upstairs. Toilet in the utility/ cleaning cupboard and noisy.
- Joe (10/5): - Lovely cottage in an excellent location.
The living room and bedroom areas are cozy and spacious. Private parking was a bonus. Sadie was very helpful throughout our stay. Thanks 😃👍 Shower Cubicle slightly on the smaller side, but still enough space.
- Joan (9/5): Great location - Great location, lovely walk down to the river and along to Alnwick. Good information about eateries, some lovely takeaways and pubs to eat in. Comfy sofas, everything we needed in the kitchen, didn't cook but there were pans and cooker if we'd wanted to. Large bedroom with plenty of storage. Cosy warm in both living room and bedroom. Bed wasn't too comfy, but still slept OK. There's nowhere to put things for having a shower. Couldn't lock the gate ad key just kept on turning.
None of these things stopped us from enjoying our stay.
- Elizabeth (8/5): Lovely stay in quiet location on the outskirts of Alnwick -
- Diana (8/5): Lovely place with everything we needed - Convenient location and welcoming host
- Steven (9/5): -
- Jon (10/5): - Lovely, clean and comfortable. Perfect location for Bamburgh which was the purpose of the trip.
- Nicola (7/5): -
- Ita (10/5): -
- Irene (8/5): Perfect location for Alnwick - Easy to access with great parking space.
Easy to walk or bus into Alnwick
Little pub a few hundred yards along the Road if you do not rush to self cater.
Nice and clean throughout and very bright duplex with windows to two aspects.
Small private courtyard for nicer weather.
Loved our stay and would definitely recommend Mentioned washing machine that wasn’t available.
Didn’t impact on us, however may do if staying longer or with little people
- Iiam (10/5): -
- Sarah (10/5): - Absolutely lovely cottage in a good location, close to the town centre. All home comforts, had a great time.
- Hilary (7/5): - Good location, good parking. Quite spacious. Disappointed to find no washing machine as advertised but owner arranged for us to use the machine in adjoining cottage. No lamp in lounge, only very bright ceiling lights - had to use bedside lamp from upstairs. Kitchen was good size but utensils etc a bit passed their best and no scissors. Downstairs loo out the way in utility room and extremely noisy. Lovely spacious bedroom with comfy bed. Bathroom looked tired. Huge cobwebs hanging from ceiling. The bathroom mat didn't look very inviting and overall the area didn't feel welcoming and clean. The courtyard outside had birds flying around so lots of droppings to walk through when entering and leaving the property.
- Myka (10/5): -
- Anthony (7/5): OK but wouldn't go back. - Parking area, and view of very nice homes. No mirror in bathroom to shave.Shower in bathroom too small, room for a larger one.No mirror in lounge area or utility/ wc area.Courtyard has potential but was dirty, with full bins, not been emptied for weeks, smelly.Should have bench on paved area in parking to sit in the sun.
- Jill (7/5): Peaceful location, very easy to access and perfect for visiting Alnwick with Castle and Gardens. - Interesting old property, thick walls so very quiet, spacious layout. Facilities easy to use.
- Burgassi (9/5): -
- Lisa (6/5): -
- Fletcher (8/5): Holiday in Alnwick - It was close to town, had suitable parking and was secure, especially as we had bikes with us.
It was comfortable and the additional TV Netflix was good for the nights we stayed in. A quiet location.
The kitchen crockery, cutlery and pots were in good condition. We didn't bring towels as it said provided but there was only one bath and one hand between us.
A hairdryer would be helpful but understand it was not on the list of provisions.
- Paul (8/5): Very good - Very spacious apartment. Enjoyed the bedroom being separate and upstairs. It had everything you need and was in a convenient location.
- Katy (8/5): Nice cottage but really only suitable for 2-4 people. - The location was good, the owner was helpful when we needed help. The place was clean and as described. Facilities were a bit limited: the place is advertised as for up to six but there are only chairs and crockery etc for four, there were no large pans suitable for 4-6 people and there were very few towels provided.
- Paul (3/5): Disappointing. This cottage has the potential to be really good, but its location and facilities need to be advertised a - Conveniently located for Alnwick and exploring beautiful Northumberland. However, it is described as a beautiful countryside cottage. It is in fact in a housing estate. We booked this cottage partly because it was advertised as having a washing machine. It does not. We were travelling light so this was a real problem. When I eventually managed to get hold of the manager she said that was a machine in the neighbouring cottage which we could use either Wednesday or Friday morning when it should be vacant. She promised to get back to us with details of how to access the cottage but didn’t until Friday. We wasted 2 whole mornings of our holiday.
The kitchen is poorly equipped, not having scissors, an oven glove or suitable pots and pans to name just a few things.
On our last day we came home to find water dripping into the utility room. Again I contacted the manager via WhatsApp and she said this had never happened before, even though there were clear signs of previous repairs.
On the day we left the manager said she would call me in a couple of days. She never did.
- Joy (9/5): Superb -
- Katharine (9/5): Loved our stay here and would happily stay again. - A lovely cottage in a very convenient place.
Easy to walk into Alnwick and to get to other places from too.
Lovely and warm with a super comfortable bed.
The covered outside area is a great bonus too. Something that looked like mildew on one of the pillow covers.
Some stains on the carpet (but we realise these were probably done by other guests).
- Patricia (9/5): Superb - Great characterful cottage, very comfortable and in a good location.
- Shaun (10/5): Exceptional -
- Emma (9/5): Beautiful and relaxing and the castle was magnificent. - The property was in an excellent location with the pub 5 minutes walk, so first night was covered and they were dog friendly in fact the whole of Alnwick was dog friendly.
A short walk and in a beautiful area to walk dogs.
The host was easy to contact.
would definitely stay again.
Thank you for an amazing stay. Nothing!
- Angela (9/5): I would stay again if wee have to - The comfort of the house
- Joanne (10/5): Lovely accommodation with easy access to all areas - Excellent location, clean tidy with all that was needed
- Ann (9/5): Superb - Airy rooms. Private parking. Good location. Everything we needed.
- Christine (7/5): Warm, comfortable and convenient location. - There was no garden or patio as advertised. Neither was it in the countryside but on the edge of town.
- Clare (9/5): Spacious, comfortable accommodation with parking. Great base to explore the area from. - Spacious rooms and great location. Only 15min walk for us into the centre of Alnwick. Host Sadie was very helpful. Great base to explore from. Nothing negative about the property. Just a lamp in the living room would be a nice addition.
- Nigel (9/5): Very comfortable and enjoyable thank you - Nice location close to amenities and the coast road.
Comfortable spacious and warm Little bit of traffic noise
- Peter (7/5): Good - Kitchen equipment somewhat lacking
- Michael (10/5): Lovely house, comfy bed , nice and quiet - Great location for visiting the Castles up north
- Sally (9/5): Wonderful - Great location . Loved the space , and an extra bonus was the utility room which was great for our 2 dogs. Everything was great
- Ian (8/5): Very good - Good location, quiet, helpful and friendly when contacted.would definitely stay again. Value for money
- Gary (10/5): Exceptional - How cosy it is
- Alison (9/5): A little gem for a last minute break - Location was brilliant, not far from Alnwick and lots to see and do in the surrounding areas too, especially loved Alnmouth Beach.
Sadie, the owner, was very helpful in sorting out the heating very quickly. Cottage was bigger than expected with loads of usual utensils etc. Felt like home from home and will definitely return. Nothing. Just wish I could have stayed longer.
- Karina (10/5): Just a lovely house in a beautiful and convenient location. - What a fabulous cottage and location . Easy to get to and you can park just outside. It’s in a quiet location but not isolated so it’s ideal for getting into Alnwick .
Very spacious and clean . The bed was so comfortable and the views from the rooms were stunning. The click clack sofa bed in the lounge was easy to put up and down and very comfortable .
The shower was good with great water pressure . Having shower gel, shampoo , loo roll and cleaning products provided was handy .
Everything was spotless and kept really nice .
The owner has obviously spent money on quality furnishings. Plenty of sofas to sit on, we really relaxed and had one each .
The tea and coffee that were provided were a welcome surprise and a lovely touch . I’d forgotten a few bits but there was no need to go to the shops to buy washing up liquid and cleaning products as it was all available . There’s a handy little utility room with an additional loo and extra space to put your shoes and coats . Free WiFi and TV , but we didn’t use it much as we were out most of the time . The enclosed courtyard was great for the dog who loved the space . The enclosed courtyard will be great to use in the summer to eat al fresco too as there’s a table and chairs . Lovely green area nearby for a walk and nice scenery .
The cottage is within walking distance to a nice hotel with a bar so we plan to go there next time .
We went to Barters books and the White Swan (Olympic restaurant) for dinner which was only a 5 minute uber ride away (£5 each way ) . We loved it so much we have already booked a return stay for the summer ! A great place to unwind . Highly recommended! The hosts have taken great care in keeping the house immaculate and comfortable. No niggles whatsoever.
- Edwin (7/5): Good -
- Sarah (8/5): Perfect last minute short stay - Good location, spacious and a self contained kitchen. Very easy to get to all the coastal points of interest and close to Alnwick town centre and Amble. Excellent communication from the host.
- Izi (9/5): Countryside Cottage Alnwick - Great cottage within walking distance into Alnwick. Good facilities in kitchen area, dining table and sofas. Bedroom upstairs which could be split into 2xrooms. Ensuite bedroom with small toilet of the utility room.
Good enclosed outdoor area. Which would be great if you had dogs or kids.
Dog friendly. All good.
- Morfa (10/5): We did enjoy spending Christmas in Alnwick and expliring the wonderful coastline. We say a pod of do - We liked the location of the cottage which was within walking distance of Alnwick. We could have done with 3 llarge towels which I asked for and didn’t receive.
We also had to go and buy toilet rls as only one was left.
- Lisalashes (8/5): A lovely location well equipped cottage . Needs a lamp in the living area . We took the bedroom one downstairs . Brillia - Lovely . Just as described . Good location . Dog friendly . Nothing . It was lovely . Bath towels would have been nicer than little towels. The extractor in the bathroom was full of dust (I cleaned it )
Nice comfortable cottage for 2 nights .
Sadie ? Was helpful as it was not warm
When we arrived . Boiler / heating wasn’t on but then warm . ANothing at all that couldn’t be overcome .
- Patrick (10/5): Perfect! - Lovely spacious cottage in great location. Very comfortable.
- Alisdair (10/5): Perfect for a relaxing break. - I was self catering. I'm a bit of a technophobe, so the TV, WiFi and heating controls were a bit complicated for me. I can cope with the kettle and toaster....lol
- Jay (10/5): Exceptional -
- Cara (10/5): It was peaceful and lovely staying here with everything we needed and more. Would love to stay again - It was a really lovely cottage to stay in with a perfect location for parking and close to Alnwick but not stuck right in the middle were it can feel quite busy. Lovely, clean and spacious with hardly any houses next door making it feel very peaceful. Great kitchen and equipment to use. Lovely decoration, beautiful views from the windows, and comfy sofas with TV and netflix to use! The hosts were very responsive, accomodating, and kind giving us an extra couple of hours in the cottage than original checkout time! Would love to stay here again. Would definitely recommend for couples, families or friends travelling to the area, as this accommodation could suit all sorts of occasions! Thank you very much! We would like to have stayed longer!
- Kathryn (9/5): Superb - Location was great, quiet area but close to amenities and links to the coastal areas. Owners were very quick to reply with any questions we had and the cottage had all equipment we needed for our stay . Will definitely visit again. Could benefit from a handy folder/welcome pack with equipment info eg WiFi and TV instructions etc. It's not a negative just a suggestion.
- Gail (8/5): Another great stay - Another great stay in the cottage which has an ideal location for sightseeing and city trips. Lovely rural setting.
- Sharon (8/5): A good place - A spacious cottage and well appointed especially the kitchen which had everything needed to cook a meal. TV also easy to use. Only a very short break but could have spent more time there. A table/mirror near to a plug in the bedroom would be great. Mirror in the bathroom so high so could not use it.
- Julie (9/5): Superb - It was comfortable, warm, and clean. Exactly what we wanted. The bedroom mirror!!
- Moira (1/5): Very disappointed & angry. Should remove from your register. - The property needed a good clean. The shower was disgusting. A broken light in the living room. Tea/coffee caddies filthy. And lack of 'normal channel's on T.v.
We were asked to vacate after 2 nights but have been charged for 3. Were promised a refund still not received.
- Michellle (7/5): Form the price we paid the property suited our needs - There were a few cobwebs in the property but the overall cleanliness was ok. Bedding was not ironed which I did not expect. The main light in the living room did not work. One bedside lamp did not have a socket nearby to plug into.
- Sean (10/5): Exceptional - A lovely comfortable property. The covered outside eating area, was a nice surprise.
- Peter (9/5): Everything was available for a comfortable stay with three grandchildren - Comfortable and clean
Two toilets Nil
Probably need a car to get around - buses sometimes unreliable
- Joanna (8/5): Very good - The cottage is located close to town and within walking distance of Alnwick Castle, our main destination. All amenities functioned properly, and the free parking space is a bonus. The cottage has a useful patio, so you can sit outside even when it's raining. It is a spacious and comfortable place for a family stay. We also visited other places nearby, such as Bamburgh Castle and Seahouses. The cottage would be more convenient with the addition of a small washing machine and a dishwasher for families interested in longer stays.
- Gail (9/5): Great Break - We had a lovely stay. Excellent location and compact facilities inside. Easy access to local attractions. Sadie, the host, was very attentive and helpful.
- Grenville (7/5): Generally comfortable a good base to explore local region. - Location in easy reach of Alnwyck and coast. Comfy bed and sofas.
Adequate crockery cutlery for two people. Bedding clean basic. Bathroom a bit scruffy. Tooth brush holder old and rusty. Glasses filthy with previous occupants moldy toothpaste inside.
Dinning table lights not over table and thick with dust and cobwebs and only one working bulb.Couldn't work out heating and no instructions. Could have used more local knowledge information leaflets.
- Julie (7/5): Apart from the quilt situation I would say it is a good location, clean and tidy. - The property was good and in a good location. The situation was quiet and the outlook was lovely. There are two bed settees one upstairs and one downstairs. The only problem was that there was only one quilt for one of the beds. I contacted the owner who said she would try to get me another one but it never appeared. I did feel that when I spoke to the owner it was as if it property was only for a certain amount of people. If this is so why have a sofa bed in the lounge as there are already two settees to sit on.
- Eleanor (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely comfortable spacious cottage with really friendly hosts. Only a 15-20 minute walk into Alnwick centre. Quiet and homely, had everything you need for your stay!
- Vita (8/5): Kinda wish we could stay longer - Bright, quiet and even more spacious than it looks on the pictures, comfortable and well equipped.
The kitchen comes with microwave, toaster, kettle, cutlery, plates, glassware, mugs and bowls, pots, oven trays, tea bags, coffee, sugar and milk. I remember reading some reviews about lack of kitchen utensils but we had everything we needed.
Very big TV and three super comfortable sofas in the living room; the bedroom is massive with a big double bed, a sofa bed if needed and a big wardrobe which would be super convenient for longer stays. Extra pillows, sheets and duvet were also provided.
We had an issue with the boiler on the first night, but Sadie promptly fixed it the next morning despite it being the weekend and probably struggling to find a technician.
We only stayed three days, but we loved spending the nights in, as we felt right at home there.
Would definitely book again. Honestly scraping the bottom to find something, because we were okay with everything, but I guess it's worth pointing out the cottage is not in central Alnmouth or Alnwick so it would be a lot more convenient to have a car. We either walked (half an hour to Alnwick high street) or relied on buses which don't come very often (once per hour on Sundays, for example). It wasn't an issue for us, but I suppose it could be if you had children with you, for example.
The bus stop is literally 30 seconds from the cottage though, so if you're happy using public transport it's pretty much on the doorstep.
- Oliver (8/5): Very good - Was good value for the money Wasn’t enough towels and sofa bed isn’t very comfy
- Janet (8/5): Very good - Limited cooking facilities (pans etc), but host was able to supply what we needed when we asked.
- David (7/5): Good - Lovely place to visit No television. Dusty
- Surjit (5/5): Not quite up to expectations but adequate enough. - Location Downstairs loo was oddly located
- Victoria (9/5): Superb - A very homely, lovely place to stay. Close to the town centre, the castle and supermarkets.
The host recommended takeaways and activities, we took those recommendations on and enjoyed them.
We didn't have enough towels so I messaged Sadie and she ordered some to be sent straight to the property the next day. Our only niggles were there aren't any chopping knives in the kitchen area and the oven trays were not wiped out properly but it only took a couple of minutes to clean them.
- Cj (8/5): Very good - The cottage is warm and cozy. It is near a bus station which make it accessible to where you plan to go on a day trip. The bed is large enough for two and there are two sofa beds which are comfortable as well. There is extra comforter and sheets for the sofa beds in the wardrobe as well. It was lovely stay and will definitely going to stay there for another trip. We already stayed to other cottages and Airbnb before, due to this, we would like to suggest the following: 1) for someone like us, who usually cook for our breakfast and dinner, it is better if there would be a basic utensils like kitchen knife to use and 2) almost all of the Airbnb and cottages we stayed have toiletries available like soaps and shampoos, it would be better to have that availability, too.
- John (7/5): MEWS COTTAGE - The cottage is only a 10 minute walk from Alnwick Town centre. Parking is free on the street outside of the cottage. It is located at the entrance of a new estate, with lovely woodland walks to the bridge over the river Aln. We were only the 3rd family to stay at the cottage and Sadie, the owner, was very attentive, ensuring we had everything we needed, nothing was a problem. We cooked breakfast and evening meal at the cottage as cooking facilities and utensils available. The cottage is basic, clean and the bed is very comfortable. Morning views delightful, listening to the birds whilst drinking coffee in bed. We will definitely return. No outside garden or patio but there is a roofed yard with table and chairs leading to the side gate to the main street.
- Kirsty (10/5): Lovely stay - Property was bigger than I thought, comfortable and hosts were really good and responsive. Had everything we needed for our 2 night stay. Has a little roofed courtyard which is great for kids playing when it's raining. I can't really say there was anything that I didn't like. If I was being really really picky then maybe some toys/games like skittles for the courtyard area for those rainy days.
- Nyah-renae (7/5): Met our needs, was an enjoyable stay. - The property was in a very convenient area, we were able to easily access the local town and planned attractions for our trip. The multiple large windows added to the atmosphere, and the size of the bedroom with multiple beds provided was great for our group. Having the entire property to ourselves put us at ease and was very enjoyable.
Basic necessities were available, and the property provided sufficient comfort. The host was able to meet any special requests we had regarding check-in/out which was very appreciative. We enjoyed the Netflix provided and the heating which was easy to navigate. The free WiFi was also appreciated. The outer gate doesn't lock, so we didn't feel we could use the patio due to safety reasons. There were no free toiletries aside from toilet paper, so we did have to spend more money buying our own after we checked in.
- Maureen (8/5): We’re a family of 4 with two young children coming to the Alnwick Storyfest from Scotland. We had an enchanting week-end - Mews Cottage is a lovely quirky little house with a covered terrace and a really spacious double bedroom with ensuite bathroom.
The living room is very comfy with three sofas with blankets- we visited in February so it added to the cosy house feel.
The kitchen is perfectly equipped with complimentary tea and coffee.
The cottage is just a 15 min walk from Barter Books, 20 min walk to the playhouse and town centre - and a 10 min drive to Alnmouth beach!
The nearest supermarket is Lidl which is a 2 min drive.
The host, Sadie, was lovely, very flexible and checked in to make sure we’re in and finding everything ok.
