Guest Reviews
Ontbijt was goed verzorgd. Wel ventilatoren, geen airco.
- Ruud (9/5): Aanrader. Kleine persoonlijke accommodatie. - Locatie Wij hadden kamer JWA met Balkon. Prachtig uitzicht. Let op opstapjes in de kamer. Vooral in de nacht.
- Majja (10/5): - Beautiful location with a wonderful view of the green valley. The bed in the beautiful room is comfortable and there is a lot of space for all your things. Community breakfast and dinner every day if you are into that, we enjoyed it a lot and the food was super. One of the best places I’ve visited in the world. Nothing not to like!
- Jane (10/5): Lovely people, amazing location - Stunning location in the middle of the rainforest. The views are incredible and the rooms are so lovely - comfortable, cool and beautifully decorated. The staff are so warm and friendly, and the food is just delicious. Cannot recommend this place highly enough.
- ANNE LAURE (8/5): Séjour très agréable mais cher. - Le site est exceptionnel. Très bien décoré. Le prix est cher.
- Vivica (9/5): - You can see that the cottage has been made with a lot of love and it feels very homey. We loved the food and the great personnel, as well as the common area. They also had great recommendations for activities in the area and organized a great guide for the Boiling Lake Tour for us.
Location is also perfect, super close to key activities near Roseau (eg Trafalgar Falls and Titou Gorge) Bed was unfortunately uncomfortable (hard mattress as often in that region and huge pillows)
Also, as the Cottage is next to a street with two curves, there is a lot of honking ongoing, unfortunately also very early in the morning.
- Beth (10/5): The setting, design, hospitality and location were all perfect! a truly relaxing gem of a place!!!! - We LOVED everything about cocoa cottage! Exceptional staff and meals! It really rooted us in Dominica culture!!! We will come back!!! Not one thing!
- Lorraine (9/5): Loved it - The room and property were appealing. The patio deck overlooking the value was beautiful. Meals were great and plentiful for breakfast and supper, open air, communal dining.
Precies zoals we hadden gehoopt.
- John (7/5): - Great location to hiking and surrounding trails/getting into town
- Thomas (9/5): - Schöne, ruhige Lage. Sehr freundliches Personal und tolles Essen
- DANIEL (7/5): -
- Thomas (9/5): Comfort in the Rainforest - I enjoyed the sounds of the rainforest while relaxing on my terrace swing... listening to the rain bounce on the metal roof at night... the gourmet dinners and delicious breakfasts...and especially the friendly and helpful staff. The shower was erratic.. sometimes warm and okay, other times not.
- Nicole (9/5): We had a nice stay at the Cocoa Cottage! We really liked the food and communal atmosphere at breakfasy and dinner time. - The jungle setting and ambiance, the food and the staff.
- Susanne (9/5): -
- Michal (9/5): -
- Amelia (9/5): - Perfect base for our week-long stay on Dominica! Shared their smallest room (Kako) with my sister and it was cozy but comfortable given that we were spending all daylight hours out exploring the island. Excellent location, delicious breakfast/dinners and welcoming staff. Would 100% stay here again! Pillows weren't my favorite...
- Thomas (9/5): - Die Besitzer waren sehr nett, das Zimmer sehr schön
- Vladimir (10/5): Great time at Cocoa Cottages - From the moment we arrived at Cocoa Cottage until our departure, we truly felt at home. The warm atmosphere, delicious breakfasts and dinners made our stay especially pleasant. When we went hiking, they prepared very tasty sandwiches for us.
The cottage is located in a very convenient area, close to the main hiking trails and waterfalls, and also very near many restaurants. The small, cozy room with picturesque views from the windows and the veranda with a hammock were especially enjoyable and much appreciated after our hikes. For someone who likes shampoo and conditioner better to bring them with you
- Viktoria (10/5): Lovely place, lovely staff, truly beautiful, easy to get to most places of interest including hiking - It is a beautiful place with lots of ambience. The staff was extraordinary, very very friendly and great to chat with. The location is very convenient for hiking and getting to the sulfur springs also not far from Rouseau. We liked it all.
Because there were not many options around to get something to eat it would be great if it was allowed to cook simple meals in the kitchen.
- Katie (9/5): We had a wonderful time- great staff, nice facilities, great food and beautiful views. - It was well-maintained and cared for.
- Tanguy (9/5): -
- Candi (10/5): The treehouse feels like a luxurious rainforest glamping experience. - The location is convenient to many attractions. We really enjoyed the pizza night. The space is very roomy and we were able to cook simple meals for ourselves. The place is clean, beautifully decorated and surrounded by the sites and sounds of the rainforest. There are quite a few stairs leading to the treehouse. We didn't mind it but others might have difficulty with them. Living in an open air cottage is not for everyone but we loved it and bugs were not much of an issue except for my teen daughter who managed to be the only one of the four of us to get a few mosquito bites.
- Betsy (8/5): Very good - Very nice and helpful staff. location close to the places we wanted to see.
Having use of a refrigerator and kitchen supplies was great. Difficult Parking on street at sharp curve in road.
Steps down to bathroom and into room uneven and too high.
Would like to have some games that we could play at night in reception room.
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional - Outstanding in all regards! Highly recommend! Food on-site (breakfast, and especially dinner) was fantastic! Staff was wonderful!
- Don (10/5): Magical. Waking up to jungle noises. - Super location in the jungle and access to a number of main attractions. Meals in a community environment so meet other guests. Freshly cooked meals. CAR is essential. No AC and little privacy between bedroom and bathroom.
- Jones (10/5): An idyllic property that has given us unforgettable memories. Couldn’t rate highly enough. Wonderful! - Magical location , wonderful property with stunning insight into rainforest life. Lovely home-made dinners and breakfasts available. Great way to meet people. Unbeatable. Nothing
- Patrick (9/5): Superb -
- Rie (8/5): It was a lovely treehouse in a beautiful tropical rainforest. - Pros: Amazing atmosphere, felt like staying inside of a botanical garden. The sounds of rain shower and creatures added coziness. The dinners were hearty and delicious. Staffs were nice and accommodating.
Cons: We brought our own just in case so it’s OK but there was no shampoo. Little more privacy on bathroom would be nice.
- Denisa (9/5): Wonderful stay in nature - The location is great - close to the waterfalls and other activities. Our cottage was nice, nest in lush nature, was quit and tranqui place, ideal for relax and chill. We especially loved a hammock before cottage. You have shared kitchen and fridge. Staff is also nice. We would stay again, we had a wonderful time here. Maybe the washing machine for guests in property would be nice, if you do hiking, you definitely need it in Dominica :) Also some tea&coffee kettle in the room would be useful.
- Iliyan (9/5): Superb - It's a great place if you want to stay in a typical cottage surrounded by the lovely nature of Dominica. The hosts and the employees are super kind and helpful. It was definitely good experience to be in a place like this and I would visit it again. It is situated on a main road so it is easily accessible by car. There was no door of the bathroom which was a bit strange and uncomfortable.
- Nancy (9/5): Superb -
- Hercillia (10/5): Second time and will be back - Everything Na
- Szymon (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent hospitality!
- Kathrin (10/5): A magical place that feels like home - Cocoa Cottage is in every way what you hope for when traveling: a magical place in nature with stunning surroundings and views, cozy beautifully decorated rooms with a personal touch, super friendly employees and hosts that help you with everything you need and great food (I especially loved the breakfast which was such a fantastic way to start a day). I traveled to many places but this will always have a special place in my heart: a magical place that feels like a second home. And we met so many interesting and great other guests there that felt the same way. Thank you so much for everything - I can't wait to come back as I missed this place immediately already after leaving. Nothing.
- Nathan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jordan (10/5): Cocoa is a great value: excellent location, very good breakfast and helpful staff! - Cocoa Cottage is situated in the rainforest, yet just a few minutes from Roseau. The breakfast is great and the staff is kind and helpful.
- Jennifer (10/5): Exceptional - Cocoa Cottage was perfect for us. We were in the “Fou Fou” room with open air slats. Good ventilation. We loved hearing the sounds of the rain forest all night. Staff were the most polite and helpful we’ve ever encountered.
- Rhonda (7/5): Great location, great price, great staff, great dinners and pizza! - Did not have the breakfast but it looked and smelled great. The pizzas were delicious and the dinners I had were great. bug bites while sleeping.
- Markéta (10/5): Amazing place in the middle of the rainforest - Our stay in Cocoa cottage was just amazing. Lovely cottages in the middle of the rainforest, close to the Dominica's highlights, beautiful wiews from the terrace and very kind ownwers and also the staff. Before our comming we were a little bit affraid of the noises from the rainforest and from mosquitos, but there was no problem wit it and the noises from the rainforest we have just loved - it was so relaxing and in the touch with the nature. We also very appreciated the dinners - made by local cookers in the open kitchen and all the guests had the dinner together arround one big table. So you can meet a new interesting people from different places of the world, tolk to them and have a very interesting evenings with them. Also our two sons (12, 17) loved the stay in Cocoa cottage and enjoyed hollyday full of adventur in Dominica. I highly reccomad this place for those, who prefer nature, original and local stay to five stare hotels "without the soul"...
- Stephanie (10/5): Amazing experience! - Our stay was amazing! We were there for 4 nights, and we loved every part of it. The staff was wonderful. We had breakfast and dinner there almost every day, and we were so impressed. Everything was local and delicious. The property is conveniently located close to Titou Gorge and many amazing waterfalls. Highly recommend!
- Stefano (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rob (9/5): Superb -
- Ilya (8/5): We loved everything about the accommodation except for the price. - The grounds were beautiful, and the staff is absolutely amazing. Dinners are phenomenal, homemade style that varied each day. The cost of the accommodation overall is 2x the cost of what it should be for what it is, and the breakfast is outrageously overpriced for simple eggs, bread, and fruit.
- Mate (7/5): Unique accommodation with a lower than expected comfort level - Great concept in an amazing location where nature truly surrounds you 😍 – and in the case of the «villa» that's true in a literal sense because the whole place is one open-air treehouse. As a result, you get regular visits from local wildlife and you get to fall asleep to the sound of the jungle.
The location couldn't be better either (assuming you have a car), with several popular destinations (e.g. Trafalgar Falls, Boiling Lake hike) right around the corner. As amazing as this place is, as a group of two couples traveling together we had a number of issues with the treehouse that made our stay way less comfortable than expected 👇
First, while the unit technically has 3 beds, only 1 of those is a "proper" bed in what we might call a "bedroom" – the other two are a sofa-like bed right in the middle of the common area and a loft-style bed on the ceiling – none of which provide any privacy whatsoever to an adult couple. And second, the bathroom provides a level of comfort that is way below what we would expect for a unit in this price category: the sink only has a single tap with cold water and the shower only has a single tap with hot water set to a specific (in our case boiling hot) temperature that cannot be adjusted. Due to the nature of this accommodation we were of course willing to forego certain comforts (e.g. A/C), but there is simply no good reason why e.g. the bathroom couldn't be fitted with a mixer tap and a warm water tank for a markedly better comfort level.
That said, the staff was very receptive to our complaints and we were ultimately able to work out a solution with them that we were satisfied with.
- Karen (7/5): Very convenient for getting into Roseau and for hiking trails, beautiful views - We spent a week at Cocoa Cottage for an event in Dominica and although we are not hikers (and I didn’t really know what to expect) we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in nature, the views and silence was amazing. Having a car would have been ideal but we managed to get in and out of Roseau using local buses and taxis. The Team at Cocoa Cottage were awesome very welcoming and helpful, I’d like to say a huge thanks especially to Shaunisa, Marilyn and Dewayne for their help during our stay with getting around and tips on things do. My only suggestion for staying at Cocoa Cottage would be if they could provide a good insect repellent in the room to help manage the biting insects that are inevitable in that environment.
- Van (8/5): Great! - Relaxed in the middle of the rainforest.
Centrally located. Good atmosphere.
Nice people.
- Chris (8/5): Very good -
- Manoj (8/5): Very good -
- Anna (8/5): Very good -
- Ruben (10/5): Exceptional - Compliments for the architecture & craftsmanship, presented in the tree house. A fan, would be nice.
- Susan (8/5): Very good - Lovely location, brilliant staff, super family meals and home cooking
- Marissa (8/5): Very good -
- Sandra (9/5): exotic - Very good. We enjoyed being able to have dinner on site.
However breakfast time was to late for us.
We have use to leaving early for hiking in the morning.
- Mikael (10/5): Real gem in the jungle - Superb place in the middle of the jungle. Great hospitality and good food. The hosts are also very helpful.
- Stuart (9/5): Superb - Great location. Attentive and helpful staff and owners. We had breakfast and evening meal on site to taste real Dominica - very good. Bed was not very comfortable so we slept at the other end - much better. Room was quite small. Would be nice to have an outdoor seating area other than the veranda we had.
- Jacquelyn (9/5): Superb - Great location close to several hikes/waterfalls. Delicious food and nice rooms. The woman who made breakfast was the best. She was so nice and really made you feel at home. It wasn't the same experience at dinner, but she definitely made up for it! My only complaint is that the mosquito net around the bed was pretty thick and blocked the breeze from the fan/outside. We found ourselves deciding if we wanted to be hot or bitten by bugs each night.
- Paul (10/5): A wonderful experience - Excellent location. Sleeping with the sound of the forest, magical. Lovely breakfast whilst watching humming birds feeding.
Owners very sociable. Pizza night was a bit a of a let down. Handmade to order by a lovely Italian lady but took forever being made and cooked one at a time. The resulting pizza was disappointing.
- Martin (9/5): A friendly, comfortable garden oasis. - Owners were very friendly and helpful with tips on how to enjoy our time on the island. The facility had a common eating and lounge area which brought guests together for meals and gave us a chance to get to know each other and share travel tips. The property is surrounded by lush tropical vegetation and has lovely artistic elements everywhere you look. The resident cats were friendly and the meals (bfast and dinner) were simply, tasty and good value. The location is excellent for exploring the natural beauty of the south part of the island.
- X (9/5): Superb - It is an amazing location surrounded by nature and a fantastic getaway from the hectic city routine. The room was comfortable with unique design, and I had a pleasant stay. Above all, the staff are the heart and soul of this delightful guest house and made the experience as smooth and as memorable as possible, which I deeply appreciate. I would definitely recommend and would stay again 👌
- Sarah (8/5): Nice stay close to local Dominica activities and sites. Disappointed about noise / workers around Fou Fou room. - Really beautiful location amidst tropical jungle and little river. We were in the Fou Fou room. Great location near Roseau and near Trafalgar falls and Titou Gorge / Boiling Lake hike. Next door to Extreme Dominica (canyoning). The owners send you a welcoming guidebook with lots of info on things to do in the area, restaurants, guide numbers, rental car companies etc. Very helpful. The room itself is spacious and comfortable, good mosquito net, and good little terrace where you can enjoy and relax. We had dinner there one night and, although a bit pricey (25 USD per person), was very yummy and filling. The welcome was a bit “meh”, not very clear. There was no housekeeping during the 4 days we were there- bins not emptied or towels not changed- not that we necessarily needed new towels, but would have been nice to know. Also no one cleaning the room- the shower area accumulated lots of sand and this was not draining. However the main disappointment / frustration was the noise, from 7am onwards, cars are honking right outside the room, because the road is there and there is a huge curve (they are honking for safety to warn other cars they are turning)…. This woke us up every morning. Additionally to this, almost every morning we were there, workers were going past the property non stop with sand bags or cement or something, making lots of noise and talking. It would have been nice to be told in advance there were going to be some works done just next to the “private” room…
- Adam (10/5): Great place to meet people - Amazing location in the rainforest! Close to most thing you wanna do in the valley. Cosy cotteges, good breakfast and pizza (we didn't try the regular dinner) and as clean as it can be in a humid rainforest. The best thing however was just to meet all the people, both the staff and other travellers! All staff were amazing, very friendly and helpful, and it was great to meet other travellers. We didn't have a car because with our original plan there was no need, but due to heavy rain we had to reschedule some things. However, every breakfast or dinner we met somebody friendly who gave us a ride or let us tag along for the day. During the pizza evenings a lot of interesting non-residents came and ate as well. Both locals and island-hopping sailors. It is in the rainforest so there will be rain, and it will be humid. There was a fan in the room so it wasn't too bad to live in, just difficult to get stuff to dry. The Cottage also had a tin roof, which makes a lot of sound when it rains. It took a night to get accustomed to all the sounds but the it was just cosy. (Except the honking from the road)
- Ram (10/5): Dominica is an incredibly beautiful country and our time at Cocoa Cottage added a lot to the experience added - Sleeping in nature with the sounds of the rainforest and the stream that flows through it. Nothing
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Martin (9/5): Superb - Very good dinner and breakfast!
- Marine (10/5): Perfect location for a peacful stay - The meals were great! The location was amazing, it was quiet and peaceful with the sound of the stream. The staff was lovely and welcoming. Couldn't recomand more!!
- Simone (10/5): Exceptional -
- Oscar (10/5): Exceptional - Great views, food, cute kittens and great local juice!!
- Susanne (10/5): Nature - Cocoa Cottage is a treasure of accommocation. You are in the middle of nature and could just stay there without moving. I highly recommend staying at least 2 nights to enjoy the beauty and friendliness of the locals. The Fou Fou hut is very close to the street so that it was a bit noisy at night and one could smell the exhaust fumes.
- Petra (9/5): Superb -
- Shuna (10/5): Perfect - A beautiful oasis in the middle of the jungle. Comfortable, staff were amazing- friendly, helpful and fun! Mosies- so not a complaint against the property, just a fact of life in Dominica.
- Alain (7/5): agreable - excellent parking
- Joelle (10/5): Very good star - All is very very good The tree house
- Ségolène (9/5): Superb - The room was so nice, the view on the jungle, we were upgraded for free
It's a sustainable cottage
The surrounding is amazing
also the handmaid soap smells amazing Nothing
- Allison (10/5): Unique, personal, central, authentic - Rooms were beautiful and unique. Amazing location close to the city and to most outdoor sites. Meals were ABSOLUTELY worth it. Best food on the island. I was envious of the rooms with hammocks but honestly everything was pretty wonderful
- Denise (10/5): Exceptional -
- Martin (9/5): Superb - Wonderful location, perfect to explore most of dominicas wonders! had to pay 10usd to use the machine to make the laundery
- Balazs (10/5): Exceptional - We had a wonderful stay, within the heart of the nature.
- Gnaegi (10/5): Exceptional - hosts were helpful and kind. the young kittens made the ambiance even better. prices for beakfast and dinner were quite high but comparable to the city of Roseau.
- Susan (9/5): The beauty of Dominica shines through at Cocoa Cottages. - We loved the way Cocoa Cottages operates. They integrated natural elements and beautiful artwork into the rooms. Very whimsical. We also liked the communal dining and the staff was top notch. Met people from several different countries. Dining away from Cocoa Cottages at night is risky if you are unfamiliar with the roads. The food was delicious and fairly priced. I also loved the swinging bed on the patio overlooking the rainforest. So beautiful! Our particular room (Fou Fou) was closest to the road so we heard more car noise as compared to others. However, we loved our beautiful room as it felt very private.
- Darren (9/5): Unique place in a lush jungle setting with helpful proprietors - Wonderful location. Great balcony with swing. Friendly hosts with good recommendations on things to do. More toiletries are always appreciated (shampoo, facial tissues).
- Rhydian (8/5): Unique stay in Dominica - Unique Ecco style and position with friendly helpers and the communal dining was nice with great home cooked food The room we had was very small although others were much better. It is on the corner of road so our room in particular suffered from some road noise
