- Stuart (10/5): Great public house with rooms and fantastic food and service - Fantastic establishment located in a lovely village. We had a fantastic lunch as well as a great stay. The staff were really helpful and we would not hesitate to return.
- Damian (10/5): - Staff were really helpful and accommodating. Very grateful to them.
Its a short walk from the castle were I was attending a wedding
- Daniel (9/5): 9/10 - Great location/distance of the bar to the room. The room had a fridge which is always useful. The staff were very polite and accommodating. The rooms were clean. A very nice historical building. No mirror in the room area to get ready in. Only continental breakfast available. Which was a muffin, cereal bar, granola and yogurt. A bit basic but I guess it's better than nothing.
- Nicola (8/5): Great stay and had a good sleep, bed was very comfy. - I booked the butchers arms as it was close to clearwell castle where I was attending a wedding. On arrival i was greeted with a friendly welcome, the room was small but had everything I could needed. Beds were comfy, had the best sleep I’ve had in a long time. I would return again, and this time enjoy the food in the pub that smelt so good. Breakfast was included in the room, which was yogurt, oats, muffins and cereal bar. Would have preferred other options, maybe a cooked breakfast/ toast.
- paula (8/5): A beautiful pub which does amazing food, but we probably wouldn’t stay again - We love coming back to the pub we used to visit often when we lived near, everyone is super friendly and welcoming. We thought the breakfast was poor
- Paula (10/5): Perfect Pub & Restaurant - Kerry and Scott both Extremely friendly & helpful and made stay delightful both rooms very clean and comfortable. Nothing all exceptional and would definitely stay there again.
- Rebecca (10/5): A lovely pub/restaurant with character offering great value rooms with everything you need for an overnight stay com - What a lovely quirky place the Butchers arms is. It had a lovely country pub feel to it and the room was comfortable, clean and full of character. Staff were welcoming and couldn’t do enough for you.
- Andy (10/5): -
- Alan (9/5): -
- Jason (7/5): Pleasant stay - Ideal for attending a wedding at the castle up the road Steps to room were steep, door headroom was low and creaky floorboards
- Oliver (8/5): Great location for attending wedding at Clearwell Castle - Great location, comfortable and clean. Good value Check-in not possible before 12 meaning we had to leave the wedding to come and check in.
- Michael (8/5): Great, convenient - Clean and accessible. The food in the pub. Tv didn’t work properly but was not really an issue.
- LCripps (10/5): - Staff were super friendly. Rooms clean and comfortable The showers were a little small. But I'm also 6'4 210.
- Ryan (8/5): - We attended a wedding at clearwell castle.
.Accommodation was a short walk from the venue,.
It had it's indepentant access so there was no time limit to returning.
Accommodation was clean and comfortable the only flaw was the TV had no signal.
Staff were welcoming friendly and helpful.
Breakfast was a disappointment the option of a full English breakfast would have been appreciated.
- Avril (9/5): Great place to stay for a function at the castle. Great value for money. - Nice comfortable room with good facilities including a mini fridge. Very close to the castle if you’re attending a function there. Friendly staff and great pub with good food TV in the room has very poor reception.
- Sally (10/5): Brilliant - would love to return for another stay - We loved everything about the Butchers Arms! We stayed for two nights as we attended a wedding at Clearwell Castle - the rooms were comfortable & had everything we needed and more. Breakfast compromised of various items located in the room and the fridge - milk, yoghurt, cereal, juice …. We also had an evening meal in the pub which was superb.
The staff were very friendly and helpful and the service was great. Highly recommend for a perfect weekend break The only advice is to take a mirror for getting ready / hair drying. There is is one in the bathroom
- Ngoc (9/5): hidden gem in clearwell - good, nice and clean room, good continental breakfast nothing
- Darryll (9/5): Superb -
- Paul (5/5): Passable -
- Anthony (10/5): Staff were great on arrival rooms nice great location if you have a wedding in the castle - OK More choices for breakfast
- Jean (6/5): Room basic but clean and bed comfy enough. O.K. For a couple of nights.Would stay again. - Very good continental breakfast in the room. Friendly staff. Nice bathroom (shower only no bath) Water pressure in shower not good. No hairdryer in the room & full length mirror in the room would be useful. Pub don't do sandwiches and only snack available early evening was a bowl of chips.
- Janeo5 (9/5): Good location and friendly welcome. - Friendly welcome, comfortable room with well stocked fridge for breakfast. I liked having breakfast in the privacy of my room and good to have a full size mug of tea. We were going to a wedding at the castle and it was very handy for that, a short walk up the road. My friends were in the next room (there are just two rooms together) and I could hear them chatting and moving around and the extractor fan. Not a problem for us, we are friends, but something to know if you are a very light sleeper.
- Lindsay (9/5): Superb -
- Daniel (10/5): Good value for money - Ideal for what you need. Comfortable beds, lovely traditional pub and good service. We stayed for a wedding at Clearwell Castle and the location was perfect.
- Astbury (2/5): Disappointing stay - The location to the wedding venue was the only benefit The beds were really uncomfortable with the quilt being tiny so every time you turned over to try and get more comfortable, a blast of cold air would hit you. No WIFI password was given nor was there any info in the room. The carpet hadn't been hoovered. The "continental" breakfast was minimal, more of a light breakfast. Shower pressure was terrible. I have emailed the establishment on 29th January but am still waiting to hear back
- Bridie (8/5): Very good -
- Dafydd (8/5): Lovely room and staff. - Lovely pub and restaurant attached. Easy access. Unfortunately hot water was off in the morning.
- Naomi (8/5): Very good -
- Jane (9/5): Superb - Very friendly staff . Excellent location. We had a continental breakfast in our room , that was fresh and meant we could eat breakfast at a time that suited us . We had an evening meal in the pub , this was delicious.
- Sarah (10/5): Great little place, very reasonable price and perfect location. - The guys at the Butcher Arms we're great! They very friendly and super helpful when I had some questions/requests before arrival. Location is perfect for Clearwell Castle events! Small amount of noise outside in evening, but can't be helped and finished before bedtime.
- Leigh (9/5): Cozy, comfortable stay - Really friendly staff, the continental breakfast and drinks provided were yummy and nice to eat at our leisure and the meal we had at the pub was DELICIOUS!! The only issue we had was the lack of full length mirror, our stay was due to a wedding at the castle and we would’ve liked a full length mirror when getting ready.
- Williams (8/5): Wedding stay. - location was close to Clearwell Castle where we attended a wedding. Price was very reasonable. We weren't too keen on the breakfast.
- Darren (9/5): Superb service location, food. Would definitely come again - Location was unbeatable, room was adequate, bed was creaky, with bedding and little on the tight side. Breakfast was just right. Pub and it's food could not be faulted at all, perfect. Bedding could be bigger, plus a little less creaky.
- Liley (9/5): Excellent - Excellent location. Close to Clearwell Castle for wedding celebration.
Breakfast provided in the room continental style.Fridge and coffee making facilities also in the room.
- Granville (9/5): Charming & Friendly - Great Value - Charming old property, basic but clean & had most things needed for a short stay. Friendly staff.
- Janet (9/5): Superb - Very convenient for Castle
- Margaret (10/5): Exceptional - Breakfast fine..ideal in room! Nothing...very satisfied would highly recommend !
- Evans (10/5): The staff were really helpful, the room was very clean and comfortable, continental breakfast was good. - The room was good. It was a perfect location for the wedding being held at Clearwell Castle. Would have been great if there was a mirror (preferably full length) in the bedroom so I could see to dry my hair. I asked for an extension lead, which they provided.
When in the shower I found the door was hard to push open.
- Anthony (9/5): Overall, an enjoyable stay - 1) Superb restaurant
2) Staff were very friendly
3) Bathroom facilities were good.
4) Good value for money
5) A lovely atmosphere in the bar. 1)The room only had single beds of which were not very comfortable.
2) Continental breakfast could have been a little more generous.
3) The size and channel options on the TV we’re limited.
- Jeff (10/5): Fantastic food, staff and room perfect stay for our daughters wedding at Clearwell castle. - Everything food exceptional staff very welcoming perfct location for our daughters wedding at Clearwell castle we all got together the night before would definitely stay again cant recommend highly enough. Nothing.
- Perston (8/5): Very good -
- David (8/5): Comfy stay, good pub, lovely location. - Great room and super value. Good continental breakfast and very quiet location. Good beer in the pub.
- Clootie (10/5): Short, but excellent stay - A brief, but very nice stay. A warm welcome received at the bar and check in was swift. Both available rooms have outside access up a stone staircase, so one can come and go with ease. Our room was very comfortable. I loved the breakfast bar & high stools. The included Breakfast is continental style and left in the room for guests to enjoy at their leisure. Tasty fresh muffins, breakfast bars, fruit, yogurt and granola. Milk & orange juice can be found in the fridge to accompany the hospitality tray of tea & coffee etc. We left early the following morning so instructions were to leave our key in the key box. So all very efficient. I could hear other guests voices when they returned late evening to room 1, but thankfully not for long.
- Joss (10/5): Ideal Stay - Wedding at Castle and was only a 5 minute walk. Lovely room with everything you need. Tea/coffee, continental breakfast, fridge with water, milk and juice
Clean and tidy room. Free WI-FI available.
- Peter (9/5): A good stay would recommend to others - Although the breakfast was well planned I would have preferred eating not in my room. Menu for dinner was good & the steak perfect..
Our room was comfortable & clean well designed.
Staff friendly & helpful we would visit again Breakfast in our room, although adequate was unexpected
- Grainne (8/5): Great for short stay - Breakfast in room - good selection Room quite small
- Abbi-louise (7/5): Good -
- Graham (10/5): Very pleasant - Breakfast very good, would of liked full English but what we had was very nice Nothing think of
- Sandra (5/5): Passable -
- Andrew (10/5): The team were very attentative & friendly. Delicious meals. Cute room. Very enjoyable stay. - Perfect olde English Country Pub, in a nice village. Run by a great team.
- Kathryn (9/5): Superb -
- Grauwelman (8/5): Very good - The bed was perfect, the room was clean and the staff were friendly. The shower didn't have any pressure, the breakfast was average.
- Karen (10/5): Cosy, comfortable and convenient to wedding venue and pub underneath. - It was very cosy and clean. Nice and close the Clearwell Castle we were attending a wedding at. Breakfast in the room (yoghurt, milk and water in fridge) was a nice touch with muesli, muffin and breakfast bars. Tea and coffee too. It was available at the last minute. Nothing.
- Thomas (8/5): Very friendly welcoming staff. Delicious continental breakfast. Bit noisy at times - Clean and cosy Room noisy at times
- Linda (8/5): Very good - Room was great and spotless Room was cold when we arrived. Very disappointed with breakfast.
- Garry (9/5): The room was comfortable and just what was needed. The staff were very accommodating. - The breakfast was a good continental breakfast. It was self-service in the room. I would have preferred a full English breakfast but that was only a minor concern.
- Lauren (9/5): Comfortable stay - We were just staying overnight for a wedding nearby. Room was clean and comfortable. Was nice to have the breakfast snacks in the fridge - yoghurt, granola, muffin, orange juice. Nothing
- Ian (9/5): Good recommend. - Friendly staff. Great food in the restaurant. Took our desert to the room as we were both tired after a day riding. Bedroom was basic but had everything we needed. Self serve breakfast too which suited us. Overall good stay. Bed could be a bit more comfortable but good other than that.
- Cath (8/5): Great one night stay - Staff excellent
Food in restaurant excellent
Warm and cosy
- Anthony (4/5): Disappointing and disappointed. - A very poor room in all aspects. Everything pertaining to the room.
- Warren (5/5): Not worth the money - Very close to the castle. Nice pub The place itself was very cheap. Couldn't move had to go on your side and shuffle the walls are very thin and you can hear everything.
- Sandra (10/5): Really pleasant stay. I accidentally left a ring in the room. I called when I realised. They had found it and were going - Nice spacious room.
Very clean.
Very nice friendly staff.
- Tilley (10/5): Exceptional -
- Zoe (10/5): Would recommend! - Very clean and comfortable! Well equipped! Perfect for a one night stay and located a few minutes walk from Clearwell caves! N/a
- Sue (8/5): Very reasonable priced room. Lovely location. Clean space with comfy beds. Friendly staff. - The breakfast was sufficient as a continental . Liked the way it was presented . The location was wonderful. We ate at the restaurant and the food was really good. If the weather had been kinder we could have sat outside where they had tables and a lovely waterfall type feature. Very relaxed atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. only thing I can think of was to have a hook on the back of the bathroom door. Needed somewhere to hang clothes for a shower. Nothing else I could find fault with.
- Hawkes (10/5): All in all very good - Breakfast ok but would prefer cooked option N/a
- Matthieu (8/5): Very good -
- Lorraine (8/5): Lovely place to stay . Food looked lovely. - Lovely little place to stay for an overnight stay.
- Esmeralda (5/5): Needs a little bit more effort - Very convenient to Clearwell Castle.
Scott was very nice. Could use a good cleaning. The shower was moldy on the inside, and outside edges were very dusty bath and soiled. Bathroom floors were also very dirty.
Beds were not comfortable, and the coverlet seemed old and worn
- Chris (8/5): Very good -
- Martin (10/5): Exceptional - Great staff, and nice room
- Jordan (9/5): Superb - Continental breakfast in room was OK. Cooked breakfast at the pub would have been perfect.
- David (8/5): A good overnight stay with good restaurant and bar. - Continental breakfast already in your room. Good rear parking for my motorcycle. Friendly staff. Room was smaller than expected but sufficient for one night.
- Debra (7/5): Good - Location goid Breakfast not good very dry
- Sarah (7/5): Good -
- Shailly (7/5): Good -
- Anonymous (10/5): A great weekend away - Really comfy beds, had a great nights sleep. Food in bar was excellent. Nothing
- Kate (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing location
Character room and pub
Lovely staff
- Sarah (8/5): Great location. - Great location for a wedding at Clearwell Castle. Lovely staff. Nice clean room with everything we needed. I may have missed it but the wifi code displayed in the room would have been helpful.
- Townsend (10/5): If only they were all like this... - Met with a smile and great service. Easy check in. Great room. Very clean and light. Blinds shut out the sun well in the morning. Very close to the castle which is where our event was. Continental breakfast was a great light breakfast before we headed off.
- John (7/5): Rather expensive for fairly basic accommodation. - Breakfast not as expected. Location excellent.
Beds were comfortable. Room clean. We assumed a cooked breakfast but instead a continental breakfast was supplied in the room. No choice offered. Storage space very limited. Inadequate surface area for items, especially for eating breakfast.
- Watkins (10/5): Exceptional -
- Georgina (8/5): Very good -
- Ben (8/5): Very good -
- Mark (5/5): Passable - Location close to the wedding venue that we were attending Room was very small. We have paid the same or less for much better accommodation in this and the surrounding areas. Reception was at the bar so had a fairly long wait to check in because of people getting served their drinks and ordering food.
- Kim (10/5): Exceptional -
- Teify (5/5): Passable - Breakfast was average Someone being around in the morning to communicate with would have been better but didn't see a soul
- Andrew (8/5): Very good -
- Kerry (7/5): Good - The continental breakfast and provisions in the fridge were very good. The sound insulation wasn't great so I was disturbed when the people next door walked about. I would have liked some decaff coffee. It would have been good to have had a bit more of a view.
- Jacqueline (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was perfect , the room the breakfast & the meal in the resturant
- Iwona (10/5): Great time! - I highly recomend to stay in Butchers arms. It is located in quiet place, but close to the nearest atraction. We had a very good time. Meals served at restaurant were delicious, staff very helpfull😉👍
- Adrian (8/5): Very good -
- Fiona (8/5): Great place to stay to enjoy the quiet countryside or attend a wedding at Clearwell Castle - The location was excellent for attending a wedding at Clearwell Castle. The manager Scott was very kind and helpful. The pub garden looked great and the food for breakfast was good and nice served in my room I found it difficult to do my makeup and hair in the bathroom without a shelf to put items on and a longer mirror would have been helpful
- Sumita (8/5): Great B+B excellent location if a wedding guest at Clearwell Castle - Really convenient location as I was a guest at a wedding at the nearby Clearwell Castle. There was a good variety of breakfast options (muffins, granola, yoghurt, fruit etc) and liked that fresh milk was provided for hot drinks. Bed was very comfortable. Property were really accommodating to early check in request and there’s plenty of parking space. Would have liked a full length mirror in the room as was getting ready for a wedding
- Victoria (7/5): Quaint building - It was a quaint room in a lovely location. The restaurant food was lovely and a nice continental breakfast was put in my room in the evening ready for me to eat at my convenience in the morning. The bed was a little hard and made my hips ache. Unfortunately there was a problem with the T.V. luckily I had a book to read so it didn't concern me too much.
- James (9/5): Lovely stay at the Butchers Arms - My Mum & Dad had a lovely stay at the Butchers Arms, and would not hesitate to stay again. They stayed on a Saturday night, the room was pleasant, very clean and had everything you would need. The service was very good, the staff were friendly and attentive. They enjoyed a very nice evening meal to celebrate their Anniversary.
- Sian (10/5): Great location - Friendly and efficient staff. Perfect location
