Guest Reviews
- Timothy (10/5): Cosy shepherd's hut with separate kitchen and bathroom facilities surrounded by fields - The hut is surrounded by fields. There is a bird feeder about 10m from the window which attracts lots of different species of birds. The kitchen area is large (in a barn) with microwave and hob.
The hut itself looks new but appears quaint. The bed (sofa bed) is comfortable. There is a wood burner, but in May we did not need it - still quite warm inside the hut on our return from the festival around midnight.
The nights are dark (no light pollution) and quiet.
- Maria (10/5): Perfect, cosy and quiet, with amazing views! - My partner and I both love nature but don't get a chance to escape the busy city... This place is amazing - we had our dream mini-holiday! We were surrounded by nature, birds, sheep and stars! The hut is very cosy... What an amazing experience coming back after a long hike, being able to completely relax inside the hut, while feeling the warmth of the fire (wood burner) and hearing the rain outside . The facilities are exceptionally clean (and we even had our own kitchen with everything we could possibly need). The owner Sam was very friendly and accommodating (when we arrived he showed us where everything was and was happy to answer any questions we had)! There is a lot to explore around the area, and to just appreciate the beauty of nature and hearing Beeeeh everywhere :) (we certainly miss the sheep ;) ) Would have loved to stay longer, but we had to go back home :(
- Courtney (10/5): Exceptional - Absolutely idyllic. The cabin is a gorgeous place for a getaway - perfect views, cosy fire, and a busy bird feeder right outside the window! The kitchen and bathroom have everything you need and are just a short walk away from the cabin itself. A perfect place to switch off! Hosts are lovely. 10/10.
- Olivia (8/5): Wholesome, off grid and peaceful. - We liked scenic location and peaceful area. We felt that the shepards hut was cosy and the bed was comfy. Once the log burner got going it was warm and comfortable. We also appreciated Sam’s walk recommendations and loved being so close to the sheep. The kitchen was also well equipped! Before the log burner gets going it was really cold in the hut and the heater in the bathroom is average so it’s cold in there too.
- Leejo (10/5): Exceptional - A perfect antidote to modern living, with the opportunity to switch off and enjoy a closer connection to the natural world. To say it's peaceful is an understatement. From the sounds of the nearby river, the birds and sheep or absolute quiet, Cefnmachlys delivered everything I wanted.
The hut is comfortable and cosy, the kitchen is well equipped, and the bathroom facilities are superb. Absolutely nothing.
- Alice (10/5): Many thank you for your stay. 10/10 - Beautiful hut and facilities. Exactly as described. Gorgeous setting. We had a fabulous time.
Extra thank you to the hosts for being so flexible with the date change. Very much appreciated xx N/A
- Bowles (10/5): Exceptional - The views were amazing, the facilities were excellent and the family was super lovely
- Christine (8/5): Glad we went and tried it but won’t go again - In the middle of nowhere. could see the Milky Way at night sky so clear of light pollution. fire pit but we didn’t have time to use. Cosy. blankets provided to sit out too . Green tea coffee and milk provided . Bird spotting. Woodpecker gold crest blue tits wren all 6 foot away on feeder. Lots of books on birds and nature . Cards and games compendium Reasonably equipped kitchen 50 yard walk to the loo especially in the dark and wet with 2 gates to navigate. No light or mirror in part of shower room where loo and sink was No WiFi. Outside furniture needed tlc. bed small - luckily we are. Dresser covered with China and bits and full of “stuff “ so we couldn’t unpack otherwise just 2 hooks
- Alwyn (10/5): Exceptional - Fabulous stay thank you Everything perfect!
- Jason (10/5): Exceptional -
- Esther (10/5): Exceptional - We loved it all - the wildlife, the cosy shepherd's hut and the location were beautiful. It felt like going back in time. There wasn't anything we didn't like.
- Karl (10/5): Perfect escape near the Brecon Beacons - A more perfect getaway would be hard to find. From the glorious views, to the wonderful isolation, to the absolute spectacle of the bird feeder outside the window every morning... Honestly I found it difficult to leave! Umm... The weather? Not sure any of us have any control over that. Skies were cloudy when I climbed Pen y fan and then cleared when I got to the bottom so I had to climb it again and now my legs are aching... Again, nothing to do with the accomodation, which was fantastic
- Elizabeth (10/5): Stunning, cosy and would return 😊 - We enjoyed the views, huts were cosy and equipped with what we needed and would definitely return . Nothing I can think of .
- R (10/5): Incredible place to stay. We have already re booked. - This is a truly spectacular location with a fabulous Shepard’s hut. A very special place to stay and we have already booked to come again. There are also so many nice touches and the hosts are amazing. We can’t wait to stay again. Be aware the access is tricky by road. Not the best location for a precious car or with limited ground clearance but if you can get there it’s so worth the route. It was a bit of an adventure.
- Orfhlaith (10/5): Exceptional - The shepherds hut was so warm and cosy and dry, even in January! The log burner is wonderful.
The bathroom facilities are warm and dry, even in the middle of the night since they left the towel warmer on for us. The shower is wonderfully warm, which we really appreciated after hiking Pen y Fan.
Sam and Helena were very helpful! Giving us detailed instructions to find the site and local recommendations.
We will absolutely be back! Nothing at all, 10/10 stay!
