Everything was very clean, beds are comfortable and it has all kitchen appliances needed. Hosts are lovely, the communication was always great. Thank you for an amazing stay.
I definitely recommend it :) Nothing :)
- Mairead (10/5): We had a wonderful 2 night family get together and Christmas dinner at the Nurseries - We had a wonderful 2 night family get together and Christmas dinner at the Nurseries in December 2024. The location allowed all 9 of our extended family to be together for the 2 days.
We arrived on Christmas Eve to an instant Christmas spirit with an outdoor and indoor lighted Christmas trees. Christmas lights in the windows. The dining table draped with a red Christmas cloth, holly, and candle holders. A box of home-made delicious mince pies and a Christmas card from Mary our host. Wow !
The gas central heating had more than enough hot water for all 9 of us. The bedrooms and beds were very comfortable and bathrooms spotlessly clean. The Wi-Fi was very fast. There were bags of wood and turf, for a hearty stove in the sitting room for a warm, cosy and magical Christmas Eve and night.
The kitchen hob, oven and microwave were fine to prepare the Christmas dinner. However, we brought a small air fryer that proved to be invaluable for all the little things.
The entrance to the Nurseries on the N4 road can be hard to spot, but Google maps did the trick. We tried going for a walk on the N4 but had to give up as the traffic was too fast and scary. However we drove to Loch Key and 2 of our party actually swam on both mornings ! The sunrise at the lake on St Stephens morning was amazing.
Thanks Mary and Brian for a wonderful and memorable Christmas.
- Gary (10/5): Beautiful home - Beautiful home, everything we needed was available. There was nothing missed.
- Anthony (10/5): Like living in a fairytale cottage - From the moment we entered the driveway, it was exactly like the pictures and more. The grounds are fab and there is such a rich history to the property.
Both Mary and Brian were so welcoming to myself and my family. I personally loved the decor of the house and the mixture or staying true to classic features and adding modern touches.
The kitchen was a dream and the gorgeous hamper of goodies was so sweet, the kids loved it.Fresh milk and butter in the fridge made it feel so homely.
Loved the cosy rooms and more than enough toilets as well.
In the evening time the fire in the front room on the stove, a nice meal and a book from the bookshelf was my idea of heaven.
If you want a slice of history, beside the gorgeous Lough Key and with all the wonderful comforts you cannot go wrong with this beautiful property.
The information booklets were great and really customised.Mary and Brian really are the perfect hosts and we will definitely be going again and bringing my parents the next time.
A treat in a hidden gem and a rest from the business of modern life.
Thank you Mary and Brian so much for one of the most memorable stays. Absolutely nothing
- Maura (10/5): Great time had by 8 family members. - Beautiful location. Family reunion . Mary and Brian very helpful, Nothing.
- Mark (9/5): My family had a very relaxing and enjoyable stay at the Nurseries. The hosts were very welcoming - Beautiful house, very welcoming hosts Noise from the main road
- Brendan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Genevieve (10/5): Fantastic in every way - Na Na
- Emma (10/5): Perfect little hideaway in a wonderful location - The property was stunning! Though it was an older building it kept heat really well.
The surrounding area was so picturesque and my grandchildren loved being around the animals. The garden area was lovely on the sunny days, plenty of room in front for several vehicles and the room inside meant we never felt like we were on top of one another the welcome pack was a lovely little touch too. The property is quite isolated, so with limited TV channels on only 1 TV in the whole 4 bed property it was sometimes quite boring in the house, especially on days when the weather was poor. Perhaps a DVD player with some additional dvd’s or a couple of TV’s in bedroom if you fancy sometime away from the rest of your party.
A mop / squidgy for the downstairs wetroom/ bathroom would be handy as the splash while your washing makes the bathroom quite wet.
Other than these minor niggles we would give it 110% and loved it.
- Nancy (10/5): Light, airy, beautiful house with amazingly kind and helpful hosts. Good base for 3-4 counties. - Visually appealing (loved driving up to it every day) and inside is light and airy and roomy enough for six of us to enjoy. Nice outdoor space for good weather times. Loved the kitchen view of fields, trees and at varying times of day cows or donkeys. The host, Mary and her husband Brian were fabulous!
- Fiona (10/5): Wonderful house! - Our stay at The Nurseries was amazing! Such lovely welcoming hosts, and the little extras of food and drinks left for us was very thoughtful. Very interesting to learn about the history of the house with links to Rockingham estate and the writer John McGahern. A beautiful setting and remarkably spacious inside. The stove was lovely in the sitting room and there was plenty of fuel for it provided. There was loads to do with Lough Key forest park across the road and Bluebell woods also which was magical with all the blue bells. Would definitely stay here again, we wished we could have stayed longer.
- Mickey (10/5): Beautiful Cottage and Perfect Hosts - Our second visit to The Nurseries and another very enjoyable stay.
The location is perfect with Boyle and Carrick on Shannon only minutes away.
The cottage is beautiful and very well stocked.
Our hosts were very helpful and welcoming. We cannot wait to pay another visit.
- Ciara (10/5): Exceptional -
- Maria (10/5): Tucked away in the Irish countryside, the cozy cottage welcomed us with its warm fireplace, charming decor, and a peacef - Beautiful historical house with lovely furniture and a homely atmosphere.
- Olwen (10/5): Would love to be back in the summer time as there are lovely walks to be found nearby. - The small touches of a welcome pack was really nice. Cereals, fruit, juice etc. The fire was lit every evening with turf which was provided which made everything extra cosy. Lots of games and books provided just in case you forget to bring some. The children having their own area to play upstairs was so exciting for them, only popped down to be fed. No Wi-Fi, I believe it is an issue in the area. Also our own mobile provider signals didn't work most of the time. Which after a while you got used to it.
- Siobhan (10/5): Excellent location in an amazing house with lots of space and facilities for a family gathering. Brilliant hosts. Would - Excellent location and plenty of room for 9 adults gathered for a family celebration. Great cooking and dining facilities and the hosts Mary and Brian were on hand to answer any question and kindly had the house stocked with food provisions before our arrival. There was nothing to note re the house which caused us any issues or prevented us having an amazing stay.
- Alexander (9/5): Superb -
- Flavia (10/5): the most ejoyable stay in a long time. Fantastic experience - Everything was marvelous, the historiy of the house gave extra charm. Super comfortable and cozy, clean and practical. Great hostess! Attention to detail Main entrance should have a sign for people not familiar with the area.
- Mick (10/5): Exceptional -
- Fionnuala (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely home steeped in local history and surrounded by beautiful landscape and nature!
- Mickey (10/5): Such an enjoyable time in the lovely Nurseries. My family and I will definitely return soon. - This beautiful property is a hidden gem within easy reach of the stunning Carrick-on-Shannon and the picturesque town of Boyle.
With a warm and friendly welcome we were met with a perfectly clean and well stocked house. Our stay was just a pleasure and our host could not have more helpful.
