- Grace (10/5): Staying at Ardoran was a refined experience. Worth repeating. - Breakfast was divine and healthy! Bed linens were ironed. The bathroom was refreshing, and I enjoyed the easy access to hiking paths. Superior experience!
- william (10/5): A1 location fabulous service highly recommended - Real quality food and served with a smile
- Eileen (10/5): -
- Lorna (10/5): Excellent stay, staff were brilliant. - Clean, bedrooms, sitting room and sun room very cosy / homely. Lots of pictures, books, ornaments to comment on. Service was excellent, Richard looked after us all. We enjoyed the glass of wine between 5-6pm, as it enabled us to speak to other residents.
Cooked breakfast was best I’ve had. Nothing
- Simone (7/5): Good - Incredibly friendly host who made my stay as pleasurable as possible. Very delicious breakfast, really nice views and location and the host even allowed a little more extra time for check out due to my personal plans. Unfortunately the bed was very uncomfortable and I did not sleep well at all despite the peace on the island.
- Sean (10/5): Exceptional -
- Edward (10/5): A warm welcome in a beautiful home. - Richard gave us a very friendly welcome. Felt more like staying with family than a guest house. Lots of extras like assisted pickup at the pier cocktails in the sun room. Nothing
- Sharon (5/5): Good location - uncomfortable, LOUD room - Location for the trip was good no available transportation from the hotel (and cars ot allowed on the island - staff was not helpful or friedly
- Renata (10/5): Exceptional -
- Maureen (10/5): Delightful stay. - Beautiful accommodation on a magnificent island. No detail overlooked. Most comfortable bed of my entire holiday in Scotland. Breakfast lovely and unhurried. Fell asleep to the sound of the ocean. Heaven. Could find nothing to dislike. However all other accommodations will now seem sub-standard.
- Christina (10/5): A delightful stay in Iona - Beautiful location and beautifully appointed throughout. Very charming and amenable staff.
- Lydia (9/5): Stunning views, beautiful and comfortable stay with a wonderful host - Beautiful furnishings, clean and modern facilities. Beds were super comfy and water pressure in the shower was brilliant!

- Macdonald (10/5): Exceptional -
- Karen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alison (10/5): Magical- did not want to leave. - Richard was a very kind and fun host.Breakfast was so delicious and the house and bedrooms beautiful, spotless and very comfortable.
- Linda (8/5): Propeeet amazing, breakfast filling and delicious. - Very homey beautiful location and ease from the ferry. I don’t like that the person who lived in the property was always there, felt at times that we were an imposition. He needs to be scarce when not providing breakfast so that people feel more relaxed that it’s private.
- Sheila (10/5): Exceptional - Richard was an amazing host. Evening wine was lovely way to transition to dinner in town. Look forward to coming back!
- Garry (10/5): Having such a wonderful stay at Ardoran House I would highly recommend this B&B to anyone wishing to stay on Iona. - My wife and I stayed 2 nights at Ardoran House in September. We were met at the ferry by John who drove us to Ardoran House. The accommodation was both comfortable and well presented and rooms quite spacious. Location wise it is a short walk to 2 hotels which we dined at plus a Spar co-op. Breakfast was delicious.
Richard our host was such a professional who wanted to make our stay as comfortable as possible. We didn’t get the opportunity to have 6 o’clock drinks with him (as we like to eat dinner early) but we still got the opportunity to talk and find out about his interesting life and how he came to manage Ardoran House.
- Pat (10/5): Great place to stay - Super inviting sitting rooms where I could curl up on a comfy couch and work. Great breakfast. Wonderful location. Great host.
- Rosemary (10/5): Perfection ! - Richard is a fabulous host. The house is immaculate and I had a very warm welcome .
- Simon (10/5): Delightful Iona stay in a very comfortable and welcoming house. - Very friendly host with a delightful property and a wealth of local information and anecdotes. House was very comfortable with carefully co-ordinated decor. Lovely breakfast! We felt like we got a greater sense of the island by staying in a smaller establishment, and very much appreciated being met at the ferry.
- Susan (8/5): Very good -
- Dianne (10/5): Perfect from start to finish :) - Everything about this property is perfect, particularly so the warm, attentive and friendly host Richard who went above & beyond to ensure we had an enjoyable stay. I could sense the happy & positive energies in the house the moment I walked in! Spotlessly clean & spacious, the conservatory was a favourite to relax in and read the many books available, particularly while enjoying the complementary wine in the evening! The hot tub was a joy and the beds extremely comfortable before enjoying a delicious hearty breakfast in the morning. The location is spot on with stunning views over to Mull and easy walking distance to the pier, shops and restaurants. I was very sad to leave and will definitely return!
- Dorothy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ginny (10/5): Great time in Iona - Everything. Our host was lovely, friendly, and always checking to see if we needed anything.
Great breakfast, and we didn't want to leave.
Would absolutely go back and are planning a longer visit with other friends. Having to leave 😢
- Linda (8/5): Overall, we did enjoy our stay and, Richard, our host, was friendly and very accommodating. - Lovely property with good size twin room. Excellent hot and cold choices for breakfast. It would have been good on arrival to be shown all facilities e.g. sauna and private beach, only shown hot tub.
Pillows were very hard which didn’t make for a good night’s sleep and, the way out to the hot tub was via the lounge and conservatory where other guests can be sitting.
For price of our stay would have liked robes and slippers in bedroom without having to ask.
- G. (10/5): Iona is a world away and truly a restorative place to renew well-being. Ardoran adds to the serenity - The owner attended to every detail with a discerning eye to make the stay comfortable. My friends and I spent a lot of time in the sunroom when the rains came and enjoyed the setting for cozy conversations. Breakfasts were delicious, with fresh eggs, fruit, yogurt and good coffee and juice. This was not a problem for me, and I thrived on the many walks, but someone with mobility issues needs to be aware of the walk of 15 to 20 minutes to the two restaurants on the island. Those are the main places to have dinner. Double check about a little taxi service in case this is an issue. And as for getting to Ardoran House from the ferry, we had an easy, delightful pickup and quick drop off. Ardoran's bedrooms are upstairs. I say all of this because a decade ago I was injured whitewater rafting in Uganda, so I know what it's like in those first months to have mobility challenges.
- John (9/5): A lovely spot to stay on a beautiful island - It was a great location. The host Richard was extremely helpful and went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. He even offered us a complimentary glass of wine every evening, which we had in his beautiful conservatory.
The breakfast was delicious .
- Mary (10/5): The house was very convenient to the town. It was a short walk to restaurants, shops, and sights. - Breakfast was marvelous. Done to perfection. There was a good variety of food available. The location of the house to the venues I was interested in seeing was excellent. Richard was a gracious host and very accommodating. I could not have asked for better! I found nothing that needed improvement.
- Dorothy (10/5): Very comfortable, more like a 4 star hotelstar hotel! - Really clean and fresh. Great attention to detail. Helpful host.
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional - Richard is an incredible host. Will definately be staying again next time we visit Iona.
- Susan (10/5): Beautiful home in a beautiful place. - Breakfast was excellent. The rooms were thoughtfully appointed, clean and quiet. The gathering areas are beautiful and comfortable- we used the solarium daily.
- Brian (10/5): Richard & the Team, Thank you for such a wonderful stay. - Breakfast was delicious cooked by the amazing Katrina, Richard our host was just wonderful (he looks like Alan Rickman and has the same lovely dry sense of humour), Room was big, comfy with the Lounge Area soo beautiful. Nothing
- Dempster (9/5): Superb -
- Catherine (10/5): Beautiful homey feel. Wonderful helpful host. Delicious generous breakfast and optional convivial evening drinks - Beautiful peaceful and convivial home with views over the water Loved it
- Jean (10/5): I had an interesting, comfortable and very enjoyable stay at Ardoran House. - Breakfast had a great choice and also the opportunity to mix and match. The excellent food was complemented by the lovely china it was served on. The whole house was beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable and the service was caring and friendly. What was not to like???
- Christina (8/5): Very good -
- Dianne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Peter (10/5): Luxurious accommodation, with an exceptionally attentive host - Luxury indeed! Richard works hard to offer comfortable, spacious, friendly and immaculately clean accommodation. Coffee and teas are continually replenished in the room, with a wide range of perfectly cooked breakfast items as well as the excellent buffet options. The conservatory has lots of books on Iona to browse when it's raining - or when Richard offers a glass of wine in the evening! We were sorry to leave after 3 nights. Nothing.
- Thierry (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kendall (9/5): Loved our stay on Iona. Ardoran House is beautiful and we'd be happy to stay there again. - The property is really beautiful with gorgeous furnishings. Our room was a great size and really comfortable. 5.30pm happy hour in the lounge for guests. Cooked breakfast is made to order and was plentiful! Easy walk to the Nunnery, Abbey and beaches. Richard was a great host and made us feel very welcomed.
- Donald (10/5): Excellent - Lovely rooms. Great breakfast. Private sauna. Complimentary pick up and drop off to ferry. Friendly host.
- Elma (10/5): Simply the best - The whole experience was absolutely wonderful. The host was delightful and went above and beyond with our needs. When there was no electricity on the island, he cooked us the most beautiful meal with such grace and love. Honestly, he made the whole experience of staying there unforgettable. The price is a bit steep, and maybe they can have a look at that.
- Mccormack (10/5): Exceptional - Richard was kind and hospitable. Made us feel at home. Breakfast was tasty and well served. Nothing
- Maggie (10/5): Very welcoming, spotless accommodation, wonderful breakfast. - Excellent 5 star It was wonderful.
- Marion (9/5): We all had a good stay at Ardoran House and would return. - Fabulous breakfast. Great location, nice to have a glass of wine for happy hour. Lovely to have the luggage transported. Our only comment would be that the garden could do with some work.
- Valérie (10/5): Quite, relaxing and friendly stay. - Great place for a relaxing and remote stay. Warm welcome from Richard and the staff. We were happily surprised to have someone picking us up from the ferry while the rain was pouring. Accommodation is really friendly and clean. We enjoyed a lot our stay. Also Richard was nice enough to prepare us a little take away breakfast while we had to leave at 6:30 (outside of the breakfast hour). Strongly recommend this place. Nothing
- Jane (8/5): Very good -
- Carolyn (10/5): Perfect stay in idyllic location - Richard is the perfect host, attentive, humorous, thoughtful and helpful. Breakfast was great, quality ingredients cooked very well and pre dinner wine an appreciated touch. Perfect location, guest lounge, conservatory, our bedroom overlooking the sea. Very well appointed House but one in which you feel comfortable. Iona is beautiful and Ardoran House the perfect base from which to explore it. We would love to return! There is absolutely nothing to dislike, aside from leaving! We found the stay a little on the pricey side, but such a great experience it is actually decent value for money.
- Dermot (10/5): It couldn’t have been better & Richard couldn’t have been friendlier! - Breakfast is excellent! Location perfect! Host very gracious, house so interesting & so beautiful Nothing ! Impossible to surpass !
- Cornelia (10/5): Wonderful B&B - warm, welcoming, beautiful room with equally beautiful view! - Wonderful interior design, great care taken to make guests feel at home and welcomed. Well insulated, so warm and not draughty. All staff extremely helpful and caring. Thank you!
- James (10/5): A relaxing and refreshing break in a five star guest house on the special island of Iona. - The degree of comfort in the facilities and attention to detail in the furnishings. The house had an exceptional location with views of islands and sea.

- Jacqueline (10/5): Ardoran House...a gem! - From being collected by car from the ferry on my arrival till the end of my two night stay here nothing was too much effort. The accommodation was first class and spotlessly clean, yet relaxed, warm and welcoming. Breakfast was superb and I particularly loved the local, fresh, free range eggs! Richard is a first class host who goes above and beyond, putting his heart and soul into ensuring every guest feels very welcome, relaxed, comfortable and at home here. - Daniel (10/5): Fortunate to have been able to stay two nights at Andoran House, and we look forward to returning. - Top notch hospitality from the moment that we stepped off our ferry on Iona, to the morning that we departed. Comfortable accommodations in all respects. Our expectations were high based on other reviews, and our host Richard exceeded these high expectations in all respects.
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional place to stay. - The Isle of Iona is renowned as an iconic location for personal pilgrimage, archaeology, and for its remote beauty with a unique history that has inspired generations of travellers.
I read and understood all that before I traveled to the isle for a couple days. However, upon landing on Iona, what I didn’t expect, and what I could never have imagined, is the experience of staying at Ardoran House while on the Isle of Iona.
Simply put. Iona is Ardoran House, and Ardoran House is the Isle of Iona.
Once I was done walking or exploring the beauty and history of Iona, returning to Ardoran House was like returning to a secret and safe room on the island. Not a separate, hotel, guest room or bed and breakfast. No. Ardoran House is indeed a part of the DNA of Iona.
And this had much to do with the host Richard who embodies the spirit of Iona with his kindness and hospitality and who has created Ardoran House into more than a home away from home, wherever you’re from. And whether it was a beautiful sun dried day or a wet, cold and rainy day on Iona, Ardoran House, yes the entire house with all it’s collection of beautiful art, books and games available to guests was always the perfect place to return to, after a morning, afternoon or evening walk on Iona.
A most beautiful and unique experience where both the place one visits, Iona, and the place that I stayed, are one and the same. Ardoran House and the Isle of Iona. A brilliant and beautiful inseparable experience one will never forget. Thank you Richard and Ardoran House. See you soon.
Paul Nothing to not like

I loved my room and my view. I actually think the photo on Booking.com does not do the house justice. The house and the host were fantastic and provided an experience I will never forget. Thank you! I have no complaints. It was a perfect stay.
