Guest Reviews
- Mike (10/5): Relaxing and peaceful retreat - So easy to get the keys on arrival, lockbox code sent to my secure email well before arrival. Hosts even messaged us later that day to ensure we were settled in. House and gardens absolutely superb, garden completely fenced in so dogs cannot get out to the surrounding fields. A small welcome gift bag was provided with some very tasty Northumbrian treats as well. Cottage is so comfortable, warm, cozy and very well furnished and laid-out. Great experience, would definitely stay here again. Nothing to dislike, all good.

- fiona (10/5): - Luxurious cottage in a quiet beautiful location, fully equipped and with lovely walks nearby. Would definitely stay there again.
- Davies (10/5): - Beautiful setting, very comfortable cottage.
- Emma (10/5): Absolutely beautiful. Will definitely be booking again - An absolutely stunning property in the most beautiful setting I honestly couldn’t say there was anything to dislike
- Steven (9/5): always relaxing this time met the farmer and the dogs stopped and talked - nawifi wifi
- Kirsty (10/5): Cosy, relaxing and welcoming - We had a wonderful stay at Charlton Gate. The personal touch of the gift bag on arrival and the hosts reaching out for any questions or queries was very useful. The location was fantastic and the home felt welcoming and cosy on arrival. Great for pet friendly stays. We were really able to switch off here.
Check in was simple and strait forward and the website link with all of the useful information was brilliant both before arrival and whilst we were there. Thank you for a lovely stay!
We only wish we could have stayed longer!
- Marcus (9/5): Our very own mini Skyfall - Beautiful, remote cottage, well equipped, great views. It’s not really a dislike. The property when it was converted from an outbuilding was furnished and finished to a very high standard- but that was probably in the 90s. I like it, others might find it too old fashioned. There’s some wear and tear that could do with seeing to but it’s cosmetic on the whole.
- Richard (10/5): A wow house. Must return. - Wonderful. Big house. Cosy warm. Huge bath. Super comfy bed. We loved it
- Alan (10/5): Lovely property which allows you to truly getaway from the bustling world of city life. - Gorgeous, quiet, isolated property that’s not too far away from Bellingham.
- Sharples (9/5): Very relaxing - cosy cottage - lovely 360 views / our second visit / wished we’d stayed longer - Location fabulous - quiet but not too far from village. Cody cottage - very comfortable beds - lovely log fire and nice welcome bag with some extras Could have done with a couple more hand towels- we had 3 bath towels (3) stayed - only 2 hand towels- something very minor as large towels good quality . TV no bbc channels but we weren’t too bothered. A heads up - need parking disc for lots of local parking in Northumberland as otherwise quite tricky !
- Sharples (10/5): Lovely break - would definitely recommend and would love to have stayed longer - Wonderful location- secluded but not too far off main road and only 2 miles from nearest village . Cottage cosy - bed comfortable- clean and well equipped. Complementary bag of treats - lovely touch . Good communication from owners.
- Haley (10/5): A beautiful property in rural Northumberland with sheep for neighbours. - Clear instructions with a follow up email and link to details via text.
- Neil (10/5): Great property and owners have great communication with you . - The property is situated in a very secluded area and on a clear night the sky is amazing. Very close to Kielder forest and Hadrians wall for days out walking also Bellingham which is 10 mins by car has great choice of pubs restaurants and cafes plus a very handy Coop store . Really enjoyed our stay . If I was being very picky I’d say furniture is a bit tired but not uncomfortable.
- Helen (10/5): - Beautiful location, the cottage and garden was perfect for our needs and very dog friendly. The bath was the biggest ever seen and so luxurious, great after a long hike. The shower in the other bathroom was also nice and powerful with plenty of hot water. Lovely the daily visit from all the pheasants in the garden! The single track road took a bit of getting used to and was busier than expected. Local farm vehicles drove really fast!
- Aylaia Georgia (10/5): Wonderful cottage and peaceful location. - Peaceful location and lovely cottage N/a
- Zuhal (10/5): -
- Mark (10/5): Excellent property, had everything to relax, cook/eat, sleep repeat! Log fire made it cozy :) - Location was excellent, away from the road on a private track to a farm surrounded by sheep lazily grazing!
- Neil (9/5): Great place to stay, we really enjoyed our couple of nights here. - Lovely location, very nicely decorated properly and clean. Great facilities, nice shower and comfortable beds. Couch was a bit low. Would be nice to have a hot tub to look up at the stars on a clear night.
- Matt (9/5): Can highly recommend - Set in beautiful scenery, the cottage is warm and spacious . Nice little welcome pack. Village shop just under 2 miles away, handy. Bed super comfy, and the heating on upon arrival was a nice touch, cos it was cold February visit. Garden will be beautiful in the summer Funny smell on entrance, in the hallway…bit off-putting. Probably a drain.
- Jane (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful, cosy, comfortable cottage fully equipped to a very high standard. The cottage feels like it's a million miles from everywhere and is only 10 minutes walk from a bar/restaurant. Great house in a great location. 25 minutes from Kielder Castle. We could have stayed a lot longer. It felt more like home than a house. Nothing comes to mind
- Danielle (10/5): Exceptional - The location is perfect! Beautiful spot. The place had everything you could need for your stay. Very welcoming and great break away!
- Shelagh (9/5): Perfect location - well positioned for nature, walks, the Border towns and Northumberland coast. - The location was perfect in the middle of the dark sky area and near to Kielder and the observatory. Directions to the property were easy to follow. The cottage was clean, well equipped and warm and the beds were very comfortable. We enjoyed our time there and would stay again. We managed one night of star gazing (the rain and cloudy skies cleared around midnight on our final night there) and it was spectacular. Thoroughly recommend, even in the middle of winter - the cottage is very cosey.
Bellingham, the nearest town, is ten minutes away and has several pubs/restaurants, a Chinese takeaway, a co-op and a few local stores. Would recommend the homemade pies from the butchers. Just a slight criticism - the tv did not have access to BBC or ITV channels. Not a big deal, but the weather in the evenings turned wet and cold and we stayed in most nights, it would have been nice to be able to watch some of the programmes we follow. The internet did drop out, usually when it rained, so we did have difficulty watching any streaming channels.
- Isabelle (10/5): Exceptional -
- Steven (9/5): relaxing quiet wonderful location good hosts -
- Zuhal (10/5): Exceptional -
- Eleanor (9/5): Superb -
- Mark (10/5): Perfect short break near Kielder - Beautiful location, well appointed, extremely clean and comfortable with great communication from the hosts.
- Steven (10/5): will return - The approach to cottage is narrow but we had know issues .The local pub was full but we used the local campsite resturant the boe rigg which was a find the food was excellent staff 10/10
- Zuhal (10/5): Exceptional -
- Cedric (10/5): Lovely - Idyllic cottage in a quiet and beautiful location. Just what we wanted. Thank you
- Melissa (9/5): Perfect location for Rest and Relaxation, nothing around but sheep. Idyllic. - Beautiful location, quiet and cosy. Nothing
- Gareth (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice dark skies location, everything you could need provided in the cottage Offset location of TV in an alcove, together with position of chairs and sofa made it difficult to comfortably watch television, even with just two of us.
- Gillian (10/5): Brilliant Location.Beautiful area. Fabulous cottage. Will definately be back. - Location was terrific. Very rural but just a 10-15 minute walk to a campsite that had a lovely bar. The accomodation was decorated to a very high standard and it came with lots of extras like wood for the log burner and fire lighters. there was salt and pepper and they left you coffee and a little little welcome bag. Literally couldnt fault the place at all. The garden was lovely to sit out and its all enclosed except for the car entrance is over a cattle grid which my dog leapt over in one bound. But she came straight back over she thought it was fun! great walks and very close to bellingham which has lovely shops and a few pubs and some great walks. The only thing that was a little negative was our friends thought their bed was a bit hard but we found ours perfect so think thats just a matter of personal taste. The main thing I didnt like was that I couldnt stay longer:)
- Zuhal (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stephen (10/5): Exceptional - The location was perfect, an idyllic cottage surrounded by beautiful countryside. The garden was ideal for our dog to run around and enjoy.
- Victoria (9/5): Beautiful cottage - Loved this cottage, situated in an isolated very peaceful setting. Amazing views, Cosy warm and comfortable felt at home as soon as we arrived. Loved the log fire (plenty of logs provided) plus more outside. Massive bath tub and water pressure in shower is good, plus plenty of storage space. I felt like everything was thought of, and the gift bag with some little treats inside on arrival was a nice touch.
We would come back here we loved it! Minor thing but would of liked some tea towels provided for drying cups etc when you didn’t want to use the dish washer.
- Richard (10/5): Great stay in a fabulous property ideally located for walks in the Kielder Forest and local National Trust sites such as - Location and facilities 5 * Nothing
- .daniel1 (9/5): Superb - Stunning and peaceful setting, especially in the snow. Great views from all windows. Warm and cosy with log burner and central heating and generous supply of logs. Comfy bed. Shower was great. Very well equipped. Good WiFi and smart TV with Netflix. Would certainly like to go back in future. Thanks. Sofas have seen better days and are probably well over due an upgrade but did not detract from our excellent stay.
Although garden is fenced and walled all around the entrance is a cattle grid which our dog would try and get over, so would be great if a gate could be added in future to make it more secure for bringing dogs.
- Annie (9/5): Superb - It was really pretty, comfortable, well equipped, warm, clean and in a lovely quiet location.
- Zuhal (10/5): Beautiful, homely and clean. - The property is located in a beautiful area away from main roads. It is fully equipped with everything you need and feels warm and homely. The views are amazing, wifi connection is great, the house is exceptionally clean and shops and amenities are close by in Bellingham. n/a
- Joanna (9/5): Superb -
- Lindsey (8/5): Very good -
- Philip (10/5): Great very nice place will come back - You don’t want for anything Could do with a bigger tv
- Lisa (7/5): Great place - Few slight issues - Garden was great for the dog, remote location which was nice and quiet. The host very kindly left a welcome pack of food, tea and coffee which was much appreciated. The beds were comfy and plenty of towels provided. Generally the property was well cleaned, the bedrooms, bathroom and kitchen were fine but the living area although looked clean didn't smell great. The sofa and chairs were definitely past their best, it didn't feel like there was any cushioning left and so was very uncomfortable sitting on them on an evening.
- Sonia (9/5): Relaxed and comfortable - The property was quiet and not too remote. The kitchen was well stocked for crockery etc.
Beds were very comfortable and we lived the deep bath. Lounge was warm and homely and the views were special. Nothing
