Guest Reviews
- Jo-Ann (9/5): A secluded, soul-soothing mountain retreat with jungle views, a private pool. - An absolutely magical mountain escape. Just 15 km from Labuan Bajo, yet completely private and immersed in nature. The two-bedroom cottage is beautifully designed with stunning jungle views, total peace, and a gorgeous swimming pool overlooking the valley. Fresh, nourishing food, birdsong mornings, misty hills, and deep quiet.
Even though we stayed only two nights, it was the perfect way to farewell the old year and welcome the new — grounding, restorative, and unforgettable. We left wishing we’d stayed longer. Highly recommended.
Allez-y !
- Tessa (9/5): - - - -
- Sam (9/5): - Beautifull house on a beautifull location, far away from everything The dinner and breakfast were rather small portions, and pretty expensive
- Kathrine (9/5): Beautiful! Slow living at its best 😊 - The vibe of the cottage and the view is fabulous! The open layout is fantastic and the feeling of viewing the sunset over the jungle and mountains from the hammock is unbeatable. Slow living at its best 😊
The host is very attentive and was present almost all of the time and shared his stories of living in Flores and Indonesia with us. We absolutely loved the shared delicious barbecue dinner and music evening with the neighbors, friends of the house and the staff. It was very special and cultural immersive experience - and the fish was the best we had on our trip.
Breakfast was simple but good. We also enjoyed the delicious dinner on the second day. Unless you are on your own scooter or car, then bring snacks, fruits, juices and additional food as supply options in the area are very limited. Unfortunately we were unlucky with the weather and had some wind which made it difficult to sleep at night.
- Tommy (10/5): Great stay in a unique house in a picture perfect setting - The house and its surroundings ware absolutely magnificent. Great bed, and a view to die for. Jungle vibes all around. Very clean, very comfortable and spaceous. The swiming pool is picture perfect, albeit not very big.
Great knowledgeable host who is very friendly and helpful. You can have excellent freshly cooked breakfast and dinner in the house, prepared by wonderful Femi.
We had an amzing time and couldn't stop taking pictures and video's of the house and the view :-) Too bad we stayed only 2 nights. It is not in Labuan Bajo city, but private transport is super cheap and easily arranged by the host if you want.
- Nadine (10/5): A Hidden Gem for the Soulful Traveler ✨ - Bukit Cottage isn’t just a place to stay. It’s a dream lovingly built by Laurent, a host with a heart as warm as the Flores sun. This is where nature speaks, where time slows down, and where the true spirit of Flores gently wraps around you.
If you’re looking for flawless beach selfies and a life free of bugs, this might not be your vibe. But if your heart beats faster for raw beauty, jungle whispers, starry skies, and deep cultural connection Bukit Cottage is your place to be. 🌿
Laurent’s place is pure magic. You’ll find yourself talking with locals, bathing in forest light, and remembering what it feels like to feel. Don’t make the rookie mistake of only staying one night, this place needs time. We suggest you to stay at least 1 week.
Come with curiosity. Come with love. Come with respect for the earth, and you’ll be rewarded tenfold. 🌺
Bali is for the tourists.
Bukit Cottage is for the soul.
- Steeve (10/5): Exceptional - Fantastic house, in a beautiful location! the view and sunset are stunning! Beautiful food as well! It's a little gem nested in the uphill of Labuan Bajo!
The house is truly incredible and so peaceful!
Laurent is a lovely host, with really good knowledge of the local customs!
Just give it a try!
- Luke (10/5): An enlightening stay ❤️ - I had the most wonderful time! Bukit Cottage is a true slice of heaven, the perfect blend of nature and tranquility. I’ll be sure to return soon! Sending my love.
- Cécile (10/5): Wonderful stay - Beautiful Villa and Garden, very clean and lovely owner nothing
- Baylis (7/5): Good -
- Mette (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing location in the middle of the jungle. Quiet, peacefull and beautifull.
We highly recommend this villa. You feel at one with nature.
Laurent is a great host, and Lydia is so sweet and makes amazing breakfast.
- Milan (9/5): Unforgettable stay in the jungle - Bukit Cottage Pak Ansel is a little gem in the lush jungle of Flores island. The cottage is beautiful, equipped with 2 bedrooms (one larger and more impressive upstairs fully open and one smaller downstairs closed with a small terrace), 2 showers (one closed upstairs and one open downstairs) and 2 toilets. Perfect for 2 couples or a family.
Fem, the local staff, made us excellent breakfasts (incl. - usually pancakes with local honey) and lunches (excl. - 60K pp at time of review - we had a nasi goreng and a delicious coconut chicken soup with rice).
Dinners can be prepared by the host, Laurent, (120Kpp at time of review) with simple local ingredients.
Laurent is a very interesting character with a life story he will eagerly share at the dinner table if you wish for him to join you. While he sleeps in a small dependence/bungalow next door, he will happily share his experience and adventures with you.
Breakfast is prepared for 8:30am but the sun rises at 6am so sleeping in might be difficult, but you might appreciate a nap time in the open space/living room in the first floor with a hammock, or by the pool (despite the green-ish color, it smelled heavily of chlorine & clean, and we enjoyed it thoroughly with a beer at sunset time or middle of the day). Our stay was excellent, but in order to manage expectations we'll highlight a few points which didn't particularly bother us but might better orientate the traveller wishing to book:
- At time of review, the showers did not have warm water. Again you're in the jungle a little bit in the middle of nowhere and it's over 25 degrees celsius so a little bit of rusticity is part of the package.
- You won't be able to get around without a driver, and you won't have network so it requires a bit of planning ahead if you want to move around and do activities - Laurent can help you plan over dinner.
- It remains the host's house, he comes and goes as he pleases and employs local staff - we were happy to share dinners and drinks but if you're looking for total privacy and intimacy, it might need to be agreed upon and discussed ahead of time.
- Getting there with a scooter is impossible as the road is precarious, and at time of review, there was no wifi nor network at the property: ideal for a digital detox but not suitable for digital nomads and teleworkers.
- It is quite isolated, so your food options will either be dinner at the property with Laurent, or a delicious (!) dinner at the lodge next door with local Flores food at 250K pp. (book at least a day in advance since the piece de maitre of the dinner is a chicken smoked for over 5 hours).
- Ulrike (7/5): Great experience, good food and potential for far more convenience. You can do wonderful excursions from the place. - Great location, ambitious owner You live in the forest, some things need to be improved to have guests happy- internet, power supply, pool facilities
- Bastien (10/5): We had a wonderful stay at Bukit Cottage. Superb scenery, delightful staff, and amazing meals. -
- Marielle (9/5): Superb - Bukit cottage was such a nice surprise! We not only got a beautiful villa with breathtaking views, we also got a hospitable host, singing staff, delicious food and cute little kittens with our booking. The dirt road to the villa was a bit hard on our motorbikes. But the owner told us it would be the next thing to fix.
