Guest Reviews
- Mandy (10/5): I feel refreshed after spending just a weekend there … a place I could live a forever home - It was very homely everything catered for Nothing to not like
- Beverley (9/5): -
- Ange (8/5): Short and sweet idilic stay - Lovely surroundings and location A little disappointing dogs not allowed as we may have booked again especially as it’s within Derbyshire and plenty of walks, could may be do with a little makeover
- Anne-Marie (10/5): Fantastic place to stay - Real hidden gem, second time we’ve stayed. Cottage was toasty when we arrived and the complimentary milk and bottled water was appreciated. Beautiful rural view and abundant birdsong, my app detected 13 different birds within 10 minutes of arrival.
Tracy has thought of everything you might need in the cottage, it provides for a really comfortable stay. It is quiet, feels safe and secure and is so much better than a hotel.
Lots of amenities in the area so good for an extended stay as well as a stopover. We especially appreciated that Tracy kindly accommodated our particular request due to personal circumstances. Definitely recommend. Nothing
- Louise (10/5): Excellent value for money, lovely accommodation. Peaceful, everything we wanted and needed in the accommodation will def - Beautiful spot so peaceful waking up to the horses made it feel even more magical.
- Mark (10/5): -
- Keely (10/5): Excellent value for money, gorgeous views! - Lovely little cottage in a superb location with the most incredible views. Lovely walks and places to eat right from the doorstep. Not the most modern but that didn’t bother us at all. Everything we could have needed was there and the owner was very friendly and accommodating.
- Sophie (10/5): Farm charm - Amazing value for money, fully kitted out kitchen with a half pint of milk and water bottles in the fridge when we arrived was such a nice touch. The location is amazing, perfect for bird watching and the horses are so cute. Warm rustic charm, definitely will come back! The reception can be a bit spotty because it's so far out but there is WiFi
- Alex (10/5): -
- Kay (9/5): Relaxing stay lovely views - Lovely location, very peaceful, enjoyed watching the horses and the pigeon outside the lounge window busy nest building. Well equipped accommodation very comfortable and quiet . Beautiful views and lovely local pubs and cafes. Excellent location to visit nearby Bakewell and Buxton plus easy walks near by . Thoroughly recommend .

- Kurtis (10/5): A perfect cosy cottage with everything you need for a quiet little getaway. 100% will be coming back - Tracy has done a wonderful job making sure the cottage has absolutely everything you need for a quiet, cosy getaway. The cottage was lovely and warm upon arrival, everything was very neat and clean and there was no faff with trying to find the keys etc.
Even though the cottage is right next to the hosts house, you’d genuinely never know. It’s so quiet and perfectly private with the bonus of having the host right there if you need anything!
The view was so lovely and being able to experience it in the snow just added to the cosy vibe even more!
I haven’t slept so good in some time, the bed was cosier than the one I have at home.
Tracy is lovely to chat to and was incredibly helpful when it came to finding the cottage and getting out in the snow! I usually have at least something to say for this section but no notes from me this time.

- Sophie (10/5): This was our second time staying here as we loved it so much the first time. We are booked to go back again next year as - Situated in a beautiful setting and very well furnished and set up. Very in keeping with the surroundings Nothing

- Marie (9/5): Absolutely fabulous retreat after a long, wet day. - The cottage was warm and lit when we arrived. The milk in the fridge was very welcome for a nice cuppa after a very, very wet day. We were comfortable and warm and had everything provided for our needs. The views were absolutely beautiful. Thank you Tracy x
- Raval (10/5): Exceptionally clean, peaceful, and well-equipped — a stay we can’t wait to repeat. - 🌟 Exceptional Stay at Barlow Cottage – Truly Peaceful and Worth Every Moment! 🌟
We had an incredibly relaxing stay at Barlow Cottage. It was exactly the peaceful break we needed — calm, quiet, and surrounded by beautiful views and horses. We even wished we could extend our stay, but sadly holidays do have to end!
A huge thank you to Tracy, our wonderful host. She really puts so much thought into everything. The cottage was spotless and beautifully presented, and she provided all the little essentials you could need — kitchenware, toiletries, salt, sugar, and even a small milk bottle so we could make tea or coffee after the long drive. These thoughtful touches meant a lot.
The place felt like a true escape. While there is WiFi, the connection can be intermittent, and there’s no mobile network signal in the area — which actually made the stay even more relaxing with no calls or social media interruptions.
Important tip for finding the cottage:
• Before entering Barlow town, make sure you call Tracy or confirm the exact location, because the mobile signal drops completely.
• If your navigation takes you off-route (the postcode can be a bit tricky), simply enter “Brindwood Gate Farm.”
• You will see two wooden gates with a sign saying “Brindwood Gate Farm.” Once you spot that, you’re in the right place.
From the cottage, it took us around 22 minutes to reach Winnats Pass, so the location is perfect for exploring the area.
Overall, this place was fantastic and exceptional. I honestly don’t have enough words for how much we loved it. We are definitely coming again — 100% a must-visit. Amazing host. Bless her! 💛 The Wi-Fi connectivity is intermittent, so be prepared—sometimes it won’t work for Netflix or other streaming. If you’re like us and just want to relax and unplug, it’s fine. Otherwise, make sure to download your Netflix shows or anything else you want to watch ahead of time.
- Amanda (10/5): Absolutely beautiful location, beautiful little place, a must for a night before chatsworth. - Bloody fantastic! We couldn’t believe our luck on finding such a wonderful clean, warm place to stay!
Even provided milk in the fridge and tea/ coffee and sugar.
We were also lucky to be able to watch a bonfire in the distance and later fireworks…. Followed by live music! Brilliant!
Grandson (age 7) love the seat swing and to be able to see the horses so close. My double bed was so comfy!
Plenty of towels. Plenty of available heating so on a November evening that was really appreciated.
One tiny thing … no hair dryer. Nothing!
- Chloe (9/5): Lovely and tranquil - I struggle with noise and this was one of the quietest places I’ve stayed for a long time! Loved the horses and it was very confortable. Everything you could need is there and fantastic pub up the road. N/A
- Claire (10/5): - Beautiful setting, so peaceful, well presented and welcoming. Clean, tidy and warm. Super beds and fantastic view in the morning. Thank you 😊
- Chaplin (9/5): Fantastic cottage for exploring the Peaks - Fantastic location with stunning views. Lovely comfortable cottage, very warm and cosy. The houses on the farm were great! Easy check in process and lovely and warm on arrival. Unfortunately didn't see our host, but we were back late and out early every day - so no issue really!
- Alison Kirkland (10/5): - Lovely, clean and comfortable cottage in stunningly beautiful surroundings. We had 4 nights here but will definitely book for longer next year. Tracy is a brilliant, friendly host and nothing seems too much trouble.
We'll miss our early morning and evening greetings from the horses ❤️.
Perfect stay, highly recommended! Absolutely nothing to dislike
- Lucy (8/5): - Gorgeous location, very peaceful, great space for a small family. Should add some more photos of the space as the rooms were lovely but couldn't see online. Don't let this put you off :) Great bonus to have a few toys to keep our daughter busy too!
- Annemarie (10/5): -
- Alison (10/5): A Lovely, Peaceful Stay - It was a lovely, peaceful place, which was easy to get into. Great setting, very clean and very comfortable with everything we needed. The Wifi, when we first arrived, was very slow and impossible to use. However, later in the evening and in the morning, it was fine. I am not sure if it was metered or not.
- Anthony (10/5): - Cosy with a view, very comfortable. Nothing
- Ben (10/5): -
- watts (10/5): -
- Rebecca (10/5): Lovely cozy cottage with amazing views, perfect for a Peak District getaway! - Clean, comfy beds, all amenities provided, great communication with the host. Absolutely nothing! Couldn’t have been a better stay
- Stuart (9/5): Definitely would stay again - Very homely, great quiet location. Comfortable and everything we needed. Would definitely recommend. The furniture is a little dated but still very comfortable. Shower pressure was very low but can’t complain overall.
- Hazel (10/5): -
- Kate (10/5): Great weekend in a beautiful cottage. Tracy the host is so kind and friendly. - Great little cottage, with everything you need. The views are stunning. Plenty of room to park. Watching the horses sat on the terrace in the field in front of you is magical. Nothing
- Ingrid Patricia (9/5): Overall I had a very nice time, I travelled and went sightseeing. Very calm and peaceful environment - The location views are idyllic and peaceful, with panoramic views from the bungalow, a very cosy porch, and beautiful scenery with horses, trees, fields,...the double bed mattress was a dream. The host was fabulous, very informative, helpful, resourceful, and kind. Near the Peak District and beautiful, picturesque towns. One of the bedrooms had twin beds whose mattresses needed upgrading
Some of the walks are quite long.
You need to have a car really, to be able to get to any shops and amenities. So the location is beautiful, but not that well connected.
- Pascalis (10/5): Pleasantly surprised - Host was responsive and accommodating to our arrival requests. Location was great with beautiful views. Facilities were great with two bedrooms, full kitchen, lounge area, outside deck with lounges. I wish we could have stayed longer
- Stella (10/5): -
- Stephanie (10/5): - The cottage was adorable, clean and comfortable. Host Tracey was lovely. The horses were adorable too, and the outside area and balcony were fantastic.
- Sandra (9/5): Very rural, picturesque and peaceful - The space was amazing, it was so comfortable just like home. Tracey was amazing. We did have a wifi problem but no major issue
- Joe (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sophie (10/5): A wonderful find and incredible views. - The location was brilliant and the views were amazing! The weather was kind to us when we stayed so we were able to sit out on the terrace and enjoy some drinks watching the sun set. Just lovely.
The location is so quiet, not a car to be heard just the sound of the horses in the field opposite.
The accommodation was very fitting with the location. Traditional cottage still style, clean, comfortable and cosy.
The host Tracy was superb with getting back to me with any questions I had and on the run up to our stay and how we checked in etc. she was even nice enough to have us have a later check out without an additional fee.
We loved it so much we have booked to go back already! The wi-fi was hit and miss but when you book a cottage to get away from it all that’s not exactly a bad thing really!
- Jennifer (9/5): Lovely, kind owners & the cottage is in a great location! - Sadly we weren’t able to travel on the day due to our baby becoming very poorly, and the owner was so accommodating with letting friends of ours come in our place rather than the stay being wasted, and they had a fantastic time!
- Amanda (10/5): Exceptional - Such a relaxing and pleasant stay. We would have stayed longer, but it was fully booked Nothing negative to say. Loved it.
- Christine (9/5): A comfortable stay in a v peaceful location. - A lovely well-equipped cottage with wonderful views. V quiet location.
- Celal (8/5): Peaceful scenic rural accommodation - Facilities in good nick and clean. Plenty of towels. Only hand soap in the bathroom no shampoo or soap in the shower stall.
- Richard (9/5): Superb - Great location, with extensive views.
South facing lounge and decked area. Mattresses could be firmer, but that is personal taste.
- Kirsty (10/5): Beautiful view! Lovely cottage - The view!!! The best view we have had in a Holiday cottage in the UK. Absolutely stunning. So peaceful and calm. Warm and cosy cottage, had everything we needed. Tracy was lovely and it was great to have tea, coffee and milk to hand. Lots of lovely walks both from the door and within a ten minutes drive. Will certainly be back 😁 Nothing! Water pressure was a little low on shower but was not the end of the world and perfectly adequate for what we needed
- Sowmya (8/5): Very good -
- Andrew (10/5): Perfect . - Sadly we could only stay one night . Everything was perfect . The cottage was nicely situated deep in the countyside but not too far away from the town of Chesterfield . The property was immaculately presented and had everything you could possibly need . There was even a fresh pint of milk in the fridge . A big thanks to Tracy for a very warm welcome . We will definitely visit again the next time we are in Derbyshire . Ps I hope you got the rain you so desperately wanted for the horses . Nothing .

The milk was very appreciated for our much-needed cuppa when we arrived.
