Guest Reviews
- James Leach (9/5): -
- samantha (10/5): Perfect stay - Beautiful location perfect for a stay in Shrewsbury lovely pub and an amazing breakfast ( which we paid extra for however so worth it ) would definitely recommend it !
- Pubs (8/5): Good for overnight stop. Evening meal and breakfast.. - Good visit here for an overnight stop. Friendly, helpful staff, particularly Amanda O. Good pub food, a little pricey, but not much else here, pub wise for an evening out. Lovely setting, comfortable restaurant area. Off street parking.
The room itself, I gave only 3 because although it was comfortable with an ensuite, tea and coffee making facilities etc. I found the room not to my personal liking, due to the lack of windows and air.
Glass in the door only with obscure fenestation. Others may not be so concerned.
Good local walk (before breakfast) to the church and church farm.
Good breakfast. Very flexible for chose with cooked, yoghurt and toast on offer. Windowless room..
- Adam (9/5): -
- Holland (10/5): Fantastic stay - Friendly staff, warm welcome ,lovely room, great food.Easy parking good venue for walking Felt the restaurant could have been a bit cosier. Mocktail arrived in a tumbler, had to ask a nicer glass
- Richard (6/5): Great apart from room ! - Nice building and super friendly staff with great breakfast Sleeping in the stables was under whelming and we would not want to do it again !
- CAROLINA (9/5): -
- Alan (7/5): Convenient lication for overnight stay in our way to North Wales. The breakfast was excellent! - Amanda who checked us in was very friendly and also at Breakfast. Our room was ok and comfortable and the Breakfast was superb! We could not get the room radiator or Bathroom towel rail to heat up (there had been some plumbing issues apparently. Also the shower water temperature was luke warm which could be related to the heating issue.
- CHRISTOPHER (9/5): -
- lee (6/5): no chair to take shoes on/off bed not comfy - staff were lovely room/bed wasnt comfortable
- beryl (8/5): -
- Jeremy (9/5): - Food was great, room very comfy - a minor niggle, which didn't detract from the stay, was that the bathroom was cold (we stayed in February)
- TREVOR (9/5): - Staff where lovely food was amazing location fab Nothing
- diana (6/5): Staff and food great, but wouldn't stay there again. Go for the restaurant only. - Breakfast was lovely, staff were brilliant. Our room was not attached to main building, was a bit like a large garden shed. Pillows and bed not comfortable. Bathroom was very small and awkward to get in and out.
- Jonathan (3/5): as above - What breakfast? What dinner? My wife thought our room in the external block (converted stables?) one step up from a caravan park. Accessing the room in the dark a nightmare, managed it only thanks to the kind help of the other resident. Property and Booking.com urgently need to liaise about what is and what is not available out of season. Major disappointment. as above
- Michelle (10/5): Overnight stay whilst visiting relatives, good food and good nights sleep - Quiet, clean, good room size Nothing!!
- Glenn (8/5): Comfortable and enjoyable - Homely friendly staff No dinner available on Tuesday evenings
- Claire (9/5): It was a very relaxing stay . We really enjoyed our 3 nights there. - Very well maintained property . Very good staff who were attentive without being ‘in your face’. They did an excellent job in a very popular restaurant. The food was excellent . The doggy room we were in could have been more private - the door opened on to the car park and , as it was v hot we did need it open quite a lot. There is space outside to improve this.
- ALAN (9/5): -
- Tina (10/5): - Nice little country pub Could do with softer pillows
- Elizabeth (6/5): If the mattresses were replaced I would recommend this hotel. - Warm and peaceful room overnight.
Staff were friendly. We didn’t eat in the restaurant but it seemed like a nice place to dine. The location is good, easy to travel into Shrewsbury. We stayed in the Muntjack room. The mattresses were uncomfortable and need to be replaced. Both of the single mattresses that made up the double bed dipped in the centre, felt thin, and made for an uncomfortable nights sleep.
- Jeremy (3/5): Difficult - Good location On arrival room was freezing. We were given a dog friendly room with no check on whether we had any allergies.
Bathroom had no window/fan which I believe is against building regulations
- Ann (6/5): Disappointing - Location Door didn’t lock, heating in room very odd including an electric heater, breakfast staff very unhelpful and unfriendly.
- IAN (10/5): Puddings to die for - Staff where helpful and friendly The food was perfection
- Lesley (8/5): -
- Simon (7/5): - Poor lighting outside the barn room. Room itself was stiflingly hot, handles missing from wardrobe doors & no door on shower so caused a mess & near flood every time shower was used.
Bathroom was also cold, a contrast to the boiling hot room.
- Philip (1/5): Uncaring, terrible customer service, don’t respond promptly to complaints. Avoid - I was a female travelling alone.I got to the pub about 8.15 pm.
No prior contact on check in procedure , pub and car park unlit when I arrived, felt very unsafe. Could not get into room as pub was not manned, had to drive around the countryside looking for other accommodation.By chance when I was checking into the hotel someone over heard our conversation and contacted the manager of the Haughmond
Pub has not responded promptly to my complaints and emails, company has only offered a half price stay in the future which goes no way in compensating the inconveniences they caused. I have tried to contact them again, but they are ignoring my complaint.
Room was not heated when I eventually got in and took an hour to warm up. They clearly don’t care about their guests / customer service. Avoid!
- Barry (10/5): Excellent - Everything was perfect Nothing
- Lawrence (8/5): -
- Dewi (10/5): Perfect - Great location Liked it all
- David (8/5): Enjoyable - Excellent breakfast. We stayed on a Tuesday and unfortunately the restaurant was closed so couldn’t try the dinner menu, but if it’s as good as the breakfast you won’t be disappointed. Front door to the pub was locked on arrival at 5:30pm. Had to search for a rear entrance to the bar through some patio doors.
- Elouisa (10/5): -
- Andrew (10/5): - Welcoming staff, evening meal was excellent and the breakfast was amazing 👏 Nothing
- David (8/5): Good -
- Ross (10/5): Great food, lovely rooms and a wonderful base to explore - Great location, lovely room and a fabulous meal in the evening There was a smell of drains in the foyer but I’m sure that was just a temporary plumbing issue
- Jonathan (4/5): - Good breakfast, although expensive and not a great choice of things to eat. Small amount of bread cut into tiny pieces. The reception staff didn't manage to take the payment from Booking.com, a training issue? We ended up paying twice and now are trying to recover the money from Booking.com. Very frustrating.
Some not very nice hairs left found on a shelf above the sink.
- Smith (6/5): - The good
The breakfast and breakfast staff were very good. Excellent breakfast. Catered for my wife's allergies and found food that she could safely enjoy. The bad
Evening meal very difficult for anybody with allergies. Eventually agreed to supply ham omelette and chips for my wife, I had steak and chips. Asked for gluten free bread - not available. Asked for alcohol free Guinness - not available . Sweet menu nothing for allergies. Asked if they had sorbet - not available. Gave up had coffee. Bill just over £60 for steak and chips, omelette and chips and two coffees.
Yeah right.
The ugly
Tiny room. Miniscule shower room. Ancient fittings. Booked a twin room got a double bed, eventually staff split it into two narrow singles. One armchair with leg hanging off, one hard kitchen chair. Asked for them to be changed. Damaged chair changed hard chair not changed, why, replacement not available. Pillows hardly hotel standard, ok for my wife but I removed the pillow and put a cushion in the case and that worked.
If one uses the loo, best not to lean forward or you might smack your head on the wash basin.
Would I book there again
YOU MUST BE JOKING.
- WANDA (10/5): -
- Jodie (10/5): -
- Joanne (5/5): Accommodation poor, food very good. - Food was very good. Room was shabby. Beds uncomfortable and only had one pillow each. Bathroom shabby. Wardrobe broken. The outside rooms are like a prison cell.
Gratuity added to bill automatically without asking if we were willing.
- Michael (9/5): -
- Teresa (9/5): We would recommend and return. - Breakfast and dinner are exceptional. Staff are friendly, professional and always helpful. The Haughmond is an old coaching inn so within the limitations of interestingly shaped interiors the rooms are very comfortable. We would have liked somewhere to sit together to play cards and chat after dinner.
- Rachel (10/5): Lovely spot in a great location, close to the venue where my - Friendly welcome on arrival. Was promptly asked if I wanted to book dinner for the evening. Taken to my accommodation and let in, as opposed to just being handed the keys which was really nice touch. Not a massive issue but as I was leaving at 8.30, I was unable to return my keys to someone in person in the hotel/bar itself itself. Had to knock on the door of the cafe to hand them over to a staff member opening that up for the day.
- Andrew (10/5): Lovely stay near Shrewsbury - True character pub and excellent restaurant, we ate and drank very well indeed. Plenty of folks from surrounding area frequenting the restaurant, need I say more.
Place is very dog friendly, there’s even a field out the back where they can run. Room was very comfortable, shower excellent.
- Jane (8/5): - Breakfast was outstanding! Room on the small side.
- Lesley (9/5): Excellent food and peaceful stay - Excellent food! Also lovely staff and atmosphere. Peaceful setting made for a gorgeously silent night’s sleep. Nothing.
- Sue (8/5): Comfortable and stylish . - Very attractive inn … very well appointed in pretty village . Lovely garden Nothing
- Jayne (5/5): Mixed review but with a few tweaks could easily be upgraded. - Food in restaurant for both dinner and breakfast was excellent, good value and staff were very pleasant. Able to park right outside . Location quiet and peaceful but need a car as off beaten track The room-Basil. Requested twin, left as a double. Very dark room with no windows to open. Only 1 hard pillow each on bed. Water damage in en suite where shower has warped skirting and vanity unit which in turn housed a few bugs.
- Steven (9/5): -
- Peter (8/5): -
- Kate (9/5): - Food was very good staff excellent... Lovely room although the beam was a bit low for someone who is 6 ft 🤣
- Electrotechnical (9/5): all good thanks - All good not applicable
- Jessica (10/5): -
- Reuben (9/5): - Comfortable, peaceful and delicious breakfast Room door locks could be modernized.
- Michelle (10/5): Nice romantic night away - Lovely staff, quiet location, excellent food Nothing
- Anne (8/5): Great food, great staff great location - Food was excellent, both breakfast and dinner. Quality food. I think the room we had may have previously been used by a dog owner. There was a distinct “Doggy” smell to the room which was not good. The bathroom was also rather cramped. Opening the door meant you couldn’t exit the bathroom easily
- Hannibalc1 (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ronald (9/5): Superb - Lovely location. Comfortable room. Excellent evening meal and breakfast. Highly recommend.
- Edwards (6/5): Lovely location but food sadly disappointing - The property was beautifully located near Haughmond Hill and was close to Shrewsbury and other key points of interest.
The staff were wonderful, but unfortunately we were really disappointed by the food. We ate here in the evening and the food was bland, with little taste. The breakfast was better but again we were left very disappointed since The Haughmond advertised its award-winning food. N/a
- Christine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Russell (8/5): Meets expectations - Independent hotel - close to where we were visiting. Good breakfast! Wifi - poor reception in the room.
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andrew (10/5): Great place to stay, will come again. - Amazing staff, very friendly and helpful. Amazing food for dinner and breakfast. EV charger was great. Nothing
- James (4/5): Disappointing - On arrival although greeted very friendly discovered it was closed on Mondays. Not mentioned in website or bookings details. Very poor Needs complete overhaul of main building. Annex whee we stayed was modern and new
- Rosslyn (10/5): Amazing food in a lovely Shropshire village with interesting church - The food was exceptional and we would definitely visit again. The village has some wonderful views and the staff are very friendly and pleasant. I think we would go for a nicer room next time and pay a bit more!
- Sally (9/5): A good stay - Excellent food. Main building tasteful and comfortable. Very pleasant staff. No facilities to hang clothes as rail broken and small. Room a little dark
- Daly (9/5): Great stay in a lovely hotel - Comfortable clean rooms, generous supplies, great breakfast, friendly staff, excellent EV charging, great meals
- Steve (9/5): Superb -
- Mark (10/5): Outstanding value - Great location, great rooms, great food and friendly welcoming staff.
- Judy (9/5): Superb -
- Eric (8/5): Very good -
- Nicholas (10/5): Fabulous! - Exceptional food, friendly staff. Love the Haughmond! Our third stay! Convenient location for Shrewsbury and North Wales Aware that bathrooms need some attention, shower did not drain well.
- Edward (8/5): Convenient location - Excellent food Room rarther small
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing stay recently at the Haughmond Inn. Such a beautiful location, with views of the Wrekin and surrounding countryside.
My wife and were celebrating an anniversary and felt very welcome, a smile at the door which carried on all the way to booking out. Very helpful and friendly staff that placed YOU at the centre, nothing too much for them.
The food was gorgeous, perfectly cooked and tasted amazing. A great selection of drinks and all at competitive prices compared to many boutique hotels.
Which brings me into the room. This room wax FULL of character, huge, beautifully decorated and the bed was luxurious...... a 6 foot by 6 foot mattress where we both slept like logs. My wife and I can't thank you all enought. We WILL be back. Nothing .....!
- Ross (8/5): Really enjoyable - Lovely location Staff were really welcoming and friendly and a lovely breakfast.
- Sally (9/5): Perfectly peaceful! - Beautiful peaceful location, very comfortable and I love the individual bedrooms.
Great food, both at breakfast and in the restaurant.
Lovely team of staff, everyone is friendly and welcoming.
- Karen (10/5): Great place that stay for a short break. - Friendly welcome. Lovely room. Great food Nothing
- Rhonda (9/5): Gem in the country - Nice peaceful location. Everyone was very welcoming and great to deal with. Our meal in the restaurant was very good and breakfast was great. Exceptional value for money especially with breakfast included Room was pretty small but had everything we needed
- Diana (6/5): Disappointed - Lovely bar and restaurant, staff very friendly, room comfortable. Although room was comfortable, there were a few issues - £125 per night, no window, no wardrobe, couldn't get WiFi, shower gel ran out while I was in the shower.
- Glynn (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chris (8/5): Pleasant country hotel with good food. - The country setting is very pleasant. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The dinner menu is unusual and very well presented. Breakfast was exceptional, served by a lovely lady. Bathrooms were good with soft fluffy towels. They are very welcoming towards dogs, although the pricing is slightly high for small dogs. The internal staircase up to the bedroom, open on one side, is a little daunting.
- Michael (8/5): Very good - Location, and the night team were very accommodating.Dinner menu was great but, a little too fussy for my tastes.Great choices, and wine list is great also.
Wonderful choice at breakfast too. Not sure if the radiator in the room was working, and the shaving light needs replacing.Coffee at breakfast whilst hot, fresh etc was served in cups, for me a good old fashioned coffee pot would have been better.
- Jennifer (10/5): Restful lovely stay - Thé staff were honestly amazing!
Beautiful garden avd fantastic food. Nothing.
- Edward (10/5): Exceptional -
- Clarke (6/5): Pleasant - The staff were very friendly and polite You couldn't help yourself to Breakfast and dinner menu was sparce having an alcoholic drink downstairs in the evening and was told closing tills now time being 9.45 but due a refit later this year so maybe will improve
- Alison (8/5): Very good - The room was top quality, lean and comfortable The smell of damp /drains when you approach the stairs up to the rooms
- Chris (10/5): Exceptional -
- Claire (9/5): Lovely peaceful village inn with great food. - Lovely quiet location. Nice outlook. Very friendly and helpful staff. The breakfast was really good - excellent quality food as well as being delicious. The entrance lobby off the road which was our first impression was a little shabby and smelly which was a bit off-putting on arrival but everything else was lovely.
- Susan (8/5): Thought cost of evening meal was pricey - Food was good Bedroom was small
- Gerard (9/5): Superb - Staff great.
- Laura (10/5): Hidden gem , the staff where fantastic and the food was amazing - Beautiful property with working
- Mandy (9/5): Great breakfast - Breakfast was excellent, set menu with choices, no self-service but was actually better than expected. Staff lovely and friendly. Shower hose very difficult to remove. Room quite oppressive with only a small window and solid door in Boris room.
