Guest Reviews
- Andreas (8/5): -
- Robin (8/5): Jan runs this small property very efficiently and was very keen to make our stay comfortable - The continental breakfast was very nice and Jan did her best to make it available at our convenience. There is ready access to several lovely local walks from Seaview.
The village pub is only a few minutes walk away for good quality evening meals
- Stephen (9/5): - Lovely host Jan and an excellent location.
- JOHN (9/5): Just right for me, appropriate for my stay. The hostess is intelligent, friendly and ideal. - Breakfast was made according to what I wished to have each day.
- Joanne (1/5): DANGEROUS - I do not know where the postive reviews come from on here .
This is a dangerous place to stay and we reported this to Booking.com as soon as we arrived.
The proprietor comes into your room when you are out and there is NO OPTION to look your door. This is a huge safety concern. Anything could be taken or placed in your room when you are away as this was the case in our experience .
DO NOT RISK THIS Safety concerns re not able to lock door and owner and other guests can just enter your private room
We left asap and did not risk this
We were lucky enough to secure a booking at a nearby hotel as the were outraged at the lack of security and potential risk to us
- C (9/5): -
- diane (10/5): - Our host was brilliant so communicative and helpful All good
- shirley (9/5): We really enjoyed our stay & will definitely visit tge area again - The host was very welcoming & made us feel at easr If you mislaid your keys you couldn't get out if the property.
- Linda (9/5): Homely place with a kind, thoughtful host - Homely place with a kind, thoughtful host. Comfortable room with a good amount of storage space for unpacking. Kettle etc provided for tea/coffee with fresh milk provided each day. The breakfast is continental with fresh berries and croissants, very nice. We had the King room with en-suite and while there is a window with a garden view it does not have a terrace as specified on booking.com (the host messaged us beforehand to tell us this and that she is trying to change it on booking.com). Parking is included and is at the village hall a few minutes walk up the road (parking permit provided) but you can unload on the road next to the property. Screen for shower over bath could perhaps be fixed in place otherwise have to be quite careful when showering, but not a major problem.
- Linda (9/5): Highly recommended for a peaceful relaxed holiday with easy access to beaches and places of interest - We liked it very much here. The house is cosy and full of interesting things. Our room was a good size with a super king bed which was very comfortable. Breakfast was Continental and plentiful. The location is in a quiet pretty village with an excellent restaurant at the Thurlestone Inn where the staff are lovely and friendly. Jan is an excellent host full of fascinating stories and extremely welcoming and warm. It’s a quiet restful place with easy access to all areas for visiting. Nothing really. Ask Jan about the easiest road out of the village.
- Caroline (10/5): Lovely B&B, great value, great location - recommend. - Jan is a wonderful host! The B&B is clean, comfortable bed, great en-suite and overall perfect for my stay. A lovely breakfast, great location close to Thurlestone Village centre, highly recommend. Good value. Nothing - everything was perfect 💕
- Bernadette (5/5): This property would score very low on 'Four In A Bed' ... unfortunately, we cannot recommend. - Great location. Beautiful beaches. Great walks. Quiet. Lovely hotel nearby where we ate & drank several times. Will defiantly visit area again, and stay elsewhere. Advertised as having a 'terrace' which is not true, there is a window only. Disappointing breakfast. Not even continental, as just cereal, toast / croissant & some fruit. Cleanliness concerns re kitchen / service of food. Half pot of yoghurt served without lid. Butter uncovered. Pots of jam, etc. half used ? how long opened. Breakfast served in hosts lounge area, which has an amazing sea view, but is not much use to visitors as is the hosts private room. We declined further breakfasts. When requested, milk was left in room in (not very clean) cool bag - not very appropriate in such hot weather. Unable to lock door when leaving room (very strange). Towels and bedding very tired looking. Only enough hot water to fill approx. third of bath before it ran out. Toilet and bathroom not clean - in fact whole room and en-suite in need of a VERY deep clean.
- Celia (7/5): Lovely village - Good location. Beautiful countryside. Friendly, helpful host. Unfortunately had to cut stay short. Booking.Com's description was not accurate. Confirmation stated room with terrace. No terrace available. Strict rules re dogs not stated. Continental breakfast.
- Vicki (8/5): A cosy, comfortable B&B perfectly located for coastal walks and beaches - A cosy, comfortable B&B. The ensuite room had everything we needed for a relaxing weekend. Jan is a welcoming, knowledgeable, helpful, lovely host. Guest parking is a very short walk away. The B&B is perfectly located for coastal walks and beaches, with nice pubs serving good food nearby.
- Adrienne (10/5): Comfortable stay with a very friendly host. - The location was beautiful, our host was very friendly and helpful giving us plenty of good advice. There are beautiful beaches nearby. A very romantic walk to Bantham Beach was our favourite. Generally, it is a perfect location for various walks and excursions in beautiful Devon. None
- Annabel (9/5): We'd definitely like to stay in Seaview House during our future visits to the Thurlestone area. - The breakfasts were excellent, including catering for special dietary requirements for one of us. The owner was particularly helpful. We visited the beaches at Thurlestone and Bantham Bay - both excellent for grandchildren. We also went to Longtimber Woods in Ivybridge - ancient, semi-natural woodland located alongside the River Erme, opportunities for wildswimming and paddling.
- Jenni (8/5): Lovely , quirky, well appointed establishment with a delightful hostess. - We loved the hostess, she was welcoming and caring without being invasive!
The location suited us well, we were able to walk to where our friends lived.
The breakfast was as requested and the view from upstairs was lovely, however not everybody would be able to negotiate the stairs up.
The room was clean, comfortable and homely. The bed comfortable, pillows perfect for us ; not too soft nor hard. Bedside tables and lights were provided.
There was an abundance of delightful quirky artefacts displayed, wonderful for conversation and curious minds.!
Tea and coffee making facilities were available with fresh milk provided daily.
The television was a good size although we weren’t in to view!
There were easy chairs available.
Plenty of electric points for appliances and device charging.
The bathroom was clean , offered everything required, nice hot shower and plenty of towels.
Car parking at the Village Hall just up the road. Whilst it didn't present us with an issue, our bathroom was down the corridor. There was little chance of bumping into anyone enroute.
- Julie (8/5): Very good - Jan was a fantastic host. So friendly and helpful.
Loved the breakfast room with sea views. Parking ok. but on the picture it looks like you can park by the house .
Lovely room but needed a little tlc. Especially in the bathroom.
- Michaela (8/5): Very good -
- Sally (10/5): Gorgeous seaside stay - Great views from breakfast area
Lovely room and bath room with bath
Close to stunning walks
Very helpful host Jan Weather was terrible but it
Was winter
- Sharon (10/5): Warm and Welcoming - The welcome feel from first contact with Jan, the feeling as you entered the property and the fabulous view of the bay from the breakfast room. Jan is wonderful. She has a wide knowledge of the area, the perfect host, making us feel very much at home, fabulous breakfasts, cooked just how we liked them. So clean and tidy with all our needs catered for. Gascoigne was a delight to meet and fuss, too. We will definitely go back. Coming home, it felt so warming we wished we had more time to have stayed longer.
- Helen (9/5): Superb - We loved the location of Seaview in the village of Thurlestone near to the coastal path. The house is homely, our room was comfortable and Jan a considerate and friendly host. Nothing was too much trouble. Breakfasts were delicious. We liked everything.
- Sam (10/5): Great! Would recommend - Lovely, friendly host and very cute dog! Beautiful location. Room was cosy and comfortable. Lots of places to see in walking distance. The only thing I would say was my husband is vegetarian and there wasn’t a specific veggie breakfast option for him but the cooked breakfast was lovely.
- Huw (8/5): Very good - Excellent breakfast Nothing
- Allison (10/5): Lovely comfortable stay with a lovely helpful hostess. 😊 - Our dog was allowed to stay 🥰
Lovely bedroom and en-suite (garden room). King size bed was really comfortable, there were tea and coffee making facilities and a tv with freeview channels. You could come and go as you liked because you get your own front door key. Our hostess, Jan, cooked our breakfasts, which were lovely ☺️ Nothing!
- Jenni (10/5): Seaview House was such a welcome haven and provided the perfect location for incredible walks around the Devon Coast. - Our garden room was fabulously comfortable, beautifully presented, quiet and had everything we needed. Our host Jan was a highlight. Totally accommodating, incredibly interesting, a great tour guide, and provided the best breakfast we have had on our trip so far. Nothing
- Anne (10/5): Perfect place to stay with our dog - Lovely house, very tasteful and interesting decor. Perfect host and great attention to detail, nothing was too much trouble for Jan, and Gaston was kind enough to share his treats with Dottie! Nothing
- Polonca (9/5): Lovely dog friendly B&B - Great and very calm location, offering lovely walks around the beaches. Burgh Island is very close. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. I loved the decoration. The host is lovely and very helpful; we had nice chats at breakfast and as well some laughs. The resident springer spaniel Gaston was great fun, too. It all gave our 3 nights stay a lovely family atmosphere. My dog loved it so much she almost refused to leave :-) Parking is not available in front of the house, but you can park for free at the village hall a couple of minutes away.
- Christopher (9/5): Just a lovely place to stay and view from the breakfast room shown in the photos - Lovely cooked breakfast
- Andy (8/5): Nice B&B in a nice village. - Location in Thurlestone was great and lovely and quiet. No parking, but Jan has arrangements in place to park off road in the local Parish hall car park about 4mons away.
- William (8/5): Very friendly and relaxed - Enjoyable with the personal touch.
- Joanna (8/5): Very good -
- Keith (9/5): Great place. Can recommend. - Myself and my wife stayed at Jan‘s place for 5 nights in July. The location is quiet and our room was spacious and very comfortable. Jan was a great host giving us plenty of tips for restaurants and places to visit. Parking, although not possible outside the house, is not a problem as there is a free community car park very close. It‘s a great base for both coastal walks and visiting towns such as Dartmouth, Salcombe, Totnes, etc. Can recommend.
- Nichole (9/5): A delightful, super comfy B&B in a stunning Devon location. - Super location in a beautiful little village. Lovely traditional B&B vibe. Very comfortable and homely with everything you need - a lovely lounge area to relax and very comfy bed in the room. Nice touches like being able to make tea in the room with fresh milk. Jan is a delightful host, so friendly and helpful. It's a beautiful area, you can walk to various beaches and there are many countryside walks to enjoy. Good dinning locally in the village as well. Highly recommend! Nothing, it was perfect
- Trudy (9/5): Superb - Lovely house, beautiful village and in a superb location for coastal walking and beaches. Our host Jan was excellent, nothing was too much trouble for her. Great conversations with her over a lovely breakfast. One of the comfiest beds we’ve had as well. Thanks Jan, looking forward to staying with you again 😊
- Annabel (9/5): We’d come back and would recommend it to our friends. - Excellent breakfast in room with very interesting artwork related to travel experience of owner.
As inhabitants of a pretty Cotswold village, we enjoyed comparing experiences of changes in our our village and Thurlestone. Nothing
- Nigel (8/5): Very good - The warm welcome from Jan, our host and her willingness to make our holiday special.
A lovely house and in a good location.
- Michael (9/5): Superb -
- Klara (3/5): Too expensive compared to conditions - Nice area Non hygiene kitchen - food safety concerns
Host goes to your room while out. Doesn't respect personal privacy. There is no lock on the room door
There isn't private parking at accommodation.
- Kate (10/5): Great location, beautiful views, wonderful host. - Easy to walk to the beach. Good location for driving to local popular towns and beaches. Beautiful view from the breakfast room of the village and sea.
Jan is so welcoming and friendly. She gave us great advice on where to visit a local market and a coastal drive that was just perfect. Jan is awesome! We will be recommending to family and friends. Thank you Jan! :) N/A
- Marczinka (10/5): We had a lovely stay, Jan is an amazing host! - Brilliant location. Lovely host
- Gen (5/5): Great location, good price, offering could be improved - The B&B is in a great location, a short walk from the beaches, coast path and pubs.
It was a good price.
Jan was a lovely person and very easy to chat to. It would benefit from some investment in new sheets, towels and upgrading some fittings, plus greater attention to detail.
The fire alarm went off in the middle of the night (had been playing up in the day), the alarms are not linked so only the guests were woken and were left to turn off the alarm. I struggled to go back to sleep. The batteries should have been removed from defective devises to avoid this perhaps.
The bed was hard and the metal frame squeaked a lot when you changed position. We didn’t find it comfortable, and left very tired. Upgrading the mattress and frame would be a good idea.
- Chris (9/5): Superb -
- Gaye (10/5): Very comfortable - Delightful breakfast and beautiful location Nothing
- Butts1 (8/5): Excellent - Great breakfast. Very good host - Friendly, Informative & Helpful. Price good Nothing.

- Clare (10/5): Jan is a very charming hostess who goes out of her way to make your stay enjoyable. We will be back - Jan is very welcoming as was our room with its pretty garden view and comfy bed. Extensive choice for breakfast, all nicely cooked and presented. Excellent location as walks from the door step both coastal and inland. It is just a short walk to the Village Inn where we had a good evening meal. The only thing that would have improved our stay would have been better weather!
- Paul (7/5): Great Stay but disappointing breakfast - The house is very nice in a good location and the room was adequate for our needs
The view out of the upstairs window is fantastic.
Jean is a lovely friendly lady who is trying to make peoples stays as best as possible. The breakfast was not up to expectations - the booking states full english however we didn't get this which was disappointing, however we had cereal, toast and scrambled egg which partly made up for it.
Its just annoying when you expect something and its not provided.
- Berenice (8/5): pleasant - situation, lovely + resourceful landlady and amazing view from the living room during breakfast no parking - however you can at the village hall, few meters up the street.
- Trudie (7/5): Good -
