Guest Reviews
- David (1/5): - Nothing , the place was closed when we arrived
- Mills (2/5): - Nothing Everything
- Neil (7/5): -
- Anna (6/5): One night stay - Room was spacious, ensuite toilet & shower room. Chef prepared meal for me after kitchen was officially closed, lady on the bar was very caring & attentive 😊. Free car park near the property. Dirty carpets in the room, carpets in bathroom🙉,massive spider web in the corner of the room, light didnt work in the toilet.
- Mubariz (1/5): 🖕 - They were given me room number 7. When I arrived somebody already was there . Room was occupied . We couldn’t stay there. Tried to contact with owner and I was ignored calls and messages . Even now he didn’t get back. Definitely scum They were given me room number 7. When I arrived somebody already was there . - T (3/5): - The location was perfect No breakfast available the next morning when requested on arrival. No milk with the tea/coffee. No coffee machine like specified. Supposed to be a Superior King but was a small room. Would not return.
- Swela (8/5): -
- Karolina (1/5): Disappointed - I was so disappointed. I was disappointed.
- Siba (7/5): We had a lovely time and were happy overall - Really great location to see the local Waterfalls which is what my 11yr old son was keen to see and why we chose Wales. Really spacious accommodation with a living area as well as bedroom. The lady who booked us in and worked at the pub was lovely and appears to work very hard (she was short staffed on one evening so was run ragged!). I thought we’d booked a twin room but it was a double. There was an option of a sofa bed but my son wouldn’t sleep in a separate room as he gets scared somewhere different. Neither of the TVs had a remote control so we couldn’t watch anything. And there were no mugs to drink any of the tea and coffee that was out. But apart from that it was all fine. Nice restaurant pub area downstairs.
- James (10/5): -
- Kim (1/5): - The pub has fantastic food and a really hard working barmaid. The room has no hot water no heating. It was dirty.
- Lau2209x (9/5): Great price and location - Great price, close to where we needed to be and a nice quiet location. Basic but comfortable. There wasn't any toilet roll in the bathroom. Luckily, we had some in the car.
- Bruno piedade (5/5): -
- michael (10/5): Amazing. Loved it. - Was a lovely place to stay and views were amazing. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Nothing. All was good.
- Chris (7/5): Great for 2 motorcycle travellers - Good parking. Pub across the road serves meals. Great value for money. No breakfast however we were given some good options in town, and ended up using the very good Greggs in the middle of Ystrydgynlais.
- Georgina (4/5): -
- Ella (1/5): A disgusting, unsafe health hazard that I had to flee late at night; avoid at all costs. - Absolutely nothing. I had to flee the property and drive home in a storm because it was uninhabitable and unsafe. The hygiene was appalling. There were visible brown stains on the bedding and thick black mold in the shower. As a solo female traveler, the faulty door lock made me feel extremely unsafe. The annex was filthy and neglected. When I reported these health and safety issues, the property refused to help or provide a refund.
- Guest (7/5): -
- Leandro (1/5): -
- Sarah (3/5): Disappointing although the food was nice. - No breakfast facilities available. The staff were hostile including the manager, seemed more intent in keeping us away from the pub and refreshments than getting us in. She was frankly rather rude. Place opened at 5 felt rushed to order food and closed at 20:45. Felt rushed to leave.
- Palwinder (3/5): - Only the location. Not clean at all , even the bedsheet, toilet , floor everything is dirty so yeah its very bad experence.
- Sharon (1/5): Poor - Friendly staff but misled us regarding breakfast. Apparently they stopped serving breakfast over 12 months ago yet called to ask what time we would like to have it the next day 🤔. Room unclean. Not properly serviced in a long time. Bathroom dirty. No mattress protectors. Bathroom cabinet very dirty. Dust on bedside lamps. Shower poor due to water pressure.
We did get an apology and moved to a different room but it was no better.
- Ian (7/5): - The inn did not provide breakfast and have not done for about a year
- Nicholas (7/5): The Abercrave Inn served it's purpose, and was good value. - The location was very good and there was plenty of on-site parking. No breakfast was availble. There are a number of cafes nearby that do a good breakfast though. The decor in the room perhaps need a bit of attention.
- Danielle (1/5): - Lisa was nice to us. It was disgustingly dirty and not secure
- John (1/5): Poor - When we arrived the bar staff had to show us the room. Although check in was afternoon the bar closed at 3pm so no one would have been available.
The room floor was dirty and needed vacuuming which the bar staff did. Then we fould the bed sheets were dirty and the bar staff found clean linen but we had to change the bedding . This then exposed grubby duvet and pillows. The cleaners had made the bed but not changed the sheets. They also left the cleaning bucket in the bathroom. We decided not to stay the second night and when we asked for a refund were told the owners would contact us - which they never did!
- chris (9/5): -
- carl (8/5): Happy and host was rely nice and welcoming - Friendly, clean and very nice pub
- Peter (5/5): - It was close to were I needed to be in the morning as it was a early start To honest the bed was very uncomfortable and was to hot
- Msen (2/5): - X The room was extremely dirty — spider webs and dust everywhere, filthy carpet, and even the tea cups had stains and dust. There were spider webs and lots of spiders around the front door, which made it scary to even open the door. The bed sheets had hair on them and looked like they hadn’t been changed, and the bathroom was in terrible condition with hair in the shower, a very small shower with weak water flow, and a filthy basin with a dead insect and dust around the basin. Since we were only staying for two nights and had a very busy schedule and tired, we didn’t have time to look for another hotel.
- Nicholas (5/5): It served a purpose. - Location and the pub itself was good with good food & drinks. Room we was booked in had a smashed mirror on the floor so we was moved to another room. This was tidy but clearly not ready for guests. We booked breakfast for the next morning to find the place locked. Called the number on the booking and explained. No return call or email with reason for this. Very poor.
- Emma (8/5): Ok for a pit stop - The pub was lovely, very friendly welcoming staff. The accommodation was nice but the beds very uncomfortable and the pillows very hard! The bathrooms could of done with a better clean.
- Steve (5/5): A mix of good and bad - Good evening meal menu and food very well cooked and presented. Reasnable prices. A good place to eat. Breakfasts, wifi in room, tv in room all promised but don't exist. Bin in room still full of previous guest's waste. Owner/manager absent and very difficult to get hold of on the phone and by email.
- Don (6/5): What was there was good. What I expected but was missing (TV, Wifi, breakfast) was disappointing. - Welcome and comfort were good TV in room not working.
Wifi in room not working.
Breakfast not provided.
- Michael (3/5): Needs serious tlc. - Location ok No breakfast available. 2 rooms booked, only one available, stated reason flooding. After this happened some friends managed to book a room for the same night. Bed linen suspected not changed; towels ok
Instructions sent to booking.com ignored
- Shane (10/5): - Very welcoming and clean Nothing
- Thais (5/5): -
- Callum (10/5): Great - The cleanliness and friendliness of staff It was great for my 2 night stay climbing the hills
- stuart (8/5): Overall very good will stay again in the future. - Lovely location.had a nice stay Shower was cold
- Ian (4/5): This was to top class venue 5 years ago, it has gone down hill. - Did not get breakfast due to staff not arriving (did get a free drink that evening). there is no breakfast on Sundays. Had to leave early on Monday so again no breakfast. However, it is not a B&B you pay for meals as you eat. The bed was soooo uncomfortable had back ache each day and not slept well kept waking through the night.
- Andy (8/5): Great staff, good food and a nice atmosphere - It was ideally located for where I wanted to be. It was clean and comfortable. The shower in my room was very feeble.
- Allison (7/5): Reasonable for price. Staff present very professional and helpful. - The only problem was communication prior to arrival. No response to a specific question asked about breakfast. Took a long time to get response over telephone.
When we arrived the staff present were not expecting us! Thereafter staff present were very professional and helpful. Room could have been slightly cleaner to remove superficial dust. Maybe an issue as they were not apparently expecting us? Room resources were adequate and in keeping with price. Restaurant food was reasonable and again consistent with price. See above
- Ellie (1/5): I wouldn’t recommend. - No hot running water.
Bed bugs.
Dirty stains.
Dirty carpet.
- Iestyn (4/5): - Lovely quite location, the room was very homely Staff weren’t helpful at all, we rang the pub and text multiple times about an issue we had and never had a reply
- Trudy (4/5): disappointing - Nice spacious room Staff abrupt on arrival, were'nt aware of our booking despite having messaged our estimated arrival of 7-8 pm and having confirmation of it being received. About to close early so no staff on sight to assist. Radiators red hot and unable to turn down, no cups or milk in the room to make tea. Matress could do with replacing or at least a topper added. large cobwebs on bedroom ceiling.
- Tomkins (8/5): -
- Phil (6/5): Great location, clean rooms, staff could do with a bit more training/help. - Fab location, easy parking, room is equipped with all the basics and is attached to a pub with good looking food. Arrived at about half 8pm. Check in staff made me wait a while so I ordered a drink at the bar, then they complained within ear shot that I hadn't just taken my drink to my room as they were due to clock off in half an hour.
I then found the toilet cistern was broken and made a hissing noise all night. I reported it and the staff said they'd fix it, but two days later it hadn't been looked at. The sink plug didn't work properly and there was a power cut at 6am on the morning of my check out so I had to pack in the dark!
- Neil (7/5): -
- mzira (9/5): - Clean and comfortable rooms
Friendly staff
Affordable meals NA
- Daniel (1/5): Don't waste your time staying here - Terrible stay.
Not even open at the time that the place opens.
No running hot water. Couldn't have a shower
Dirty rooms
Rude staff
Closed the restaurant at 8:45 and told they were closing.
Given the family room when I had booked 2 single beds. Told it was booked out even tho we were the only people staying.
Don't waste your time even looking at staying here. !!!!
- Chris (1/5): -
- liam (3/5): Needs major improvements - Great location, close to waterfalls. Staff were polite and friendly. Accommodation is sub standard, needed a room change after the first hour. I wanted a shower, there was very little water pressure.. used the toilet (number 1) and it backed up and water almost touched the surface of the toilet rim. Creating a horrible stench. Beds were "ok" the linen had stains across and the cushions were old and tattered. Sings of damp across both rooms provided, very dusty. All together a poor experience considering the price. Valued around £40 to stay, cost more than double that.
- Pearl (8/5): Comfortable stay staff were excellent -
- Umberto (7/5): Emergency stay - Good atmosphere in the pub Just above the pub kitchen
- neil (5/5): We stayed for two nights the second night we noticed beg bugs on the head board and on the sheets we stayed in room two - Good location The room we stayed in had bed bugs
- Anthony (7/5): -
- David (5/5): No water pressure anywhere for showers strange attitude of bar management - Location Management were confrontational
- Dale (1/5): - Location The rooms smell
The so called clean towels were frosty with brown marks
No remote control for tv
Carpet no hoovered
So we had a kettle, with water left in it no mugs, spoons
The worst thing is that the bedding looked like it had been slept in and had hairs inside it.
Absolutely disgusting!!!!
- Ashley (10/5): -
- Rhiannon (2/5): Terrible - Nothing.
The lad who carried our bags from the car was the only decent thing we encountered. The lady at check-in was curt and uunwelcoming. The room was dire. Although we booked a twin room, only one bed was made up. The other had an old matress cover, an old blanket and nothing else. The pillows smelt musty.
As we were meeting cousins for dinner we thought we would remedy the room after we ate, but the place was closed up when we returned.
There were bugs in the room, dead spider in the drawer. The tap dripped... needed super strength to turn it off. Everything was old and grubby.
- Andrew (3/5): Not very happy with the customer service. - Not too far from where I was visiting. The staff took a double payment for 2 night of the stay and now refuse to refund the payment despite several phone calls and promises to refund this.
The food in the restaurant was very average. The fish was straight from a supermarket packet and the chips were at best average.
Although it was very hot that weekend, no fan was provided to help keep the room cool
- Scott (6/5): Pleasant - Friendly staff, clean room, nice location No WiFi in room. Tea making facilities but no cups.
Informed staff in morning but had no interest lol
- Lindsay (5/5): Reasonably priced but room was a bit... - Restaurant was quite busy, nice pub food and a good point of beer. Staff seemed quite friendly The rooms was a little tired. The bathroom needed a good clean and the mould sorting out. The shower was absolutely hopeless, no pressure and very little water. The toilet is a macerator and is very noisy, so don't plan on a quiet visit to the toilet in the middle of the night... :)
- Andrew (6/5): Good pub. Basic accomodation. - The pub was good and the food was great. Two pints of beer were off and the shower in one room was great, but in the other it was rubbish.
- Ann (8/5): Great location, great food and great staff - Lovely pub in a beautiful location ,food was excellent and staff were welcoming friendly and helpful. Room was comfortable. Parking available . Left some clothes in the wardrobe and the pub has arranged to get them posted to my home address with no hassle. Steep stairs to bedroom (to be expected in a pub but my knees protested a bit!)
- Michael (4/5): If this is the quality £80 buys I’m scared to see what £40 hotels round here are like - Location 👍 Water pressure in the shower
Bed frame was worn out
Window Blinds may have well been none existent
- Hilary (4/5): The staff were mostly new and trying very hard. I imagine they will get to grips with it. - The staff tried hard and were obliging. The hotel is any an attractive location. The room wasn't ready when we arrived but we were early so went for a walk. Still not ready when we got back and we were given a free drink. When we eventually got in our room it was clean but hadn't been re stocked, ie no toilet paper, milk etc.
We had to ask twice for toilet roll. We were given another free drink with our meal which was passable, but even then our order wasn't quite right.
- Matthew (5/5): would have been great with hot water, - it’s great apart from no hot water so very cold shower wasn’t the best and will stick with Travelodge / Premier Inn as we have done approx 8 weekends per year for the last 10 years and always had hot water very cold shower
- Daniel (2/5): Ridiculously overpriced for what it is!!! Avoid. - Looks good from the outside and it is close to some attractions that we visit Check in starts at 15:00 , we arrived shortly after 16:00 and been told to wait so they can check if the room was ready for us. About 5 minutes or so later we have been taken to our room that had dirty carpets, cobwebs, black mould, ripped wallpaper, noisy tap , filthy furniture and no toilet paper. We had to ask for the WiFi password that wasn’t provided with the information in the room and the signal is very weak in the room. Although they say on the website that they offer breakfast when asked about it they said that the occupation is very low so they don’t offer it and they open at 12:00 when check out time is before 11:00.
- David (9/5): Short and sweet - The privacy
The spaeous room
The facilities The shower pole fell off the wall
You had to shut the door before you could open the shower
didn't seem to be very goot Internet connection
- Jannet (1/5): Bed was clean. - Location edge of Brecon Beacons Dirty bathroom, blinds let light through. Toilet not effective and very noisy. Staff not available to book out or raise issues with.
- Simon (5/5): Passable - Comfortable bed and nice thick carpet in the bedroom.
The meal in the evening was outstanding. Contrary to the impression given by the Booking.com portal, the room had not been paid for in advance so we had to pay on arrival.
The breakfast had to be paid for the evening before and gave the impression of having been prepared the evening before. This impression reinforced by the fact that whilst poached eggs were on the menu, they could not be provided (who can't poach an egg?).
The shower was showing its age.
- Rob (4/5): Close but no cigar! - Location was great with fantastic views. Owner and staff were very professional and polite. The bathroom was freezing cold, the towel radiator was rusty and not working, no HOT water in the shower!!!!! The stay would have been great if the bathroom was up to par. The fact there was no hot water was beyond disappointing especially with an £80 price tag for the night.
- Bleddyn (7/5): Good - The food was ok Walking up the back yard steps at night with poor lighting.
- Diane (4/5): Basic facilities, wouldn’t stay again - Asked if we could book for breakfast evening before. Turned up at 9.15am and hotel was locked. No hot water, no milk for coffee, no Wi-Fi, room not serviced.
- David (3/5): Disappointing as it was OK in certain areas - Well located, with free off road car park. Beds were comfortable and room was clean. On arrival we had to wait 15 minutes to get the key, as the owner was busy rearranging furniture. He asked if we wanted to get a drink whilst we waited, which we did, but no offer of that being complimentary (felt a bit like we were asked to spend more money). In the end we got the key but no tour of the room etc, so not sure why we couldn’t have had it straight away?
We went out elsewhere for dinner straight away and returned to have a drink in the pub. We asked about the wifi password for the rooms to a member of staff, but they firstly said to try another network (which didn’t work) then just disappeared and ignored us.
On returning to the room we went to bed and then realised during the night the toilet cistern had an issue and as result there was running water all night long loudly. As well as no WiFi in the room, the TV remote didn’t work.
At around midnight guests came into the room above and proceeded to talk loudly, play loud music and argue. This went on all night long. Then when we left in the morning we walked outside to find someone asleep in their car with the engine running :/
- Tibor (9/5): Superb -
- Dhruvkumar (1/5): Bad -
- Karen (1/5): Bad -
- Karen (2/5): Shockingly bad and expensive. Do not stay. - The location. The staff are surely and rude, they pretend not to speak particularly good English when challenged on why it is that the facilities are so poor. They have opening times until 11 pm and when we returned at 9.50 the place was in darkness. My room and even the bed clothes were damp. When I emailed the owner to tell them I was told the room had just been redecorated and had been fully maintained only 4 days earlier. When I said I had been in that room a few months ago and it was exactly the same I got no response. The kettle in my room was filthy inside, the shower is a trickle of water and flushing the toilet would wake the people next door. The steps to the rooms are dangerous and the lights do not work. My brothers room had a fridge in it which was filthy and stank. We were there for a funeral and had spent over £1,000 on the accommodation which was extremely expensive for what we received. The food was just acceptable. If the owner put some proper time and money into this establishment it could be great but I am afraid it is not worth your time. Get an air b and b or stay further away. As far as I can tell they don’t want repeat custom in their accommodation and hope that people will forget it.
- Snook (4/5): Not good - No breakfast No milk in the room at to go out and bye some cups in the room to small
- Michael (7/5): Nice and comfortable met all our needs - Location bed Blackout curtains would be good
- Malcolm (4/5): Disappointing - Staff was friendly and helpful Booked double but was twin room, no loo roll, no biscuits, bed sheets felt damp, cobwebs, spiders, moths and flies, no TV signal due to WiFi. Not value for money😒
- Richard (10/5): I woiuld recommend the Abercrave Inn to others, Excellent food and good location for Brecon visit - Great location convenient for visit to Pen y Cae,Craig Y Nos Castle, Sennybridge and Brecon, Excellent food at the Inn served by very polite and helpful staff who went that extra mile. Nothing
- Helen (4/5): Basic accommodation in a quiet location. - Location convenient to family, quiet village, countryside, good pub food. Basic accommodation which could be adapted to self catering. No cleaning during our time. We had to supply products ourselves. Staff only available from 11am if you require extra toilet paper, towels. This should be adapted to self catering accommodation.
- Colin (3/5): Poor -
- Carol (1/5): Had come to visit poorly relative in hospital and this made a sad situation much worse. - Nothing Had to stay in the accommodation across the road from the actual inn which was not stated on the advertisement. Dirty rooms, toilet seat broken, light not working , in bathroom , dirty carpets in room 4, , sunken bed mattress, unclean shower area, marks on bed base, carpet and bathroom ceiling in room 2. WiFi did not work. Had to order and pay for breakfast the night before. Told that breakfast was 8:15 but had to stand outside in the rain, ringing the telephone number to be let in which didn’t happen until 8:50.
- Andy (8/5): Very good -
- Beata (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jessica (6/5): Fair stay let down by manager/ owner - Convenient stay and good value for money Bathroom was poor.
Manager at the restaurant was very rude. Whilst he fixed an issue with our food order (they gave us the wrong order - we understood the error and mistakes happen in a busy restaurant) - he blamed us for the error which was not our fault and repeatedly challenged on it despite explaining the scenario. We showed the waitress the specials menu we were ordering from. When we said we had already waited 45 - 50 min for our food and were concerned about how much longer it might take to rectify, he just said food usually takes an hour (as if that’s an excuse). He was rude delivering the food to the table. He made a point of specifying that the order should be changed on the bill when we made payment and whilst we had the good grace to say thank you for resolving the issue, he never once apologised for it and left us with the impression he blamed us when it was not our error. It’s such a shame as the food is good generally and the other staff are great and we appreciate he did have to have our order prepared again.
- Farnworth (10/5): Exceptional - The staff was very helpful an the food was amazing 😍
- Jason (8/5): Very good - Staff were frendly and food was good.
Room was clean. Heater in room didn't work , informed member of staff so it will be sorted for future guests
Shower water pressure wasn't very good but managed.
- Tina (1/5): No one should have to stay in this place. Felt very unsafe , the fire door was left open with a rock so we could get bac - Had to be moved to the flag and lamb because of a leak. It is owned by the same person, he left a man who had come for an interview to run the pub by himself. It closed at 6.30 pm and they had to leave the fire door ajar with a rock so we could get in later, we were the only people there. There was no breakfast in the morning, absolutely disgusting. Everything
- Stuart (6/5): The location was good, and easy to locate. - The location of the hotel was great for what we needed. We booked 3 double rooms at the hotel. Two of the rooms were OK, however the 3rd room where my friend stayed, he found that in the bathroom, the toilet seat was missing and was on the floor next to the toilet. As far as I know he has reported this to the hotel.
- Howard (9/5): Lovely, would definitely stay there again as a base for visits to this part of Wales. - A great warm welcome, accommodation just opposite across the quiet road. The rooms are very clean, tidy and comfortable, they are even checked again before you are allowed in.
A must to book an evening table for food as once you have experienced the food/hospitality you will know why the locals eat there. A great menu with great classics and some tasty Indian items - large portions, good quality and value for money. There wasn't anything we didn't like, great value and I wish the owners every success as they deserve it.
As we stayed out of season there was no breakfast in the morning (which we knew before the booking) if we had of pushed it I think they would have opened the kitchens for breakfast but as they were only three of us staying this would have really been unfair to them.
- Josh (8/5): Very good - View and bed Lack of staf
- Karen (7/5): Not a bad little stay - The staff and location are great. The bathrooms could use some refurbishment and better water pressure
- Lisa (3/5): Poor - Need new beds and sort the bathroom out taps hard to turn off and the shower . Toilet does not flush properly
- Nicholas (7/5): My stay was comfortable and with some small improvements would have been perfect. Thank you - The bar and menu is great and very reasonable, staff were friendly and very happy to help. The shower kept slipping down the rail
The electric radiator didn't work properly.
Bathroom was out dated needed refurb.
