- Malcolm (10/5): -
- Keith (10/5): Very enjoyable, beautiful hotel and super staff ; always helpful and friendly. We’d stay again . - Excellent choices, perfectly cooked, served hot by lovely staff. First class coffee. I understand that today’s financial situation is a cause for concern but it would have been better if there had been more choices.
- Catherine (8/5): - Location great very friendly staff
- Tim (10/5): Just the best. - Excellent breakfast. Dunster is lovely. This hotel knows how to look after guests with dogs. Nothing
- Liz (10/5): Amazing place - would definitely like to return. - Everything about the Luttrell Arms was superb. The facilities, staff, food and general ambience oozed quality but without the slightest hint of stuffiness.
- Katey Stephen (10/5): -
- Sarah (10/5): Highly recommend and will be back! - An excellent family weekend stay celebrating a milestone birthday across 3 generations. Lovely rooms, attentive staff and great food!
- Steven (8/5): A lovely stay in a quaint town. - The breakfast was good and the staff were very pleasant and helpful. The property is very old and there are lots of steps in the corridors and even inside our room. It was a very convenient location because we were attending a wedding reception held at the hotel. Parking was a problem.
- Helen (10/5): Relaxing, very well looked after, stunning surroundings, I could live there, thankyou so much. - Luttrell Arms is an amazing place, beautiful, so much history. There is nothing I don’t like.
- Andrew (10/5): A great location to explore Exmoor from - Excellent draught beers, food, service and location The lack of parking might be a challenge in summer months.
- Wilder (8/5): - Very comfortable hotel with some great history. The staff were welcoming and very helpful. The reception team carried our bags up the stairs to our room. Not the hotels fault but not many places open in the village but it did make on street parking easy. Most places open for Easter.
- Jonathan (9/5): Brilliant - we will be back ! - Wonderful character and charming staff. Excellent food too Nothing
- Sarah (9/5): A wonderful treat night away while house hunting in the area. - Small hotel with a history. Performed well above the 3 star status, with welcoming, pleasant staff. All were helpful and keen to give you the best stay possible.
Food selection was good, and well prepared, making for a special evening. Lack of parking outside the hotel, but only to be expected with such a historic town.
- Philip (8/5): -
- K J (10/5): Very enjoyable. Accommodation, staff, facilities very nice. -
- Richard (9/5): -
- Janet (10/5): Great quirky period hotel, cosy and welcoming. - Very welcoming, cosy period rooms with real fires.

Great choice at breakfast cold and hot. 🤷♀️nothing.
- marie (10/5): Fabulous - Wonderful hotel and fab staff. So helpful and kind Loved it all
- Davis (9/5): -
- Stephen (9/5): - Excellent staff and really well run hotel Nothing really
- Graham (10/5): - This wonderful gem of a Hotel will not disappoint - the current owners have sympathetically renovated this wonderful old building
The staff are extremely friendly and helpful - we are very much looking forward to visiting again
- Adrian (9/5): Excellent loved it - Great location Parking very easy but a shame they have none. In February it was straightforward but I bet the summer could get tricky.
Pillows pillows pillows. Just too soft.
- Hannah (10/5): A special experience great food great staff we will be back - The property was excellent lots of character great location and very comfortable The building has a lot of history lots of nooks and crannies a lovely atmosphere
- Brian (8/5): A comfortable relaxing break - We've been coming here through 4 owners and more years than we care to remember and it still has the same relaxed country vibe with friendly staff and comfortable rooms. The food just doesn't thrill, it's of a reasonable pub standard, and the coffee at breakfast is awful and would be more suitable for fence painting.
- Jackie (10/5): -
- Lionel (8/5): -
- David (7/5): -
- Jonathan (8/5): Very enjoyable miserable January stay. - An old good cosy country hotel. Car parking close by was not possible as the few places in high street busy.
- Oliver (10/5): -
- Derek (9/5): -
- Joanne (8/5): Historic atmosphere, four-poster bed, and pizza in the pub garden - A very atmospheric old inn, with lovely courtyard and garden, and various cosy nooks in the bar. Worth paying for the room upgrade to get the full experience. The pizzas in the garden were good quality and Sunday roast was good too, but the breakfast was more average. Service when dining was a little variable, but good enough during my visit. Dunster Castle and its gardens was what drew me to this hotel, and it's a lovely quaint little village for 2-3 night breaks, possibly longer if you have a car to make day trips with. The bus journey from Taunton station was fairly long and overcrowded, but that's to be expected during school summer holidays. The EX1 coach trip to Lynton or onward to Ilfracombe is a nice journey with great scenery if you are combining Dunster with Devon. Unfortunately they could not run the open-top buses as the various councils / land owners had not cut back their trees to make it safe on the upper deck. A little limited on vegetarian options in the bar food menu, service erratic at times, but always friendly. A little more effort on the breakfast menu would be appreciated.
- Paul (10/5): Stunning location, stunning village, great staff, lovely hotel, what more can I say 👍 - The setting and the gardens., the staff were all very friendly and helpful, due to the weather it was very hot, the receptionist was very helpful and offered me her fan for my room 😊 Nothing, I knew parking would be an issue but it wasn’t a problem for me as I was able to park in a locked car park as I was attending a wedding
- Amanda (10/5): -
- Mark (9/5): - The hotel is superb as always. Stayed here a few times in the past and never disappoints. So many nooks and crannies !! Can't wait to come again in April. The only bugbear is the Internet was dodgy at times.
- John (10/5): Fabulous - Beautiful hotel , bedroom was lovely , shower great . Breakfast and dinner were excellent and staff very friendly and helpful . Nothing
- David (10/5): Delightful pre-Christmas stay in this beautiful hotel. - Good choice of breakfast. Wonderful Xmas decorations. Lovely and warm. Friendly and helpful staff. So glad we discovered this hotel and will definitely stay again. Would recommend to others. My husband asked for ice cream on his pudding instead of cream and was told he would have to pay extra because ice cream was more expensive which we thought was a bit odd.
- Sharon (10/5): A really welcoming, friendly place to stay - Beautiful olde worlde pub and hotel. The restaurant food wasn’t as good as it’s been in previous visits.
- david (9/5): Times may change but standards must be maintained, the Luttrell does JUST THAT - The general ambience Car parking a bit of a problem
- Andrew (10/5): -
- Elizabeth (7/5): Relaxing friendly hotel in great location! - We had 4 very enjoyable nights here mid November, our room (room 3) was attractive, comfortable & spacious with steps down to the lobby & cupboard & ensuite bathroom. The bedroom had great views onto the Yarn Market whilst the bathroom looked directly towards the castle. We had a kettle, teas & coffees & a little fridge which was very useful. The super Kingsize bed was very comfortable & we especially appreciated the soft pillows we’d requested.
Staff were all very helpful & friendly. In the restaurant while it was clear they had not reserved a specific table for my husband’s birthday dinner, ( just the two of us) Tamara came to the rescue & then pulled out her notes of our food preferences & told me which dishes could be adapted from the menu. There was limited choice for vegetarians. Tamara was attentive, even though our table was out of the way ‘in Siberia’ - we were the only diners in the empty dining room downstairs from the main restaurant - we had a nice window seat & she also gifted us our deserts by way of celebration.
We would have tried other restaurants in Dunster but the two most popular ones were closed & we enjoyed the Luttrell Arms so ate in the bar on the other 3 nights. The bar has a more cosy relaxed feel & the same menu as the restaurant, which did vary on day 3 giving us more choice.
It’s in the high street so an easy walk to the castle and shops. Parking is challenging! We loved it & will definitely recommend so these are small niggles. We weren’t shown around on arrival so explored the public rooms but didn’t see a lounge anywhere to read a book, have coffee & socialize with other guests other than the bar. There was a pretty courtyard with tables under a canopy but it was not in use & too cold to sit outside anyway, so we sat in our room after dinner, where we had two comfy chairs but not sure what less expensive rooms have.
We did not watch tv until our last night when we wanted to catch the last episode of a series. But the wifi was so weak in our room that the streaming was constantly interrupted. My husband gave up & went to sleep but I persisted- must have restarted it 8 or 9 times, which got very tedious!
- Robert (10/5): -
- Teresa (10/5): - Staff were very attentive and dealt with food allergies
- Rebecca (10/5): -
- Robert (10/5): - The hotel and its surroundings Lack of attention taken, by a member of staff who tried to take away food which we hadn't finished, but she didn't ask
- Tom (10/5): Fabulous stay. - Staff were fantastic
- Tim (9/5): Warm and friendly, comfort food hotel - like shepherd's pie or rice pudding! - Best place in town. Great food, great bar, good people Tricky parking during the day as it is a busy town and they do not have a car park. But the town Pay & Display is a short walk away and if you overpay it gets added on to the following day, so you don't have to get up and move it!
- Jerry (10/5): Excellent-we shall return! - Well run, atmospheric and great food and great staff
- Peter (8/5): Helpful staff! -
- Hilary (10/5): Very comfortable and excellent staff - Breakfast was superb, great choice and mainly local produce.
- Brian (10/5): -
- Ann (10/5): Very impressed indeed.Like stepping into Tudor times but with modern sanitation and comforts. - Ambiance ,historical details, comfort.Relaxed atmosphere.
Comfortable bed, lovely bathroom.Superb food for evening meals. There is no car park.No problem finding a space when we visited in October but could be difficult in the busy season.
- Janet (10/5): Staff go above and beyond to make your stay feel special, food is excellent and accommodation is stunning . Will definit - You can not fault this property, it’s stunning. Staff are very friendly, accommodation is excellent, food is brilliant.
10/10 I would recommend this property . Nothing
- Stefanie (10/5): -
- Beverley (10/5): Relaxing and enjable, great atmosphere - Beautiful old hotel exceptional service and great food It was all great
- Andrew Collins (9/5): -
- Geoff (7/5): Lovely hotel but overdue maintenance let it down - Great breakfast!, all the hotel food was first class The bed sloped to one side and was generally uncomfortable. The shower was difficult to use and hard to set. The toilet door lock was poor and proved impossible to open without assistance twice. All in all our room needed some TLC
- Susan (8/5): Nice, relaxing few days. - Wonderful old building yet modern comfort in the rooms. Shower over bath, dreadful things.
- Gregory (9/5): - Very good location if you want to be in a small, English castle village. Locals note it is expensive and 'posh' but the hotel staff were quite helpful in many respects. Meal planning, that is as much because it was a last minute trip than anything else. Also, the town is dead on a Sunday.
- Curtis (10/5): Luttrell Arms stay - From the Afternoon Tea to the ease of check in and check out everything was just lovely.
- Peter (10/5): The Luttrell is the ideal watering place from which to enjoy Dunster and that part of Exmoor nearby - I’ve known “The Luttrell” all my life (now 78 yo) and it is still the institution it always was
- Norman (10/5): A very memorable stay and will return soon. - The location is in Dunster below Dunster Castle. Very central as you are on the High Street. Dunster is a very picturesque village and a good stopping off point for exploring the moors. It has a lot of useful shops for walkers. Nothing!
- Syphe (10/5): -
- Andrew (10/5): -
- Cherie Elizabeth (10/5): - Staff were very friendly. Food amazing and quick service. Secret gardens were beautiful. Parking not too good.
- RACHEL (10/5): we will keep coming back! - fantastic staff who can't do enough for you. Beautiful setting, rooms are spacious and furnished to a high standard
incredible food. Easy access to explore the rest of Devon. Very close to beaches and glorious walks
- Nicola (9/5): We loved our stay at the Luttrell Arms. A beautiful old building, but clean and very comfortable. - Loved the location in the centre of Dunster, a tiny medieval village which was very picturesque. Easy parking outside in the main village, but also a car park 2 min walk away. The hotel was quaint and traditional without being tired. Our rooms were very clean and spacious with clean, traditional bathrooms. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was good. We had pizza in the garden one night, and ate in the restaurant the next evening. We felt slightly rushed in the restaurant - we had booked a table for 8pm, but I hadn't realised this was considered a late booking, and the last in a relatively quiet service. We had the feeling the kitchen were keen to close. I think I would have liked to have been informed that the kitchen closes at 8.30 or 9.00 and been given the option to arrive earlier, rather than accommodating an 8pm arrival and then rushing us through. However, the waiter was very friendly and the food was excellent, so this is a minor point.
- Joanne (10/5): - Perfect location for us as we wanted to visit some national trust properties. Beautiful hotel with lovely lounge areas & the garden was fab. Hotel bedroom & bathroom was good size & very comfortable.
All staff were extremely pleasant & helpful - nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was very good & we had evening meal for 2 nights as well - all good.
- Richard (10/5): -
- Simpson (10/5): - Staff were amazing, very friendly, and helpful. The hotel is very dog friendly.
- Charles (8/5): -
- Anne (10/5): -
- Merete (10/5): - Veldig koselig
- c (8/5): Great location - Unique, Charming and comfortable Dogs allowed in all bedrooms/on beds - so questionable cleanliness
- Helen (10/5): Impressive - It was a perfect stay in the hotel, location was great, comfy and clean room and fab dinner. Nothing
- Anthony (10/5): Mac's review. - All the food was very good and the service, except, for breakfast on the morning of the 31st July 25 when the breakfast room was prepared incorrectly and the service not up to the standards of the previous two days although the food was. Overall I throughly enjoyed my stay there and would certainly stay there again. 😊 ....as above. The breakfast room wasn't properly ready on one of the three mornings.
- Robert (9/5): Superb -
- Emma (9/5): Superb -
- Susan (10/5): Fantastic stay, a return that lived up to expectations. - Ambience, staff, garden, room comfort, breakfast. Stairs- it’s an old building and the stairs are uneven, sound but not evenly spaced due to the age of the building.
- Dianne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ray (9/5): Superb - Decor One bar staff person who was insolent
- Alan (9/5): Superb -
- Gareth (9/5): Excellent - The setting, the room and the music festival. The staff very friendly, Luke was excellent. A couple of small things, having to order different food types from different locations, when these are all on the same till. We ordered 3 meals on the first night that included chips, no chips received and waiter thought they weren’t included, due to busy queues we went without. It was a very busy night and in the scheme of things we didn’t bother to complain. Not a major problem just a hiccup.
- Richard (8/5): Great - Wonderful rooms atmosphere history stunning views Can hear clear talking through walls in bedrooms
- Gavin (10/5): Excellent English Country hotel. Superb staff, wonderful atmosphere, great food 10/10 - Wonderful English Country hotel. Superb staff, wonderful atmosphere, great food and brilliant Dunster on the doorstep
- Matt (10/5): Exceptional -
- Martin (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was excellent
- Jane (8/5): We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, thank you - Location was good, central to village and castle.
Breakfasts were excellent.
Staff friendly and helpful.
Room was comfortable and though a small double it had everything we needed. The evening menu was limited for vegetarians.
