- Stuart (8/5): Very good - Beautifully presented cabin with great features. Great breakfast options. My wife woke up with a headache from the mattress.
- Goe (9/5): Superb -
- Haydn (6/5): Generally the stay was quite good but I would have expected a bit more for the money - We were disappointed that there was only one skimpy serve of breakfast cereal to serve two people for two days
The doona was too heavy and hot so we had to discard it and sleep under the acrylic blankets without a top sheet
We had to put the loose floor rugs aside as they are a tripping hazard for old people.
The bed was comfortable and the heating was good. Bathroom fine. See list above .
- John (8/5): Kookaburra Cottage is like a home away from home for us and we look forward to future stays. - This was our 2nd stay at Kookaburra Cottage (we stayed in Oct 2023) and we were very happy with the variety of food left for our breakfast which included my wife's food sensitivities.
The host was most obliging. I left my ph. charger behind first trip and she posted it off to me promptly (Thank you, Kim).
We found the cottage spotlessly clean and most comfortable for our needs. It is best described as a bedsitter with ensuite and kitchen nook in a renovated old shop, snug onto the footpath of Main Street. I think it was once a carpenters shop. The cathedral ceiling with skylights gives a sense of space and light which is pleasant as there are no windows facing the street side of the cottage.
The cottage is well located in the main street of Gembrook, within walking distance of "The Independent" (brilliant Argentinian themed restaurant) a small pub/tavern called "The Local" and "Spencer's Store" which does a great breakfast or lunch. All these places have brilliant service and great food.
Gembrook is a pretty little town in the hills where the Puffing Billy ends her journey
There are some nice walks you can take in the local surrounds and Kurth Kiln National Park is a short drive away where you can view the big Shiprock and the pretty waterfall which are a short walk from the car park. You are only minutes from the townships of Cockatoo and Emerald and if you want to go further afield, Pakenham and Belgrave are not that far away either.
We have enjoyed both our stays here and look forward to staying again. It takes a long time to regulate the water temperature in the shower which means water is running down the plug hole for up to a minute and you get a bit chilly in whilst waiting.
There is only an electric frypan or a microwave to prepare food. It would be of great benefit to add a small stovetop to the kitchenette.
It's a shame there are no windows with an outward view other than the kitchen one and a frosted bathroom one. All the original ones have been "boarded up" so to speak probably for privacy and security as the property is right on the footpath of Main Street. It would be lovely if at least the small one facing the carpark was resurrected so at least you could see the lovely big oak tree. It would mean relocating the TV bit worth the effort.
